    Is anyone actually bothered by hard touch plastic as much as car reviewers? For an off-roader I consider it a plus. I've got an old Wrangler that's nothing but hard plastic and exposed metal...just makes it easy to clean. Still, I love that he's honest and critical in his reviews and he pulled no punches here

      it all goes down to price. If we are paying 40-45k for a mid sized truck it better has more soft stitchings than plastic..

      @@kksanthat’s not true, the money just didn’t go to materials. It’s quite possible when you have a truck that was engineered to last the money went into the body, frame, electrical system and electronics. This truck still had better software than some luxury cars that costs even mire than this. How many Acuras, Lincolns, Mazdas, Infinitis, or Lexus products have an instrument cluster that’s reconfigurable, can display your navigation/maps, and can tow what this vehicle can tow?

      @@PsychicMedium4747 The Trail Boss trim doesn't have cheap materials for what the truck is intended for. However, expectations can become elevated to a point beyond reasonability and people become spoiled or fail to understand the point. Dandy features can stay in the higher trims where people buy trucks to say they own a truck but never actually do truck stuff. The real issues are related to what should objectively be considered standard like LED lights.

    I would think durability would be preferrable when it comes to interior materials. A work truck shouldn't' have soft/easily damageable materials like leather. If you want all of that every manufacturer has a trim level that will give you what your asking for. So im not sure why anyone would expect a base level vehicle to have materials matching the higher trim levels , what would be the point in having higher trim levels if that were the case??

    • @G-Rated
      @G-Rated 9 місяців тому +2

      That’s what I said. Americans want everything to come standard in new products, boasts upscale interior materials, have the best and latest tech, and _still_ costs as much as a pack of #2 pencils. How?. That doesn’t make any sense. It doesn’t even make sense to demand better materials in an off-road focused base truck.

    • @austing4321
      @austing4321 9 місяців тому

      Cheap, hollow, rattly plastic doesn't automatically equal durability. GM has always had the worst plastic in the game, even hard touch parts on many competitors are nicer grained, less shiny, better put together, and seem to always be less "hollow". Also, I can't think of too many vehicles that don't offer a soft armrest for over 30k... Also no telescoping wheel in 2023???? Once again, a basic modern feature missing like it's a Mirage or something.

    "Looks cheap" and "disappointed that it's hard touch plastic"... I'm sorry, I thought I bought a truck.
    If you want heated seats, heated/telescoping steering wheel, "leather" seats/dash and high quality stitching, or other higher end items that have the potential to get ruined doing truck stuff, buy a car and stay on city streets or pay for a higher trim "dandy truck". The only things that are missing for what you pay for with the Trail Boss are LED lights, fog lights, a hard bed liner, and physical light switches as standard (in the event that the electronics fail). But those are nit picking items based on price of the vehicle and the expected features that should be considered standard given the current year for what the vehicle is intended for. I'd be pissed at myself if I ruined my seats and steering wheel jumping in and out of the truck after working all day.
    In the end, the Trail Boss is perfectly fine the way it is for what it is supposed to be (a truck) without the unnecessary bloat features that only add to the price, not true functionality.

    NO ONE CARES ABOUT HARD PLASTIC DASH. In fact, on a truck it would be seen as a positive. Not once in my life have I jumped into a car and started tapping the dash to see if the plastic is soft. Sure, the elbow rests should be soft, but that's because you actually come into contact with it. And I totally agree that the interior needs more color. Offer the fabric seats in blue or red or brown. Doesn't need to be leather (fake or otherwise), just some splash of color to break up the sea of black.

Plus, we aren't ruled by Brussels, we have our own clowns to worry about.
      But really, what real purpose do side signals offer that normal awareness and driving skills can't do? Don't hang out on the side of another vehicle and if the vehicle in the other lane is getting closer you can speed up, slow down, or honk to signal them that they are drifting and that you are there.

    Absolutely unacceptable. Don’t buy this truck.
    No LED lighting, no remote start, no heated seats, no smart key access, no bed lights, no advanced safety, not even a telescoping wheel…for 42k. My compact SUV has a telescoping wheel…
    I get the “simple is better” thought.. but it’s not worth 42000 dollars.

    Lol small gauges, you want bigger gauges you have to pay more.
    Halogen headlamps, you want LED, pay more.
    You want telescoping wheels, you ha to pay more. Unbelievable.
    Even arm rests have zero cushioning.
    Plastic steering wheel.
    Problematic 8-speed with Federal class action lawsuit against it.
    Stay away. Get a Tacoma.

    GM/Chevy should be ashamed of themselves for using so much cheap materials used/cost cutting measures. So much to the point it almost looks like a preproduction model. Pathetic.

    Chevy and ford cheap out on the standard features. Tacomas are standards with LEDs for example. The Colorado starts at like $49K in Canada.

      @@CMM-sv8xk what’s reliable about the brand new Tacoma? You couldn’t even tell me because it’s a brand new truck whose reliability you know nothing about. Y’all are talking out of your asses and operating solely off of brand perception. The *gm* trucks have better designs inside and out, better technology and seem to be built to outlast the new Tacoma considering materials and layout.

      That would be based upon a person’s credit score and history. Terms and conditions of a lease will be in accordance with your existing credit report.

    This trim was designed for old retired guys on a fixed income who 'still want a truck', 'don't want any of that electronic crap', can still change a lightbulb himself (but won't), can't see or hear well enough to be bothered by cheap looking plastic or rattles, and is unlikely to still be driving past the end of the powertrain warranty.
