Watch George Benton highlights, when Pernell first came in he had a advanced amateur style not quite like Rigo and Loma because they actually have better footwork but it was similar but Pernell in his prime 88-94 had a mixture of his own style and George Benton. To me Rigo and Loma are good but their not great. Canelo and May are because their proven. Shakur, Devin Henry will see, the same with Teofimo and Terrence Crawford.

Roger and myself were in the military together in Fort Lee VA in 1982, with our bunks and lockers right next to one another, 40 years ago, and back then, he told me that he was a boxer. They didn't really fight the same way. Lol. Both are defensive specialists. That's about all they have in common as boxers. Whitaker was a lot more active on the offensive end and throws about 65 punches per round (most of which are jabs). He's also better w/ inside fighting. Defensively, he makes more use of his upper body and head movement than Floyd.
Offensively, Mayweather has more power than Pea, especially at the 130 lbs. and Lightweight division. He's a lot more economical w/ his punches, throwing around 35-40 per round. I find that he's more reliant on counter-punching than Pea. Defensively, he uses the Philly Shell/ shoulder-roll technique and uses distance and clinching to nullify his opponents' attack.
Also as someone already mentioned, Pea has a a long reach compared to most "5'6" boxers.

What a time to be alive as a fan of boxing. There used to be a "season" for boxing that occurred in the first quarter of the year. I would look at the T.V. guide weeks in advanced to see what fights were coming up on FREE T.V. (ABC, NBC, and CBS). Fights would build to super fights on HBO, Showtime, or Closed Circuit TV. I watched many fights at Cobo Hall and Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. I'm sorry to the young folk, the sport is not the same.

I always loved watching Roger fight. To me he was WAAAAY more exciting to watch than Floyd. Yes Floyd was better but basically boring compared to Roger who would go for the knockout and not just win. I saw him at Floyds last fight in Michigan and as he walked by I yelled "The Mexican Assassin! He stopped dead in his tracks and said "nobody has called me that in a long time". I told him" I have watched you for a long time." We shared a few more words, shook hands and off he went. A GREAT memory for me. R.I.P. Roger.

Two of my favorite fighters for completely different reasons. Pernell Whitaker Olympic champion one of the best boxers pound for pound Defense as much off fence as needed to win fights how are you true special fighter with one of the best management and training teams in boxing history. Roger Mayweather The black mamba came from the bottom worked hard for everything a true warrior very impressive power, would fight anyone anywhere he became a world champion and then one of the greatest trainers in boxing history training his nephew “little Floyd” Mayweather yes the undefeated boxing superstar for 20 years Floyd money Mayweather. Roger was really a friendly nice humble man when I ran into him at fights as fans he would give you his autograph and truly appreciated his fans good guy great sense of humor with a wealth of boxing knowledge focused on offense than defense, Floyd Senior was the defensive specialist two of the reasons along with an incredible work ethic natural skills Floyd Mayweather Jr. became a superstar. Never seen a boring Roger Mayweather fight. RIP to two very talented Champions and really nice guys.
