00:00 [Parenting Advice: 10 Things I Wish I'd Known Before Having a Baby]
00:21 [10. Do what works for you and don't get on the internet because you can Google anything and everyone has a different opinion]
    00:42 [9. Get on a schedule!]
00:52 [8. Be sure to take time for yourself. Go to they gym, drop the baby off at grandma's, take a 20 minute nap, etc.]
01:06 [7. Discover who your baby is and let them be. Don't try to mold them to what you want]
01:14 [6. Be prepared for the unexpected because it will happen]
01:30 [5. You're going to have to make room for the baby. They come with SO many things!!!]
01:46 [4. Memories are the only thing you'll have after all is said and done. So be sure to make and keep some keepsakes.]
02:03 [3. Be grateful for your kids!]
02:31 [2. Don't be too hard on yourself. The house can wait. All of the chores can wait.]
02:55 [1. The one thing you can't understand and prepare for, that you're not going to know until you experience it is all the love. Be prepared to love something more than you ever thought you could.]
Relax! You're going to do great.

I've lost count how many times I've watched this video, and every time I've cried. It's always been something have come back to, when my husband and I were trying to conceive and nothing was happening. When I wanted to give up, this video would remind me why I felt so strongly about becoming a mum. Happily, I'm pregnant with that longed for baby, and the tears I cry now are of joy and excitement of what we have to come :)

One of the best things my wife and I did was taking turns getting a good night's rest. Instead of us taking turns waking up each night, we just swapped nights. As long as one of us was fresh and awake (instead of us both drowsy), we handled things much better.

***** - NOOO.. A 13 year old girl would cry from this because it's just an emotional video.. that's not very accurate advice lol. Even people who don't want children like me found this emotional, because it's just an emotional video.. designed like that.. people crying.. sad music.. facial expressions.. slow pace.. etc. The idea is to manipulate your emotions.. movies do it all the time "this part is supposed to be sad because we're playing sad music".
Also to clarify, "every great" is probably just joking. But still.

Zoe Blayney - It was a pretty good video.. it can also work better on people if they want a kid more than others too of course. But yea.. I don't want 13 year old girls thinking "Oh yay I'm ready to have a baby now" lol.

    • @SarcastSempervirens
      @SarcastSempervirens 8 років тому +1

+Zoe Blayney because you're alive and human and feel love and are able to empathise with others and feel a part of what they feel, in this case love for their children. it's how humans are built, it's how we are what we are as a species.

No 11 - No matter what they do, how much they stress you out, take a few seconds and always think of this.......what would you do if they were gone. Sobering thought to get you through any sleepless night, tantrum, public meltdown or teenage rebellion. No one gets it right 100% of the time. Luckily kids forgive easily. It's a shame as adults we hold grudges and life becomes less colourful. Parenthood is a privellege not a right. Cherish that. I do 4 times over 💖💖💖💖

Now that I'm older and more mentally mature, I'm slowly starting to understand and appreciate how much my parents have done for me in my life, how much they must love me.
And I actually feel really bad as to how long it took for me to realise this, I was such a happy, oblivious child and never learned to truly appreciate my parents until so much later. :'|

This is perfect and so beautiful! After four daughters, I can say one important thing to remember is that each baby is a puzzle, you just have to put together the pieces. You are getting to know him or her as much as he or she is getting to know the world.

I can't help but tear up when I hear the sincere love in all of these people's voices. Are not emotions. That's not the 'heart' (metaphore). Those are the chemicals in the brain that pulls you in that state, so you won't leave the creature. Nothing emotional about that.

As a father of three who are high school/early college age, I would say that don't worry that you'll have to do everything perfect in order to raise an amazing child into an amazing adult. Just provide structure, consistency, gentle guidance and LOTS AND LOTS of love. They will do the rest on their own and become amazing people. Trust me on this!

All very good points. The one thing I tell parents of young children is to treasure every moment. Looking back I realized how simple life was when my kids were small and how much more demanding it gets when they get bigger -- more running, more money, bigger problems, much less or no control, outside influences, and constantly reacting to things you didn't have control over in the first place.

I remember watching this video when my friend got pregnant because she posted it on her Facebook wall and it made me cry. I just came across this again and it made me cry even harder. I recently miscarried for the second time. My husband and I are trying for a baby and it's just been really hard to have to go through two miscarriages in a row. I know someday it will happen, and when that day comes it will be the best day of my life. Being a mom is something I've wanted to be my entire life. Sorry for the rant. My emotions are just all over the place right now.

Get on a schedule! We are still trying to figure that out. Running a tight ship is easier said than done! But we have learned that consistency goes a LONG way and is great for the kids. Then it becomes routine and they know what to expect and find comfort in the routine.

"Don't mould them into what you want them to be, discover who they are and let them be."
Jeez, I wish my parents would do that... They're trying to make me this perfect person when I'm more imperfect than every person combined...

I'm a new mom to be... Several weeks before those those 2 red lines showed up, I was debating on permanently enabling my ability to have children... I was one of those people that were pretty sure they didn't want kids. Mainly because I'm afraid of failing them. Well, though still worried, I actually jumped up and down in joy when I saw the positive result. Well.. 4 months in, I'll be finding out the little sea monkey's gender in a few days... And the inevitability of being a mom bulldozed me down two days ago... Terrified, I looked up tips... And found this super positive message. Thank you so much. You made this 26 year old woman shaking in her boots relax and smile.

I'm 27, and thinking about becoming a mom, but I'm also thinking about the fact that I'll most likely be in Jockey school this time next year. I'd be worried about the last month or two of pregnancy... That's *if* I don't get pregnant within the next 3 months.

Stina H. - As long as you have a realistic approach where you know the good and bad.. it would suck to go into it blind and only seeing the positive side or being ignorant.
