I can totally see why you guys moved here! Running hot &cold water, an indoor toilet & shower! An underground creeping storage facility, Moose on your front lawn….. man the upgrades dazzle me! Well done on hauling the chickies and Pepper over, they will settle in just fine. And it never ceases to amaze me how hard you two keep on working! It’s really as Arnold say’s: “You can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets!” And I’ve never seen you two with your hands in your pockets…. Great vid and great looking pies too. Bet they tasted yummie!

@@debrapaff7543 I could be wrong but I think they’re meaning children to carry on the upkeep and continued success of their homestead. I’m 50 and I do everything I can to maintain my strength and health because my girls aren’t interested in homestead life. Fortunately my husband is 35 so that helps and his 28 year old brother eagerly learns everything we have time to show him. It gives me hope that there will be someone to carry on the homestead when the time comes.

There is just something about this video. I'm not sure what it is, but I loved every minute of it. Maybe it's the care you gave your chickens, your cat, your dogs, through this move, maybe it's the caution regarding the behavior of the moose, your reactions to having an indoor shower, toilet, unlimited water, etc. It's you, living your lives. In a world of crazy, you bring it all back to 'simple living' -- Alaska!

Wow! I've never been first to comment. Isn't moving fun?!? So good to finally see kitty get moved to her new home. When I moved away after college my father drove the U-haul with my cat, over 500 miles. I've never had to move chickens; sorry about all the pecking bites Eric. At least you didn't have to pick them up again. Nice of them to fly out of the boxes and leave you some eggs. I wonder what my father would have thought about MRE's since he had c-rations during his Army service. I remember eating some of those c-rations as a kid. 🐔🐱 Would be wonderful to see you hit 1M subscribers this year. 👍

You need a Broom of Doom for the chickens. We attached some jingle bells to an old broom. We trained the chickens to run for the coop when we would herd them with the Broom of Doom. It is a great tool for chicken herding as it extends your arm considerably. We would bounce the broom on the ground to jiggle the bells. Train the chick's too.

Started life in the country. Moved to town when I was 5. Can remember heating water in our the wood stove. Mother had a propane washing machine in an other building. The water for that was heated in a large black cast iron pot over a fire. We 6 children would take baths outside in the summer. We would take turns holding up the card to let the rural ice man know how many pounds of ice to bring to the ice box. Now 79 and cherish those memories.
That black pot was also to render lard and crackling when a hog was butcher.

Yay, you made it!!! So nice to see the chickens in their new digs, and your cat kneading the tractor tire...so sweet! Can't believe the rooster decided to go 'sploring...what a wild child! You've got oodles of space. Things are shaping up....esp. with hot and cold running water!! Well water is a beautiful thing! Woohoo!!! MRE stash...sweet! That moose looks confused...he's probably been running through your property freely, and now you guys are there. He'll adjust. Pie?? Yum!
Lotsa love to you both, hugs and cuddles to the fur babies, and give the chickens some extra greens on my behalf! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

How exciting to begin your new chapter! Eric, I am always impressed at how much knowledge you have to fix or build just about anything. Beautiful Pepper and the boys are just happy to be anywhere you are. Will you be going back to scoop up all your garden soil gold for your new garden? Hope you guys get some good rest. You have done an amazing amount of work already!

Happy New Home!!! A crawl space suggestion is to put wooden tracks in the crawl space and add casters on your totes. Then you can just push/pull them around. You can even add hook and loops to the totes to create little “trains.” 🚂

On a previous video you discussed using birch bark for starting a fire.
My father in law burned birch wood for heat for over 80 years. He cut wood during the summer and split the small rounds of logs from 6 inches and up (some as big as 30 inches) The logs were split so they would dry faster. When splitting the birch wood, often the bark would come off and smaller pieces of wood were left from the splitting. The bark and the small pieces of wood were collected in boxes and stored in the woodshed to be used to start future fires in the stove. There was enough bark and small pieces of wood to start fires for the season. The "green" wood was seasoned over the summer, fall, winter spring and the next summer before using the wood in the wood stove.
