Been using my 850 every day two weeks from now and I have no regrets at all. 887 been on my tool box since a went to my local depot and bought the new atomic. I even test it against my 887 and it really performed really well beating the XR in almost every test. I’m a drywall framer
I’m a HVAC guy and i’ve used my 809 for about 3 years every day and i’ve dropped it a couple times once off a scissor lift from 30 feet and it still worked fine. All it does is take our 1/4 5/16 3/8 head screws.
I’m glad this looks like it turned out to be a solid choice. I kind of just stumbled upon the combo kit and didn’t have an impact driver at all and decided to pick it up.
I’m in the service business and use mine daily, I have a lot of dewalt tools and my nail guns are now cordless. I use to get the cheap atomic combos back in the day and when the xr came out I purchased it and it rocked so I’ve stuck with them ever since then, I will say I’ve had to replace my impact driver twice due to the power surge issues. The drill driver has been a beast and fine. I’m going to get a new atomic just because it looks cool and seems legit.
I do love the small size of the Dewalt 850 and the power, But I will sacrifice power etc to precision and that’s why I am a huge fan of the Makita XDT16 it’s also compact as-well. I just prefer it because of the different modes you can place that tool in with the touch pad to allow the tool to be more precise in delicate operations.
New 850 looks pretty good and performed well too. I'll be interested to see if they do a new XR compact impact driver. Either way I currently have enough drivers so no reason to rush out for a 850 even with the awesome size. #beltsandboxes
This was great. I have the 1st gen Atomic impact and drill. While the new one is a little better, it isn't quite enough to get me to upgrade (yet). The Atomic is still a huge upgrade from the Black and Decker stuff I had before. #beltsandboxes
I have the XR driver because the HD sales associate told me the Atomic was coming out for DIY weekenders and not for tradesmen. I don’t recall even checking the price difference.
I have the 887 and have been happy with it, but that small size looks something that I could get into. Hopefully the next gen brings more power. #beltsandboxes
At work I have a dewalt drill and 1/2”impact wrench. And a 5yr old Ryobi brushless impact driver. I was recently considering “upgrading” my driver to a dewalt. But shocked to discover every model of dewalt I can find has a lower torque rating then my 2000 in-lbs ryobi. 😮
Hi Dave, all of them did awesome for me, the 850 didn’t fail for me, you sent a boy to do a mans job and it did it, a little bit is not a big deal for me, it’s a awesome tool I give it excellent performance, just my opinion,
All good contenders..... would like to see you use 6 X 6 pressure tx wood and stack them if you have to just to give a more consistent wood density to show the differences without issues of what that log can cause. I'm not usually putting lags through logs haha. Thanks for the video. #beltsandboxes
I switched from the 887 and I didn't think the weight difference was going to be noticeable but to my surprise, it is. In performance is not a HUGE difference but there's a difference for sure, I do recommend the new atomic 850. I use it daily, BTW
I bought the Atomic for a home renovation. I’ve been hearing mixed reviews. I like it but I have nothing g to compare it with. Do you think o made the right purchase?
I also bought the atomic and I would have to say that it is worth every dime. It is very well built and has a lot of power especially when it comes to removing lug nuts. The only difference is in power, if you want even MORE power you can upgrade to the XR.
Strong work MCT. I’ve enjoyed watching you progress with your videos and livestreams. You’ve inspired me to create my own tool channel once I get out of college. Keep up the good work and be safe. #BeltsandBoxes
Are they trying to move the Atomic range from handyman / DIY to trade ? I’ve kept away from anything with Atomic on it for my trade tools so interesting to see the results here.
I believe they are. Atomic actually just means compact. It's their compact line of tools but I agree, I wouldn't buy anything atomic before. Things are changing in dewalt land.
@@b-2466 I see this also, new tools like the low-range DCF923 impact wrench now have the nice push button speed/lamp controls like its 2 bigger brothers but bears the atomic label. It no longer means a cut down version of the full XR tool anymore, but a full featured modern compact tool, for example the newer compact 1 3/4" bandsaw also has the atomic label yet its a full quality tradesmen tool for the conduit jockeys. Overall it makes the brand less confusing now knowing you aren't getting a 'cut down' version of the tool anymore just because it bears the atomic name like when the lineup was first introduced. Cheers.
How are you doing Dave ;?? Good video man I like the new inpact drill but I wounder if they are thinking of making a drill driver for the inpac the same way ?? I guess it's just a m18 stubby with black and yellow but who cares it's cool #belts and boxes
Flex is gonna win for sure between that and the hilti. I love to watch your vs videos but I can tell alot of times whose gonna win by their performance from previous videos
I'm going to just make a guess and say that the impact 887 is going to get an update with the new wrench body with press buttons. That will be the new XR impact.
The 850 might be DeWalt ‘s top of the line impact driver for now….. But we want a rematch! 887 vs 850 with same size ah batteries, vs a new contender the skinny dcf840 replacing the dcf787 much the same way the 850 replaced the 809. All with same battery as well! Will the 840 best the 850?? And for battle of the brushless DeWalt bargain bins. Who wins the dcf809 or the dcf787??
After years of faultless use of Makita battery tools I decided to try DeWalt XR It started when the drill in the kit had NO SECOND SPEED GEAR FITTED, after getting a new kit, my 18v drill put out lots of smoke when drilling a hole in steel with a drill my Makita drill would have had for breakfast. It was repaired under warranty but I haven't trusted it yet, after 3 months the impact driver bit retainer broke, it was replaced and lasted 4 months then broke. The angle grinder Still works but the detent on the tool lock spat the dummy (pacifier to merikans) I will NEVER BUY A DEWALT TOOL EVER AGAIN. PERIOD.

#beltsandboxes been waiting for this one, was wondering if this was a more modern 887. Also are you gonna test the new power stack battery, when it is available?
I was debating on switching to fuel because of their compact drills but they're so pricey... And I have so many yellows... After I found out DeWalt released 850 and in December 2021 releasing smaller, lighter & more run time 20v stack lithium batteries... I ain't going no where. #Beltsandboxes
Seeing the speed bore fall out the new atomic makes me wonder if the single ball bearing is having the same trouble as the milwaukee gen 3 with bit retention
#beltsandboxes looking forward to the Halloween Special…have a feeling Flex won’t be able to keep up with Hilti or other Fleet tools but interested to see. Also, at the end of every video is he saying “edutaining?”

It's amazing how small these new compact Drivers are getting. The size gets smaller but the performance remains the same.

Hi rob, this would be interesting the anvil from the dcf901 swop into the 850, very interesting lol,
Sticking with my 887 until it breaks but that small form factor sure is tempting. #beltsandboxes
Just got mine today it’s almost just a handle with a chuck. Lmao pretty zippy impact tho

Great giveaway! I bought an 887 combo 6 months ago. Thanks for helping me make up my mind on the purchase.
Great video and honest comparison. Will the Atomic be released everywhere around the world? I am in Australia. Thanks

so 850 is basically faster, but doesn't have the high end torque that the 887 or even earlier atomic 809 has?
I feel like you should do a separate video of the 850 and 887, and use 5ahs on both of them and see what happens. Great video also!!
