  • We take a look at DeWALT's newest Impact driver. The DCF850 in DeWALT sub-atomic lineup packs a punch in a small footprint. How does it stack up against the DCF887, Pretty similar. Not as much of an upgrade as you would expect for a long awaited update.
At less than 4 inches in length, the Atomic 20V MAX 1/4 in. Brushless Cordless 3-Speed Impact Driver can handle tight applications like narrow cabinetry or framing without the need for an additional tool. Though the Impact Driver is lightweight and compact in size, it does not sacrifice performance with its brushless motor that delivers up to 1,825 in-lb of torque and 3,250 rpm for driving large-diameter screws. Illuminate dim workspaces for enhanced visibility with the 3-LED on-board work light and keep your workflow consistent.
MANEUVER WITH EASE: Compact, under 4 in. design for optimized ergonomics and access to difficult-to-reach spots
HIGH-PERFORMANCE BRUSHLESS MOTOR delivers 1,825 in-lb of torque and 3,250 rpm to drive large-diameter screws
PRO-LEVEL CONTROL and precision with a variable 3-speed trigger
BRIGHTEN DARK WORK AREAS: Integrated 3-LED work light enhances visibility in dimly lit spaces
Ideal for Framing, Decking, Cabinetry, Electrical, Dry-Wall and Plumbing/Mechanical

Thanks for the review, you are the only person I've seen that has properly explained mode 1 on this tool thanks

I love that little guy (850). I nhave noticed that myself, that my 887 is just a hair faster than my 850. We are talking about minimal difference but it’s noticeable. Appreciate the upload man. Always a pleasure 👊

The 1" bit they were referring to accommodating is the length, not the diameter.

I can’t decided between this dcf850 or a m12 fuel impact driver. I don’t have either of the brands battery, looking to start fresh, upgrading from ryobi

Does this work for car lug nuts, and the rusty bolts on brake systems? Tight package is important. If not, any suggestions?

The 850 needs a powerstack battery to realize its compact light weight potential.

that's probably true. I was more interested in its performance.

1 inch LENGTH bits. You don't have to use a bit holder to use the smaller bits.

Seems to be the case with the 850.

Honestly wasn't too impressed with my 850. Sold it and kept the 887. But my main impact is the 840, the hidden gem in DeWalt impacts. Lower RPM and higher IPM combined with a better variable speed trigger make up for lacking the speed selector, overall a better all round package at a lower price.

It is better in a lot of ways, but no speed selector is a significant downside. Price and performance are significant upsides to the DCF840. They need to release a proper replacement for the now old 887 though, but seem to be staggering releases to maximize sales.

i think the 1 inch bit means the smaller 1 inch driver bits not just the extended 2 inch bits
