    As a decades-long Toyota loyalist, I bought a new 2022 Nissan Frontier. Toyota ruined its truck line with crappy turbo engines, hollow build quality, cartoonish bro-dozer styling, and insane pricing. The Frontier has a naturally aspirated V6, rock-solid build quality, conservative yet handsome styling, and reasonable pricing. My loaded Frontier SV long wheel base was $39K OTD. Almost 2 years in and the Frontier has been flawless.

    Had to go by my local Toyota dealer today to get a part. Looked at a newTaco window sticker with, as expected, an addendum sticker, and a 2wd SR5 was knocking on $50k. This tells me when the $65k Trail Hunters hit the lots, they will likely be well over $70,000. Sorry, that's too much for a mid size 4cyl truck that isn't much more capable than a 1st or 2nd Gen Taco with a lift and tires. And whats with the shrinking fuel tank of only 18 gal? Why are companies afraid to improve mpgs AND give more range?

      Track testing always gives better numbers. Several reasons. One is that commonly the timer doesn't start until after a short "rollout" period, drag-strip style. Street GPS/stopwatch testing is always a little to a lot slower.

    • @GlennC789
      @GlennC789 12 днів тому

      @@uhAlphaFox That's interesting. Rare, though. Car and Driver magazine always prided themselves on getting the best results possible, for just one example. Then readers started calling them out on eliminating the rollout time, usually a couple tenths or a bit more. They copped to it, since they had no choice, but still do it. So their published results aren't actually real 0-60 times, they're more like 2-60 times. They also use tricks like traction-compound-treated strips with perfectly clean surfaces, and I think they also "correct" their times to sea-level-standard conditions, which also makes them look better than they really are since they don't test at sea level. They'll also abuse the hell out of cars to get their times and sometimes tell stories about fragged clutches and transmissions and the like. UA-cam types don't usually go to those extremes.

    • @MoparPentastar
      @MoparPentastar 11 днів тому +2

      Motortrend consistently measures lower 0-60 times than Motorweek, often by 0.5 to 1 seconds, and they clocked it at 7.2 seconds, so Motorweek's number is almost certainly a typo.

Toyota didn’t move to the I4 for MPG, they moved to it for emissions, same for the v6’s that replaced the v8’s. Toyota is pretty old school in many ways. 21mpg on a truck isn’t bad, it’s competitive compared to other rivals on the MW loop.

Probably go with the Tundra so I wouldn't care if it got scratched. It's a truck, you haul crap and it gets war wounds. Get over it. Lots of choices out there, no need to spend 60k.
