@@cem5470 David is just on a different level mentally after what he's gone through in life. I'm sure you've heard he's got a book, and it talks a lot about it. That dude was abused to a really sad level and went through the ringer his entire life. He passed the physical screening portion of Delta's OTC, including the long walk, and if I'm not mistaken he obliterated the record on that long walk. He failed the psychological screening portion of it due to his sort of lone wolf mentality and his inability to jive with Delta's social dynamic. SOFREP has several articles on personal stories by some Unit operators and a few of them include some level of fraternal and racist banter (all in good fun) and they sort of revealed that (intentionally) during the screening. The lone wolf mentality definitely plagued him during his time with the teams too - just didn't click nor did he even want to. David is an absolute machine and unique specimen - a great example of what can be done with the power of the mind.

I give him much respect for the service that he did for his country in combat. But if the movie depicted him correctly and he refused to go with the rest and neutralize those three captives they had he caused the death of many Navy Seals. The three seals that were with him on the mission and the many that were in the Chinook helicopter that were hit with a RPG. In my opinion it showed he had no stomach to do what was needed
Read the AAR and the statements from the dude who saved him “ambushed by 6 people” there’s a taliban video of it. He literally left his squad mates to die. Guy is a straight coward.
What a lot of people don't realize is that while becoming a SEAL is extremely difficult, a big guy like Marcus (6' 5" 230 lbs) making it through BUDS is extraordinary.
Exactly. A lot of my buddies are buds duds (guys that got dropped from buds) and they’re all around 6ft. It makes all the workouts harder especially doing boat crew when the guy in the middle of the group is 5’7 5’8 and is barely touching the boat cause all the tall guys are carrying it
So true. From my experience, but from a potentially skewed memory because it's been several years, SF guys are pretty short in general. Not all, but a lot of them. I remembered when they (generally SEALs or Delta Force) would show up to the aircraft and being on the shorter side. I imagine having a lower center of gravity offers tremendous benefits being in that line of work. Some bad dudes though.
@@malachismith3475 at BUDS they put the boat crews together so the short guys go to a crew of short guys ...they don't have tall guys with a short guy in the same boat crew....they call the short guys "smurfs"......ive listened to many stories about the boat carrying at buds and I dont believe your story is correct.....

I got to hear him tell his story live at an event a few years back where he was the surprise guest speaker. It changed my life. He criticized himself the whole time and talked about how its not fair he’s here and they are gone. Check out lone survivor and his other book called service. This man stared the taliban in the face and told them to cut his head off “come on let’s go” were his exact words. He’s a legend and I hope people keep supporting him and don’t forget his story.
I was a firefighter in the Air Force and the ball breaking we did on each other was gruesome and frankly it was bullying. I can only imagine what he was afraid of.
I joined the marine corps infantry in 2006 with visons of fallujah in my head. I got put in 1/6 while the battalion was in Ramadi. The guys who came out of that deployment were some of the realest dudes I've ever met. Solid, across the board.

I was in Afghanistan in 2004 and it changes everything about who you are. That muscle memory never leaves you. I find that I’m hyperaware of everything around me. For me it wasn’t the firefights it was that build up to it and it stayed with me. I’ve been out since 2013 and I still do it. I read the book about a year after I got back. I survived Afghanistan and ended up getting hospitalized for a shoulder injury back home. So I was on light duty and I read this book and by the end of it I was openly crying about it while I was at work. It was the same thing when I read In the Company of Heroes by Mike Durant. That kind of thing changed my view on things like this. When I went and saw Lone Survivor I went during the day when there wouldn’t be a lot of people because I had being surrounded by idiots who’d rather be on their -Hines than watch the movie. I watched it and my wife could tell I was tense. She grabbed my hand and the rest of the movie played out and at the end when they’re showing all of the guys who didn’t make it I sobbed and this Vietnam Vet came up to me and put his arm around me and we stood there for a minute and then I went on. It’s weird how you change.
Litterally the amount of thrill he speaks with and moments of pause just shows how much he truly loved what he did, but also knows he doesn’t want anyone else to experience the things he has.
I could listen to Marcus Latrell to remind myself who I am & whom I’m made of… his quote, I’m not battle broken, I’m battle hardened hit me like punch to my chest & I loved it… snapped me back into what I’m doing & why I love the pain of training for boxing. Amen brother! Marcus Latrell I’d fight alongside you anytime, anyplace & anywhere.

Very profound interview. Kudos to Joe Rogan. I found the decision Marcus made to re-engage in the combat world to be likely therapeutic. He says "I had to". Whatever drove him to re-engage in Iraq I feel like probably saved his sanity and did not allow the horror he lived in Afghanistan to consume him. Seems like maybe the re-engagement in Iraq allowed the Afghanistan experience to become somewhat of an experience along a bit of a continuum as opposed to an event that destroyed his ability to cope - at least for him. God Bless Marcus Luttrell and the tribe of men he belongs to.
Damn, Marcus Luttrell seems so much happier than he used to be. Years ago he seemed borderline depressed, but now he just seems like he's happy to be alive.
@Rich Jenkins No, he has had a lot of therapy. I know that look he has. Just like my father when he returned from Vietnam, Marcus has PTSD and Survivers Guilt.

I am from India and I have huge respect for Navy seals. Every time I watch their video I learn something new. What I have learned the most is that it’s all about your mentality not your physical limitations. The conversation about getting hit with the first punch and then getting into “let’s do this” mode is so true - whether it’s a fight, a job interview or sports it applies everywhere. Training matters everywhere!
The Indian military doesn't have a version of the seals? If not it would be cool to see them start one and train with our seals. I know the other parts of the Indian military trains with us. Always good to see our allies training with us. Stay safe over there in India. Respect from America. I plan to visit India eventually

Real men won't try to think they are in the league of someone like Marcus Luttrell. You can still be a man without pretending you're in the same league with someone that is/was one of the top 0.00001% of war fighters in the world. Very few men can even endure BUDS, myself included. Even less can be successful at and survive the things he went through. Even less than that can come back from it, and then deploy again. Even less than that can come home and be a functioning member of society. It's a very small, elite group of men that can do all of this. Thankfully lately these men are getting the recognition they deserve, however none of us that haven't been through it will ever understand their mindset and how good they really are/were.
Brooo you need to hear the person who saved him as well "gulab" That guy says they weren't ambushed by 200 men but only 15-30 men ! After gulab spotted the lies in his book, this seal didn't even talk to him since !
The first firefight I got into the first thing I felt was relief. I feared it never was going to happen after all the training I've done. Was in bootcamp when 9/11 happened. First firefight happened in Jan 2012 in Helmond. One of the best days of my life and worst days at the same time.
I’m glad people can admit to this stuff. I’m in the enlistment process for infantry and i long to see combat. Not trying to sound like some super cool badass but I genuinely feel I’m built for it and have been mentally prepared my whole life for it. To be put in a position where I can flip that switch on rather than have to suppress it feels like it will be the best drug I’ll ever try. We’ll see though. Glad you got to put your training to use, appreciate your service🙏🏾
The guy that took the bullet from a distant firefight was carrying his trash to the dumpster. That was crazy. It literally could have been any one of us on the camp. Right after that they locked the whole place down and we all had to get into the TOC till they figured out it was from the firefight going on outside the wire. I remember hearing going on. That was a crazy day. Glad to know he's doing ok.
That does make sense depending on the mos. My company was in TQ in '06 doing route clearance and went to Ramadi a few times to clear there and back or do woodframe construction there. A lot of us turned down a $50k bonus to stay in the combat engineer field for another four years
It makes sense psychologically speaking - you get used to your environment and what happens inside of that environment. Also, believe it or not, some people love fighting other human beings. And killing them en masse as well.

What he said about training to become the strongest when you are run down reminds me of my childhood. We went through a lot of shit; abuse, poverty, humiliation, whatever. A couple of years ago my wife started crying because we were out of money, and I was like hey, I trained for this for 18 years. This is where it kicks in. We're okay.... And we were okay. Unlike Joe, I'm a man of faith, and I know that everything is always okay, even when people are dying around you. It's all gonna be okay; just do your best, and let go of the rest.
There are things we can control and things we can't, but we definitely cannot help ourselves or anyone as effectively when we're using part of our energy or all of it to worry about the things we can't control. I had a similar childhood I know what you're saying especially when you said let go of the rest.
The calm badass of Luttrell just taking a knee when he's getting shot at, not freaking out, just sort of contemplating "Man, it's been a while since I've been shot at, maybe I should reconsider something... nah" and then just going forward kills me

I guess ya'll know his brother was a Seal too. As teenagers they knew a retired navy seal and he helped train them as teens. Eanting to be a Seal is one thing, getting thru seal school quite another. Hats off to their family for their gift to our country! Nothing but love to all who wore the uniform!
A good friend of mine from High School died preventing an incident that almost took out a vehicle full of Navy Seals. Chief Petty Officer Jason Finan was the first casualty of the retaking of Mosul, Iraq on October 20th, 2016. After spotting an IED he pulled his truck to prevent Seal Team 3 from driving through it. He was one of those guys that disarms bombs. Anyway, it wasn't the one he saw that got him. That one turned out to be a decoy, the one that got him was hidden. I can't even imagine what these guys go through but I can tell you not being an emotional person must help because the feelings I felt, as a citizen, thousands of miles away when I first heard the news were completely unexpected. Reading about war, seeing it in the news and movies, none of it gets real until someone you know is killed over there. I found myself thinking about the sick pathetic piece of shit who built that IED, similar to that fire you get when someone effs with one of your friends or family but quite a bit more. I'm not an angry person, nor violent, yet I found myself day dreaming of pretty messed up shit happening to that guy.... And yet I am here, in the comfort of my home, thousands of miles away... While those guys are still out there, right now and these things are happening to their friends and family right before their eyes... I can't even begin to imagine what it's like, nor do I want to. And that is why I thank all of you who served for your service, even though you and I both know you don't do it for that. Thank you.

It makes all the workouts harder especially doing boat crew when the guy in the middle of the group is 5’7 5’8 and is barely touching the boat cause all the tall guys are carrying it
I can only imagine all of the challenges in BUD/s, but at 6'3, my limited experience as "the tall guy" during simple log PT was brutal.

It makes sense psychologically speaking - you get used to your environment and what happens inside of that environment. Also, believe it or not, some people love fighting other human beings. And killing them en masse as well.
The Devil you know....

I have a brother was a seal done 8 years came home it’s been 15 years this year since anyone has seen him he came home and went off the deep end 😢what’s back he was always my hero since I could remember
The lord always provides, and never gives more than we can handle.

There are things we can control and things we can't, but we definitely cannot help ourselves or anyone as effectively when we're using part of our energy or all of it to worry about the things we can't control. I had a similar childhood I know what you're saying especially when you said let go of the rest.
Amen.

Yeah anyone would be hardened after lying about running away from his brothers and letting them die.

He is a Coward and he left his men to die.! He admitted that..
Wow, just wow! I was supposed to train EOD out of high school. Long story short I finished basic and came home. My whole life turned upside down and I don’t think I’ve truly recovered still. This makes me want to really change my life! Thanks you you two real men! 🙏
I swear this guy is Ryan Reynolds with a wider face. Don’t mean that as an insult - but the inner part of his face reminds me so much of Ryan Reynolds.
It's those funny little eyes they both have that are very similar to me
.
Inner face?
To me he looks like a fusion of Bruce Campbell and Colm Meaney.
Thick Skull and a pitbull jaw. Hard to believe anyone could take this guy.
That wide eye look too lol.. youre right

His brother is a U.S. Representative now
A good friend of mine from High School died preventing an incident that almost took out a vehicle full of Navy Seals. Thank you.
So u wouldn't make ieds to blow up foreigners who invaded your home soil?

“I got my butt kicked” Is that what you call getting shot multiple times and breaking bones as you fall/fight your way down a mountain? Fucking legend
Yup,a fucking legend
No. A fucking coward. He ran away from that firefight and left his 3 shipmates to die on that mountain.
Do some research; the truth is slowly seeping out.
Marcus is dreading the day the Predator feed from RedWings gets released; trust me.
This guy is the bravest man I've ever seen God bless just a normal man doing incredible things.
Brave men don't run away from the fight, leaving their teammates to die.
"Because I don’t get battle-weakened, I get battle-hardened"
Amazing philosophy! The way he reverses and reframes what we fear and don't want to do is remarkable
“Pain is the matter of perspective of the person going through it”
So true!!
You can see the levels of anxiety rise by the look on his face and the sound of his voice. I don’t know how he does it, talking about this stuff like he does. It’s probably therapeutic to a certain extent but also very painful.
The amount of respect i have for these men I can't even measure.
I could listen to this man all day his story’s are great and he’s a true hero
Lone survivor probably one of my favorite movies
I’d like it a lot but the audio editing is absolutely awful when it comes to firearms and that always ruins it for me.

Meth and Crack are literally evil. I got no problem with anything else, not even heroin, but if you're on meth or crack, you should be preemptively jailed to protect the community.
