Lisa is crushing it! Eating foods outside your comfort zone is such a mental battle-especially when it comes to trying new “proteins”-but love to see y’all diving in! Also, LOVE jackfruit!
We lived in Laos 2007-2015. Crickets were on the menu quite a bit. They are called jii nyai in Laos. Nice sauteed in kaffir lime leaves, chilli and garlic. Nibbly kind of food you have with a cold beer. Too much jack fruit gives me a belly ache. Very nice though.
Bugs that you had tried , the glasshopper. I used to eat it often when I was a kid but nowsday in Bangkok hard to find the delicious one. Those bugs with Singha beer alway super good ;)
Oh wow! which are you favorite and what made tit he most delicious one? yes! we've heard a cold beer with the crispy bugs is the way to eat them--we will have to try next time
Lisa, you are a ROCKSTAR!! I like how you put it in your mouth fast!!! Josh way to man up and eat yours. You guts are definitely getting your adventure on.
Love looking at all the beautiful fruit and yummy food. You are both very brave to try those things with wings🪳🦗💪 Will you be eating the fresh durian, Josh?
We haven't been able to locate any durian yet on this portion of the trip yet, actually. We are just a bit too early for durian season, but want to get some soon!
you are so brave!, not many westerner (or even local Thai person) ever tried "future of food" that much. Perception of insect might not be "Present" Even now it still take me couples of second until I can put it on my mouth too. hahaha.
love that idea of the "future of food." we read that many people are now eating insects to help with the environment too. it definitely took us a little bit of courage, but we were so pleasantly surprised! could see ourselves trying it more often
The East of Chiang Mai has some great spots. I highly recommend you venture outside the Nimman area to get some adventure. Although living in Nimman is great, due to the wonderful co-worker spots / cafes / restaurants / western amenities / new condos. Check out Brett Dev's channel - programmer who's lived in Chiang Mai for many years. A video of places he's lived: ua-cam.com/video/hFDFz1oecxE/v-deo.html (old - prices out of date but neighborhoods the same). Back to the video: Good for you trying those bugs! I wouldn't buy the silk worms / larvae - they pop in your mouth and are nasty. But the bugs made of cartilage fry up to just a tasty snack. Nothing wrong with having a routine - but I recommend you visit co-working spots / cafes to rather than stay inside all the time with the laptop, even if it's easy to do. Many Thai and expats get up early, do some exercise, then go back A/C inside for work when it starts heating up, get lunch, then take a nap in the afternoon to wake up after sunset when it cools off. It's a nice schedule once you get used to it. :)
awesome! you always have great tips! yeah, we've the silk worms are an experience haha after a week here, we've definitely found ourselves spending more time outside of Nimman than in, which we love! that sounds like a great schedule
@@LisaAndJosh Usually the don’t sell them😂 but ask them😁.In the pan on low heat it tastes like chestnut but faster boil. 10 seeds maybe 5Bath? Try them😊

Looked like you enjoyed it, did you ever figure out what the sauce was?
Next time ask the jackfruit vendor to sell you the seeds .. boil for 20-30 minutes! Very good. Last time he ate about 40-50 years ago!😂😂😂
wow! we had no idea!! that sounds so good. Are they like sunflower or pumpkin seeds? How much will they usually sell for?
