I remember when Roy lost, I was in the military, out at sea at 4 O'clock in the morning when I saw it. My homeboys woke me up to catch the fight because we were in different time zones over seas.. and when I saw Roy fall, I was so upset, I threw my bowl of cereal at the tv screen. I was sick after that man, Roy was like a superhero to me and that moment messed up the rest of my deployment.
They say don't meet your heroes... my picture on here is when Roy came to the uk for a sports dinner and he signed my canvas.. Him and his manager stayed after the event and spent hours with us, most humble and down to earth guy.. Always will be a fan.. thank you Rj ✌️
Man just got off a flight from Uganda to Dubai and I run across this interview. Watched it all now on a flight to LA. Two of my favorite fighters right here. Helluva watch!
@@louduva9849bro this is quite the opposite 😂😂😂. He has one of the best resumes and one of two to get four belts in the four highest weight classes. What are you talking about?
Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh, Holdin My Heart bruh... Roy sincerely said....... "I never let nothing get in the way of me, and what GOD had planned for me" And that man A-dub said... "He ain't want you to look/dress nice?" The silence between A-dub's comment and Roy's response was golden! Man, this was a joy to watch. A pure conversation with a boy and his idol/mentor/father figure. Dre is my best friend and I ain't never even met the brotha, he keeps me crying with his sly remarks and sense of humor. Thanks for doing this yall
GREAT INTERVIEW! I had to comment on this one! I grew up in the Bay Area and also was on the boxing scene around the time Dre was going to the Olympics. Roy Jones was my favorite fighter as well! RESPECT to you both.🫡
1:03 you heard what he said. “my lawyer asked me what do you wanna do? basically if you wanted to sue and he said no just get me back in the ring with him and that belt.” Unlike Devin Haney, but I don’t blame Devin. I’m just saying look at the mentality of Roy.
Loved this... huge fan of both Ward and Jones... RJJ the most talented fighter of all time - no one beats prime RJJ head 2 head... He fights like a fish swims.
2016 i managed a Motel in Lake city florida. A Hurricanes was headed for the Panhandle of Florida, I got many residents from Pensacola evacuating from the storm. I love Roy, so I would ask them, how about Roy, their eyes would widen and OMG, we love Roy Jones Jr. He has done so much for our neighborhood and community. Roy is one one of our all time greatest Boxing athletes and humanitarians, GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER ✌️
Always been a huge Roy fan , had the honor of spending some time with him before a fight and he was just the most down to earth and cool person man I tell you he really is the goat. Like you can see how he just treats ppl he’s such a good dude true legend
Appreciate this talk! My favourite fighter ever, he was a rockstar! Changed the game, highlights, sound track, doing everything fundamentally wrong but being so fast he could get away with it!! I wonder if RJJ would have been as great as he was, if his dad hadn’t put that pressure on him.. Even though it being toxic.. Did that anxiety it created, create an unstoppable beast? Love that chat!!
I admit Im a RJJ super fan. I was a kid when I first saw RJJ fight, and been hooked ever since. Until today Im in my 40s, and still get amped up when I see a RJJ interview or fight. I guess its because I can see my upbringing with my dad, and our craft.
I was at the Virgil Hill fight in Biloxi, Mississippi and it Literally sounded like a GUNSHOT inside of the arena. That's something I'll never forget 🥊
I have a few fighter's that are my favorite inside and outside the ring. RJJ and SOG are definitely on that list. Super dope interview!! Thanks for the content..
I’ve just started podcast and shout out to Dre. He is an amazing interviewer. And the reverence and admiration that he has for Roy is more than evident in this interview. So refreshing to see black men give each other their flowers in this way.
Man this was more than an interview God talked through Roy in this interview and as a person who understands that love you Roy💯…. This one hit different Dre keep doing your thing as well 💪🏾💯💯
I was blessed to meet and take a picture with RJJ and Sweet Pea at the USA’S in 95’.. One of the best highlights, not just in boxing but my life!! The GREAT RJJ
That’s what I’m talking about Dre! You made it right. That was a great interview. I really enjoyed all of it. Thanks for making it right and listening to your audience. Thanks from a real boxing fan. Thanks man.
@WilbertRamos777 last American male to win Gold. Ward was an outstanding boxer who didn't run and retire undefeated. He won super 6 tournament when nobody thought he would. Who else can say that ?
I boxed for 2 almost 3 years. Roy Jones and James Toney were my Study books every day... When they fought each other I was conflicted and excited.... I still have that fight recorded on VHS lol... Definitely a G.O.A.T...
One thing I love about Roy beyond his boxing is I don’t ever remember hearing about him buck dancing, 🦝ing, or bucking his eyes for folks. And he stays employed commentating or doing whatever. I love it. Never caught up in no real BS. 🫡 to the living legend.
That fight Roy Jones had with James tony I was out at Sunset Park playing basketball with him before the fight. I didn’t know who he was but once when I seen him on TV, I was like that’s was the dude I was balling with at sunset park and I was working at the MGM after the fight, I seen him the next day walking down the hallway Cool guy something I’ll never forget.
This is one of the greatest sports interviews ive ever watched. Two greats.

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING CONVERSATION!! Good to hear Jones put his whole career together in one interview. Just love Ward’s style of interviewing.

Favorite boxer of all time. What’s crazy is I became even more of a fan in this stage of his career/life.
Top 3 best boxer of all time at middle weight, super middle weight, and light heavy weight FOR SURE. And a great person outside the ring God bless Roy
Mobile, Alabama is where I rep. Roy has ALWAYS had love for Mobile
Right behind Hagler at middleweight imo 💯
Roy Jones jr💉💉💉
His resume is trash. Never beat a single soul at 175. At 160 only an inexperienced Hopkins; at 168 just a drained Toney. Poor. Too much ducking.
@@TonyMontana0052Do you think Marvin Hagler was better than Carlos Monzon who was undefeated in his era?
Roy Jones Jr definitely needs a biography a series a movie won't be enough.
Yea I wouldn't mind a 30 for 30
