What is the ratio of horsepower needed per gallon per minute of hydraulic flow.

Here is your "Basic" formula: Hp = (q * P) / (1714 * Em)
q = flow (gpm)
P = pressure
Em= pump efficiency
Should also take elevation into consideration which could be around a 3% in engine reduction i.e. need more Hp at elevation.
