So true. I don't know what your exact thoughts are, but personally the physical Marika always looked somewhat androgynous to me in the same way Miquella and Malenia do, especially in the DLC trailer. The statues and paintings tend to lean more feminine, but not nearly as much as some fan interpretations.
@@anonisnoone6125 I think through showing off Miquella and St. Trina, the devs hint to us what Radagon's true origins are. But at the same time, it doesn't answer any questions about Radagon or St. Trina. Is it something only Empyreans can do? Or is it rare even amongst Empyreans? Can other decedents of Marika do it too? Or are Marika and Miquella experiencing something different, yet similar?
Only Fromsoftware would be able to make a character only talked about and seen through statues one of the most compelling people in the entire game. I genuinely believe things are less cut and dry with Marika than it ever was with Gwyn. Between the dialogue with Melina that can seem contradictary and the reveals in the DLC about her past. Marika is such a fascinating character that deserves a case study.
that pose in the lands of shadows is the rune of death, or at least mimicks it, and is the same pose of the shamans, both their corpses and their new jar forms. also love that her new pose with her rune has her head being pushed down. her godhood has subjugated her. another detail, slightly not pertaining the video, is that we can hear part of the elden beast lietmotif in the stone coffin fissure. the harp notes, just as in the shaman village there more parts of the ost, as well as in the abyssal woods.
(Maybe not so) hot take: I don't think that the harp leitmotif belongs to the elden beast, rather to Marika herself. It plays when you fight the elden beast, sure, but it also plays when Melina, Marika's daughter, sacrifices herself. It plays when you enter the home village of Marika. And it plays in the coffin fissure, where St. Trina reveals that godhood is a prison, hinting indirectly at Marika's fate as well. It is also - musically speaking - complementary in some ways and opposite in other ways to the Radagon theme, which fits the idea of Radagon being Marika's other self.
I noticed that her statue in the shadow lands only has 1 loop in the fabric behind her, whereas every statue from the lands between makes what I can only assume is an infinity symbol. Makes me wonder if the former statues were made before she became marika 'the eternal'. What do you make of the significance of her poses pertaining to the runes? What does that indicate exactly?
@@patrickkinnear8625 there are some theories about Marika being the GEQ before ascending to godhood. Imo, the GEQ is the grandmother (or great mother in JP) Marika was praying to, and the shamans were associated with the Godskin, hence their malleable bodies. Marika was related to her, hence their runes being similar. also about the infinite symbol on marika statue, the sorcery you get from the deathbirds similar to the rings of light actually form a vertical infinite symbol identical to marika's before being shot. maybe even that was an old symbol of pre-erdtree society.

No, there is no model made specifically to look like her accurate depictions. But there is a mod that uses the Tarnished as base and has sliders set to look like the statues. My problem with that is it still looks wrong, as if it was made only considering the frontal perspective.
@@dagantheterribleyour only personality trait is how much you goon alone in your bedroom, you’ll never make something as good as the devs of the game in your life.

You mean "Lore Accurate Marika" mod? That isn't even a unique model, they just recreated her with the in-game sliders. I disagree that it's more accurate. The eyes look super weird especially.
@@VergilClapsSuccubiCheeks "no one cares" Literally every second or third comment on this video is about how gooner marika model is weird and kinda bad. It's not even a model _from_ a video game, someone specifically created it to insert _into_ a game with no tiddy jiggle physics.
@@VergilClapsSuccubiCheeks Lol I saw that "> implying that's a bad thing" comment. I typed up a response before it was deleted: I mean yeah. Marika's story is pretty serious and she herself is pretty complicated. Removing all her character for the sake of jiggle is pretty shallow. It's not immoral to be horny, but if you're going to strip all the important bits off a character, just create an OC. Because this model looks nothing like Marika: aside from arbitrary proportions of the body and face, her maturity was entirely lost. That's why it's also sad that this model became a reference for many other sfw artists. Their reference is a misrepresentation, sure, but more importantly it misses the point of her design.
The most complex character they've ever made. Even people who think they have worked out her whole story aren't sure if she was every justified or redeemable. Brilliant!
Still mad we didn't get a single word from her in the DLC, or any new visuals asside from the trailer (and nothing from the trailer conserning Marika was in the game, to the point people are still guessing what the golden threads she's taking from the fleshy thing are, or what the voice-over is talking about exactly).
I just wish we actually got her motives unambiguously, I think Fromsoft over did their "vague hide the story" shtick with ER. A fundamental question like that should have a definitive answer given to the player
@@cyberninjazero5659 Yeah, I do think ER suffers from their story-telling more than it benefits from it. The Radagon twist at the end for exemple compleatly falls on its face because we kinda don't know neither Marika nore Radagon even by the end of the game, so the face they are the same person just ends up feeling like "oh ok, whatever" instead of a massive story twist. I think many people by that point forgot who Radagon even was, he's introduced pretty late into the game for such a big character (Liurnia), who he actualy is and what he does/wants is super vague and he ends up being a minor background character for most of the game. I guess the idea was to get the player to think something is wrong because Radagon is never mentionned from the Shattering onward (because obviously he disapeared alongside Marika) but in practice you just think you've missed some items and lore and forget about the character thinking some item will clear things up later on, but then you're at the end of the game and the twist doesn't work. They should indeed have characterized her better, I don't care about the technicalities of how she became a god, but I would very much like to know why she became a god, and the best we got now is the theory that "horn people were mean to her village", which is a super lame reason for her to become a literal god serving a lovecraftion cosmic entity.
I feel like we gotta wait for people to get over themselves first… There’s no way this is a modelling mistake right? It looks like it was done on purpose but I don’t _think_ there’s anything in the game that looks like it
I'm interested in this as well. Those marks on her head are blatantly not hair, which is shown to hang loosely and isnt made of stone. I wonder if Radagons hair is removed, if he has the same mark. Initially, I thought it was a fingerprint.
@@majesticderp they blatantly are hair! it's not uncommon to have hair sculpted and painted in the head to have as a guide where you'd put the actual hair later on. But as usual, the community will read into anything even though, there's nothing there to read. Remember that you'll never see this in game, you literally have to rip it out of the game, delete crucial parts of the model (the hair) to even see it and then we're supposed to think it matters to the story? Why would the developers do this? They won't. It's just hair.
@@majesticderp if its a fingerprint could it potentially have something to do with empyreans? I’d like to see the backs of the other empyreans as well as Radagon

Absolute power and deep trauma corrupted what could've once been a peaceful woman into a twisted, paranoid, power hungry tyrant. Though, I love FromSoft's story crafting since nothing is ever quite so simple. Just like real life. You can feel sympathy for her plight as a slave to Greater Will and Elden Beast despite knowing the crimes she's committed being unforgivable, just as the crimes of the Hornsent to her people were so very old ago. I really REALLY hope FromSoft doesn't abandon the Elden Ring Universe since I think there's so many stories yet to be told, I'd love to see a prequel set in the eons before the present, perhaps at the time of the ancient dragons or in the lead up to the Age of Marika's order, where the Hornsent are in full power and perhaps we'd hear tell of a small rebellion started by a fierce and uncompromising Shaman woman.
Yeah, we make jokes about it by over sexualizing fictional female characters but this is so wrong. Coz of those pictures, kids view a tragic character as someone with big bo*bs and unnecessary sexualized. If the creators intended it that way, her statues would have looked like Gwynevere. This is not a meme-video.
Has there ever been an explanation as to why Empyreans (Marika/Radagon and Ranni) are made of stone? The Two Fingers that appear at the top of divine towers also appear to be made of wood and I've always wondered if there's any significance to that. Slightly unrelated, there are a lot of trees in the land of shadows that kinda look like Two Fingers that have been left to grow.
I would like to see Marika's real face (Not rotten). But unfortunately, it's nowhere to be found. You can barely see it in the announcement trailer. She is such a beautiful woman!
Elden Ring lore is so enourmous and explorable. it makes me think From could make dlcs for years approaching all the characters and events. i would love that

@@bruh7170It was and can still be annoying when people hypersexualize all over the place. Especially when the entire character design gets changed and nothing is preserved from the original. It's also annoying, because male characters don't tend to be changed to such an extent, while female character designs are often completely discarded in favor of jiggle physics. It feels personally dehumanizing that jiggle physics are so important to people. Marika's story is so tragic and somber, and some people's reaction is "but do her tiddies bounce tho?". It's just sad.
@@madeline6951 1. Male characters do get the same treatment. U think Goodrick, Radahn, NK, or any male character for that matter are rocking 20+ inch penises and have toned bodies 2. @bruh7170 the person above explains it perfectly and it could not have been stated any better. Dumb jokes about “haha there’s a butt on the screen” were always gonna happen and that’s fine. I had a laugh when I saw the thumbnail but atm the gooning has gotten in the way of actual conversation. I wanted to see people talk about 3:51 cuz this looks huge! But i get to the comments and only one person has mentioned it. The rest seem to have their priorities elsewhere… I’m sure the problem will sort itself out but its uncomfortable seeing so many people who can’t seem to control themselves around pretty women
Yeah, agreed... I think Messmer misses his mother, the kind Marika, not the Queen broken by godhood. Hence why the motherly statue remains safe, tucked away, protected by him, while the rest have their heads cut off. It's Messmer's statement of how he curses what his mother became.
I really hope one day, maybe in a future dlc (i hope one last dlc will come out) we will actualy see Marika (maybe as human, and by that I don't mean as mortal of course) as a ally and as first quest we have to save her from the erdtree, and then maybe do some quest for her to bring order and peace in the lands between.
It wouldn’t surprise me that Elden Ring is in fact the earliest point of the Dark Souls timeline, and that SOMETHING so ruinous happens here in this first era that it ends up with the entire universe becoming the cyclical hellhole we know and love.
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire FirmSoft has explicitly said that the games do not belong to the same world/timeline and have nothing to do with each other story wise. So they aren't connected at all, and I think that makes the story of both IPs more intriguing tbh
Controversial to what many believe I think that model at the end is rather accurate, at least in terms of the face alone to the paintings you find at the roundtable. The paintings give her a very round face and short nose. The statues give her a thinner face so it’s hard to say which is true. I don’t think her actual in-game fractured model is quite accurate either though. You have to take into account she’s practically a corpse and she looks rather sickly. Same with Radagon we actually get a very clear look of his face in the paintings. But the statues lowkey make him look a bit different.
I agree, the ‘realistic’ models that are based off of her 2000 year old stone corpse are way less accurate than people realize, especially compared to her portraits in the round table hold.
The statues in TLB are shaped like her on her rune arc, but the ones in the lands of shadow are more shaped like the Rune of Death. That lends credence to the theory that Marika was the gloamed eyed queen of the hornsent, and slew her god to claim their divinity. Perhaps the gods that were hunted were all Hornsent gods, stripped of their souls so they couldn't be reborn into Marika's age.
Sooooooo… why is she impaled? Anyone have any ideas? I doubt Messmer would have done it, even though he is “the Impaler” and it matches his general color scheme
I saw a theory that its the rune of death being returned to the elden ring. I can’t remember which loretuber it was but I liked that theory the most I feel like this is one of those things where we don’t have enough pieces to figure what really happened. Just something for us to chew on
If you start a circle of hate, be prepared to take the consequences of it circling back to you. Hornsent-> Shamans and Marika. Marika and Messmer-> Hornsent. Well, and then we proceed to the Lands between with even more going on.

I’m most interested in Godwyn… Hope they tackle his story or even better, make him an important boss in the sequel.
Queen Marika just reaffirms one of the oldest facts in this world: "Warcrimes are okay if you're hot"

that pose in the lands of shadows is the rune of death, or at least mimicks it, and is the same pose of the shamans, both their corpses and their new jar forms. also love that her new pose with her rune has her head being pushed down. her godhood has subjugated her. another detail, slightly not pertaining the video, is that we can hear part of the elden beast lietmotif in the stone coffin fissure. the harp notes, just as in the shaman village there more parts of the ost, as well as in the abyssal woods.
@@jaster554455 I like to think that's where the numen landed, eventually becoming the shamans

I believe it's because they believed the heart to be located on the left side of the body. At least, that's what Yu Gi Oh told me.
Can someone make a model that looks as much like the statues as possible? Instead of making Marika someone with a body that she doesn't have
Someone did!
She looks very pretty and similar to messmer, I saw it on twitter months ago i dont know the artist tho
No, there is no model made specifically to look like her accurate depictions. But there is a mod that uses the Tarnished as base and has sliders set to look like the statues. My problem with that is it still looks wrong, as if it was made only considering the frontal perspective.
"...instead of a body she dosen't have."

In looking at the final cutscene Marika, did you happen to notice if she had the mark on the jar innards foreheads? 4:03 you can see what might be a crack? Or it could be the same scar on the jar innards heads.
I would post this on the Elden Ring lore subbreddit tbh. it's really interesting.
lmao the model at the end made her into anime girl
You have the statues and other models to go on and they made their own rendition.
No offense but I don't think it was really that necessary to use....THAT model.
It was.
i feel like it would have been more fitting to use the "realistic marika mod" model instead of the nsfw version which is overly sexualized. that one had her facial features most closely matched to what she was actually going to look like.
You sound like those feminists who complain about attractive women in video games. No one cares.
I typed up a response before it was deleted:
I mean yeah.
@@madeline6951 *Point not made.* *Continues to enjoy the goon.*

@@cyberninjazero5659 I actually think her Motives are pretty on the face compared to other elden ring things

Marika/Radagon are a Living Jar of the Elden Ring. Their body looks like that at the end because they grafted even their Living Jar into their body.

All of the fanart has really warped the perceived image of Marika. In reality, she isn’t the voluptuous hottie artist portray her as. She seems to be small to average at best.
She's the least sexualized character in the souls game. Even her naked bosom seems sad and tragic.
But fanboys are just wild.
small to average? shes 2.88m tall... sure it wont look massive relative to her height but when those calcium cannons are face to face to an average man, those would be at double Ds or Gs at least - booby connoisseur

The Two Fingers that appear at the top of divine towers also appear to be made of wood and I've always wondered if there's any significance to that. Slightly unrelated, there are a lot of trees in the land of shadows that kinda look like Two Fingers that have been left to grow.

@@bruh7170It was and can still be annoying when people hypersexualize all over the place. Especially when the entire character design gets changed and nothing is preserved from the original.
1:32 the tree vines binding her shows her imprisonment. Godhood is a prison.
But even in shackles she remains a God.
Great Queen Marika, the eternal.
It kinda looks like she's impaled with destined death, right? It's very mysterious.
