I will be 60 in a couple weeks and so enjoy your channel!! Always so calm and beautiful. I watch you while I'm in my kitchen and that's a lot. Thank you very much. :)
I’m 70 years old and I absolutely love your videos you and your husband are so good together your recipes are fantastic I just thoroughly enjoy you thank you for what you do
Here's a pro tip for making sausage patties for those that have arthritic hands or are just cold sensitive, and it saves time too. Line a sheet pan with parchment or wax paper, place ground meat on paper, roll out to edges with a rolling pin (I use a marble pin for cleaning purposes instead of a wooden one, but you can use a glass too, and just put a little water on either to keep it from getting ground meat sticky), use a pastry/bench scraper to cut into desired sizes, use a spatula to lift individual patties, then you only need to use your bare hands to form up the edges. They'll be square instead of round, but if it hurts your hands, you won't care, and really, what does it matter what shape they are? When wrapping patties to freeze, the square shape will cut down on the amount of air trapped in between them. But if you're dead set on round patties, use a biscuit cutter instead of the pastry/bench scraper. Your kitchen, your choice. When meat is partially frozen before being placed in a grinder, it's better for your grinder motor and keeps it from getting too hot. The small rounded leaves at the bottom of those tomato plants are called sucker leaves and should be removed, because they suck a lot of nutrients from the rest of the plant because they are the first leaves nearest the root, and by removing them your plants will be stronger and healthier. Hate it when folks don't give ingredients for something when folks take the time to watch the video, then we have to chase the recipe across the internet or just forget it altogether.
Used to work in a butchers shop. In an effort to save your hands, you could ball up your meat, place them between parchment squares, then use a heavy can (such as a bulk ketchup can) to flatten it. It's how we did burgers. Thought it might save you some time and effort going forward! I still make burgers that way at home.
I had vowed “no more homesteading Channels” - and then I found you! Thank you for the variety you share. I’m 76 and won’t be doing a lot of what you do, but it’s my favorite stuff to watch.
I use painter’s tape for everything! People have crickets and fancy label makers, I use the painters tape and a sharpie 😂😂. Love your videos, you make me feel welcome! ❤
I came to say that using the masking tape is great for labelling freezer food if you don't have special labels. Though I just bought myself water soluble freezer labels, so no more trying to peel off said tape! 😂
I am so excited for you and your channel. Your content is way up there with the best of all YT homesteaders. Can't wait to see you reach 100k and beyond. It is well-deserved!
I just have to tell you that whenever I see that you've posted a video, it feels like my lucky day. I truly enjoy them so much. I love your recipes and use almost all of them (but in much smaller quantities) and am fascinated by life on the farm. Did you film any of your pig butchering? I liked watching you make sausage and dealing with the ribs and the cuts looked professional. You are amazing, thank you for sharing.
What a kind and thoughtful comment. Thank you so much! I didn’t film it - I don’t feel like I’m good enough at it to teach it. The guys at Handhewn farm are amazing and a great resource for butchering.
Just started following you recently and am grateful I found you! So knowledgeable and helpful!! Sending gratitude from the Catskill Mountains of New York! God Bless! 💖🐓❄️
Hi Chelsey, I laugh when you said that you use your grill to hide the meat, etc, from the animals, I remember when we had cats, we had their food in those red and blue barrels with a ring and a hand look and the crazy Racoons opened it and tip it over and made a mess, LOL, so just in case, be careful, LOL, much love, everything looks amazingly delicious. Thank you for sharing
I'm am definitely Camp Tea! Never developed a taste for coffee. It's interesting to watch you brew your tea, it brings back memories of my late grandmother. Her stepmother was English and very high brow. So whenever we were around her, we had tea with milk, or clotted cream with honey or sugar. And of course cookies.
Hey Chelsea, just watching this vid today (Nov 12/23)… in regards to your explanation about the ‘tiny hairs’ on the tomato plant, I just wanted to share, that I believe those tiny hairs are a clue (despite the white orby thing you talked about), a clue that if that hairy stem is planted horizontally, multiple plants will grow from that stem. I experimented with these types of stems with both zinnias and sunflowers. I was thrilled to see that my zinnias grew a stream of new stems that produced zinnia flowers! Same with the sunflowers! So, I dunno, the hairy stems are a good clue that multiple plants will grow if planted horizontally in the soil…
With regards to your recent comments about how expensive lettuce is in Canada, I bought a pack of 2 heads of Little Gem for £0.69 GB (approx 1.14 CD) in our local supermarket this week. Lots of food here in Wales has gone up in price significantly but lettuce isn’t one of them.
Good morning, great video, I love cutting and wrapping meat. We most just get moose and deer but we love pork and would love to get a half or whole hog, I have never butchered a pig before but would love to. I would also love to make sausage. Since I too have saved Todd’s recipe for their breakfast sausage. I admire you so much for all you do and all you guys are capable of doing. Cheers ❄️🇨🇦❄️
We do not have Bulk Barn. I found this information when I looked it up: While bulk bin sections can be found at many grocery stores in the U.S., but there is no American equivalent to Bulk Barn in terms of its scale and ubiquity. BB has been around since 1982 and currently has more than 275 stores selling over 3,000 products across Canada.Nov 15, 2022
I just grow regular celebrity tomatoe plants for canning 🍅 tomatoe juice… it’s just my husband and I our girls are grown and have their own families so we don’t grow a lot of food but I grow about 50-60 plants and I give my girls juice as well
What a wonderful video with so much information. I always love watching your videos. I wait and look every day for new ones. You are so inspiring to me. 👍❤️
Yah!!! more Canadian content. Wow! How different is this huge country....I don't start my tomatoes until mid April or later. Thanks for the great content. Will have to try you pork grind recipes as our pigs are ready to get in the freezer.
My mom made puff pastry when I was growing. I love the idea of adding cream cheese and fruit spread. I am definitely trying that this weekend!……….My husband asked me to try making our own sausage. You have convinced me to put it on my list of things to try making.
I have an old recipe called Danish Puff aka Almond Puff, the recipe I got from an old pharmacist calls for 3 eggs, she also made a pastry, two strips, then created a filling placed on the pastry strips, baking for an hour. 🥰 I also love that almond flavoring!
I love to watch your videos. And alwaya looking forward to your new post. Keep up the good and exciting content. I love how you make your food for your family.
Yes, yes and yes, you are back and I am so delighted for that. I am watching this while lying in bed. I’m trying to sleep and it’s the best way to end. A good day is with you and your channel is so homey thank you.❤
i,m a mint tea drinker, also rose, rosehip and hibiscus tea drinker, when i feel a cold coming on lemon, ginger tea,my fave is licorice root and mint, but sparingly lol xx
I live in rural Pennsylvania, US. We don’t have a Bulk Barn. I’m the SAME way about thinning plants & having extra plants from the Amish greenhouse. We plant more then when we need bc I can’t bring myself to kill them.
I am a big coffee fan as well! You make my mouth water gallons! Cookbook coming along I heard!🙂 Thanks for sharing your life with us and your thoughts and ideas and family!! I appreciate your channel! God Bless you!
Sounds like your daughter is following closely her mother in the kitchen!! Awesome looking pizzas! Those ribs I bet were incredible!!! How many pigs did you butcher at one time? Your salad greens look delicious! Do you know for each of those tiny lettuce seedlings you can grow and entire head of lettuce! If you just trim the outer leaves as it grows and leave the Center to continue growing but you will have to pot them up into their own pots like you did the tomato plants even if you just do a dozen or so you will be amazed how they will grow and very quickly! That way you won’t have to use as many seeds because growing microgreens can get very expensive buying seeds especially lettuce seeds. Even buying a few thousand at a time you have to use a lot of seeds when you are growing just microgreens. So use those seeds to their fullest potential and grow full plants instead. Just an idea. 🥰❤️🇨🇦🙏🏻
LOL, luv the location of your vacuum cleaner....same place as mine! I also use to wrap meat and even took a course @ College.....your wrapping of meat is spot on.....Thank you for your posts.
Ok, for your store, I was thinking maybe aprons with logos and/or magnets for the refrigerator. Logos, neat products you grow, animals you have, etc. Just a thought.
99K! Hopefully to roll over by the end of today! I really love your content and how you present the info. So nice to be stocked up on pork products! Just black Pekoe tea for me. You just planted those little tomatoes end of December and they look so good and strong! I was just wondering if you had a printed seed starting plan. I will check your website.
Good Saturday morning Little Mountain Ranch. That homegrown salad looks absolutely delicious - aso does that homemade almond puff pastry. I definitely can't wait to try it. 👍👍
This was such a great video I had to comment twice. What a gift your dad gave you, to butcher. That warms my heart. I hope one of your children will want to learn. You have made growing micro green seem easy. I had watched another video and they used so much soil, to me,it seemed like a waste. Not that composting is a waste but…..you know what I mean. Anyways I will have to order some,of those shallow trays. Thanks so much Chelsea 🌷
I loved EVERYTHING about this video! I have been wanting to make sausage for so long - thank you for linking the seasoning. Big fan of cheese/fruit pastries, can't wait to try your version and I am the exact same way about thinning. This past summer I gave tons of baby plants to my neighbors to grow because I couldn't bear throwing my babies out! I know, what a sap! ....and I just noticed you reached 100K!!! Congratulations!! 👏🎉 🥰
Wow! I love the sausage and bacon recipes. As you can imagine, I really get hungry for those tastes from home. Here there are many different kinds of sausage. Nothing that is even similiar to what you are making and what I am used to! Thank you very much!
We just had our first salad of micro greens and sprouts this week. Thank you for the inspiration to grow healthy greens in the middle of NH winter! Your channel is the first I look to see if there is a new video and then I save it till I get my cup of tea and can relax and enjoy it.❤
I love homemade sausage. Here in Florida is venison is very mild and delicious but italian (with fennel) is our favorite fried with onions and peppers on a hoagie bun - so good. I haven't had that in so long as the Walmart where we get the meat doesn't have it flavored as well as the butcher did it when he was in business. Maybe we could make our own if they would grind the pork. I'lll have to check on that. Great video today - that almond puff is also something I need to try as I love that flavor. YUM
I just have to say I really do love to watch your channel. Your kids are all great. You're so multi talented and you show such respect when you talk to your kiddos!!! What a great family.

I don't know how you manage to juggle so many projects but you're amazing ♡ and always inspiring and motivating me
💕
Try mixing your jam into the cream cheese and spread it ….it keeps it from oozing out. It’s what I did when I made pastries.
Smart!
As a fellow Canadian thank you so much for sharing where you get your bulk stuff from! I greatly appreciate it.
Coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon and then something like a chamomile tea in the evening 😊 that sausage looks amazing!
