    Can some Murrican explain why, excluding towing and off-road use, a pickup truck is superior to a van? They have less enclosed cargo space and cargo space in general, are much bigger than vans with a similar amount of cargo space, and consume more fuel.

    • @voided3
      @voided3 Рік тому +7

      It all depends on your needs. Open truck beds are good for hauling outdoor equipment or ATVs; basically anything dirty, full of gasoline (you don't want fuel vapors in the cab with you), or taller than the cab, and since the tailgate seems to be extinct on full size SUVs here in favor of lift gates, they are better for hauling long building supplies in large quantities as the tailgate extends the load floor of the bed. You also can install a tonneau cover or fiberglass bed topper to enclose the cargo area and change its proportions. Vans and full sized 3-row SUVs are better people movers with seven or eight seats and can fit 4x8 building materials inside with the seats down typically, but a lot of pickups here are sold as five or six passenger crew cabs (the latter if you have a front bench seat). We have a full sized 1/2 ton truck primarily to tow our camper trailer, but it's a six-seater crew cab so it's also useful as a daily driver/family hauler. It's bigger and less economical compared to a minivan, for example, but it does what we need it to and it's not our only vehicle; we also have a small SUV that gets better mileage and fits in tighter parking spots.

      @@voided3 I'm not talking about a minivan, I mean something like a Ford Transit or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Those can definitely fit something like an ATV, dirt bike or sheets of plywood. Gas is alot cheaper in the US and it is one of the cheapest parts of owning a vehicle, gasoline is $3000/year while insurance and depreciation is 4-6000/year. Trucks fit people's needs better than vans do. Typically people use vans when they have a business that involves carrying around lots of small expemsive stuff like a plumber, well pump or HVAC tradesmen.
      Also towing trailers and going off road is much more common, It was last week I was using my truck to pull tree stumps out of the ground, the big tow hooks and 4wd were both in use. I frequently tow a trailer as I have a side business plasma cutting metal. I used to use my toyota avalon to tow a trailer but unfortunately the car aged out and nearly all modern sedans are not rated to tow trailers.

    Just love MotorWeek. Great video but still very disappointed with these new GM trucks even after this update.
    Roof structure above the front doors and front door frames are still way too short and odd looking, especially from a side profile. Useless wax on the frames, ugly body plugs along the underside of the rocker panels, stupid mirror placement on the front doors. Because of this, there's still an ugly black piece of triangular plastic in the corner of the window where the mirrors SHOULD be mounted. Overall styling is still ugly, better than before, but still ugly.
    Same goes for the new GM full size SUV's. In addition, their IRS lower control arms hang down WAY too low and is very unsightly when looking at them from behind. Why can't GM tuck them up nicely like other manufacturers? Dumb.
    Very beautiful interiors though, I will say that. It's the exteriors that's the problem.
    Looks like the upcoming HD Silverado is still very awkward and horrible looking. A slight improvement but not by much. Several people at work have bought one of these new gens because they're brand loyal. They've all admitted to not liking the looks of them and much prefer the previous gen. They've also not noticed the things I've mentioned until I brought it to their attention. Again, buying them due to brand loyalty and definitely not because they're a good looking vehicle...which I think is also being stubbornly dumb.

      That depends On the Trimline. If you want just the "base" models it will be lower than 50K.
      If you want the Top-Of-The-Line everything it will be over 70k

    Oh man. I think we’re in the new malaise era. Gigantic vehicles with unnecessary luxury options that take away from the actual driving, and sometimes even distract from it. 🤦🏻‍♂️
    Overcomplicate the simple things; just because. That shifter…. Makes…. Makes me… think the rams dial shifter is a, dare I say it, better idea. 🤢

    Nice looking, but GM’s poor build quality and garbage customer service sent me looking elsewhere a long time ago. Of your brand was bailed out, chances are it found itself in a bad place for good reason.

    Folks, don't be fooled, this is NOT A ROAD TEST. IT IS A COMMERCIAL MASQUERADING AS EDITORIAL. Motorweek are supplied by local dealerships under the proviso that they give good reviews. They are "flown" by manufacturers' marketing departments to racetracks and other exotic locations to test new vehicles... and you bet they are expected to provide positive coverage, otherwise that access dries up. It is "access journalism." What kind of automotive journalist calls an article a "road test" which includes NOTHING about gasoline consumption? They didn't even need to do a test themselves, they could have just looked it up on Chevy's website. But no... it's not present in the video at all. Finding out what the quarter-mile top speed is somehow important enough to make it into the video however. FYI Chevy's website says "estimated 17MPG Combined" - and that is "no payload, towing nothing." 24-gallon tank... $80+ to fill it up. Motorweek had nothing to say at all about this aspect of the truck, or the climate-warming pollution that occurs as a result.

      @@lotsofcurveslover they could measure the pollution coming out of the tailpipe! They could discuss how much it costs to fill it up with gasoline. They could discuss the range of the truck with no payload, half-payload and full payload. They could discuss the oil-change interval and how much that costs at a local Chevy dealership (perhaps, even the one that supplied the truck!). They could discuss the cost of replacing the tires - from Tire Rack!!!

    This vid is deceiving in its claim that Ford F-150 outsells the Silverado , when you combine the GMC Sierra with the Silverado ( same truck basically), the sales numbers are very close , the Ford on top by a small margin

    • @nashgover2095
      @nashgover2095 Рік тому

      Eh. I don’t know. I don’t really think it’s deceptive to say that one model outsells the other. Realty is that, even though they ride on sister platforms of tech and engineering, the Silverado and Sierra are different models.
