We just purchased a CX-5. We did not purchase a Toyota or Honda for these reasons:
1: CX-5 is built in Japan
2: CX-5 had the highest crash ratings
3: CX-5 does not have a CVT
4: CX-5 has a better interior
5: CX-5 comes with AWD standard
I have the 2020 CX-5 Signature and love it. It is a great car!
6: CX-5 stylish and better design
Not having a CVT is enough reason alone to pursue the CX-5.
That's a big reason why people aren't buying.
No CVT, and Standard AWD means crappy MPGs compared to Honda, Toyota

@@thadlm2698 Hybrid e-CVT from Toyota is very different from gas CVT. The entire working principle is different and there's no mesh like regular CVT. Saying that's a CVT is misguided.
People would be foolish to not check out Mazdas lineup, before making a decision on a new car. Well built with high quality and reliability that rivals Toyota.

That may be true. I think people will rely on Toyota for its reputation and hybrid models it offers. Mazda on other hand still may have their name associated with Ford and no hybrid options as of yet.
Mazdas are so underrated, had a 2015 Mazda 3 for 5 years with Zero issues, I regret ever trading it in. Fun to drive and very reliable. Planning to get one in the next 2years. In my humble opinion I think having a no touch screen is a great idea as it's letting drivers focus more on driving as opposed to being distracted playing around with a touch screen which can be very dangerous while driving. But that's just my take on it.
I agree on the touchscreen. I especially hate trying to figure it out in a rental. Turning on the windshield wipers instead of the lights is the worst thing that can happen with analog controls! 😁
I hate reaching and waiting for screens to load. Love how everything is right at my finger tips with my cx30

I agree 100% on the touch screen. They're unnecessary. The light they emit is distracting; they're not necessarily safe to use when in motion; and, they're ugly.
You can change a setting that doesn't turn off touch screen. I did in our CX-50. You can employ touch screen while the car is moving.
I absolutely LOVE Mazda. Almost my entire family now drives a Mazda model. My 2015 Mazda 6 still drives like new with 108,000 miles on it. Zero issues. All I’ve done are tires, breaks and oil changes. She’s still gorgeous! Hands down the best car manufacturer. Can’t beat the reliability! ❤
I agree 100% I’m on my 3rd mazda 6. I also had a 2015 no issues whatsoever. Unfortunately the car was totaled but now I have a 2021. I’m really sad they discontinued the 6 and now the 3, only offered in hatchback for 2024. They’re so reliable and underrated! I’d much rather have my 6 vs an Accord or Camry which are a dime a dozen on the road

They're great vehicles. We've owned a 2016 CX-5 that's been reliable, cheap to maintain and a great car. The newer ones have a lot less road noise then ours, but overall ours as been a great daily driver.
My coworker went from a Altima to a 2014 CX-5 and she really regrets it. She wants Rouge.

@LifeisButADream It's very slow to her. It does have a significantly weaker engine than a Altima she had the weights aren't really that different. I know she also hates the tiny fuel tank and the weird fuel gage
Her Altima was totaled in the parking lot so she had a short time frame on when get a car.
She is always talking about her old Pontiacs and that Altima.
I think it's cause she lost her car in a very negative way. I have had that happened and know others. When you are forced to go from something you like to what ever is available it can be hard to get attached. She says she has never had so much trouble liking a car in her whole life than this CX5. It's not bad. But she says she will never buy a Mazda again cause nothing about it is impressive.
@@baronvonjo1929 the 2014 had a weaker engine. This was upgraded in 2015 which I bought. Paid $23,000 for the mid tier one and it still runs great and looks nice. I wont sell it due to to cars being more expensive these days and the CX-5 is still reliable. I crossed the USA 3 times with that car. I drove a 2022 CX-5 and the feeling felt the same as mine. I'll upgrade to a TESLA when this car finally gives me problems but I change my transmission and engine fluids regularly so I doubt I fails

I’m still driving my 2005 Mazda 3 and I couldn’t be happier. It’s probably the best car I’ve ever owned. Aside from battery and tire changes, the only other replacement has been a sensor. Best investment I ever made.
I used to own the same car. It was a great car, but after 8 years the body started rusting.
I had a Mazda 2002
Just like you said besides oil changes and tire changes the engine literally had nothing wrong with it and I was in my 20s so all the stuff I did to that poor engine and it still started up and took me from.point a to point b
Never gave up on me
For that reason and a couple others I'll never buy another car that isn't Mazda
I bought a 2005 Mazda 3 I , at 139k miles, Manual..
Drove it all over between Fl to up north by Indiana road trip.. very comfortable to nap ..
It now has 147.5 miles.
Great car..
I get 398 miles / on Hwy / on a full tank with my gas saver thing ..

I am still driving my 2010 madza3 iTouring (manual). I bought it as a previously leased car in 2013 with 12k on it. It currently has 124k.
I think I’ve caused some of the required repairs (like the clutch): clutch replaced twice (maybe 3 times?), AC (not just the freon), a few new batteries (one still under warranty), new brakes, new ball bearing something in the front suspension, a couple of sensors, I get regular oil changes and had a tune up done at 96k.
I totally feel like I’ve gotten my money’s worth on this car over the last 10 years. Except for a few scratches the paint job has held up (I hand wax twice a year).
Having a good mechanic has proved to be very good for my Mazda

I'm on my second Mazda now and feel I've found a manufacturing company I can stick with. Awesome reliability, performance, fair pricing. If you have those 3 in a car you'll do pretty good. I have a CX30 now and want to go turbo next time.

Same here, on second vehicle which is a CX-9 Carbon Edition, which is an absolute beauty, and just love it, love it, love it. Best car I’ve ever owned.

Once Mazda got Ford off their back around 2008-2009, they have done nothing but steadily improve, refine & re-invent themselves to the point where they have become a top-notch Japanese brand (despite their small company size & market share versus Toyota, Honda, etc.). In that same span of time, I feel that both Honda & Toyota have slipped in build quality to some degree. After a problematic 2020 model year Toyota experience, I bought my first Mazda a little over a year ago (2022 CX-30 CE AWD 6-AT) after much reading, research & comparison. It has been a flawless ownership experience thus far, & no regrets. Easily the best small crossover in its size/price segment (IMO), despite Mazda being one of the smallest automakers in the world. Also, Mazda & Toyota have been in a partnership together for some years now, so hopefully they can both learn new things from each-other & apply those improvements & options to both their respective future lineups.
one thing is every Mazda looks the same. Their entire lineup looks like all close variants of small SUVs. They occupy a very small niche, kind of like Subaru. Mazda does deserve more success than, for example, Nissan.
But every one of their offerings looks the same, there is zero differentiation, they have huge model overlap problems.
@@someotherdude I do agree that Mazda has homogenized the general "Kodo" styling language of their vehicles a bit too much across their various model lines, so basically no real diversity in aesthetics. I do love though that they use a slick, elegant, classic-sporty exhaust system across their entire lineup. Flattened, hidden muffler design, dual R/L exhaust outlets & simple, sexy round exhaust tips on each. That's great attention to detail that most automakers just completely ignore/neglect with their afterthought, ugly/gaudy exhaust setups. Mazda also employ a modernized-design regular 6-speed automatic across their product line instead of dubious belt/chain design CVT's. A well-known Toyota mechanic with a large UA-cam channel has called that SkyActiv 6-AT transmission design "brilliant" & a role-model for transmission design. Other automakers should take some serious lessons from Mazda is several of these categories. But, Mazda could also still learn a few things from other automakers as well.

My wife (girlfriend back then) had a Mazda Protege and at the time we didn't know it was part Ford. Less than a year of ownership the transmission had to be replaced under warranty and it had some other issues though minor. My daily driver is a 2015 Mazda 3 hatchback with a manual transmission and with 185K miles so far it's been flawless and it was made in Japan.
I agree that they need to advertise more. A movie featuring the Mazda would definitely help them out.

They aren’t selling because of the crazy mark ups. I’m trying to get a 2023 CX5 Premium and the two dealerships I went to wanted 40-43k for them. Even though MSRP was 33-35k…if dealers want to sell cars they need to stop with the mark ups.
It was my experience that Madza dealers don't want to make deals. Asked for a test drive and the salesman seemed so pained to do so, it was such an inconvenience for him.
You can get around 3% off MSRP here in socal. Just don't rush, keep shopping around.

Where are you located? Mazdas are selling at or slightly under MSRP in the US. My local dealership is selling at MSRP and open to negotiations. Toyota and Honda are the ones with crazy markups.
@@edwink1467 I’m located in Houston. I went to a third location but they wanted MSRP only for the base model. I want the Premium Plus, but they won’t sell it to me for MSRP. They told me “if I can’t afford it don’t buy a car now”… ☹️
I’ve bought only Mazdas since the early ‘90s. Just one of them had a mechanical issue, and it was fixed on warranty. Amazingly solid cars with good looks and lots of luxury features included.
My Mazda has 260,000 miles. 2006 Mazda 3. Made in Japan and 5spd. Still going strong and never any major work. Just tires, brakes and normal worn out suspension parts. Will buy again. Plus no CVT
I watch a ton of car reviews, and I missed it when Mazda made a off-road vehicle. I prefer sedans over SUVs but there very few options for those. The Mazda 6 was a exceptional car.

Got to drive a 6 sedan as a loaner from the dealer and absolutely enjoyed it. Enjoyable=Mazda.
Even though my 3 hatch is the base model, the handling and perceived peppiness make commutes bearable.
I bought my first Mazda in 2002, and have purchased only Mazda cars since then. They are very dependable, fun to drive, and a great value for the price. I will be purchasing a CX-50 this year, because it handles well and fits well with my needs and wants.
Just a quick note about touchscreen infotainment systems. I leased a CX-5 in 10/22 and a significant reason was that their infotainment system was NOT touchscreen. I am one of the minority that believes that touch screens are more distracting and more dangerous than the Mazda console knob selector. My two previous BMW’s had the knob selector and I learned to appreciate not having to fiddle with a touchscreen. BTW, I love my Mazda!
The knob is so much more convenient and easier to use than a grimy touch screen.
Exactly! I'm fine with my touch screen navigation but for regular controls, they are better as knobs and switches.
The reason why alot of people hate teslas. Touch screens can cause accidents. The same reasons why phones cause accidents.

I have a Jeep that I've owned my whole adult life (1999 model bought new). With the occasional parts thrown at it, it's got 254k miles on it, and it's still fine. They don't really make anything like the Wrangler TJ now. I don't even remember what computer I had when I bought that Jeep, but I know it's laughable, and the OS on it was end-of-lifed over 20 years ago.

The only caveat I would add is for things like Apple carplay. Using a knob for a touchscreen-centered app is always gonna be clunky and inefficient.
I have the 2021 cx-30. I love the infotainment system. I think it is very comfortable that the controls are in the perfect place. The least distracting while driving as opposed to reaching for the screen
I decided to buy a 2024 cx-5. Base trim, isn’t even on the lot yet but I drove the 2023 and fell in love. Dealer said the 24 version will be the same essentially. I also like the no touchscreen. It’s challenging to get used to but after 10 minutes of playing with it I figured it out. Also it’s safer than leaning forward to touch a screen.
I just bought my first Mazda ever last week. 2023 Mazda 3 Turbo Hatchback. It's such an awesome car, I don't see why people are buying them more. Yes, it doesn't get the best fuel mileage but still such aa great car, it's very comfortable and feels very premium. I can't be happier about getting it.
Because it costs almost $38K MSRP, at least in my area. Unless you're a Mazda fan, that's too much $$ for a small hatchback from an "economy" brand for most people. I say this as someone who owns and drive a 2019 Mazda3 Hatchback (2.5L NA).
@@michaelchimenti4989 I bought a Mazda3 Hatchback (NA 2.5, AWD) about 18 months ago and I think it's a bargain... mine stickered for under $26k and was just one step up from base with leatherette seats and no sunroof, but has everything I need including automatic cruise control. It's comfortable, attractive inside and out, quiet, and fun even with the non-turbo engine and the 6-speed auto which unfortunately was the only option with the AWD. I live in Michigan and the AWD is definitely nice to have... and this is a lot more attractive to me than a Subaru Impreza. I agree, I like the car a lot but I'm not sure I'm willing to pay $38k for one... even with another 60 hp.
The Mazda 3 is a great car I had a 2004 3 and it was great now I have a 2023 CX-5. The CX-5 is awesome too
I would absolutely love a Mazda 3 turbo but if I could afford that price I'd probably get an Integra A-Spec. Both are out of my range right now. I'm currently looking for a low mile used Mazda 3. Unfortunately, it probably won't be the turbo but it will still have a better interior, stereo and more hp than the Civic hatchback I was considering. No CVT is also another big reason for me
I love the Mazda 3 turbo hatch, I had my heart set on one. But for 38k it was just to small and cramped inside, and I’m a relatively small dude. If they could match the civic for space and practicality it would be a home run.
I will always stick with mazda as my future car brand, I'm just so in love with the top quality looks and interior, also the great reliability. Mazda is so underrated :(
I just purchased a CX-50 because I spent a lot of time doing research on all cars in that segment. Since the CX-50's release I've been comparing Honda, Toyota, and Subaru and easily picked the Mazda. I realize not everyone has the same requirements as I do but the Mazda checked the most boxes. I've only come to appreciate it more since the purchase.
Do you mind sharing what helped you decide on Mazda?
1st model year is why my wife and I stayed away from CX-50, and went with CX-5 Turbo signature.
Exactly, I did the same while buying my cx5. It just checked so many boxes compared to competition

Just purchased a Mazda CX-30, my 3rd Mazda. So far I like it a lot, a nice balance of cost/performance/looks. There is a trim level called Select (which is like the second from the bottom trim level) that probably is the sweet spot for price/performance. My one suggestion for Mazda would be split the trim levels after the Select level, one luxury and one performance. What I mean basically is that in order to get the turbo CX-30 you have to buy one of the Premium level cars, which is multiple trim levels above the Select and costs about $8k+ more and has many "luxury" extras I did not want to pay for. If the turbo was available for $2-3k more than the Select (basically just a Select trim with the Turbo) I would have bought that in a heartbeat. I went for the Carbon edition, two levels up from the Select just cause I liked the color and red leather seats and black rims, but honestly, for the extra money I would have preferred the turbo and the performance enhancements and given up things like the sunroof.
They need to bring the Mazda 6 and Mazdaspeed back
You didn't mention this: given the same footprint, Mazda will definitely gives you the smallest inner room for all their vehicles among all the makes, no exceptions.
This is literally why I don’t want one. A true fact is that the giant CX-90 that just came out, it’s longer than almost every three row crossover yet has less cargo capacity than a Honda CR-V
Yup, last time I bought a car I test drove a CX-5 and the nice but small interior room is what made me go elsewhere. And I'm not a huge person at 5'11" 180 lbs.

Bought a '16 Mazda3 in 2018. Great car and averaged 38-40MPG (6spd manual).
I totaled the car 3 nights ago (hit a patch of water going 55-60mph) in Farmington by Lagoon.
Now I'm watching CX-5 videos and I find this one in Utah, nice.
I hope they come back with the Mazda 6. Seriously one of my favorite looking sedan
I’ve read that they will, with an inline 6 and RWD, but that’s been the plan for a few years now and I don’t know if they’re actually going to stick with it. Everyone wants a damn crossover now so why bother bringing cars back, right?

My 2002 Mazda Protégé 5-speed is running like a charm! I’ve never had a mechanical issue outside of typical things like new brakes, etc… I change her oil & filters regularly…and I would not be surprised if she lasted another several years. Rust is becoming more visible - and I hope to do some form of patching/reinforcing to slow down the spread. Take care, all! 👋🏻☀️☺️

The CX-50 is noticeably larger than the CX-5, both outside and inside. Cargo room in the rear has the biggest difference, but not worth the price premium over the CX-5 in my opinion. Plus, last July Mazda was getting cars on the lot faster than the competition, and without dealer markup. I leased CX-5 and my son bought a 2022 Mazda3 off the lot on the same day. We're a 3 mazda family now. Great cars!
I got the cx50 turbo and after 10k miles they changed the transmission and now it’s still doing the same problem.
They also have to change a module behind the bumper cause i have lots of lights flashing on my dashboard.

Mazdas are definitely underappreciated. I have a Mazda 3 hatchback with a manual transmission but I would love to have the turbo AWD version with that manual transmission. My brother just got the CX-30 and I really like it. We currently have a Toyota, a Honda, and the Mazda 3 which is my commuter car and I love it.
Agree on keeping manual transmission as an option for some model. True car enthusiast that liked to zoom-zoom wants that manual for the ultimate experience. But as a country that is leaning heavy on "convenience", the company probably decided to follow the trend which is quite sad. The company should also pump a little money on social media platform ads, I just saw 2 Toyota ads watching this video.
I love Mazda's! I've had four. One Mazda 3 for my Daughter's first car and I've owned three CX5's. I just traded in my 2014 CX5 with 108,000 miles and never had a problem with it. I just bought a 2021 CX5 that's loaded with features and it's fantastic so far. Super great cars, fun to drive and they just look beautiful inside and out! I agree they need to advertise more and maybe a hybrid. But, I'll never own anything else.
Yes, Mazda's are the auto industry's best-kept secret. I think they also lost some of that Zoom-Zoom when they dropped the Speed versions of the 3 and 6.
I'm a Mazda lover. I have always been a Mazda lover. I will always be a Mazda lover. My cars have been great for me. My 2007 Speed3 had 180k miles on it and was still running great when some jackwagon rear-ended me a few days ago, and insurance will undoubtedly total it. I love the car so much, I'm thinking of just trying to repair it myself, since most everything is just replacing stuff.

2006 Mazda 3 hatch
2007 Mazdaspeed 3
2014 Mazda 6 Signature
2018 Mazda CX-9 Signature
I have no doubt that my next car will be a Mazda.
I think there are two main reasons for declining sales (even though they are very good vehicles) : 1st they have increased prices significantly and 2nd their lineup is basically the same since 2017 and they don't show any sign of design changes in near future.

CX 30, CX 50, CX 90, all new since 2019.
I have a 2018 CX 5. It clearly was the winner when we were comparing it to other comparable cars. Have been very happy with it and would buy another . It felt more luxurious than the others too. The design still feels fresh 5 years later.
I’m surprised to hear that Mazda is SO small. I live in San Francisco, and every other car here is a CX-5. There’s TONS of them here! I guess San Francisco is just a bubble?
Same in downtown Houston but not so much in the suburbs where trucks are preferred. The CX 5 is a great city car to show luxury when you don't want to pay a Mercedes price
Here in the NYC metro you see a ton of them too but I've noticed I don't see as many in other areas.

Getting ready to purchase a new MX-5. Have already purchased a 2016 Mazda3, 2021 CX-5, and 2023 CX-30. They are all fantastic!
I have a 2016 MX - 5 Club soft top with the Brembo / BBS package that I bought in March of 2017 off the dealer lot. Its a daily drive for me even in winter. It is a well designed car that is reliable driving thru some of the worst weather in my long driving history. Love this car !

I bought my 2016.5 CX5 back in 2019 as a CPO and its been pretty great. I used it to cart all my crap to my new job in Montana then drove it all around up there, even towed a UTV with it and it never quit or faltered on me. Then I drove it all the way back to Florida in late 2020 after my job let me move back thanks to COVID. It went the whole way towing a 10 foot trailer loaded with furniture with no issues. Now its almost paid off and I use it as my daily driver. I did do a few modifications to it to keep it fresh and fun, but its been a very useful and enjoyable vehicle. I appreciate a lot of the stuff mazda put into it, like the fun handling and comfortable interior. I also really enjoy the look of it with the swoop in the side doors. It may just be a CUV but I've really enjoyed my time with it and since its been so reliable Im probably just gonna keep it as long as it lasts. I only have about 45,000 miles on it so it should last for a while, I hope. Would I buy another mazda after this one though? I think so, granted I wish they would produce something like their RX-Vision concept car or something larger then the Miata. I love the Miata, im just too big for it and I would like something with a little more space since it'd end up as my daily. Maybe I'll look at a Mazda3 and see how they've evolved (hopefully with a MT/TB option) Its doubtful since Mazda wants to go upmarket so badly, such a shame because their MazdaSpeed cars were so cool.
Mazda did a lot of research on the safety factors with drivers using touchscreens and made a very calculated decision to get rid of them. I like the way they think.
My 2016 MX-5 has a touch screen that works when I'm in neutral ( manual transmission ). When moving the touch screen is disabled & control is done thru the big knob. Actually hate touching the screen because the finger prints you leave show up all over it. So I don't use the touch screen at all.

That’s the one thing that irritates me about all these Mazda car reviews, they completely disregard the actual research about touchscreens. And the placement of the infotainment is designed to be used blind similar to typing on a keyboard.
@@TravisDoomGuide The steering wheel has many of the controls for the screen imbedded into it. Industry wide its under rated. Making calls hands free in my Bluetooth linked convertible is really incredible. Voice commands actually worked well too in my car. No complaints.
I’m excited to see CX-90 that’s coming soon. I’d be all over that if Mazda had made a PHEV version, but there’s only so much you can put in one car.
There is going to be a PHEV version of the CX-90. Get all over it.

Edit: PHEV is the one with the 4 cylinder I think. So gonna miss the smoothness of the inline 6 but if the engine stays shut down in electric mode, It will be nice.

I think the rusty panels and cheap and noisy interior in the 2000's hurt their reputation , but any Mazda made after 2018 is awsone and worth looking into.
I have owned Mazda's, Honda's, Ford's and Chryslers, and by far my favorite car was my Mazda MPV...It honestly was the best vehicle I have ever owned...I kept it for 10 years and it was reliable and fun to drive. I finally had to get rid of it at around 200K miles because it would cost more to fix than it was worth. My son loves his CX 5 and I am waiting on the new Mazda 6 if it ever comes out...but they are great cars.
I dealt with this exact dealership, and with a large inventory of CX-5s they just would not budge from MSRP. So I walked.
I LOVE my Mazda Mazda6 Signature! When I decide to upgrade, it will definitely be to another Mazda. Great looks (IMO), Upscale interiors for mainstream pricing and phenomenal safety!
Main reason I'm not so fond of their cars is - old powertrain that gets less mpg. CX-50 is bigger in size but not actually bigger inside when it comes to family hauling. Cheapened out on suspension for the CX50 too. Only thing making me consider it is that it's priced cheaper than other brands for the same equipment. Build what people want.
I loved my Mazda it was 15 years old, and I sold it to a driver in Florida. I live in DE. That car was the best car I ever had. It was the Mazda Trubiuin. It had just turned 100,000.00. I would have kept it if I was able to drive. I lost both of my legs and my left hand, and I am only 63, and I do not feel that I could drive safely. It was a great price, and it ran great. I never have a day of problems with that suv. I would never have a Honda, Or a Nissan. I heard that you were back the tributes?

I would definitely buy the Mazda three hatch turbo if it was available with a manual. I just purchased a Mazda CX30 with the turbo and it can really get up and go, but would be a lot more fun with a stick shift. They could make the stick available on both because it is same frame, engine, etc. My main complaint about the car is it needs a bigger gas tank.
You can get a manual in a Mazda 3 ... but only the top-of-the-line trim and non-turbo.
No, it wouldn't. The 2.5T doesn't like to rev and power drops off a cliff after 4500 rpm. With a manual you'd be short shifting instead of running it up to the redline. Even Mazda tuned their AT to shift before the redline with the 2.5T. It's not a rewarding experience. The experience would be more akin to driving a diesel. Not to mention Mazda doesn't have the money for the R&D and certification of a manual with the 2.5T, and they can't make a business case for it due to the low take rate of manuals in the US.
Manuals are history. There is virtually zero market now for manuals. If you want a manual Mazda....buy a Miata.
Totally agree about the gas tank. I have a 2021 CX-30 Turbo Premium and I'm very lucky if I can get 300 miles on a single tank. Plus gas mileage around town is in the low 20's which to me is unacceptable on both fronts.

I just bought a CX-30 three weeks ago. Why? I was looking at Toyota, Honda and Ford. I also considered Subaru and Lexus. However, every comparison tended to have CX-30 owners who were total fans of their vehicles. This included people who didn't come across as mindless fanboys trying to justify their purchases. So, I did some serious research into the CX-30, CX-5 and CX-50. I came to the conclusion that they are amazing values considering their quality, power and luxury compared with other brands. It made the CX-30 feel like an easy decision.

Initially, I was looking at Toyota, Honda, Ford, Subaru and Hyundai. It didn't take long to realize the value, quality and luxury of Mazda. That is when I narrowed it down to Mazda. Within Mazda, I looked at the CX-30, CX-5 and CX-50. I also considered the Mazda 3 hatchback too.
We are a married couple w/o kids yet.
- The CX-30 front seats are very luxurious, comfortable and surprisingly spacious. I am just over 6-feet in height and my wife is 5'2". We both just fit very well in it. The driver seat is adjustable -- going back, forward, up, down, pivot-tilt and recline. Lower trims is a manual adjustment for each. The premium trims do this electronically (with memory settings).
The CX-30 feels very sporty too. Everything is just placed very well and most of it is nearly identical between the models (i.e., CX-30, CX-5 and CX-50). Despite this, the CX-30 has the lowest price of the three models too.
- The smaller size of the CX-30 provides just a bit more real-world horsepower. We get 191hp -- and you feel it when the light turns green or when on the highway (especially compared to other vehicles in the segment). We had considered the Toyota C-HR, Corolla Cross and Honda HRV. All three felt sluggish. Even the Bronco Sport felt underwhelming in terms of power (and sport for that matter).
- The safety features on the CX-30 are identical to its big brothers. They are also very good and easy to use compared with vehicles from other companies. The base model CX-30 is missing blindside traffic alert. However, the other trims have all AND the blindside traffic alert. This makes mid-trims like the Select ($25,250 MSRP) and Preferred ($28,220 MSRP) quite amazing values.
- We don't have children (yet). So, the lesser amount of leg room in the back wouldn't be an issue. We do have occasional friends or family members riding in the rear. I'm over 6' in height and I can fit well. It does feel a bit tight in the back, but it is still very doable (and comfortable too). Even if we have begin having kids, it's easy to get car seats in and out. If it is very doable for me (over 6-feet in height), then the kids can grow in this quite well.
- The CX-30 just looks....amazing. It is very cool. One of the reasons we were interested in the Toyota C-HR was because of it's design. It's unique. However, the C-HR just had terrible interior design issues for the price. The CX-30 looks sharp. It's sporty and elegant at the same time -- both inside and outside. It's very unique when you see one on the road or in a parking lot. That's how I first noticed the CX-30. I live in the Silicon Valley and I saw a few around here. It was enough to attract my attention. While the CX-5 is somewhat similar, it looks a bit more "normal." Personally, I love the design of the CX-50 too. It looks a bit more rugged. However, the CX-50 looks like a cross between the Toyota RAV4 and the Mazda CX-30.
- Price: Again, I cannot emphasize it enough. I was able to get the CX-30 below MSRP. Toyota, Honda and Ford were selling above MSRP in our area. The CX-5 is a more popular option (it's Mazda's best seller), so I don't know what price it would sell for (probably MSRP). I got the CX-30 for $1200 below MSRP.
If I were you, I would visit my local dealership and test drive all three. Bear in mind the price and the size you would need for actual everyday use.

My 1997 MX6 is finally retiring, and I want safety in a small, sporty car with fold down seats for skis and fishing gear. I'm going to buy a CX30 in the next few days, just making those final choices. My neighborhood just paid a big markup to get a Subaru Forester. Glad I'm not worrying about that!
@@RockandRollWoman I went ahead and purchased the Select trim. I didn't really want/need a moonroof -- and I am a bit tall (and the lack of a moonroof provides an extra inch or two). I kind of regret the lack of power seat adjustment (with memory). That's only available on Preferred or higher trims. Either way, I'm confident that you'll love it as much as I do!
As a woman that works in IT, many people don’t know that you can enable the touch screen in driver mode. You will just get a warning every time you start your car saying that “enabling touch screen while driving is dangers”. That’s all
Ben, you’re right on and it’s great you’re addressing this. Mazda’s lack of marketing is also impacting resale value. The vehicles are good, but their resale value is horrid because if the lack of awareness of how good they are and overall reputation. I hope Mazda’s listening so they rectify this. Low resale value will impact the number of consumers willing to buy a car they can’t sell or trade well in the longer term. This limits the buyers’ buying power later on, and it’s maddening when we have to sell them at a low price especially when we know how good the vehicles are. 😡
Mazda's not so stupid that they're thinking "we don't feel like marketing." They're not wealthy enough to advertise as much as the biggies, because they aren't as big as them.

It’s been reported that it should be coming back, with RWD and an in-line six-cylinder. Not sure how far off that will be, or if it will actually happen though.
I love Mazda! My CX-5 is so nice to drive and people always think it's far more expensive than it is because the interior is so nice. My one problem with their vehicles is storage space...far smaller than their main competitors. And you're right Ben they don't advertise near enough and I'm not sure why. I think if folks saw them and the prices they'd check them out b4 buying a Toyota or a Honda.

I was a Toyota guy for many years, I was just about to buy a new Rav4 and decided to check out a CX-5, now I'm a Mazda guy. I almost didn't even check them out because of the lack of a touch screen, now I prefer the navigation wheel, but, THEY HAVE TO PUT IN A TOUCH SCREEN, this turn off people before they even look at the car or drive it, I was almost one of those people.

I was helping a friend shop a new car to replace her 2002 RAV-4. My friend did not like the interior and instrument panel of the CX-5, preferring the busy and gimmicky RAV-4's--I couldn't believe it. She ended up selecting a RAV-4 Hybrid.
Mazda is very underrated. People always say go for Honda or Toyota when buying new cars and I always pipe in and tell to check out mazda
Great video! I am leaning strongly toward a Mazda, probably a 2021 Grand Touring model. I first sat in a 626 and RX7 in 1976 and found them to be very good cars. I am different, but if I were Mazda, I would take it right to other manufacturers about reliability, drivability, interior quality, etc. They do not charge a premium for the name as Toyota and Honda do.
I’m just nearing the end of my lease on the 2021 CX-5 GT model. It has been a great car, no issues at all. It’s beautiful and all that I need. I love the heads up display so you can see both your speed and the posted road speed on your windshield. It has a great back up camera plus folding side mirrors. You won’t be sorry. Because my lease is up, I’ll be leasing a 2023 Premium Plus model, which now includes AWD, but is basically the same car as the Grand Touring. I’ve had CX-5s since 2018. I’m hoping they’ll come out with a Hybrid in a year or so.
Traded in a Bronco Sport Big Bend for a CX-5. That was the best decision ever.

I got us a 2022 and 2018 Mazda CX-9 and we are super happy with both for many reasons!
I absolutely love Mazda and I was a Chevy guy for many years. I swore by Chevy but when I bought my wife her first Mazda cx-30, I saw the CX-9 CE and fell in love with it. Reliable, good looking and AWD all for a good price of 46k out the door. No markup.
I love the look and practicality of the cx-30, with one major exception: The wheel wells use a ridiculous amount of plastic. I’m not sure what their design team was thinking, but it’s a huge turnoff.
I agree, there is no reason for such ridiculous plastic flares. I do love my CX30 turbo but I’m sure it would look beautiful without those plastic fender flares…

I love it. Both in looks and the fact that it has saved ny car from dings in the parking lot 3 times. Once a lady reversed into me pretty hard and not a scratch.
Conversely, I love the cladding and think it looks great. It caught my eye immediately and set it apart from all the other blander CUVs out there.
I think it’s better when you buy a darker color 30, but I was looking at white CUV’s at the dealership and I did not like the look at all😂

Exactly as you said. Just didn't know much about them. When I recently learned about their favorable reliability, they were added to my list of options for my daughters.
Reliability is #1 for me which is why I graduated from terrible German cars - VW, Audi, to Honda, Subaru, Toyota, Lexus. All 4 Asian brands being huge improvements over any Teutonic makes 😄

@@rickymahoney6664 Right, lexus shot way up in price even for the not as popular models. I buy with higher miles used since I don't put many miles on and they're so reliable. I make sure carfax is clean and the interior looks great. You can usually tell about previous owners by the interior.

Sad they dropped the Mazda6. I had wanted one for a few years now this year I was finally in the market to buy and they dropped it from the line up. Hesitant to buy a car that isn't made anymore as finding parts will become difficult (former Pontiac owner...)
That's what junkyards are for. Every car model will suffer the same fate unfortunately. But for the 6, many parts will be interchangeable with the CX-5
I heard that they are making a new version of the Mazda 6 with a 6-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive. I have a 2017 Mazda 6 and it is great.

I'm an avid Mazda fan here. We went to the Mazda factory in Hiroshima Japan and watched how the vehicle was being made of. It was fascinating to watch. We're waiting for the CX5 2023 to arrive in Australia to purchase.
My sister in Australia has one and loves it. In fact her daughter liked it so much she traded in her bmw for one. I like my mazda 6 sedan personally, no desire for an "suv" type vehicle.
We have been in the market for an SUV. No inventory or high prices on 2023 Pilots and old gen 4runner is making us think Mazda CX-9. Built in Japan, looks great, but really not sure why we don't see that many on the road. Feel free to chime in.
I think not having a touch screen is brilliant. There is nothing I hate more than seeing a small TV interrupting all of the elegant design elements someone put in to the interior of a vehicle. I know Im in the minority but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if there was a move away from large touch screens. My wife and I are commited to getting a CX-50 when and if incentives improve. Naturally aspirated engines, and automatic transmissions. I won't even look at a Honda or Toyota.
Bought a new ‘22 CX-5 last year. Absolutely love it. At least at the dealership I purchased it at, they couldn’t get cars in fast enough. Supply chain only reason they couldn’t sell more cars.

Have a Series II, 2010 RX-8 now and it has been a great car. Owned 1 1973 RX-3, 1 1974 RX-3, 1 1978 RX-4, and a 2004 RX-8. Rotaries are sure fun to drive, to bad they don't make it anymore.
I’ve got a 2016 Mazda six with 120,000 miles on it. I just got a AAA safety inspection and nothing was wrong with it on the list of all the possibilities. It’s been a really great car when I drive it on the road ,I can get 44 miles to the gallon at 65 miles an hour I’ve been told that I will easily get 200,000 miles out of this car. I highly recommend Mazda’s built in Japan.
Just stopped in again for a second time. Right away I can see a major problem with Mazda. It is that they have way too many models to choose from. I would get so confused, that I would just leave, as I couldn't comprehend all the different models. Great report.
I was in Melbourne and Perth earlier this month (May 2023), and I saw A LOT of Mazdas (majority of them being Mazda 3). My impression is that it even rivals the very popular Toyota Rav4, so I don’t think Mazda is doing so bad in other parts of the worlds.
Well it’s obvious that all cars have reached a price point that is not surmountable by dragging out loan terms ever longer. If people would just stick with their current car unless buying a new one is really a necessity, car prices would drop a lot.
Car buying is not a rational decision for many sadly. Advertizing plays a big part no doubt.
Great job on the video. I’m a three year CX 30 owner, it’s been an excellent SUV. Even though the CX30 is assembled in Mexico and not Japan like the CX5, it’s still very well built and super reliable. My next vehicle will be the CX5 because the CX 30 is a little to low in the headroom, tight in the rear seat and the door line side window is just a little to high. It’s workable, but I’d prefer a little more room. I don’t see the Mazda Dealers to worried about selling though, I’ve been trying to get a good deal for the last few months and they still want way to much. I’ll wait until they are sucking wind.
The Mazda dealers keep pestering me but as long as their prices are going down I think I can afford to wait to get a sweet deal. I might get a CX 5 base with only side roof racks because I can install all the other crap myself. I am not financing floor mats or mud flaps. I also wouldn't mind getting a pre-owned one with really low miles if the price is right.
We have two CX5 models in the family. They are very good vehicles.
Go for cx-50, cx-3 and cx-5 is almost identical... if you want to upgrade go for cx-50.
I'm about to buy a cx-30. I've had my Maxda MX 6 since 1997, and hate to let go of the sports car, but I want all the safety stuff. Looks like it will be perfect for one person. Avoiding touchscreen controls is a big plus.

Ten years ago I had a CX7 for a three year lease and enjoyed it. Wasn’t too happy that they got rid of the CX7 which seemed like a perfect size.
Mazda's only "problem" now is time. They need time to gain more followers and brand recognition. Keep it up and good things will happen!
People that drive a Honda or Toyota have one thought: go to the dealer and buy another without thought. Mazda is an exceptional brand, the real concern I have is price point and the car line they once had is drying up. No more 6 and the 3 may be in jeopardy also.
Cars (sedans, hatchbacks, coupes) in general are drying up. Last year, they made up less than 20% of sales, less than a quarter if you count luxury cars. Crossovers, SUVs, and pickups are, by far, the most common vehicles sold in the US, which also helps to explain why the average price of a new vehicle is in the mid-40s now. People just want mobile living rooms nowadays, what can I say 🤷♂️
I love my 21 CX9 it is enjoyable to drive and feels high end. I prefer the control wheel vs a touch screen took me about a week to get used to but I would miss it if I ever changed vehicles. I don’t even have to look at the screen to navigate it anymore. I am expecting a baby and unfortunately the third row is just a little tight. We can make it work but really wish the third row had more room.

I think depending on who they want to appeal to, Mazda needs to keep up with Acura and Lexus if they want to be a luxury performance brand. Acura with their ‘Type S’ lineup and Lexus with their ‘F’ cars. They need to bring back their Mazdaspeed performance lineup if they want to appeal to younger buyers.
Before I leased my first CX-5, I considered the NTX Lexus SUV; however, it was not as comfortable inside. There were two of us and we sat up front. Neither of us liked the more cramped interior, plus there were issues we’d read about with the display system. Nope. Mazda felt so much better. I do like the full size Lexus SUV, but I have yet to drive one.
@@kosmosbjm My brother-in-law had the ‘21 CX-5 AWD and after needing to borrow it a couple of times, I found it comfortable but absolutely boring to drive for my taste. I just really dislike how slow it picks up speed and how it holds on to each gear for dear life before it finally upshifts. But at the end of the day, I think it makes for a great commuter car at least.

My first car was a Mazda. A 73 RX2. Rotary engine with 4 speed and car was super fast. Ate 302 Mustangs for lunch! Had an old 626 for a short time and a B2000 pick up. Love it also. Agree with their identity crisis and that seems to happen with using too many numbers instead of names.
Nice! Back in High school I owned an RX-4 with 13B rotary and it would smoke RX-7s on the top end. I lost few races back then as few cars ran over 110 mph back in the day and she would top out at 125 mph...slow as shit for today's standards but in 83 that was fast

They’ve been mostly alphanumeric in the US though: 323/626/929, MX-3/5/6, 2/3/5/6, RX-7/8, etc. they’ve used names like Miata, Protegé and Millennia, but that seems more like the exception than the norm. In Japan, they use names like Demio (known here as the 2) and Axela (here as the 3 and, iirc, the Protegé), but Mazda’s been taking the letter-number route in the US longer than, say, Cadillac and Lincoln has.
Mazdas were in the right price point before the pandemic. Now they are 5k higher across the board. I purchased a cx5 in 2020, great price. I’m in the market for a new car,but Mazda has priced themselves out of my range.
exactly this. the entire 3 / 30 series lineup is 25% more expensive than pre-pandemic prices and financing is substantially more expensive. it's not like only mazda is guilty of this but any shortcomings get tough to overlook when you're paying substantially more for the same product sold in 2020.

Love the no-touch screen…love the joy stick…so easy to use, and is safer when you are driving!!❤. Please do not change it! Would love to see a lighter color of leather in the Signature Series. Do not like black interiors.

I bought a 2023 Turbo! Best carI have ever owned to date, especially adjusted for price! I start smiling as I race around in it. I started out as a BMW guy out of college. I then bought the first generation Miata and the 3rd generation RX-7 as a young man. I then switched to wide variety of Mercedes because I had kids. As thought kids grew up and started driving, I got sick of paying for endless repairs and upkeep. NowI am an empty nester and I went downscale. No regrets.
Ugh it's so annoying when people rip on the mazda infotainment system, that's probably hurting their sales too! it's super intuitive after using it for more than 20 minutes. And new ones are touch screen when using apple car play or android auto
I was in the market for a new car last year and narrowed it down to the Mazda 3 or Honda Civic. Ended up buying a 2022 Mazda 3 Turbo sedan because I preferred how it drove and thought it looked better. It was a win win as far as I was concerned

Mazda will offer a hybrid option with the new CX-90 this Spring.
They also offer a manual transmission on the Mazda 3 hatchback.
Good luck finding a Mazda 3 manual.

I owned 2 CX 5's since 2014, love them both. Hope they continue to make CX 5 , I would buy another one in a few years. Maybe a hybrid version.

I have one of the very few ND Club Miatas in my town and I always get people asking what I'm driving. I've taken a bunch of friends for a ride (who own anything from BMW M3, Tesla Model Y, and even 86) in the canyons and they all want one now. If Mazda isn't going to advertise it, it's pretty easy for me to do it for them. What an engineering marvel. I plan to own more Mazdas to compliment my MX-5.
Your video was very interesting. My wife purchased a 2013 CX5, the first year it came out. She bought it because it had a 6 speed manual. The only other car in that segment that had a stick at that time was the Subaru cross trek which was considerably more expensive with all wheel drive (the cross trek being the only compact SUV to offer a stick in 2023 which they will not offer in 2024) I inherited this CX5 when my wife moved on. We live in western NY so I would like AWD CSUV, but, do not want to give up the stick, to your point about Mazda should make a stick available as they dropped around 2018 in the CX5. I was surprised and very disappointed when virtually the entire US car market, foreign and domestic, walked away from the manual transmission. Shame on them. BTY, best anti theft feature EVER!

Mazda’s marketing in the early 2000’s coming from a blahhh brand in the 90’s (except the MX-5 Miata) to fun to drive zoom zoom brand starting with the attractive looking, premium feeling, and fun to drive 2003 Mazda 6 really brought them back from the grave. They have continued to come out with enthusiast cars with not the best quality reputation (RX-8) but still a cult following, legendary and great in the gear head community, and auto world. Now they’re keeping up with the Jone’s with the wide selection of great looking and fun to drive Crossovers. They’re kind of high end without coming out with a luxury brand/division like Toyota and Honda did which saves money on the end of the day, but still gives consumers higher end trims fit and finishes without the premium price. (Not really but sort of) And many predominantly young professionals who buy the brand know this! Young professionals who don’t want entry-level fit ‘ finish of a Toyota and Honda, but can’t or don’t want to pay premium prices for a Lexus or Acura, or even German brands go for a Mazda, which will offer the same driving characteristics of a German car and similar luxury feel of a German or Japanese Luxury brand. (Mazda was actually going to be the 4th Japanese auto company to come out with a luxury brand but it never officially happened). So it’s a lifestyle brand. And only people who know the value of Mazda will buy it. They need better marketing, and appeal. They’ve attempted to make fuel efficient cars with the ‘sky active technology’, and they are coming out with a rotary powered extended range EV, but they need to focus on EV’s and hybrids more, along with a better infotainment system.
And of course they need to appeal to people who don’t necessarily know about the brand and cars in general to attract those who are buying Hyundai’s, Toyota’s, and Chevy’s as well as Luxury brand buyers.
I’m hoping to avoid buying an EV as much as possible, so I don’t care about that. I own three Mazdas one is a 2006.
They are really good dependable vehicles and drive well.
I don’t know about Utah , but Mazda’s do very well over here in the NY metro area. You see a lot of them

Mazdas have always been slept on, my RX8 topped out over 150mph, ripped through Indy 500 tires (front and back) and my cx5 turbo is sooo much fun to drive.
