Hey Jonathan! I've watched nearly all of your CX-30 videos. I began watching them while I was still considering vehicles from other makes and models. However, I decided to join the CX-30 club. I ordered one in January and purchased it outright four days ago. It's better than I expected! In fact, we tested it yesterday on Highway 101 in the Silicon Valley (from our home in Palo Alto to San Jose). I really loved the Adaptive Cruise Control -- which worked flawlessly despite the terrible Bay Area traffic and drivers! Then, my wife and I drove it up to the Lick Observatory atop Mt. Hamilton in San Jose (an elevation change of 4,209 feet). Despite the incline and hairpin turns, the vehicle performed magnificently! I didn't even need to use the Sport Mode or turn on the AWD. After parking at the observatory, several other visitors there commented to me just how much they liked the vehicle and its paint color (Platinum Quartz Metallic). Thanks for all of your videos! They really helped to sell me on the vehicle! Kudos!

Hi, where do you all get your Vehicles washed? I’m afraid to use a regular car wash on my mica blue CX30, I can’t wash it where I live, Any input would be helpful
I have a '21 CX30 Preferred and really like it. I had gone back and forth on the CX5 and this one and sometimes want a bit more space, but I love how nimble and responsive the CX30 is and comparing the 21's I liked the CX30 appearance better. Having said that, I previously drove Infiniti's for 9 years and had 300+ hp on each of my cars, so sometimes I miss that power and wish I'd at least gotten the turbo.
Test drove the CX-30 and CX-5 last month and chose the CX-30 Carbon Edition. The CX-5 was nice but I loved how nimble the CX-30 is and just appreciated the drive more. Also the CX-5 looks similar to most compact SUVs on the road, including the Hyundai I was giving up. I wasn't in love with the cladding at first but seeing it in person, especially on the CE trim, changed my mind. I like the rugged look and it gives the body a more distinct style. Also loving the interior, especially the red seats. Space isn't an issue for me so couldn't be happier with my choice.
I test drove a CX-30 before leasing my 2020 CX-5 (both non-turbo). The CX-30 is nice, but comparably equipped the CX-30 was on $40 per month less expense to lease than the CX-5. Also remember to consider how much cargo space you are going to need. Anything you can fit in a CX-30 will fit in a CX-5, but not necessarily the other way around.
I have the same 2022 CX30 Premium, it's the best car I've ever driven within this price range as well as category, though I must say that I'm no big fan of the tiny cargo and small gas tank, apart from that the CX30 is almost perfect for me!
2022 CX-30 I have had it since August. My favorite car yet. I have 2 girls 14 and 12. They fit comfortable and love it. On long trips there is less complaining than the old Odyssey. Looks great performs great. The awd performed admirably in the snow, very cofident. Only thing its missing in my opinion is side mirror defroster.
I’ve owned 2 Mazda 5s and an old 626, and I’ve driven the 6, the CX-5, and the CX-30. Thank heavens they all drive like a Mazda, which is to say they all turn on a dime, give you feedback about how you are situated on the road, and give you a great driving experience-even on long, multi-day trips. So when we bought a car last week, it was a Mazda. The model? …drumroll… a 2023 CX-5. Why? Because, I’ve reached that point where my knees no longer want to climb down into a car and crawl up out of it again later. So the CX-5 won. I loved driving both the CX-30 and the CX-5, but my knees had the deciding vote.
Yea, I think my knees/lower back will also have the deciding vote this Spring when I make my decision - the CX 5 is looking very nice for this 59 year old.
I´m from Germany and i´m driving an CX-30 Skyactive X Mazda with 186HP and Manual Transmission. I need 5.5L Super E5 gas on 100km or 63mls. It doesn´t need much Gas and it´s funny to drive it. I have enough Space cause i´m an Single. I had before an CX-5 Diesel with 175HP and also manual Transmission but it wasn´t so funny like the CX-30 is!!!!!! I love my CX-30 and can´t wait until it gets an Facelift next Year. I have at an new CX-30 now 6 Years of Warranty. That´s Great. Mazda is a good Manufactorer.
Ordered a Gray 2023 CX-30, will arrive in 1.5 weeks. The GF wanted Gray because the trim color around the wheels (black) matches the paint better. We don't understand why the border around the wheels is so huge on this car, unless it's an off road thing. Personally, I like blue, but that's 2 months out. When I say order, you're really reserving a vehicle that's in transit. The dealer had the window sticker info along with the VIN. I put down 1k and will pay the rest when the vehicle comes in.
I put a deposit down for a CX-30 GS Luxury package. That’s what they call it here in Canada. Hopefully it arrives in a few months. I really enjoyed the handling of the vehicle when I test drove it. Can’t wait!
@@JSS Thanks for the reply. I do have a question well 2 actually. How is the A/C? I've read it's not all that. Also since I'm here in the midwest, is the heat really good? I do know they are excellent in the snow, I've seen some videos. Thanks for your time.
Hey Johathan I like what you're doing, I bought my CX 30 2 Mo. ago because of your enthusiasm and because their great cars, I've owned 2 others in the past. Now to my question, I do deliveries in my CX as an independent contactor and have so far put on 10,000 miles as of today and cars not quite 3 mos. old, I was looking for tire replacement with different suppliers online and the selection is very limited, I read somewhere on the tube about someone recommending a certain Continental model, do you know the specific model or do you have any replacement suggestions? Thanks so much for your expertise!
As the owner of a CX3, CE CX9, previous owner of a CE CX5, along with my son who has a CX30, I’d have to disagree with your assessment. The CX30 is barely bigger than my CX3. When you really compare the space (physically) between the cx30 and cx5, it becomes really obvious how comfortable the cx5 is when fully loaded with people and cargo compared to the cx30. I don’t think it’s a replacement for the cx5 but I do believe the cx5 will go away considering there’s a CX50.
Hi Johnathan awesome video I have the CX-30 Aston’s Premium 2.5 litre on order will get it in February 23 i am in Australia cannot wait care been in order since September 22 but originally I had the 2 litre on order and that was getting here in July 23 and to be honest there is not much difference in fuel.
@@trentirvin2008 Did you have a chance to test drive or sit in the CX-30? I'm 6' 3" and have been researching options and the two CX models are on my list.
If I were single this vehicle would be a great size. However, I am married and we are both senior citizens with stiff joints. I would definitely need a larger vehicle. I love the CX-50, but a little larger yet would be preferable.
I bought a car with ventilated seats (2021 Subaru Legacy). I got the top trim level just to get them, but in all honesty I almost never use them. The perforated leather breathes well enough to stay comfortable even in the hot summer climate of California's Central Valley (every day in the summer its high 90s to mid 100s).
Hope you're still checking comments on this video. I don't really want to go to a dealer if it isn't necessary. I'm 6' 3" 215 lbs. About equal torso and legs. I know everyone fits a car differently, but is the CX-30 large enough for someone my size (in general)? I'm a solo driver the vast majority of the time so the driver seat can be back as far as necessary. Also, I currently have a Subaru Legacy sedan and was hoping to get a SUV/crossover that might be a little easier to hop into vs. a lower to the ground sedan. Does the CX-30 sit up typically higher like most other smaller SUVs? One last thing, are there any rattles or squeaks in that 2020's interior?
just got a 23 machine grey preferred cx-30 and am liking it so far, I just wish they didn't discontinue the 6 because I much rather would have wanted that if it got a new generation.
I wonder if the CX-30 has different OEM tires than the CX-5. This can obviously make a huge difference in ride quality. The Bridgestones that originally came on my Mazda3 were quite loud. I replaced with Michelins after they wore out. Much quieter ride.
The CX 30 turbo premium is a blast. The interior is just as nice as our CX 5 premium, plus the heads up display is nice. Heated steering wheel and seats are great. I seen a Corolla cross interior it looked like dated technology and cheap. You can't go wrong with any of the Mazda line up. if you can afford the premium package, do it. Our previous cars were all Toyota's they were very reliable, just boring and not as nice interior compared to the Mazdas.
I sat in a CX-30 a few days ago and as someone 5'6" tall I found the seating position ridiculously low even with the driver seat at maximum height. The visibility over the hood was so absurdly poor I didnt even bother taking it out for a test ride. Seems to me you'd have to be 6' tall at a minumum to have any decent view of the road in front of the car.
I liked the cx30 turbo I drove but it was just too small for me. I was definitely cramped but I’m 6’2”. I love my 21 carbon turbo. It’s perfect. I can fit my 9’ one piece fishing rods inside and my bikes fit in the hatch without taking the wheel off.
I'm also 6'2" and I'm not at all cramped in the 30. I came from a Mazda 3 so I was used to the slightly smaller space. I can put bikes in the back with or without the front wheel off but I prefer the wheel off. If I'm in a hurry, the wheel stays on. My road bikes go up to a 62cm (24") so any bike will fit. I can put a 7' fishing rod in the 30. 9 feet. Wow. Another advantage of the 30 is putting a kayak on the roof. The 30 is shorter and that little bit of height makes a difference if we have to mount the yak by ourselves. I almost bought the CX-5 carbon just because I liked the red leather so much. Can't go wrong either way if the smaller space works.

Question, I have hip arthritis, so I need a little height to get in the driver's seat comfortably. The CX 5 is high enough, is the CX 30 lower than the CX 5?
Very slightly. It’s a little easier for ingress and egress with a CX-5. I carry my grandmother to doctor appointments in my new CX-5- she has sciatica really bad too and it’s easier for her. She doesn’t complain or moan in the CX-5 if we load her in slow. She is 85. It was rough when we took my wife’s CX-30.
@@ajackson-ross7295 no, we've not had any problems with that. We bought aftermarket black lugs and those get hacked up a little when changing tires but, I bought cheap ones.
I doubt Mazda will kill off their best seller. If anything, they need to heavily refresh or redesign the Cx5, maintaining similar dimensions, and call it the Cx40
Jonathan I call like the Toyota place and they stated, they do not work on Mazda. SO, can I take to a different mechanic place. Only have 695 miles on 2022 Mazda 3 hatchback. So should I wait until I reach 1000 miles for service?? Please Help!!
Why are you wanting to take it to a mechanic already? Is something wrong? I always get my first oil change at 1000 which is long before it’s recommended. That gets the metal shavings out of the engine and the car engine lasts longer.
I've actually heard the opposite side of this debate...new engines have special oil with additives designed for break-in that should remain in the engine until the first scheduled oil change. Changing the oil early, as I have heard, will diminish the protective benefits of the original oil. I am not an expert, so I would love to hear your opinion if you are.
@@chrisdahlquist8831 hey Chris. I’m 28, and I’ve heard both sides of this debate also. While I’ve been told something similar, I talked to my grandfathers on both sides, and he maintains that for many decades he changed oil at 1000 because of metal flakes. It was nothing to do with break period even though that was the next part of the talk. Everyone I’ve ever talked to agrees with the break in period. But after talking to Mazda dealers, mechanics and machinists. I knew it wouldn’t hurt my Mazdas and any previous makes to change oil at 1000 and extended engine life. Is it required? No. It’s kind of the old way of doing things and I bought into it. Nobody told me that the manufacturer endorsed any additives. They told me the opposite. And that additives are just something that is marketed and people buy it but that there was little value but that the additives didn’t really hurt. But that the manufacturers don’t add them. Who knows? Mazda dealers in Oklahoma told me that and I moved to Texas and they stated the same. And referred me to the manual and gave me a number to the higher ups at Mazda. They weren’t too surprised when I brought my new Mazdas in and said that people still do it and that manufacturers don’t want to raise concerns by stating in the manual that tiny metal shavings are normal in a newly built engine and appear in the first oil drain. Some seemed impressed that I cared to go to the trouble to bring it in. But the service department’s said yea you can’t go wrong at all doing this. I said thank you! I agree. And so that’s just my choice. None have told me they don’t recommend changing oil during the break-in period for any reason. If I’m ever told that, I’ll ask questions and dig deeper and see why they believe that. Or if it’s a sales pitch. They would make more money on oil changes if more people would take their cars in at 1000 miles instead of waiting the ever long intervals we see from Ford, VW, Hyundai, Mazda and the others. It’s one of those things that some people don’t care about and it’s just that I find $35k-$55k investment in a vehicle is worth my extra attention and I do what I can to keep it going strong for me and the next person I sell it to. I don’t keep them more than 2 years. I still take the trouble for it.
It is a very nice car.......the one negative side to this car is the difficilty of getting in and out of the car. What is your solution Jonothon Newell???
I lease one and I’m not happy. Squeaking noises after 6 months in different areas. I won’t get another Mazda if the cx30 is considered to be one of their top models
I sell Mazda and have owned 6. I never had squeaking noises. Please take it in to dealer. This is not normal. These have been rated better than Lexus for fewer problems over the last several years. Something didn’t get snapped on all the way inside with the plastic piece. It’s minor I promise. Mazda really is great and I wouldn’t sell them and drive them. My whole family drives Mazda. Keep me posted. I will help you get this taken care of.
@@JSS Hard to put a finger on it but it feels so smooth on the lower end that if you closed your eyes you can’t even feel you’re driving but on the high end it just gives up, doesn’t keep pulling.
We have the 2021 Turbo Premium for about 1 year. We love pretty much everything about it except one thing which is absolutely horrible. Had we known this, it would likely have changed our minds on selecting a cx-30. This is a daily driver for my wife ~20 miles each way. No kids now so size is perfectly fine. With kids and carting around their gear, it would be cramped. The infotainment system is ridiculous! It starts with an incredibly bad decision to replace the touch screen with standard view only screen. Integration with phone is horrible and FAR MORE complicated than needs to be. General navigation through infotainment console with click - rotate - push - rotate - push - rotate to get somewhere is incomprehensible. Who did the user testing and approved this? Literally every usability factor is below sub par. It's so bad that I've tried investigating replacement of the whole system. Did I mention that it's absolutely horrible?
CX-5 all the way. Much more refined, more functional space, more comfortable. CX-30 has zero adult space in the rear seats, and I hated the high door sills and minimal glass all around, limiting visibility.
My 2022 CX-30 CE has a quieter cabin than anything else I have driven in this size/price segment, & after 13 months of driving thus far, still not an annoying cabin rattle/vibration to be found yet (unlike my pretty loud & rattle-prone 2020 Corolla SE sedan which I ditched after 2 years due to various other problems).
Have you watched any other car reviews? They may rattle off facts, but the bulk of the videos are about their driving impressions and those are always subjective.
Have to totally disagree with you. When i was shopping around and went into Mazda dealer it was between that and a 2021 cx-5 carbon edition. What killed it for me was all that plastic around the wheel wells. It makes the car look cheap. Granted you can get it in black or that dark grey to kind of blend it in. The cx-5 on the other hand has that plastic around the wheel wells but not as thick. If mazda got rid of that thick plastic it would look alot better.

I have the same 2022 CX30 Premium, it's the best car I've ever driven within this price range as well as category, though I must say that I'm no big fan of the tiny cargo and small gas tank, apart from that the CX30 is almost perfect for me!
amazing car. I love my deep crystal blue select. city friendly due to her size, butter smooth driving.
Yes!
I have to say it’s the best drive I have had for years and it’s all round safety is excellent.
The model? …drumroll…
a 2023 CX-5.
Hmmm I had a 2018 CX5 then a 2020 CX30 and just got a 2023 CX5. I love them and the CX30 is super great, I am happy to have a CX5 again
Congratulations! The Blue is great, but you can’t go wrong with Machine Gray. I guess I’ve gotten use to the wider cladding…wait nm I haven’t 🤣
Just took delivery on my 2023 CX 30 Premium Turbo. My favorites are the seats and the TURBO engine. Very fast!
I put a deposit down for a CX-30 GS Luxury package. That’s what they call it here in Canada. Hopefully it arrives in a few months. I really enjoyed the handling of the vehicle when I test drove it. Can’t wait!
I had much better welcome at Mazda dealership than at Toyota dealership😂
I'm patiently waiting for the 2023 cx30's to come out. Sure hope it's soon. I'll probably go with the select version.
They have been allocated. Check your local dealer.
I’m looking at the cx 30 preferred but I worry about the backup camera? It seems so small
I had a rental CX-30 for 5 days when I was traveling. Didn’t like it as much as my 21’ CX-5.
Im 6’4” so I didn’t even entertain the cx-30,,just bought a cx5 gt 2021
Yup way too small
Hi Johnathan awesome video I have the CX-30 Aston’s Premium 2.5 litre on order will get it in February 23 i am in Australia cannot wait care been in order since September 22 but originally I had the 2 litre on order and that was getting here in July 23 and to be honest there is not much difference in fuel.
@@trentirvin2008 Did you have a chance to test drive or sit in the CX-30? I'm 6' 3" and have been researching options and the two CX models are on my list.
@@jeffmorse645 sat in it and it was quite cramped for me
If I were single this vehicle would be a great size. However, I am married and we are both senior citizens with stiff joints. I would definitely need a larger vehicle. I love the CX-50, but a little larger yet would be preferable.
No ventilated seats and well…there’s the overwrought cladding. Two things that made the 5 my only choice.
I'm looking at this to replace my 2017 Civic EX-T. I wish this Mazda had touchscreen and low profile headrests in the back for better visability.
The 30 has the same cargo space as the 3, so it's really a choice between those two if you don't care about space.
If that's supposed to replace the Cx-5 so glad I bought my 2022 CX-5. I can't get passed all that cladding and the CX-5 is fast enough for me
just got a 23 machine grey preferred cx-30 and am liking it so far, I just wish they didn't discontinue the 6 because I much rather would have wanted that if it got a new generation.
I wonder if the CX-30 has different OEM tires than the CX-5. This can obviously make a huge difference in ride quality. The Bridgestones that originally came on my Mazda3 were quite loud. I replaced with Michelins after they wore out. Much quieter ride.
My CX30 has Bridgestone and the CX5 has Toyo.
My CX30 has Bridgestone and the CX5 has Toyo.
I want room for the Elephant. Im trying to wait for a CX-90 but I don't know if I can make it?
I sat in a CX-30 a few days ago and as someone 5'6" tall I found the seating position ridiculously low even with the driver seat at maximum height. The visibility over the hood was so absurdly poor I didnt even bother taking it out for a test ride. Seems to me you'd have to be 6' tall at a minumum to have any decent view of the road in front of the car.
I feel like it drives like a car. It is fun and I feel safe and "spoiled" in it. My favorite Mazda I have owned so far, minus the Mazdaspeed 3 !
CX30 questions?
1. I cannot turn off the 12 beeps that SOMETHINGS happen when locking. I cannot find anyone who can stop this completely?
2. When parked in my garage, l do not lock vehicle but often on my turn it has locked. (I have turned off walk away auto lock)
3. When radio is on screen , in the bottom r/h corner l have 3 symbols.. speech bubble with "1", a battery symbol with horizontal lines then a volume indicator to its right
What is this telling me?
Regards GRAHAM
My thoughts too.
The CX30 is a better drive than the CX5.
If space is more important, why stop at the CX5?
Go the whole hog and get the new Honda CRV.
Good video
Hi,,road noise and tire noise compared to the cx5??..would like to see a test in DB..thanks.
Even at a just 6ft tall I felt claustrophobic in the cx30
Can anyone comment How is the visibility on the CX-30? What about small gas tank? Thanks
Visibility hasn’t been a problem for me, but do have to double check when backing up
I watched your video halfway through and all you did was complain about the lack of room in the back seat, so I commented and departed.
Does this car come in manual shift?
Is the ground clearance the same as the CX-5??
It’s a little more: 8”…lowest CX-5 is 7.3”, highest 7.9”
Whats your top 3 favourite colour for Cx-30?
Replace the CX-5? Not unless they get rid of all that black plastic crap off the car. The Kona had the same problem until Hyundai smartened up.
I love the interior of that car and it looks nice but I prefer less plastic cladding on the side
I saw one car reviewer and he owns a CX-30. He said he got a black one just to better hide the cladding.

Do they chip and scratch easily
@@ajackson-ross7295 no, we've not had any problems with that. We bought aftermarket black lugs and those get hacked up a little when changing tires but, I bought cheap ones.
I doubt Mazda will kill off their best seller. If anything, they need to heavily refresh or redesign the Cx5, maintaining similar dimensions, and call it the Cx40

I call like the Toyota place and they stated, they do not work on Mazda.
The CX 30 cost more to insure than the CX5, thus I chose the CX5
Same here, I couldn’t believe it.
@@WeaselsRippedMyFlesh Why you are talking to yourself?

Mazda needs to work on the exterior design of the CX30
That's the last thing Mazda needs to work on.
Agree, all CX CUV's have different design now, even CX 5 after latest facelift looks better !

My 2022 CX-30 CE has a quieter cabin than anything else I have driven in this size/price segment, & after 13 months of driving thus far, still not an annoying cabin rattle/vibration to be found yet (unlike my pretty loud & rattle-prone 2020 Corolla SE sedan which I ditched after 2 years due to various other problems).
With a few exceptions, most of your comments are opinions, not facts. As such, you should state that up front.
