“What else explains a bullet miraculously curving through the air?” Fun line from him as the actor also in “Wanted” where they literally do it all movie
@@benoitgauthier6998 Maybe Magneto saw that the bullet was right on the mark of nailing JFK, before he was able to briefly stop it and move it from him slowly (so he wouldn’t get caught), the authorities took him out, making him unable to see what he was doing, and somehow inadvertently nailing JFK himself.
@@michaelccozens this actually helps explain why he couldn't just stop the bullet. According to the comics he can still exercise some control over non-ferrous metals, but not at much as others. I feel like I remember one writer just saying "his power is actually controlling metal," but I don't think most writers hold to that
24:30 Charles is a twin, but when he and his twin were developing in the womb and Charles' mutant gene developed and activated first, his immense psychic ability actually drained away the consciousness of his twin, leaving him a blank slate. The twin, as you can imagine, has the same mutant power but only one of them had the chance to develop. When Jean killed Charles in his original body, he used his powers just before dying to transfer his consciousness to his twin's body since it was just a blank husk. This was the reason they kept his twin's body alive all these years, and he knew he could do this and told the nurses there that if that body ever wakes up, it will be him not his twin
I don't think I knew this before just now. I knew Charles had transferred his consciousness into the "husk", but I didn't know the husk was his twin's body.
Re: Mystique being captured but being free in the first movies, the story is that Mystique was captured and imprisoned for decades, then escaped a lot colder and murderous to hook up with the older Magneto. The scientists meanwhile spent years afterward perfecting the Sentinals with their research from Mystique.
"All those years wasted fighting each other Charles. To have a precious few of them back." I am a huge fan of their friendship and I'm glad they put those scenes in throughout the franchise
Originally Magneto was a more generic bad guy with mutant powers. It was Chris Claremont's idea to make Charles & Magnus former friends. He might have created Magneto's Holocaust origin as well. It's been a long time. Frankly, Claremont & Byrne (who helped plot was well as do artwork) along with Terry Austin (inker) and Glynis Wein (colorist) created one of the best series ever written. I think so anyway.
It also help that Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen have incredible chemistry, all thanks to being friends years before they were cast as Xavier and Erik
Fun fact: Wolverine didn't originally have a healing factor in the comics. He just kept showing up again fine two or three pages after having the bub beat out of him. Eventually fans were like "How does he keep coming back so quickly?" and the authors decided healing quickly was one of his powers.
From what I understand the only thing unplanned was the claws being implanted. Those were originally meant to be part of his costume only. This was info from the forward of the graphic novel of one of the earlier Wolverine mini-series by Clairmont.
To your point about Pietro, in the comics he's portrayed as a pretty irritable jerk because he explains that even a normal conversation for him feels like standing in line at the DMV. Life is just torturously slow for him.
I'm surprised no one mentioned it in the comments. So Charles looks like himself because the body he inhabited was his twin brother's. It's not really something you would know unless you read the comics. But that's the plot hole. Not really a plot hole but just something they didn't explain for people who aren't familiar with the comics.
Reading the comics helps, but the movie does explain it, it just goes by really fast. In X3 they did have a scene somewhere in the middle where they showed Charles's brain dead twin brother who was in a hospital in a comatose state... but they did not mention his name or show his face until we see him wake up in the post credit scene with Charles's contentiousness. So not only, did she miss the post credit scene but the few lines and reference to the situation in the middle of the film goes by really fast, blink and you can miss it. Oh... P.S. I would love her to watch the Rogue cut and get her thoughts on how she thinks it compares.
@@KevyNova right, but the implication of hearing his voice is that it came from the same brain dead comatose body that we had seen earlier in the movie which had now suddenly woken up.
The film was a box office and critical success, making $770 million dollars against a $200 million dollar budget and holds 92% on RT, considered to be the best X Men Movie Ever made.
“I don’t want your suffering, I don’t want your future” That and the entire scene that follows between the older and younger Charles Xavier is so powerful. Absolutely love it. I’ve seen this movie about 6 or 7 times and I tear up every time that scene plays.
I feel like The reason Eric hasn’t “figured out he makes everything worse” is because that’s been his goal the whole time. Charles wants to coexist and prove that mutants aren’t a threat to anyone and should be treated as equals but Eric believes that they aren’t equals and that there can’t be coexistence and wants to force Conflict between the two. everything he does in this movie is in service of that, Mutants need to rule the world and humans need to be afraid. So news coverage of him doing murders in Paris and dropping stadiums on the white house is kind of the coverage he’s after
Too bad they never had a way to have old Eric speak with young Eric across time to try and make him tone down the super high-profile attacks on humans. Of course, young firebrand Eric would probably just ignore him and call him an 'old fool'.
@@WhiteFangofWar Honestly, I think a Michael Fastbender and Ian McKellen interaction would've been absolutely wonderful addition to this movie. I was super happy about James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart tho, so can't complain too much.
This is probably my second favorite X-Men movie behind Logan. Does it make the timeline incredibly messy? Yes. Do I care? Not really. It's just such a good, satisfying ride and a nice way to rework the ending of X3.
I think a Rogue Cut "reaction" would be cool. Instead of it being a full on first time reaction, it would be more like a "What does Natalie notice this time" video, which can be a totally different thing.
I laughed at "it's so interesting seeing Peter Dinklage with an American accent" because he's from New Jersey. He was actually one of the few GoT cast members from the US. But something the has always bothered my about the baseball stadium scene. If Eric/Magneto lifted it off the foundation the way he did and moved the entire stadium, how did the stadium cameras still work? You can actually see he turn the cameras to him, which doesn't get me as they have metal in them but how do they turn on and air what is happening if they aren't connected to a power source?
Even if it was the stadium cameras Erik's power is actually complete control over the electromagnetic spectrum not just magnetism. That would include generating electricity if he so chose. Comic book wise he can generate bolts of electricity, lasers, heat et cetera. He can also, with concentration, affect normally non magnetic elements by focusing his power down to the sub atomic level and manipulating protons and electrons.
I wouldn't say it is super substantially different, but all things considered it is the more fulfilling version, and there is a very big extended sequence that does make it worth it alone (it's pretty much the main reason that version exists).
Same. I don't like that commenters are making Nat feel guilty for watching theatrical releases of films. Regardless of whether there are "better" edits out there, there's absolutely nothing wrong which watching a film as it was released.
@@icyjules is it really that superior? Does it benefit the movie that is really good either way? I would argue it diminishes the tension a bit, after the succesful rogue rescue actually. Its all debatable for sure.
Nat - this story is based thematically on an actuall story in the comic books done way back in 1981. It was amazing and foward thinking then, and influenced so much of our "time travel" stories and rules in those stories today.
@@mechanomics2649 Claremont & Byrne. Days of Future Past. Issue # 141. Released October of '81. In the original story Kitty Pride went back, but only her psyche, which inhabited her younger body. Other differences: the past is in 1980, and the future is in ... 2013 ... I know, right? First appearance of Mystique in the comic.
@@devinhajjari815 I think they mean citations on how influential it was on time travel stories, it does predate Back to the Future and Terminator by a few years tho so there is the possibility the comic could have influenced those
@@WillWatches I also read the citation needed as in explain why is so influential. Besides what you said that DoFP came before BttF and Terminator, it was one of the first mainstream time travel stories where they show a butterfly effect.
This movie is literally the infinity war of the xmen movies such a great movie hands down. Its rare you get a good ending like this and the only reason we got a good ending is cause logan wasnt allowed to be connected to the other movies and the past movies are inconsistent and seem to be a whole other timeline.
Talking about Quicksilver, one of the best comic book issues ever was one where, Quicksilver and his team were each had a turn talking to a psychiatrist, and Quicksilver talked about how incredibly frustrating it is having to deal with slow people all the time.
Great reaction as always. Not sure if there are other comments about this, but Charles doesn’t “freeze time” - he freezes people in place by stopping their mind basically. He can’t freeze the sentinels - they’re robots.
He sometimes freezes people's minds but the scenes on the airport and with the president he's not freezing anyone, rather he's showing as a thought which lasts as long as he needs it, while for the rest of the world is on the blink of an eye
“It’s sad cuz he’s like an addict, but he’s addicting to numbing the pain and the sadness…” Addicts everywhere would like to point something out to you lol
The post-credits scene was depicting En Sabah Nur (translation: the first one)... more commonly known as Apocalypse. It generated massive hype for the movie, but fell short of the massive expectations of fans who were familiar with the comic or animated series version of Apocalypse, who was scarily powerful.
One of the best x-men movies. The ending was very satisfying. I feel bad for logan though. He's the only one that remembers how messed up the future was before and remember seeing his friends killed.
The ending was satisfying but I was pissed that they for some reason made it mystique who pulled Logan out of the water even though it made chronological sense that Stryker would pull him out of the water
@@kaiphan1346 As much as I love this movie, and I even consider it better than the comic it's based on, I have to agree that part made no sense. Bryan Singer was in fact forced to put that in by the Fox execs because they wanted to leave the audience in suspense (like how X2 left people in suspense by hinting at Jean's survival at the end). This wasn't even in the script, it was just something Fox ordered at the last minute during the editing process.
I feel bad that after all that hard work changing the future; the movie “Logan” comes out and gives us an alternate “fucked” future and everybody still dies…
The Sentinels in this movie are way scarier and deadlier than in the comics. This movie is one of the few times when they actually improve upon something in the comics. In the comics, the Sentinels were often rather goofy and too easily taken down. Heck, there was one time in the comics where a Sentinel simply dropped dead because a random beam of light overloaded its sensors. This movie is also surprisingly accurate to the comics. The main difference is that Mystique was trying to assassinate Senator Kelly, not Bolivar Trask. Kitty sent herself back her younger self rather than sending Wolverine. And in the comics the Sentinels only took over the US, not the entire world. Still, this is one of the greatest comic book movies ever made. In fact, 2014 was a really great movie year. What I also love is that this is (and MAYBE X3) the only movie that does justice to Storm and shows her being a great leader and uses her powers in an interesting way (like creating a massive blizzard to slow down the Sentinel carriers, charging up Bishop and combing her power with Magneto's to take down a horde of Sentinels). The whole teamwork the mutants show against the future Sentinels is really creative and effective. Also, Charles can't freeze time. He can just put people's minds on pause. Also, Magneto throws the stadium on the White House specifically because he believes there's no chance of humans ever accepting mutants. So he attacks the president to make an example and trying to inspire mutants to revolt.
I mean i still prefer the original Sentinel designs even the one from X3 looked pretty good. Not a big fan of the future Sentinels they look more like the Destroyer from Thor 1 combined with the T-1000 than a Sentinel. The past sentinels look okay but i do wish we got to see the modern day sentinels of the 2000s like i stated we saw one in X3 in the danger room but only the head. In terms of combat yeah i do like how deadly they are but just not a fan of the designs could've been a lot closer an still look futuristic.
yeah, its easily the best x-men movie to me. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time, due to massive threat trying to be avoided, these overpowered characters like Magneto can only run from it, or fight it in bigger team and die, and they all do die, its amazing.
@@CaptainAmercia The future Sentinels actually don't look like the Destroyer from Thor. The Destroyer doesn't even have a face. The only similarities is that they both open their heads to shoot beams.
Fun fact in the original storyline from the comics it was Kitty Pryde who was sent back in time not Wolverine. I like Wolverine but he gets an inordinate amount of focus on the movies. There are other X-Men characters who have equally as compelling story arcs.
The X-Men franchise: Three original trilogy movies that mostly focus on Wolverine, three solo movies for Wolverine, a prequel quadrilogy where one of the films strongly focuses on Wolverine, a Deadpool duology, and New Mutants. I like Wolverine, but him being the primary focus of more than half the entire saga of 13 films is a bit much, especially since there are so many great characters that got either glossed over or ignored entirely.
This is my most favorite X-men movie but I'm still saddened by the fact that all those tortured and dead mutants got nothing in return. I guess I wanted it to go dark in a way that after he was exiled and imprisoned, Erik finds Trask again to make him pay especially considering it was his team that got annihilated. Seeing Azazel in those files was really shocking tbh.
Despite First Class being made as a prequel, the series going forward treats it like a soft reboot with Days of Future Past more or less erasing the events of the original timeline. That's why there are so many inconsistencies. (That and poor planning)
Yeah if they had ever intended it to carry forward to match up with any of the same characters in the original cast, I don't think they would have set it in the 60s... which is at least part of why nothing makes sense time-wise going forward. (even apart from all the story and character inconsistencies)
@BattleAngelFan They're not unconscious, but frozen BY their mind. So imagine it like your mind is stuck holding all your muscles still and thinking about nothing. He just kinda makes people stop doing anything for a bit.
For the rogue cut, it benefits for the storyline, has less plotholes and just makes more sense and I feel like would be easier to follow, however there aren't many new scenes and not THAT much different. However I would still watch the rogue version, I think it would help for future movies
I feel I have to rewatch the Rogue cut cause to me it’s just the exact same movie only with Rogue replacing Kitty after she gets injured, Rogue adds nothing to the story lol and Bobby is still with Kitty until they change time anyway
@@vetarlittorf1807 Then how come Kitty suddenly have the power to send someone back in time through mind reading or whatever, she could not do that before and her only power is that she can go through walls and other objects. They never explained her new power and that's a plothole.
@Drink A Paint Does the Rouge cut explain Kitty's new power of sending someone back in time through mind reading? Cause she never had that power before and they never explains how she even got it, her main power is that she can go through walls and other objects, she basically has ghost power.
When you said Dinklage’s American accent was good 😭 tbf when I heard McAvoy in a movie with a Scottish accent I thought he was American from wanted and really said “his Scottish accent is pretty good.”
Rogue Cut is slightly better but it's not a huge deal - I think it improves some of the pacing and flow but do Rogue's scenes really matter to the story? not in the slightest
I’ve been waiting for this one! This was my first X-Men movie because I saw a snippet of the Quicksilver scene that drew me in. Still my personal favorite
As a Mohawk man I really enjoyed the small cameo of Warpath, and the fact even at the end he draws his knifes and attacks, knowing he will die but does it anyway.
@@user-jt1js5mr3f Understandable. SPOILER ALERT Struckers, FENRIS, Stepfords, Polaris, Blink, Erg, Thunderbird, and more. I was considering The Wolverine, DOFP, and The Gifted as potential links to the MCU because Silver Samurai and Viper would be natural links to Hydra. The Von Struckers and FENRIS are connected to Von Strucker from the Hydra compound in Age of Ultron, and the connection of Lorna Dane to Magneto and the Maximoffs.
Finally! My favorite X-Men movie!!! Really fun to flip back and fourth between the original cast and the First Class cast. The scene between Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy is still one of all time favorites from the comic book film genre! Stay smooth and Stay gold pony boy!
A great movie and one of the best in the franchise, so many things come together in this film to make it what it is and genuinely give us the best full xmen (as opposed to a single character focused movie) movie to date. Props to Jennifer Lawrence for actually committing to her character and fully going Mystique makeup for this movie, wish she did it in the other ones too.
there's a definitive edition of this movie called "The Rogue Cut" that adds a few extra scenes that better explain certain plot points and really ties the whole X-men series together in a nice way. 11/10 recommend :D
I was excited by this movie since I watched its first trailer. I think Bryan Singer, the director, made it like a great farewell of the old cast, taking the new ones the roles.
I know it's a kids show but i would strongly suggest you to watch the entirety of Avatar the last airbender and show us your reaction. I will only say that you will lose nothing from doing it. It's the best animated show i have ever seen, try it with you haven't i'm sure you will like it :)
The body that Charles Xavier uses in the future, as Patrick Stewart, is the body of his twin brother who was the "brain dead" guy in the coma, thats why he looks the same after he got now to smithereens by Jean. I think they slightly alluded to that in X-men 3 but it was easily missed.
Nat: "It's SO WEIRD hearing Dinklage with an American accent!" Me, watching Elf repeatedly over the holidays: "Just wait until she hears about the South Pole elves."
Never saw the Rogue cut. I imagine there's more Rogue in it. But this is the best X-Men movie out of the bunch. So, I can't imagine it's much better. BTW, this is another timeline from the films before X-Men: First Class.
Nah The Rogue Cut is definitely better lol. It adds scenes to the movie and also the whole character of Rogue is there (She isn't in the theatrical cut)
@@icyjules Yeah but the Rogue Cut also decreases the stakes. In the theatrical cut, Kitty is bleeding to death while struggling to keep Wolverine in the past, which means they have even less time.
@@vetarlittorf1807 but it makes more sense considering the sentinels using Mystiques powers should only make them shapeshifters, not be able to mimic actual power abilities, which is what Rogue's mutation is.
It’s weird. I really liked this film but because the ending was such a satisfying resolution to the storyline it kind of killed my interest in seeing any additional “team” X-Men movies. I anticipated, watched and enjoyed Logan and Deadpool 1-2 but I just couldn’t muster the energy to get excited for Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix even before the reviews came out
I haven't seen A or DP for that exact same reason. Same goes for Indiana Jones (I've seen Crystal Skull, but my head canon is that the series ended with Last Crusade), Harry Potter (I haven't had anything to do with Cursed Child, or whatever it's called) and many other series. I'm happy with the way it ended, anything else is optional DLC (like anything after IW:End Game so far).
Apocalypse isn't a bad film IMO. It does a good job of representing the development of the later team, and while it's a bit on-the-nose with some of its points at times, it's a lot of fun, and I do recommend it: it's not so much a continuation of the stories as it is a link to tie the prequels more fully back around to the original film(s.) I haven't seen Phoenix yet though.
It's good watching others react to the films we've loved. That's why ever since I subscribed to this channel, I would take the time to watch the movies here that I've never watched yet before, just to watch your reactions to it afterward. It's crazy.
I like that comment about you talking about inconsistencies in this movie. That pretty much sums up the X-Men cinematic universe films relating to each other.
Two interesting details about the portal mutant “Blink” from the comics: 1) The character literally died in the second issue she appeared in and was never revived, though she is temporarily replaced by an alternate universe version. 2) The actress who played her in this movie was later busted for tax fraud in China then was literally “disappeared” by the Chinese government and hasn’t made a single public appearance since 2018 when she was caught.
that’s until recently. she’s in the new blockbuster film called the 355 (just watched it - not great). i think she publicly apologised a year or two ago for the tax fraud but idk what the consequences of that were.
Dude, she only dissapeared from social media for 3 months after being caught. After that, she made a public apology for commiting tax fraud. She's even in a movie called 355 that's gonna release later this month. I think you're trying to exagerate things way too much dude lmao
The Age of Apocalypse version of Blink is hands down one of my favorite comic book characters of all time. I love the fight between her and Holocaust, Apocalypse's son, and they get into a stalemate situation and he says "Looks like were in a stand off. Tell me, do you really think you're faster than I am?" Then she takes him out before he knows what happens and just says "My name is Blink! Who do you think is faster!"
Yay, my favorite X-Men movie. When I saw the Quicksilver scene in the theater I couldn't stop laughing. Seriously. My friend sitting next to me was starting to get uncomfortable. That scene just hit the sweet spot for me.
The Return of the Queen! I'm glad you guys took time off, both you and Cameron deserve a vacation. That being said, I'm so glad to see you posting videos again and can't wait for what you guys are doing next. Happy New Year, Nat!
Not quicksilver related but I remember a Swamp Thing conic I read as a kid and he described each of the justice league in his own way. Of the Flash; There is a man who moves so fast, it must seem the world is a gallery of statues to him”. I always found that so beautiful and heartbreaking.
My favorite X movie! It was great to see you finally get to watch this. Such a great movie. I for one would LOVE to see your reaction to the Rogue Cut as well… it makes a great movie even greater. Happy New Year!!
OMG Nat, I wasn't expecting to see you this week. Nice! So about the Rogue Cut, you didn't mess up. Watching the Rogue Cut is actually more interesting after watching the theatrical cut. To see how much was changed and what wasn't was fascinating to me. It'll be interesting to see your reactions specifically to what was changed and how the filmmakers handled it.
"Disclaimer: I didn't see the Rogue Cut..." And many of us hadn't; but if the numbers are up and you release it here in UA-cam, it would be a pleasure to take that particular film ride with you :). As you've mentioned: it's a bit hard to keep up, not only with the chronologies but also with the versions. Some were released alongside the "original version", some were released years later... one can't be sure if the extended versions or the new cuts add something else to the original story unless one asks in advance if they are worth it, so yeah: it's comprehensible. But don't be too hard with your selection, basically if you are "reacting for the first time" to Marvel Films, you are following the path every single person had to follow when the films first came out: the theathrical version first, and later on the discovery of extended cuts XD. "Avoiding spoilers" also implicates not knowing how good the existing extended cuts out there really are. "It's less gross when the claws are covered in Adamantium" It should be noted too that with the Adamantium cover they pierce through the skin more easily, in theory XD. And the sound is more metallic, not bone going through flesh :P. "Erick! Why you think killing her is better?" Because he doesn't know (and has never been really convinced) of the "middle ground". If Mystique was the key to develop the Sentinels of the future, that danger will always be with her for as long as she lives. How do you really make sure there is no way shape shifting technollogy is developed around her skills? Erasing her from the map. That plan has several flaws, but Erick sees it in the short time: no Mystique, no powers, no threaths to the mutants. "Natalie Gold's funny unintended expression" If those are a lot, they could make a nice little clip for the end of the year; with any remarkable bloopers XD. Just saying :P. "How cool it would be some things of the past movies and the plot could be undone" Wait for it... And yeah! Allow me to introduce you to the concept of "retconning" that comics use whenever they want to undo crazy stuff or bring back characters meant to be dead XD. It's nicely done here, though, since many of the choices were not well received in the past movies and so far there has not been any film featuring the 2000's original cast, but it was nice to see them back (basically undoing several things of the past films). And Jean has always been a redhead, but yeah, the first films don't boost her hair color a lot XD. And that would be it, nothing much to add to this reaction; it was great :). See you in the next one.
Just found your reactions. Please do the Rogue cut! It's the best Xmen movie ever imo. It actually wraps ALL of the characters storyline up in a good way.
Most of the questions you have about inconsistencies is because the things you think happened in the future, changed the moment they went back in time so the first three x men movies essentially didn't happen the moment they changed time. I hope that helps!
@@bratsmovies17 No she seems pretty aware that these movies like to play fast and loose with continuity. Besides, due to what happens with Magneto it seems pretty obvious that the "cure" is far from permanent.
@26:35, the thought of killer robots designed to hunt down people is terrifying. If something like this were to happen in real life I would be running for the hills. That said in some versions of the X-Men lore, the Sentinels realize that there is no exist standard template for a human being. Because each one of us has within our cells subtle mutations - we are all mutants. Once the Sentinels realize this the entire human race is deemed mutants and put on the hunt list. Since most people don’t have superpowers, very shortly the only people left in the world are mutants with great offensive powers. Talk about unforeseen consequences.
Re: killer robots. You'll probably want to avoid Oxfam's research on existing autonomous weapons systems, and any videos from Boston Dynamics. That should solve the problem, at least until it appears on your doorstep.
@@gear2902 They wouldn’t be able to handle that because a Dark Phoenix level thread could take out an entire solar system . That said in the comics, there is a sentinel from the future called Nimrod. It can adapt to practically any threat and develop some extra abilities itself. One of those abilities is teleportation and I believe outright time travel in some cases. The moment Nimrod goes online is considered an extinction level endgame event for mutants. There is an entire story arc in which the X-Men go to extreme measure to find out the where and when of Nimrods creation to prevent it from occurring.
@@michaelccozens Yeah everytime I see a video of the little robot running an obstacle course I keep thinking “How long will it be before it’s running an obstacle course while firing a rifle at randomly spaces targets…an hitting everyone of them.”
I appreciate you talking about The Rogue Cut right away. I enjoy your vids, and while I wish I was watching it already, I'm more than willing to watch this, like, comment, already subbed, for the potential we see Rogue Cut in the future. Keep it up, Nat, thanks for sharing yourself with the world!
My general "rule" when watching movies is to go for any extended/unrated/director's cuts, if there is one... While it isn't always the case, the extended versions are generally better, if for no other reason than they have additional scenes. You have nnnooooooo need to apologize though, especially for taking time off over the holidays 😊
That is definitely not true. There's a reason a team of people told the director/writer to cut it out. Extended cuts are just ego pieces for directors and their "visions"
@@CNep99 You're generalizing, while the dude on top used the word "generally". The Extended Cut of The Wolverine is a little bloodier and has a few more scenes of characterization. Marginally better. Still, better.
Though I often agree with that, I actually prefer the theatrical version of this to the Rogue cut. The Rogue cut explains how the Sentinels found their hidden base, which in a weird way actually makes the Sentinels less intimidating. The theatrical makes it seem like they will eventually find the mutants no matter what.
Quite often the additional scenes are deleted scenes that actually help explain a lot of why the plot of the theatrical release was confusing. Perfect example is the extended cut of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Quicksilver was a difficult character in the comics. I think the movie treatment was brilliant, if a little overpowered. The music in his big scene was "Time in a Bottle", a 1973 hit by Jim Croce. Jim was a genius who was taken from us far too young. This was his biggest hit during his lifetime, but perhaps his more enduring legacy was "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown".
I believe the explanation for Charles surving to this film after his body was destroyed in The Last Stand is that he had an identical twin brother than was brain dead but still allive, and he has taken over that body, which you see him wake up in an end credit sceen of The Last Stand, I think it is why Charles appears to give up fighting Jean in his death sceen, because he is transferring his own consciousness to his brother's body
sure, fine this convenient brother never mentioned in any of the movies (but I guess in the Comics because that format of course needs neverending storylines).. but if that's the explanation, why didn't they actually EXPLAIN IT IN THE MOVIE? he just SHOWED UP, and we're supposed to ask comic book fanboys to explain it to us? that's always been a huge stupid wrinkle in these otherwise really enjoyable movies.
@@erichb4530 I think that is just lazy writing, they needed it to happen, so it did, and just didn't explain it properly. It just seems something you find out by being told from other sources like I did, or by just trying to figure it out yourself. Though I believe there was a mention of the twin in the Director's commentary for the movie. I think the twin idea is loosely based on something that did happen in the comics
The Rogue Cut does make the story more interesting. The end credits scene shows a young Apocalypse (En Sabah Nur), an immortal mutant born in ancient Egypt, and was transformed by Celestial technology into an advanced form of cyborg able to completely control the molecular structure of his body.
Eh, the Rogue Cut’s not necessary. It’s pretty good but the theatrical is fine. Not to say don’t watch it, go ahead. Kitty being able to send someone’s mind back in time is an extension of her phasing power I still remember watching this movie for the first time, watching Charles tie his arm and get out a needle and being like “Whoa! Whoa! WTF?!” And then sighing in relief when Hank says it’s a serum to treat his spine Trask was technically in X Men before. In Last Stand played by Bill Dukes as the head of the DHS and aid to the president during the war with the mutants. First name never said. On top of that, the giant robot they were fighting in the danger room in Last Stand had a more comic accurate Sentinel look. Or at least the head did. In the comics it actually is the case that Quicksilver’s perspective is everyone else going super slow. He compares it to being stuck behind someone who’s taking forever at an ATM, all the time The screenwriter speculated that Kennedy's mutant power manifested as a telepathic form of persuasion. The inconsistencies started with First Class. Remember in Last Stand when Xavier and Erik meet young Jean? Charles was already bald, yet still walking, and Erik was with him, implying their time as allies was a lot longer than depicted in FC. And in the first movie Charles says Magneto found some way to block his telepathy, not saying it’s the helmet, yet in FC he clearly sees Erik wearing it and knows he can’t get past it I’m sorry, it’s hilarious to me that you went so long thinking he was freezing time and not just the people. Like even in first class when he freezes a guy at the water fountain the water is still going 😂 It was his twin brother’s body he took over The look of the rebar in Logan is reminiscent of a moment in the comics when Magneto rips the adamantium out of him. Jean has always had red her. Though it was more vibrant when she was Pheonix En Sabah Nur with his _Four Horsemen_ in the background. His name translates to “The First One.” It’s not the name he’s generally known by. You’ll learn it.
@@BrighamMike No it isn't. She can extend her powers onto others through a touch. Even if she couldn't, it would just be an example of an adaptation taking some liberties to make the plot work. Not bad writing at all.

The X-Men world can be confusing, especially when, primarily in the early movies, the origins of some mutants and the relationships between them were changed from the comics, and then (sort of) corrected in later movies.
Should've watched the Rogue Cut of the movie, the context and changes it adds really flow better and make the movie better in general, not that the theatrical version is bad. The scene from the Rogue Cut switching back and forth from the two versions of Magneto is really cool.
In my opinion I find the theatrical cut to be a more concise story. It paces a lot better. The Rogue cut gives us back that great character and some new scenes, but overall I think it gets slightly too mired down in exposition.
To be honest I've only ever watched this movie once, even though I enjoyed it a bit. But, I never knew there was an alternate cut. The Rogue Cut. I'm gonna have to check that out.
Main issue with the theatrical cut is it doesn't explain how the Sentinels can absorb powers. It's the capture of, and experiments on, Rogue that allows this- and is therefore the reason why they were able to subjugate humanity. Essentially Rogue's powers are the key to the basic premise of the plot.
I've watched a couple reactions to this, but I realized that epilogue is just not going to be the same for someone who hasn't been watching and loving the X-Men series for years. Who suffered through #3 and some bad spinoffs, and saw the pretty-good-but-still-not-the-same _First Class._ Who gave up on seeing that world and those characters again. Then this ending comes along and grabs your heart, and unwrites those years of losing the original XMU characters. It's a dream.
Just so you get it, in x men last stand the unconscious body in the video with the doctor is Charles identical twin brother, born brain dead because charles' mind was so powerful, and thats the body he transferred his consciousness into the instant before Jean killed him
I remember watching this on a date in the cinema. Being an X-men fan all my life, the scene when wolverine looks at Jean at the end, couldn’t stop crying. Not the best look for a first date 🤦🏻
I personally don't think Rogue cut is too big of a deal. It has a sub-plot which stands on its own, independent from the main plot line, only changing one detail from the main story. Overall the story is 97% the same.
Fun fact, quite a lot of the Paris scenes were shot in my homecity of Montreal (Probably because Old Port and Square Victoria have some nice old buildings and it's much cheaper to film there)
Charles doesn't actually freeze time. He freezes people in time while time continues along around them. So time continues as normal & the people he freezes just have a sort of black out not realizing they have been frozen beyond a strange feeling.
Snake Plissken- *Are there folks out there who think he freezes time(besides her)?* In any of the film scenes involving this power in a public space, they have *always shown water-fountains still flowing or escalators still moving.* You can see he's just freezing people's minds & bodies..
The reason Professor X looks the same despite having switched bodies is explained in Xmen 3. When you see Moira McTaggert she is caring for Charles's twin who was born without consciousness. When he "died" he transferred his own consciousness into his twin.
I would actually really enjoy seeing your reaction to both versions of this movie. I saw the theatrical version in theaters and loved it and then saw the Rogue Cut the following year when it became available on Blu Ray. It became a different experience and I enjoyed catching all the new scenes and differences and would like to know your thoughts on seeing both. Most react channels will usually pick one version and never get around to the other.
Quicksilver in the comics was known for being a jerkass. He explained it once as how everyone gets annoyed at the supermarket being behind that slow customer who can't find their wallet, etc. Everything feels like that to him when he's not running flat out!
Funny moment, someone pointed out to me that James McAvoy emphasizing how else can you account for a curving bullet was an Easter egg for the movie Wanted where McAvoy's character could curve bullets.
Idk if someone told you already, but there's a "Rogue Cut" version of the movie with additional scenes where Iceman and Magneto go to bring Rogue back so she could take Kitty's place because Logan cut her and she was to injured to keep the connection with him. Really good scenes and nice to see Rogue again in the future.
Apparently the person that Charles was talking about with no consciousness at the beginning of X-Men Last Stand. Was his twin brother. And that's why he looks the same and is back to life
Mostly the Rogue Cut really only changes the beginning of the movie generally with its addition of Rogue herself. But the movie as a whole is awesome. It's all about just having the timeline hard to follow most of the inconsistencies, it's usually sorted out by the end or if you miss a detail you might not figure some parts out.
I’m watching the rogue cut for the first time now, and yeah, the third act is almost an entirely different movie. Definitely worth the watch (whether it’s uploaded on YT or Patreon).
Nothing is more tiresome than "fans" who insist on reactors watching their preferred cut of a film. Theatrical is always acceptable. Anyone who gets triggered over a reactor watching the more widely-seen and readily-available version of a movie needs to get a life. Please don't apologize for this Nat, you have nothing to apologize for. You watched the right version. Especially considering that far more of your Patreon members would have access to the theatrical version and not the Rogue cut to watch along with.
But suggesting to someone to watch a much more detailed version of something that is widely known as better is not a bad thing💀💀if they get mad at her for not watching it, that’s the problem, but insisting they watch one version is not the bad thing😐😐😐
I agree. I watch a few different “reaction” channels and it really annoys me when the reactors are watching Star Wars movies and every comment is “you have to watch clone wars”. No they don’t have to watch clone wars. They don’t have to watch anything. Can’t expect them to watch everything for us. Especially multiple seasons with multiple episodes. Star Wars fans are the worst.
The Rogue cut shows that Mystique's body/mutation helped kickstart the sentinel program (mutant genocide androids), but Rogue's body/mutation keeps it fueled and highly advanced in the future (stealing powers). So there's a rescue scene in the future to get her. Just gives more story to the original cast in the future. Also it shows that Wolverine and Storm are together, and one of their fears is that if they save the future by changing the past, they might not end up together, but they do the right thing for the greater good. To sum up Shadowcat's powers in the movies, most mutants' powers get more powerful or radical as they age, and Kitty (and anyone she touches to join) can "phase through anything," so she can even phase through time eventually. Maximoff is familiar because that's Pietro and Wanda Maximoff (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch), Magneto's oldest 2 kids. He has 4 total, one being Polaris who has the same powers as Magneto and green hair (sometimes mutation just comes with a colour or secondary power or both). His youngest daughter (can't remember her name) can communicate with animals. If you're wondering who else has important kids: Xavier has a son (Legion - multiple personalities and powers), Cyclops and Phoenix have a daughter (Prestige - same powers as Jean), Cyclops and Goblin Queen (Jean's evil clone) have a son (Cable - same powers as Jean), Wolverine has a psycho son (Daken - same powers as him) and a female clone (X-23 - also same powers as Wolverine), and Mystique and Azazel (red devil teleporter in First Class) have a son (Nighcrawler - blue devil teleporter in X2). In the books Mystique is also the adoptive mother of Rogue, making Rogue and Nightcrawler stepsiblings. And Mystique's bi and has a wife (Destiny who's blind but her powers give her glimpses of possible futures). I HIGHLY recommend reading HoX/PoX by Jonathan Hickman to anyone. Similar but better than the Days of Future Past book, and you don't need to know anything about X-Men at all, but you'll love it the more you know, which the movies are plenty enough. The book stands alone well.
Don't apologize for taking a bit of time off to recharge. When you do post, it's a blessing. The way to keep it a blessing for us is for you to keep being able to enjoy it.
I watched The Rogue Cut, and for me it doesnt add that much to the movie, with the exception of some characters demise, and the scenes of Rogue, but the plot itself, I like that its more about Xavier and Erik and their looking for faith and a path for their kind.
I don't know how you can dismiss the rogue cut if you like Xavier and Erik and their story arcs, because the way they set up the parallels with Erik helping to get Rogue and young Erik going to get his helmet that section alone is well worth the adjustment. It's for sure the definitive version.
“What else explains a bullet miraculously curving through the air?”
Fun line from him as the actor also in “Wanted” where they literally do it all movie
But if he curved the ball did that meant that the president was safe the whole time because the shooter missed but magneto "corrected" it ?
@@benoitgauthier6998 Maybe Magneto saw that the bullet was right on the mark of nailing JFK, before he was able to briefly stop it and move it from him slowly (so he wouldn’t get caught), the authorities took him out, making him unable to see what he was doing, and somehow inadvertently nailing JFK himself.
Depends on the ammo, of course, but some explanation about Magneto would be in order, as lead is a non-ferrous metal. Copper, too.
@@michaelccozens this actually helps explain why he couldn't just stop the bullet. According to the comics he can still exercise some control over non-ferrous metals, but not at much as others. I feel like I remember one writer just saying "his power is actually controlling metal," but I don't think most writers hold to that
Wanted is such a fun movie! 👌
These was even a Post Credit Scene in "X Men: The Last Stand" where they showed it.

More like “all those years I tried to fight you so you had to fight back”
both the actors and the characters have so much chemistry
Fun fact: Wolverine didn't originally have a healing factor in the comics. He just kept showing up again fine two or three pages after having the bub beat out of him. Eventually fans were like "How does he keep coming back so quickly?" and the authors decided healing quickly was one of his powers.
Lol “the bub beat out of him”
That doesn't sound correct.

From what I understand the only thing unplanned was the claws being implanted. Those were originally meant to be part of his costume only. This was info from the forward of the graphic novel of one of the earlier Wolverine mini-series by Clairmont.
@@tay-dor7147 I remember reading this as well.
I hope she sees this!!!

That and the entire scene that follows between the older and younger Charles Xavier is so powerful.

Evan Peter's as Quicksilver is such a amazing edition to cast of X-Men days of future past
Those weren't the stadium camera's he's using, but the camera's that were already there to cover the president's speech.

Struckers, FENRIS, Stepfords, Polaris, Blink, Erg, Thunderbird, and more.
One of the most beautiful parts of the whole film... "I'm now going to do a monologue about continuity issues in previous films"
"McAvoy or Stewart? These timelines are so confusing." - Deadpool
Literally only clicked on this reaction for the "We need you to hope again" scene and she ruined it.

Nat: "It's SO WEIRD hearing Dinklage with an American accent!"

I anticipated, watched and enjoyed Logan and Deadpool 1-2 but I just couldn’t muster the energy to get excited for Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix even before the reviews came out
Until they're introduced into the MCU you are not missing out and it is truly a fitting end to the series.
It does a good job of representing the development of the later team, and while it's a bit on-the-nose with some of its points at times, it's a lot of fun, and I do recommend it: it's not so much a continuation of the stories as it is a link to tie the prequels more fully back around to the original film(s.)
I haven't seen Phoenix yet though.
To be fair Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix both looked really lacklustre from the promotional material they came up with
Absolutely correct on all points.
Two interesting details about the portal mutant “Blink” from the comics:
1) The character literally died in the second issue she appeared in and was never revived, though she is temporarily replaced by an alternate universe version.
2) The actress who played her in this movie was later busted for tax fraud in China then was literally “disappeared” by the Chinese government and hasn’t made a single public appearance since 2018 when she was caught.
Woah
that’s until recently. she’s in the new blockbuster film called the 355 (just watched it - not great). i think she publicly apologised a year or two ago for the tax fraud but idk what the consequences of that were.
We grew up on X-Men in the early 90's. The cartoon, the cards, the games and this is the best in the film series to me.
"Disclaimer: I didn't see the Rogue Cut..."
And many of us hadn't; but if the numbers are up and you release it here in UA-cam, it would be a pleasure to take that particular film ride with you :).
"It's less gross when the claws are covered in Adamantium"
It should be noted too that with the Adamantium cover they pierce through the skin more easily, in theory XD. And the sound is more metallic, not bone going through flesh :P.
"Erick! Why you think killing her is better?"
Because he doesn't know (and has never been really convinced) of the "middle ground".
"Natalie Gold's funny unintended expression"
If those are a lot, they could make a nice little clip for the end of the year; with any remarkable bloopers XD. Just saying :P.
"How cool it would be some things of the past movies and the plot could be undone"
Wait for it...
Love this movie! Days of Future Past and Logan are my favourite X-Men movies.
I think a separate Rogue Cut video would be great. I've always preferred it to the theatrical.
Yeah why not
She watched the X3 version where Rogue got rid of her powers at the end and Rogue cut would just confuse her
@@bratsmovies17 No she seems pretty aware that these movies like to play fast and loose with continuity.

Yes please post the Rouge edition because it’s always good to see another point of view of how the movie should have gone as well
My general "rule" when watching movies is to go for any extended/unrated/director's cuts, if there is one...
Don't watch the Director's Cut of Apocalypse Now.
27:51 that "bonk" sound effect tho 😂
Eh, the Rogue Cut’s not necessary. It’s pretty good but the theatrical is fine. Not to say don’t watch it, go ahead.
Kitty being able to send someone’s mind back in time is an extension of her phasing power
I still remember watching this movie for the first time, watching Charles tie his arm and get out a needle and being like “Whoa! Whoa! WTF?!” And then sighing in relief when Hank says it’s a serum to treat his spine
Trask was technically in X Men before.
He compares it to being stuck behind someone who’s taking forever at an ATM, all the time
The screenwriter speculated that Kennedy's mutant power manifested as a telepathic form of persuasion.
The inconsistencies started with First Class. Remember in Last Stand when Xavier and Erik meet young Jean? Charles was already bald, yet still walking, and Erik was with him, implying their time as allies was a lot longer than depicted in FC. And in the first movie Charles says Magneto found some way to block his telepathy, not saying it’s the helmet, yet in FC he clearly sees Erik wearing it and knows he can’t get past it
I’m sorry, it’s hilarious to me that you went so long thinking he was freezing time and not just the people. Like even in first class when he freezes a guy at the water fountain the water is still going 😂
It was his twin brother’s body he took over
The look of the rebar in Logan is reminiscent of a moment in the comics when Magneto rips the adamantium out of him.
Jean has always had red her. Though it was more vibrant when she was Pheonix
En Sabah Nur with his _Four Horsemen_ in the background. His name translates to “The First One.” It’s not the name he’s generally known by. You’ll learn it.
it made sense in the comics when it was herself. projecting another was shoddy writing

To be fair, the comics themselves could never really make up their mind on the true origins of mutants.
you are great at identifying the previous easter eggs like the trask ad
18:57 the way that I see it (to make it make more sense) is that when Logan changes the future, it makes a new varient of the timeline
Lol, Nat tripping on Peter’s American accent considering he’s from New Jersey that’s just his normal voice.
Now I want the whole story
Yesss I’ve been waiting for u to do this🔥🔥🔥
I personally don't think Rogue cut is too big of a deal.
@@CARTOONIVERSE1 I've encountered a few in my time. If you aren't really paying attention to the environment around them it's an easy mistake to make.

Well said.
There are certain movies that need to be watched in the directors cut, but I agree, they're watching a movie. Let them watch in peace.
@@andyreiber3624 they really are.
