"Getting a rocky mountain high in Colorado doesn't exactly mean the same thing that it used to". John walked that G rated line better than a field sobriety test.
Johnny Diesel the GOAT. Guy spits absolute fire in these reviews.
It’s amazing this guy is still alive, I would allways watch this show in the 80s and 90s on the Camaros and Silverados I owned back then and I owned then, all these years later and now he’s doing one on my new Colorado Trail Boss!
I have owned my z71 trim for 7 months now and absolutely love it! I had the 430lb ft of torque tune done to mine and it is pretty amazing for a 4 banger! Most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned, and I have owned many of them!
Unpainted plastic bumpers and halogen headlights paired with a fully digital dash is just plain strange and cheap.
There are lots of cost-cutting going on this all-new Colorado. LED light bulbs are much brighter and burn less energy than the halogen bulbs. The interior is excessively covered with plastic and I don't like the boring gray color interior.
That new UAW contract is getting paid from somewhere
@@bobbbobb4663 lol yeah but these decisions were made long before the strikes. We will prob just keep seeing insane price hikes every year like we have been seeing since the world lost its mind in 2020.
This is a low trim level truck they reviewed - but all the colorados have the same instrument cluster to reduce design costs
@@jasonwalker4444 it’s actually not a low trim it’s the 3rd trim up from the base and starts at 38k and the trim below it the LS has a painted fascia. This is simply cost cutting disguised as being “rugged”.
I wish they kept the 6 foot box.
The entire time that I've driven, I've done so with either Halogens or Sealed Beam Headlights and Fog Lights and I've ALWAYS been able to see everything that I needed to see perfectly clear. This is driving in remote areas as well as in suburban and City settings.
I don't have any kind of need or want for LED Headlights or Fog Lights. As far as Halogens not lasting too long, I'll tell you from experience of owning many vehicles as well as observing the vehicles of family and friends, Halogens don't burn out as often as proponents of LEDs say. I've had vehicles with Halogens that lasted from 7-12 years before burning out. And when they do burn out, they cost about $20-$30 for the pair and are an easy fix that takes about 15-20 minutes.
LED Headlights and Fog Lights are Dangerous to other motorists and pedestrians (even when perfectly aimed/properly adjusted). This is because Not all roads are perfectly flat, even and straight.
Natural topography and even slight differences in elevation will cause dangerous Glare to others. Not even considering the reflection off of puddles in the road, wet pavement, etc.
personally I like basic style headlights. the view from the 2011 Town and Country is great in my opinion. projectors are hit and miss for both driver and other traffic depending on the cutoff. Either way, I'm not jumping for joy for mainstream LED units at the moment.
@@trumpet12345
My Aunt drives a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan with the Original Halogen Headlights and Fog Lights that came with it brand new. It has over 150,000 miles on it, She drives it half during daylight hours and half during dark hours. She's never had to replace the Headlights or Fog Lights (She's only had to have the plastic lens polished up and given a UV protectant headlight cover from WeatherTech).
So, all that noise about Halogen Headlights burning out quickly is a bunch of B S by LED manufacturers and their fanboys.
Oh, that 3.6 V6 Pentastar Engine is a Champ !!
I see deer on the side of the road much better with LED headlights, I won't go back
o ya. love the 3.6, love the stow n go, the comfort...and just how well it still is shy of 200k miles. a keeper for sure.@@stbrian1861
Unfortunately these new Colorados and Canyons since both are GM they have plastic oil drain plugs. How do I know this? I work at a GMC dealer as a lube tech. I was very disappointed. They have the oil filter canisters in the new Canyons and Colorados. The previous generation Colorado and Canyon has the traditional metal oil drain plug. But it had the cartridge oil filter.
Like the goofy half twist plastic ones that ford's been using? I mean they work, but the O rings don't seal that well since plastic drain plug begins to wear and gets lose over time.
I have a 2023 canyon at4x & it has a metal pan & plug. I know bc I changed the oil myself at 250 miles.
For just shy of $40k, I would of expected the interior of this truck to look a lot nicer. From the video, it looks like there's a lot of hard/scratchy plastics, and for that price, I don't like that.
It's a POS
Even the Denali Canyon for nearly $60k has the same scratchy plastic which is really disappointing. The Ranger and Tacoma have much nicer materials even on the lower versions
Get a Toyota
@@allentoyokawa9068and get less hp, torque, space, towing payload. But hey, when you sell it to someone else, the resale value, right? You just have to settle for less while you have it.
It's a truck 😂
Motor Wheek, man 👨 you are my hero 🙌
For all of those commenting on price wait till you see Tacoma and Ranger stickers. An XLT Ranger with FX4 package is pushing $5k more than this.
As far as the complaints about the 4 cylinder, the only mid size with a V6 in 2024 is Nissan and they’re a company that seems to now solely exist to sell rental/fleet vehicles or to individuals with a sub 600 credit score.
40 grand for a sea of gray plastic, weekly fuel tank fill ups, 1/4 mile times that were considered average ten years ago and if that has the lovely ten speed automatic that has been plaguing Chevy and Ford lately, no thanks.
Nope, has a 8 speed automatic.
I guess they haven't figured out the the solution to life isn't making everything turbo charged.
My wife has a 2019 Z71 4x4. 42k miles and we are DONE with it. Goodyear wranglers made it 30k miles. Just spent a grand on replacing a thermostat. The touch screen quit working. It also now has the 'Chevy shimmy" regrettably she's now looking at a "Taco"
This is actually affordable. These are surprisingly smooth, I have one as a work vehicle. Let’s hope reliability continues to improve with the Chevy brand.
Improve? Before 1980 the only thing that would kill a chevy is rust. Now you're lucky if they'll last half as long as the old ones did.
@@thystaff742my 02 Silverado I bought new and still own has zero rust, still has stickers on the frame!
I'm a Toyota and Ford guy, but I like this truck. It's an off-road upgrade over the base trims, so I don't understand the ridiculous complaints.
Trailboss is supposed to be a discounted Z71, for pure offroading. Not a luxury truck. The complaints are ridiculous.
I absolutely love mine. Ordered mine in Black.
If it's for off roading, where's the skid plates? Where's the locking front diff? Where's the hill assist? The only thing you're paying for is a lift kit here.
I have a 2023 Colorado trail boss. The difference comes from the differential and the rear axle. You need to read the manual and actually take it for a test drive. It's fantastic vehicle. I took it off routing with no frontiers and it did. Fantastic I suggest you give it a chance. And if you don't like it. That's fine, but it does have off-road capabilities.@@LrulestheworldM8
@@LrulestheworldM8 Skid plates are an option, you don't need a front locker. Guess the trd off road and pro aren't off roaders either. Hill assist is a bit of a shame but thats about it. Its a budget off road truck. Spend more money and get a ZR2 if you really wanna keep complaining
The trailboss is great looking in person
LOL GOOD ONE
"IT'S NOT PIECE OF CRAP GUYS, REALLY! YOU JUST HAVE TO SEE IT IN PERSON!"
@@MeliorIlleit looks nice, it might be shit
@@k9fecesits not crap drive it
No auto-temp? Sounds minor, but personally that's a huge No. I'll look at other trucks.
The wife & I have been driving GM/GMC for the past 40 years & every single vehicle has been bulletproof I’m looking to replace my 07 Hummer h3 in 2 more years , I’ve never owned a vehicle with more than 140k miles on it but 140k is plenty of mileage of worry free never been back to the dealership for repairs. I will say that as of right now it’s between the trail-boss & the new Tacoma sport but it’s hard to switch manufacturers when GM/GMC reliability has been so good to my family with rebates & discount I’ve never paid MSRP much less over sticker prices & I just purchased a new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X for under sticker 8 months ago why people pay market adjustment prices I will never understand!
Gm Ford and dodge all give you lower than sticker price bc they need to. The only way they are staying afloat is by selling numbers, and trucks w their fleet sales and huge mark ups are prime to keep people buying.
About your reliability, that's great, try keeping one for 250,000+ gm won't stand up.
Very nice this Chevy Colorado
The Nissan Frontier is a superior truck to anything 'new GM' is currently putting out in the segment. Much more reliable than the colorado could ever hope to be. And you can get the top trim for less money than a colorado, without paying the Toyota tax, and it'll be more reliable than the Toyota and the colorado. I switched from a Silverado and it's been a whole new world of better quality and reliability.
@Lrules364 Agree 100% on the Frontier being a better truck than the Colorado. New Tacoma looks good, has a lot gimmicks like power lift gate which is not really needed. We'll see how the turbo engine holds up.
Typical GM. Outside looks good, the interior is drab and one of the worst I've even seen in a modern vehicle. The only one worse is the Tesla 3. Gray much? For the price you're paying for a midsizer, you figure they could throw in some colored stitching and/or fake carbon fiber. Hard, hard pass on this one.
GMC Canyon looks better from both inside and outside.
More recalls than a Ford Escort...
4 cylinder turbo trucks?!! No thanks.
Might be ok here but in a half ton no way.
@@bmstylee I just think naturally aspirated engines have more longevity.
Lost me at a 4cyl only motor option. Impressive torque numbers, but 4cylinders belong in mini trucks..
Well that’s the way every midsize truck is or is going soooo
40 grand for a 4 banger that gets worse mileage than the V6, It's like an IQ test if you buy one of these.
😂
Uhhh. 4 banger like every single midsize truck minus the frontier? And I’ll bet you $10 what motor Nissan will put in the frontier next gen change…
And Ridgeline, and Gladiator. That's cool, I will buy the V6 beforehand. @@David-cr6fb
It's almost like you don't understand that truck owners care more about torque and pulling power than outright fuel economy figures. You failed your own IQ test.
I am a truck owner and I care about reliability and function, thus why I made a much better choice than you did.@@sleeksilver
And how long before that touch screen is no longer supported , forcing you to buy a new truck?
That engine sounded like a sewing machine.
I got the 430# torque calibration, I’m hitting 60 in 6s
Best do a lot of home work before you by one if these this things, not worth the hype.
I had a 2023 Colorado WT, purchased in April, I hated it, sold it in June. 2nd owner, had it from June to September. Its still on their lot today, the older Colorado's are better in every way.
Gonna be in shop more than in the road
At least paint all the hideous plastic
Is it me or was that engine rattly as hell?
For a Chevy, it doesn't look bad.
So Motred Trend doesn't actually test a 4wd vehicle anymore.?
Nice review.
The only thing I'm opposed to is the mass quantity of exterior black textured plastic. Unless you apply UV Protectant frequently & religiously after each wash, it will all start fading & look terrible within 3 years. Don't forget the windshield wiper cowl!
A turbocharged 4-cylinder truck for over $40,000. Absolutely ridiculous!! That engine will once again be plagued with problems even more than the 3.6 V6. I'll stick with my new V6 Frontier.
What's wrong with the 3.6?
@@shiftmotorsports9803 timing chain issues, oil consumption.
@@hailstorm1986 neither are an issue from 2018-2022. Different motor. 0 issues here. 105k and counting. Frontier is a good truck but every manufacturer has issues
Even my brother in law had issues with the engine in his Tacoma (ultimately a new engine covered by warranty)
No disrespect but a Nissan? They come with tool trays on top of the radiator section, since they know you'll be working on that thing alot
Can’t wait to get my 2024 Z71. Wish it had better gas mileage and i wish the rear sliding window was automatic, but…meh. Such a better looking truck interior and exterior wise over the ranger, and it’s cheaper than the grossly overpriced tacoma.
The front-end design looks like Chevy almost forgot about the headlights. There is too much grill and plastic and tiny headlights
would be better off with a 4.3
Less horsepower, far less torque at a higher RPM, worse gas mileage. How exactly would the ancient 4.3 be better? That engine was put out to pasture for good reason.
I would take my 23 Pro 4x any day. 3.8 naturally aspirated V6.
If you had one, you'd probably know its not a 3.8.
@@TheLostSquadron Please enlighten me? This should be good. I must have dreamt I bought one...
@@Blue-moon12All Tacomas have the same 3.5 liter V6. Is that as good as you hoped?
@TheLostSquadron You said Frontier doesn't have a 3.8. Now you're talking about Tacomas??!! I realised the confusion. I have 23 Nissan Frontier. Not a TRD Pro, but a Pro 4x
@TheLostSquadron Your silence speaks volumes and apology accepted haha
those MSRPs 🤥😮💨
Nice car!
It's doesn't have a physical light switch? How terrible
On average I touch my headlight switch once a year. Usually only to turn them off while idling.
@@spyder000069 I want physical switches for everything.
@pahsons I'm sure you also say that for all your gadgets at home. TV, phone, radio, etc. Funny how doing this is bad on vehicles and necessary on everything else. I never touch mine either way.
@@elche1976 yes actually I do
@@pahsons high maintenance. Gotcha.
i cant wait that vehicle to land in philippines ❤
When will brush guards be available for the chevrolet colorado 2022
Or maybe it's just a foreign version thats more important .
Man it look just as good as the new Tacoma! If not better!👌🥰👍good job Chevy! But I still would take the Toyota over it! Proven quality.
While this is a much improved Colorado, it is far behind the new Tacoma, Ridgeline, Ranger, and Maverick. GM could easily improve the tailgate, brakes, and interior (a light switch please) to be more competitive.
deleting the headlight switch is such a crap bean counter move by GM. They need to be called out for that.
Can you get 401 cubic inch with the alison10 speed that would make one great truck!! i dont want a V6 its just not a truck then😢
Tacoma is the better truck but alot more money for it, but it will keep a better value. Up to you.
The interior of the Trail Boss looks horrible - cheap, drab and unrefined. Why would anyone spend $38k+ for this? And only 19 mpg combined? This is why parking lots are full of Japanese and Korean cars. Wish American automakers would wake up...
I will take the new 2.4 turbo 4 cylinder tacoma over the new canyon and colorado 2.7 turbo. Have you seen how this motor is built. Where they put the timing chain on the back of the engine. Just worried about long term repair costs the for g.m.
How often have you had to replace a timing chain, every 30k???
The timing chain on the 2.7 L3B is on the front of the engine. The chain at the back drives the balance shafts and oil pump.
The Colorado is more reliable than the Tacoma. Do some research
@thomasfoster2 lol, I know, it's easier to regurgitate what we were told by others than to get facts and make an informed decision/comment.
Edit: NHTSA and repairpal are 2 places you can start to do research so you are better informed.....if you dare!
Wtf did you just type?@@shiftmotorsports9803
Who can afford these things? Nice truck though. Lol!
I can, but I would never buy this pile of junk
Buy a new Frontier. Better in every dept.
Junk Chevy 😅
video looks and feels like from 1980s.
Great truck that's handicapped by a mediocre engine
Don't show this SCRAP!
I would get a frontier or tacoma over this any day of the week
Looks tremendous cheap
Chevy trucks with a 4-cylinder engine and no V6 now what did you do you think like Toyota they did the same thing with the Tacoma and now there are two trucks I will never perches ever you and Toyota have lost me as a customer I will stick with my 2005 Tacoma till it or I die which ever come first. Sad days for us truck drivers I would never get a 4-cylinder ever
Never buy a American car with a turbo
STOP-SALE: Chevy Silverado and Sierra Roofs Are Splitting Apart
Story by Allison Barfield • 21h 2024 GM made trucks made by expensive Union Labor STOP SALE DANGEROUS!!!
I see absolutely nothing special about this overpriced Chevy POS 😂
The 2" factory lift is nice but no electronic rear locker is a miss. The G80 is better than nothing but I prefer to lock/unlock on command. Unfortunately I can't say its overpriced when every other mid-sized truck jumped in price too. Currently the nissan frontier pro-4x is looking like the bettter value with a naturally aspirated v6, electronic rear locker, and seems most people report good negotiating at the dealers. Its an outdated tech and platform underneath but people say they are pretty reliable.
I like it.
The problem is a more powerful Taco is coming, that is also more fuel efficient, so why get this?
Toyota is ready to steal any of the Colorado's thunder with their Class President.
GM deserves 100k sales a year. Don't expect much more.
Thanks to the UAW, buying one of these is not in the cards. Workers wanting to get paid for 40 hours but only working 32 hours?!?! Greedy.
No. Blame the CEO and executives that are making millions.

The Colorado's pretty cheap especially inside not so much outside they try to upsell the tech no LED lights no remote start or Google unless you pay for it through the app the LEDs information screen is as basic As It Gets if you bought one you got hoes or you just didn't care
Ask any GM mechanic and they will all tell you: "Run for your life away from this steaming pile of crap!" GM is currently experiencing transmission problems along the same lines Ford did back with the Focus, Escape, etc....that ended in a massive consumer lawsuit and billion dollar settlement with Ford. The trannys on these plastic garbage cans are just one of many issues that fill up the Mr. Goodwrench service bays at your local GM Stealership. You'd have to be a damn FOOL to buy one of these after reviewing real-world customer feedback and reviews.
