When you compare on the UA-cam landscape for info about dtv visa with all the fals informations… this video is pure gold. Pure gold! I applied for it just yesterday thanks to this clear info
Thank you for this, I have been waiting to see how this actually shakes out; visited for my first time in April, will already be back for 9 weeks later this year for me and my company to test if me being there works for both us. The stars have kind of aligned for me on this visa
Hi Chris! Thank you for all the efforts. One issue that was not discussed was whether a stay exceeding 180 days (whatever the number of entries) in a calendar year will lead to tax liability, but I suppose we just have to assume that, at least in theory, you have tax obligations in Thailand if you stay longer than 180 days. This visa, at least as it was announced, does bring legal clarity and the right to work in Thailand for foreign employers, which is great, but whether there's tax liabilities beyond that period of time is something I haven't seen addressed. Thanks again.
Yes, if you stay more then 6 months you have to pay tax... Some say you get double taxed, meaning you pay tax in you own country (where your company is registered) and in Thailand.
This visa just got a lot more appealing with your clarifications -- thanks for taking the trip to the office to get the answers from an official source. I wasn't sure before now about the "1 x 180-day extension" and if it was for example a maximum of 180 days per calendar year etc -- now I know for sure. Excellent "perks" with this one.
Just got back to LA from Thailand and catching up on your videos. Chris, I absolutely adore you for doing this! You went straight to the official source and cleared things up for so many of us. Sending love from California!
Don’t worry Chris no one gets it right 100% all of the time I’m just grateful you have the guts to try and give us information rather than us going through the wringer. Thai rules can change like the wind and are not always clear. Thank you for your dedication to us and actually caring about your subscribers x
Going above and beyond as usual Chris. Can't thank you enough for all the effort you put into giving us up to date accurate information, and your charity work. Cheers!
MFA Officials in Thailand are smart people and most of them have studied abroad, taught at universities and in his position he most certainly held many international postings at Thai Embassies before. MFA positions are very prestigious in Thailand, they don’t hire people who aren’t capable.
Thanks for the confirmation on the 180 day rule. This is far more generous than I originally thought. I just got my approval for the new Destination Thailand Visa today. I submitted it on the new web site originally on July 3, then they asked for more documentation on July 30: a fresh financial statement, my Spanish ID card, my plane ticket (which is a Catch-22 and a whole different problem...) and a portfolio of my work so I put together a PDF of my latest prototyping projects. I got the approval today, categorized as a freelance software designer. So I'm good for stretches of 180 days in-country for the next 5 years which is perfect for my needs. This is a big change from my old Thai O-A visa which required $24K stuck in a local bank account, a local health insurance policy, paying for a visa extension and re-entry permit every year, and a newly imposed tax on funds brought into Thailand. The whole process took 2 months but I'm sure they got a flood of applications. Mine was handled by the embassy in Madrid.
@@kpopbutlofi I got the first response asking for more documentation after about a month. I live part of the year in Barcelona and filed on the web site and it was handled in Madrid.
Chris, Good interview. If you ever have another meeting the DDG or better, with the Immigration Department, please question them on the necessity of TM47 (90 Day Reporting). Division 1 is now requiring in-person reporting "Your application for "STAYING LONGER THAN 90 DAYS" has been rejected. For first-time requests of a 90-day notification in each country visit, in-person presentation at the immigration office is required." It's a pain in the butt how often they flip flop at Division 1. All the best to you.
@@spiritedguy2 Been doing mail-in and online reporting since they started enforcing TM47 about 8 years ago. Only had to do in-person once when I got a new passport. All other times when I go out of Thailand and come back, online reporting worked. But not now. Division 1 rejected my whole family because we went to Lao and came back and I plan to go out again next month. So it's another in-person reporting to Division 1.
Thanks Chris. I live in the USA and just returned from Thailand. I was there for 27 days touring several cities and Temple sites and have been thinking about retiring there for quite some time. This information explains everything very well.
I got my DTV approved in 2 days via the London embassy. Very easy online DIY. It was £300 fee so closer to 15k thb but well worth it! Didn’t have to visit the embassy either.
I'm an American based in China hoping to move to Thailand on the DTV visa as a remote freelancer within 1-2 years, so this is incredibly helpful. Thank you!!
Another great video Chris! Thank you! Can you do a video on the process for bringing a dog into Thailand? And also the process of taking the dog back out of Thailand if you had to. Thanks again!
If anybody from the Consular is reading these comments please consider revising the rules for residency next. There are many of us who are married to Thai citizens and have lived, worked, and payed taxes here for many years, yet it's still very hard to get residency. Could you consider automaticly granting residency if certain criteria are met? If somebody is married, has stayed for X years or payed X Baht in Tax then they are granted a residence visa automatically for instance. I realise your main focus is tourism, but we also contribute greatly to the economy and the annual Non-Im O visa with 90 day reporting is very inconvienient. Thank you.
I have seen some sad cases where someone has stayed here 30 years and just because of some new paperwork rule they were about to get kicked out. They should do a residency Lite - perhaps not full residency - for anyone here over say 25 years.
@domi9577 All the others are abused they know that and are just simplifying things. Think about it this is about generating tax they want the nomads paying. They actually want workers long staying paying some tax without pissing off there own citizens.
Thanks for the great explanation! I applied for my visa after watching this video and will move to Thailand soon. The process was very smooth and professional. Appreciate the info
13:20-13:40 for an extension within the kingdom sounds like you need to show again your proof of portfolio. But if you leave before the 180 days and re-enter that you do not. So in theory as I see it, one could get DTV in cooking, language classes, etc for the 5 years with only one proof of portfolio (the original) as long as you bounced out before the 180 days was up and re-entered for another 180 days. If so, I see a lot of abuse. I too am one that thought originally that it was only for 180 days and then only one 180 extension in the 5 years as no one could explain it otherwise. Thank you for that clarification.
Thank you Chris to clear the air, that probably is the better way to beat all the rumour. Thank you for the effort to interview with the Thai foreign ministry official !!! Appreciate it !
He seemed so smart and nice. Maybe one day I can sound as good in his language as he does in mine. Thank you for this video I'm definitely interested in this program.
Can I get this visa if I am retired? I do not work for any company/organization my current income is from Stocks investment with a financial company, thanks Chris please advice, Cheers!
Your income may be taxable if you stay greater than 180d within a year as you become a Thai tax citizen then. However it may be better than your home country tax thresholds so you'd have to check, however if you don't declare your taxable income in home country then you have something to think about and research etc. A course of some form may be best for you to use DTV, you'd have to check the options. You could do a 180d per year and then go to other countries or back home etc.
Omg such a polite Government official. Here in NewYork, when I visit DMV office even the clerks are unhelpful, unprofessional, dismissive & unbothered.

@winnerwinnerchickendinner8809 Philippines 🇵🇭 Bargirls are of lower quality and so is their Infrastructure.
Excellent stuff, great work Chris, very clear now.
Hi Chris - thanks for doing this interview! It was very informative - deputy general Ninnad was great and well spoken!
It would be nice to get that part about taxation clarified as well.
@@matty0086 I soon found another video on this channel that does just that.
Once the Thai government realize digital nomads will avoid paying tax, they will cancel everyone's DTV visa 🤣
Yes, if you stay more then 6 months you have to pay tax... Some say you get double taxed, meaning you pay tax in you own country (where your company is registered) and in Thailand.
gotta love the 'sofa visa experts' on UA-cam... keep up the good work Chris!!
This is awesome. I can’t wait to come back in using this for sure
This is BIG!! Thank you friend 🙏🫵🏽🤴
Thanks, finally someone that manage to clear this up :D
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE. I LOVE THAILAND AND I WANT A DTV ASAP. TRAINING MUAY THAI SOUNDS SO FUN!
Don’t worry Chris no one gets it right 100% all of the time I’m just grateful you have the guts to try and give us information rather than us going through the wringer. Thai rules can change like the wind and are not always clear. Thank you for your dedication to us and actually caring about your subscribers x
Hi Carol any advice for a 70s year old single lady planning to move to Thailand?😊😊
Going above and beyond as usual Chris. Can't thank you enough for all the effort you put into giving us up to date accurate information, and your charity work.
Cheers!
Wow, what a well spoken guy - in his second language!
MFA Officials in Thailand are smart people and most of them have studied abroad, taught at universities and in his position he most certainly held many international postings at Thai Embassies before. MFA positions are very prestigious in Thailand, they don’t hire people who aren’t capable.
Absolutely excellent video Chris Parker. Hats off to you for this. Great explanations too
I'm currently living in Thailand with a DTV visa and there have still been so many unanswered questions until I saw this video.
Thank you for the great video! Awesome job to both of you
Thank you Chris for straight out with the deputy. Take care. 👍👏
Mine was handled by the embassy in Madrid.
how long did it take the embassy to give you a first feedback after your application? Was it in your home country or not?
@@kpopbutlofi I got the first response asking for more documentation after about a month. I live part of the year in Barcelona and filed on the web site and it was handled in Madrid.
@@MikesTropicalTech oh wow, two months is too long. They are supposed to deliver your visas in days, it's in their guidelines
@@kpopbutlofi Agreed, but it just launched so I'm sure they had a big flood of applications. Luckily I had the time to wait.
@@MikesTropicalTech probably yes but hey, you got it ✌🏼
Chris, Good interview.
First time report upon entry has always been in person, the following reports were in person or by mail, what's new is online reporting.
@@spiritedguy2furthermore, what do you think of the necessity of TM47 reporting? Pretty ridiculous right?
Just as I am planning my departure from Europe to live as a digital nomad in SE Asia, this comes out. Delightful!
Thanks Chris. I live in the USA and just returned from Thailand. I was there for 27 days touring several cities and Temple sites and have been thinking about retiring there for quite some time. This information explains everything very well.
You Sir are an absolute LEGEND, Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
I got my DTV approved in 2 days via the London embassy. Very easy online DIY. It was £300 fee so closer to 15k thb but well worth it! Didn’t have to visit the embassy either.
THB 14,000 if applying through Australia (AUD600)
Thank you!! Best information I've heard so far!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for doing all the leg work. We all know how hard it can be to get clear answers regarding visa situations in Thailand.
That makes this new DTV visa worth everything. This is the best visa for digital people EVER.
Actually crazy good. I can’t believe you can extend 180 days every time..amazing
Well done mate, straight to the source, can't do better than that. Thanks so much.
Brilliant interview. Finally some clarification. Thank you for the effort and time. This is very helpful
Thank you.
bingo-point, and the 5 years granted via DTV cannot be really considered as anyone's total goal, I stay there 5 years, that's it...
I have seen some sad cases where someone has stayed here 30 years and just because of some new paperwork rule they were about to get kicked out. They should do a residency Lite - perhaps not full residency - for anyone here over say 25 years.
@@nb8665 are they that materialistic? how comes I am always the last to be advised... 🤣
Wow this really is a game changer. 5 years unlimited entry 😊
And just wait for it to be abused (fake employment letters etc) and be scrapped within a year....
@domi9577 All the others are abused they know that and are just simplifying things. Think about it this is about generating tax they want the nomads paying. They actually want workers long staying paying some tax without pissing off there own citizens.
That's not what is is😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@PopTartLee what do you think it is listening to that politician
@@anto-501 don't have a Clue......Ben hart says Wait.....lol.hahaha.

I love how you're making even some online lawyers eat their words with this video :)) kickin' ass man
Chris, love what you do, man. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the great explanation! I applied for my visa after watching this video and will move to Thailand soon. The process was very smooth and professional. Appreciate the info
The guy is a real gentleman.
Absolutely brilliant.
Awesome work by none other than our own friend @RW4U , thank you so much for this video and clarification on this DTV Visa.
You're the best! It's inspiring to see you being recognised by a Thai Authority for your Thai advocacy. We'll be there in October. Selene and John
YOU'RE A LEGEND!!! Thanks for clearing that up. Going next week! Can't wait for Nana Plaza!!
How about TM-30 and 90 day reporting? Also what if you are already on a different visa, can you simply apply for dtv?
13:20-13:40 for an extension within the kingdom sounds like you need to show again your proof of portfolio. But if you leave before the 180 days and re-enter that you do not. So in theory as I see it, one could get DTV in cooking, language classes, etc for the 5 years with only one proof of portfolio (the original) as long as you bounced out before the 180 days was up and re-entered for another 180 days. If so, I see a lot of abuse. I too am one that thought originally that it was only for 180 days and then only one 180 extension in the 5 years as no one could explain it otherwise. Thank you for that clarification.
Now you believe it when a bigger UA-camr interviews the same person 😂
@@markritchie5542 might be difficult or might not be difficult - it depends on the embassies who make decisions
Do you still have to do 90 day reporting? Thank you
Thank you Chris to clear the air, that probably is the better way to beat all the rumour. Thank you for the effort to interview with the Thai foreign ministry official !!! Appreciate it !
He seemed so smart and nice. Maybe one day I can sound as good in his language as he does in mine. Thank you for this video I'm definitely interested in this program.
Chris you are the best.
And say it one more time
I told you so 😂
Can I get this visa if I am retired? I do not work for any company/organization my current income is from Stocks investment with a financial company, thanks Chris please advice, Cheers!
great question.
maybe he should interview with the tax office. I hope the answer will be as positive.
You could sign up for a class one time for the initial visa.
Perhaps that makes you a freelancer. Just show your share portfolio and financial returns.
You can't really compare some crappy DMV with a top-line government official employed as a diplomat.
Thats why I love Chris!! He leaves no stone unturned!
Absolutely amazing …..
Well done Chris! 🙏🏼
Another awesome and super informative video, thanks Chris! I have a DTV currently processing at the Thai Embassy a couple hours east of the Peter Patch and Little Lake and hope to have it soon.
There was a request or two for additional documents but happy to report my DTV Visa was approved under freelance as a UA-camr. Thanks so much Chris for all your helpful, informative and entertaining videos!
Excellent video! Always good to hear the facts from a government official. Thanks!
Finally someone actually taking their time getting information from the source. Excelent video, thanks. Keep up the good work. 😊😊
at least i appeciate you. and i wanna thank you also for clearing all doubts. hopefully you are doing well in Thailand. hope to one day be there aswell god willing.
you rock Chris! i watched this video and 8 days later im good to go for 5 years - WOW that was easy!

Great work Chris looking forward to more of your content and learning more from you and to visiting Thailand soon.
