Robert Downey Dr. playing the role as Tony Stark is not only iconic, but it's also poetically fitting regarding Tony's struggle of alcoholism that reflected with RDJ's history of drug addiction, which both of them just dropped their habits and become successful later in life. Not only RDJ is born to play that role, but his character development made him destined for greatness.
What's odd or perhaps for the better is that Tony Stark's alcoholism is not covered in the Iron Man series.
Robert Downey Doctor
@@decosteruniverse did you not watch iron man 2
@@decosteruniversethey sort of play that a bit in Iron Man 2 but that's about it most of the time his character arc revolted around his PTSD after the event in first The Avengers movie
Robert Downey Doctor
There’s an alternate timeline where we lost RDJ as a young man. His turnaround in life is nothing short of amazing
In the alternate timeline, Clive Owen or Tom Cruise would have played the role of Iron Man.
Glad we don't live there. & idc who Iron Man is there. If they even have an MCU there. Or Marvel in general. 😮
@@rikkTVi dunno it probably would have been good. Different tho.
@@Bowiiihowdyhe wouldve been short
It's sad knowing that people like River Phoenix, Heath Ledger or Brittany Murphy could have had a life like he does, but they never got to.
It’s insane how you have artfully put together a video essay largely just with interview clips. No wonder Colin and Samir shouted you out in their recent video. Maybe I’ll finally enjoy this genre of videos again.
they did? well deserved.
Same with the other videos, especially the Adam Sandler one
as someone currently battling drugs after rehabilitating before... downey hit the nail on the head. quitting isn't the hard part. your fate lies in your decision to change or not. and honestly after hearing this... i think it's time for a change. thanks for telling downey's inspirational story dodford.
edit: i have reason to believe my history of tobacco use has caused some of the health issues i am currently battling. if you are smoking, i encourage you to stop. chalking it up to luck that i quit when i did before i could've had a more serious cardiovascular issue than i do now. death ain't worth another puff
amen, I'll drink to that 🍺
I hope you're doing better with the recovery. Wish for the best.

This channel doesn't feel like UA-cam anymore: more of an immersive experience. Not unlike going to the cinema.
Like every todays Documentary?
Films that been sponsored big times with big company that their dicks is big enough to shove in our mouth to stay quiet
That last part "what's hard is to decide" hits incredibly different when you realize RDJ made a commitment to himself (and also his significant other) to be better (become sober, be around more, not do drugs, etc.) and once that decision was made, he altered his life completely and opportunities came to him
It's a life lesson we all need to know that the hard part is just deciding. Once you've made a decision to do xyz, stick to it and reap what you've sewn.
Great edit and storytelling as always Dodford and epic ad integration too
Beautifully said! The hardest decision in my life was the one to love myself unconditionally.
Your documentaries are phenomenal. The clips from the past, interviews etc coupled with great usage of editing. Such a joy to learn about the struggles of people who perceived through life. We can all learn from each others struggles.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Dodford, you are THE storytelling genius!
dude really is killing it
He took the part as Tony Stark to heart, he is a super hero for tons of kids and for sure that responsibility weighs him firmly on making sure he doesn’t ever let them down.
One of the best videos about RDJ that I've seen, with some great clips & quotes.
What I'm still waiting & hoping for is someone to set aside all of the "Hollywood" of it and see him, from his childhood, as a person just struggling to deal with the situations he's been put in, just see him as another human being and not a character in another Hollywood story.
He's often portrayed as just another self indulgent rich Hollywood brat. In reality, he didn't grow up rich. He had a father who was obsessed with his work. RDJ has said that his dad only paid attention to him if they were filming or if his dad was doing drugs with him. In the "SR" doc, RDS says that the first time he cared about anyone but himself was when his 2nd wife became ill.
His dad set him on the path to destruction as a child with the wild lifestyle and the drugs.
Downey's first arrests came within weeks of his wife & son leaving him. His last arrest came on a Thanksgiving holiday after she refused to let him spend the holiday with them. He was trying to numb his pain with the drug use.
When you look beyond the sensational "Hollywood" story, you find someone very relatable and inspirational. I know that many people have, but many more would understand if they knew the heart of the man.
I knew he was destined for more greatness once I saw him in Tropic Thunder.
Word. It was Iron Man for me, but whatever. He pulled off blackface in Tropic Thunder perfectly lol
That wasn't Robert. That was a dude playing a dude, disguised as another dude. He would have killed in that roll though.
@@hawwdyhaw8024 yeah it was. He was the dude playing the dude who was playing the dude disguised as another dude.
@@notavail_able You the dude who don't know which dude he is
I can't even begin to imagine the amount of time and effort that went into this. Well done Dodford and Co. for creating another fantastic piece.
RDJ didn’t only change his own life, but the whole world. I cannot imagine the difference if Nicholas cage would be playing iron man. His character and entire being, shaped the culture and being of millions of people
Dude, this isn't youtube, this is a god damn professional documentary! This is such impressive work oh my god.
you’ve probably heard this before, but what’s really special about your content is that you don’t shove in a “here’s how you SHOULD feel about ___”. you present information and facts as they are, and you show the human being (along with some very awesome editing!) that’s really cool to me. it’s like, “here’s this wonderfully messy talented flawed human being! do with that what you will.” i enjoy it every time. ❤
I won't pretend to have gone through nearly the struggle that RDj has gone through, but this video came out a few days into my complete quitting of smoking, a habit that i picked up years ago until i was smoking a pack a day. I think this gave me the motivation to keep going.
One month down, let's keep rolling.
Four months, I'm back to almost as good as before I started.
I hope you're still not smoking! Keep it up!

One of the greatest actor of all time
I never knew how little i knew of Robert Downey Jr until i saw this film. Brilliant as always
Sobriety?
"Yano what it is?, It's Mandatory."
Really hit me right in the feels
It was so fitting when Robert became iron man because Tony suffered with addiction in the comics and RDJ stated he connected with that.
Most incredible ad read I’ve ever seen. I can’t even call it in ad read, it was an ad experience! Well done Dodford.
Hope he wins the Oscar for Oppenheimer, then his story will have come full circle
🙂
😄
The build up made that “I am iron man” hit so different 🪂👀
It blows my mind that you're not more popular on this platform. Where other UA-camrs are boring and hard to follow (some very popular ones), your storytelling is seamless. Keep up the great work
*“What’s hard is to decide.” Hits different when you lived through the same struggles & tribulations RDJ has.*
That was simply fantastic!
As always 😄
Comprehensive, so well paced, no unnecessary fluff. Just pure goodness.
I truly can't wait for the next one... Jim Carrey's story is an immense one. Best of luck to you
This video is the gold standard. So well made. RDJ, what a story ❤
Him on Archmair Expert with Dax and seeing two friends chat about it all was really eyes opening to the man. Respect.
It's honestly mind-blowing that this gem got like 30k+ views. Definitely worth millions.
Kirk Lazarus is so good at acting he still has people believing he’s a white man named Robert Downey Jr. 😂
RDJ is one of my favorite actors, and his comeback story is one of the best
This was a great video Dodford, keep up the good work. You should maybe make a video about Johnny Depp next.
I just went back and saw 3 videos youve mare in this format, and I really like how you commit to your storyline. It would've been really easy to use clips from the highlights of RDJ or Drew Barrymore's career once the arch has ended but that wouldn't fit the narrative and the result is brilliant ❤ also the ad clips are so well integrated I take so long realize they've begun
This was so fantastic, you tell the stories of these actors like they were never told before with a beautiful touch of editing, speaking of touch, next is Jim Carrey with the Truman Show wall touch?! 👀
Great story beautifully presented as usual 🙌🏼 loved the effort you put into the ad reads as well
Just imagine if Mel Gibson didn't give that second chance to RDJ, we will perhaps lost one of the greatest actor of our generation. Anyway, I really enjoy this documentary and the way you edit it. Learnt a lot from you as a man who is also trying to make video essays as well :)
It's INSANE that you literally cannot picture anyone else playing Iron Man BUT Robert.
This man is literally mine and so many others idol, 26 now, and can't believe how far RDJ came, you became many people hero's and proved he could be the best person he could. He deserves the success he has
Robert is phenomenal.
Continuing to put out films without him was the worst mistake Marvel ever could have made.
please dont stop making videos.... you literally have the best account on youtube, your work does not go unnoticed... each video should have millions of views
so talented
I've been struggling with self-doubt as an unemployed, broke 19 year old. I think I really needed to watch this video and I'm glad I did. Thank you.
Soooo refreshing the way you tell story! The visuals, the scripting! And that ending, damn!! 🏆💪 Lots to learn from you, great job
When editing, rythm and narration skills meet up, that gives us a masterpiece of a video. The more I watch your videos, the more baffeled i get. like someone said for a man in another video "you're breathtaking"
Robert Downey Jr deserves more respect
Great little documentary about RDJ, but putting that aside, the ad for Publish Press was maybe the best ad I've ever seen, on youtube or elsewhere. I watched it all the way through; I never watch ads all the way through. Impressive, keep up the good work!
Playing Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer was the capstone of the comeback. It was such a powerhouse performance, and he really deserved that Oscar, that wasn't just Hollywood jerking itself off. He showed he had it in comedy, action, drama, everything. If it had been anyone other than Cillian Murphy in the central role RDJ could have stolen the film from him.
If he hypothetically never does another film, it doesn't matter. He's done it.
Wow. This was put together so well. Excellent job.
This is By Far, One of the Best Documentaries on Robert Downey Jr I've Ever Watched. ♥️💐
Dodford said that the midroll ad would be amazing, and let’s just say IT WAS 🔥
Best midroll ad of all time. There wasn’t a moment that I wanted to skip it. The j cut at the end was actually very engaging as well. I read and retained the information of the ad while the story continued.
Excellent.
In my opinion, Tropic Thunder is RDJ's best and most important movie. Yes, he was great in Iron Man, but RDJ's role in Tropic Thunder had to be played in a very specific way, and if he messed up his character, then he could've ruined not only the entire movie, but his entire career. RDJ walked a fine line in that movie, but he did such an amazing job, and really proves his acting abilities to their fullest.
You know that is a good day when you were blessed with another Dodford video.
i LOVE the new dodford intro. i can't stop replaying it.
This video is amazing!! Great job Dodford ! Felt like I was watching a Netflix documentary the entire time ! Loveee it!
WOW pretty much one of your best videos yet. so well done and put together, loved the arrangement of the interviews.
Been looking forward to this one since your community post. And as expected, Dodford doesn't miss!
Knowing Tony's struggle with addiction in the comics, RDJ was a perfect fit.
Dodford, your work is impossibly underrated. Keep putting out whatever genuinely compels you to want to make it the best work you’ve ever done.
This was so beautiful, thank you. 🥹
The realest of deals. Thank you Dodford

these documentaries are my favorite UA-cam videos recently. They are professionally made. I am instantly hooked and excited for the next one, which rarely happens to me.
Robert is a real inspiration in both movies and real life ❤ hope life treats him well and everyone watching as well
This is so masterfully produced! Amazing video!
This is the hardest RDJ and you thought we wouldn’t notice. Keep going and you will make it big.
Honestly, hats off to marvel and the casting team for taking such a huge risk with casting him. It’s seems obvious looking back, but when the decision was made there would have been huge nerves not only about Downey, but the MCU idea as a whole was riding on the success of this movie. You can imagine the big money investor types saying no to casting him, so well done to whoever pushed hard to have him
Absolutely stunning video. Fantastic editing and storytelling.

Man! I saw your Keanu video and immediately fell into your trap of amazing culmination of interview clips and what not in such a marvelous way that inspires you so deeply. DAAAMMNNN! I was so invested already in the video. Of course its about RDJ, of course its a video made by you, then the redemption part comes in and I am enjoying it like watching a climax of a cinematic masterpiece. you really have shown you are a lot more... I'm running out of words to describe your work. Keep going man. that's all I have to say. This is the first time I've maxed the use of my vocabulary and it's still not enough to describe your work.
