I wonder how well this would work for displaying loose 3.5" floppy disks... may have to give it a shot. If anything, I've got plenty of portable carts that need a place to live, so thanks for the tip!
I said it before and Ill say it again This channel needs more recognition Seriously the help you are giving us gamers is absolutely incredible Thanks guys!
Im actually really surprised you guys didn't mention the cassette tape displays that people have been making. they look great, just takes time and effort.
Yeah I know they were being tongue and cheek with that comment, but it irked me a bit. My response: tell that to the 8 year-old punk who tossed all his cases and manuals and only had the games when they got older and decided to sell them. An alternate reply is My Life in Gaming can donate a couple thousand $$$'s to me and I'll be more than happy to track down the missing cases and manuals I need for my DS collection. (I have about 30-ish loose DS games, the other 80 are in original cases). Still I use the official club nintendo ds cases for those games, which work perfectly. Lastly, while this is a cool option (kinda costly though @ $26 a display case, for the one I'd need), if I added GBA to that as well, it'd price me right out since I have over 90 loose GBA games as well (I'm using old GB/GBA system cases to store my games) so it looks like I'll have to build something unless a better (cheaper) alternative comes along instead.
I built my own shelf for my Gameboy games. Holds well over 100 games with each one facing out and on display, with enough room to slip your finger behind a cart and pull it out easily. Cost maybe $15 for the wood, really easy project :) I like the solution you guys came up with, it looks great!
I swear to God you guys ARE AWESOME !!!!!!!!! You all changed my life !!! I am enjoying games like never before in my life !! starting from educating me about RGB signals and Scart cables.. and how to set up my game room !!! AWESOME TIPS YOU GUYS !!! LOVE YA !!! AND GOD BLESS ! From Kuwait !!
Great shout on these nail varnish displays! Just got mine today and it works a treat and looks awesome. Now I dont have to keep stacks of loose carts piled up on my desk. Thanks!
6 years old but still useful. I was searching for hours till I ran across a reddit post that mentioned your video. Thank you so much for this simple and cheap solution for display games. I recently started collecting games since my parents didn't save any of my older ones I don't have any cases and they cost a fortune especially for gba games so this solves my issue.
Thanks for sharing this info. Previously I just had a couple of plastic boxes full of loose cartridges that I had to take down and rummage through if I wanted to play something, but this month I bought a couple of these racks and now they look quite neat on the shelf.
I use Cassette cases with custom art print outs, if you google it it is pretty easy to find many pre-made printouts, but for many you have to make your own, although with limited Photoshop experience and a blank template they are pretty easy to make. I like how all the cassette cases look stacked on a shelf, I suggest using a thicker card stock or glossed paper for the best results.
Genius! I found my own lil "hack" for my collection. I use extra large black shower caps as consoles covers :) Just be sure to get the ones that use a thick material and you are good to go. It looks 100% like purpose made covers.
Seems like a really good idea for displaying your favorite or most played games. Might just get one to put it near the TV as "What I am playing now" case, cause I hate putting empty cases back on the shelf, and don't want them getting lost under a pile of DVDs or whatever.
I recall James Rolfe using custom spine labels for his N64 collection. I think maybe that would be too small to be appealing though for Game Boy games, so your nail polish display definitely looks attractive!
This was a fantastic video. It's a shame i don't have space for these, as I have a ton of Game Boy games. Right now my CIB GB, GBC and GBA stuff is on my bookshelf, while the loose stuff is in a game boy advanced binder case. it's currently overflowing. :( My bookshelves for games are also close to max. Time to either get another bookshelf or buy a bigger house lol
+Retro Power Up yeah, it's tough as I don't really have the room for a full sized bookshelf. heck, I still have accessories and extra controllers shoved away in a box somewhere that I'd like more accessible, plus all my dads and books aren't on display either.
I built shelves for my game room. It's much more efficient than using bookshelves (and cheaper). A 6' tall shelf will perfectly fit 8 rows that easily store DVD cases, universal game cases, Genesis cases, etc. with enough room at the top for your finger to reach in and slide the game out.
That's nuts! I never knew nail polish displays could be a great alternative for displaying handheld games. Right now, I'm using just a Life-Savers tin box to hold them, and a 3rd party 3DS case holder for my DS and 3DS titles. Great find.
Nice little storage idea. I'm guessing this is also a stealth launch of Try and Dave's nail art tutorial channel? Been digging around my GB stuff recently. Found an old Clear Purple GBC in a travel case with Harvest Moon, Legend of the River King 2 and Pokemon Blue in a box I must have forgotten about. Found my old e-Reader cards for the GBA too. Did a messy quick vid about that. Have you guys thought about covering Nintendo's odd gameboy peripherals like the e-Reader and the GB Camera?
It's a cool little thing and it still boggles my mind that the data for a NES game could be stored in little barcode strips. I have a bunch of Animal Crossing cards, the Manhole Game & Watch game and Donkey Kong Jr. used to have some Pokemon cards. there was a set with Machop that made a basic little mini game where you punch rocks.
I'm just now finding this video so I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but DS cases are really good for storing GBC and GBA games. At least, the cases with a GBA slot molded into them. You have to get a little creative with a razor blade to remove the DS cart holder, but if you have just a few games to display and you want to protect they make a great option. Covers are being made by the community through thecoverproject to fit the DS cases, and you can order them in bulk off of eBay (thanks to Gamestop throwing away cases by the thousands and choosing to store the carts only, if they even have them anymore). Just size up the cover are in Publisher and take it to Office Depot and ask for #80 Xerox Gloss Text paper; it's the lightest gloss paper I could find that feels like the original DS/DVD case paper insert.
the binder seems a fantastic way. i did something similar to a CD wallet thing to keep my 70+ ps vita games. It was quite ingenious. I gotta record it one day to show off. I can fit a total of 100+ vita carts in it lol.
Something interesting about this solution is that it separates your boxed stuff from loose carts, so boxed and loose can look independently impressive. (when you don't have the box for Shantae or something...) Maybe plastic cd sleeves could work for loose inserts, so you don't have to wear down a box each time you take them out.
That's brilliant! I've been using a 3 ring binder for awhile... it works but it is 1) like you said, hidden away and 2) really annoying to reorganize such as re-sorting the games alphabetically when inserting a new game into a sleeve. I'll definitely try this out, but first I need more shelf space :D
Main word here is "small" collection. If your an actual collector, this won't work...you'd have to buy tons of these things and have a lot of room set aside for just the displays.
Take a non gba DS case (still sold on Nintendo’s site I believe) and cut a tiny bit of plastic from the top of the DS slot. Cover project covers and BAM you’re good.
Really cool! Never would have thought that would actually work. I only have a few game boy advance games so I don't have a need to pick one up soon but maybe soon if my game collection grows.
I use old music casette cases myself with removed pins (or what you call them). Then I just put them on a shelf for music cassettes. Looks sooo good with a good printed cover
+My Life in Gaming I'll have to post a video on UA-cam when it's finished. All that needs to happen is the wood stain needs to dry off. I'm actually really excited because me and my Dad did a really good job on it, it'll fit in great in my Game Room!
Never crossed my mind to do something like this! Though admittedly space is an extreme premium for my physical games, and I already put so much work into adjusting DS cases for the older portable games. Way less work though, could see myself changing to this set up in the future. It's got class.
wow, fantastic video gents. Top ideas, I've been using the card ring binders but Deffo gonna get a small nail varnish display for my favourites and rotate them through
Great tip! How about N64 games? I've been trying to think of a good way to set them up on a narrow shelf. Unfortunately these shelves would come out a little too far from the wall. One of the worst things about N64 carts is how they don't have markings on the top of the cart! EDIT: I have come back to say: I am an idiot and should try finishing the video. I have failed my family, myself, and worst of all, the internet. Sorry everyone.
For on the wall I'd consider using one of those deep frames from Ikea. Fairly sure with some thin strips of wood you can make the framework inside one to mount cartridges on the wall.
I think the Nail Polisher organizer can also help with the display of Nintendo Switch game Cartridges. Stand them just like you did with original and Game Boy Color games. I think it would fit 2 Nintendo Switch Cartridges in for Size of 1 original Game boy Cartridge. so if it holds 20 original Game Boy Games, it would hold 40 Switch game cartridges instead.
Gotta be patient on ordering these. I ordered Try's Game Boy rack and it was cracked on delivery, currently waiting for a reorder. Dave's Game Boy rack is sold out at the moment. May have to explore for other Nail Polish Table Racks.
Interesting display case. Though to be honest, when I first read the description I interpreted "display" as "displaying the games on a TV". Obviously the three options that come to mind are the GameBoy Player adapters for the SNES and GameCube and video out mods for the handhelds themselves. When are you going to do that video on getting best picture out of GameBoy games?
***** Do you plan on doing videos on the best video quality for PS2 games, Xbox games, Xbox 360 games, PSP games and Vita games? While it is most obvious to just use either component or HDMI, there are a number of ways to display the games. The PS2 games can be played on the original PS3 and selected titles are available for download on the PS4. Similarly, selected Xbox titles can be played on the Xbox 360, and certain Xbox 360 titles can be played on the Xbox One. As for handhelds, for the PSP there is a third party HDMI upscaler that not only upscales the PSP games to 720p, but also has a little zoom button that allows you to fill up the screen, and certain PSP games can be downloaded on the Vita. Actually, Vita is a very strange case when it comes to outputs. There is the KatsuKity video out mod for the handheld versions, and there's PlayStation TV microconsole which can be hacked to allow blackliated Vita games to load.
[Try4ce] Oh yes, we definitely plan to cover as many consoles as possible. I'm personally very excited to get to PSP and Vita, though I'm not sure when it will hit. We haven't particularly considered systems like Xbox 360 or PS3 since the answer is pretty obvious for the most part: use HDMI, and the rest is all about how your TV is set (which we've covered to some extent in RGB 301). We may do something with the HD systems eventually, though. Our Xbox episode is sure to include the limited backwards compatibility available on Xbox 360.
***** If you get round to a Vita episode, I'd be happy to help out. I have quite a lot of experience with the PlayStation TV and have learned a few tricks and workarounds regarding its limited compatibility. The whitelist hack even works for blacklisted digital Vita games, which can be accessible from the PS3 using VitaBlocker to avoid updating to the latest firmware.
this is a great idea, and I found one that is ~8" deep which means I can setup some floating shelves to hold my handheld games.... This is going to work great
Awesome, I've been doing the same searches off and on for awhile now. I was hoping for something like those nail polish displays but that hung on the wall (maybe just 1 or two rows) to display handhelds as well as games. Though since I've been paring down my "collection" to just what actually gets used I don't have handhelds to display anymore, just the few that actually get played. But I have extra cash to throw at these now for my games. Thanks!
I'm going for the custom perspex picture frame look with sliding front panel to access games. It will also look great as a piece of contemporary art! I quite like the stands, but as i have 531 original Game Boy carts i would need 18 of them. That would take up to much space.
You guys don't even mention The Cover Project for this? There are plenty of DS-style cases for GB/C games and it works out perfectly if some of your games are boxed while others are not (display them together).
I make my own custom little boxes for loose carts, with the actual original Boxes as templates. You can shrink them down and get a perfectly fitting little box. I print my own custom cover art on it.
+peanutismint [Try4ce] Some the music is Dave's own compositions! He composed his own music for his channel. Otherwise, the music is from Super Mario Land 2, Kirby's Block Ball, and Bionic Commando Game Boy.
The only thing missing from this solution is dust protection, and oxidation/light protection. It's not really good for the carts to be sitting in the light exposed to air because that causes yellowing, and dust collecting on the carts causes small scratches on the plastic and labels, which actually occur when you dust them off sometimes. So this display inside of a dust proof glass or acrylic case would be ideal I think.
I kind of don't think unboxed games are "my collection" rather they are what I have until I find a boxed copy. That said, I will be getting one of these for sure as many other carts and handhelds will fit. I can make a great selling display. Thanks so much for the very useful info as always :)
I actually bought a bunch of spare DS cases, the ones with the GBA insert and modified them slightly to allow original carts to fit in them. Then using The Cover Project, I get to display them on my shelf alongside my 3DS titles.
This is excellent for Gameboy carts in particular, but not too stable for the actual consoles. The individual shelves have very little room, so they stand up very straight with only a tiny lip supporting them. Good for display, but if you feel like taking a Gameboy off? Be careful or it all comes tumbling down. I've seen some wired racks for Candy boxes in retail that could maybe do the trick though. Gonna see if I can find one the right size.
Kinda surprised you guys didn't mention putting custom labels on DS cases or cassete boxes. They display alongside your other games on the shelf well and there's lots of places to get the boxarts.
Oh god I’m gonna need more space for all these cartridges... My setup of a self for SNES games, a shelf of Mega Drive fames, and 5 old suitcases full of ZX Spectrum games up in the loft is not gonna work in the future as I collect more games and consoles... Probably gonna have to resort to more shelving and those fancy binders...
I might get one of those for all my slabbed coins! I thought that part was pretty funny. People don't think twice about spending thousands on a single coin. Buying a nice display for it is no big deal.
Awesome solution. This works for Game Gear games too!
Gaming Historian OMG! IM A HUGE FAN!!! whats up!
I wonder how well this would work for displaying loose 3.5" floppy disks... may have to give it a shot. If anything, I've got plenty of portable carts that need a place to live, so thanks for the tip!
of course you found a way to use what they said for floppy disks
jk love your vids, got me to use floppy disks, 3.5 double density only though :(
I tried this, but I just ended up with a nail polish collection.

Seriously the help you are giving us gamers is absolutely incredible
Thanks guys!
Matt Delgreco well said
This channel is really great at making a seemingly mundane subject (putting things on a shelf) and making it feel cinematic and professional.
Brandon Klopp I was thinking the same thing. I thoroughly enjoyed how professional the content was presented. Subscribing now!
also really useful
I'm not an avid GameBoy collector, but I really have an appreciation for when you finally find something specific you've been searching for online.
Im actually really surprised you guys didn't mention the cassette tape displays that people have been making. they look great, just takes time and effort.
The golfball, zippo and coin collector communities are scoffing at that fact that you collect game cartridges. ;)
Ben Wilcox wrong comment
Nicholas Cabrera lol I was thinking the same exact thing
Imagine collecting video games and thinking coin collecting is obscure...
"Same goes for DS carts if you're a monster and have loose carts." Lmfao
Yeah I know they were being tongue and cheek with that comment, but it irked me a bit.
My response: tell that to the 8 year-old punk who tossed all his cases and manuals and only had the games when they got older and decided to sell them.
An alternate reply is My Life in Gaming can donate a couple thousand $$$'s to me and I'll be more than happy to track down the missing cases and manuals I need for my DS collection. (I have about 30-ish loose DS games, the other 80 are in original cases). Still I use the official club nintendo ds cases for those games, which work perfectly.

when's my execution
MLIG making acrylic display cases feel totally epic! Amazing.
My wife actually uses these. I will just take them and see if she notices.
That random kiss bit was unexpected and adorable.
yeah
I built my own shelf for my Gameboy games. Holds well over 100 games with each one facing out and on display, with enough room to slip your finger behind a cart and pull it out easily. Cost maybe $15 for the wood, really easy project :) I like the solution you guys came up with, it looks great!
i watched this without reading the "featuring" part. i was genuinely surprised. good video.
The production on these videos is very good. Keep up the good work! You guys deserve more subs.
Thank you so much for this. You have no idea how much of a problem this has been for me as an organization freak.
nail polish rack, such a great idea! those nail salons are gonna have hard time ordering a new rack now with all the gamers buying em off I bet lol
Great shout on these nail varnish displays! Just got mine today and it works a treat and looks awesome. Now I dont have to keep stacks of loose carts piled up on my desk. Thanks!
Dave made it for me, he is the MVP.
This nailpolish stand idea is genius, definetly will consider it for my cartridges lying around in drawers!
It's so fun to see Game Dave in one of your videos! Hope you guys make more collabs.
LOVE IT!!!! If I start a Gb collection, going to use this!!!
Thanks for sharing this info. Previously I just had a couple of plastic boxes full of loose cartridges that I had to take down and rummage through if I wanted to play something, but this month I bought a couple of these racks and now they look quite neat on the shelf.
I always love watching new MLIG videos and this one was especially helpful. :)
This guy would make a great voice for Woody! :D
Thanks Try and Coury! I am not a collector at all but still love the Game Boy. Definitely good ideas to show off my limited collection!
Man, I love this channel and its production work. Good stuff! That looks like the perfect solution for GB games.
Just did this for my collection, found some single wall mount sections, hung em in a row under my game box shelf, looks great
This also great for sports cards, great idea thank you for the tip!
Neo Prototype lolwut? That's unnecessarily mean.
Seems like a really good idea for displaying your favorite or most played games.
Might just get one to put it near the TV as "What I am playing now" case, cause I hate putting empty cases back on the shelf, and don't want them getting lost under a pile of DVDs or whatever.
Great ideas for smaller collections!
Very cool idea, but the binder idea is a close second. Even if they're "hidden", it's a great space-saver and it has built in protection from dust.
Yeah I could fill up a full room wall just with boxed GB games.
abid latif
That's nuts! I never knew nail polish displays could be a great alternative for displaying handheld games. Right now, I'm using just a Life-Savers tin box to hold them, and a 3rd party 3DS case holder for my DS and 3DS titles. Great find.

+Mellow Gaming [Try4ce] I wouldn't mind doing eReader sometime. I thought it was pretty fun.

What about thecoverproject.net where you can get covers for your Gameboy carts?
Dude! That is an awesome solution! Thanks for the tip! I'm looking forward to finding one I can fit on my shelf.
Thank you so much! I own a small collection of gameboy cartridges and I haven't found a good way to store them until i found this video.
Great find! Definitely getting these when I move!
Simple but brilliant as usual.
This channel needs more Game Dave.
Holy crap, this is pretty darn legit! Cool stuff!
That binder thing is a real good idea. I'll do that. Thanks guys.
I'm just now finding this video so I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but DS cases are really good for storing GBC and GBA games. At least, the cases with a GBA slot molded into them.

You guys rock I watch your channel almost every day ! keep up the good work!
Buying a deep set of shelves in addition to a bunch of the acrylic displays doesn't seem like a bad solution.
OniLink96 how big would someone’s room need to be to store circa 500 Game Boy games on those things??
If you have a large amount of Gameboy games I'd check out NESComplex's video on storing Game Boy games in cassette tape cases.
Take a non gba DS case (still sold on Nintendo’s site I believe) and cut a tiny bit of plastic from the top of the DS slot. Cover project covers and BAM you’re good.
Love that profile pic! poor Maes Hughes :(
you guys never stop amazing me with things. Ordered a few for myself, great idea
The best looking solution is definitely the Cover Project with DS Cases. Those look awesome!
Really cool! Never would have thought that would actually work. I only have a few game boy advance games so I don't have a need to pick one up soon but maybe soon if my game collection grows.
You guys are geniuses! I'll definitely do this when I start retro collecting
gameboy games are good to collect since they are cheap, but wait a while for the price bubble to crash on other console games like the nes and snes.
+Korflog666 okay, thanks
he has to wait for quite a while...
when you start? What do u mean by that? if you arent already collecting, its going to start getting even worse in a couple years with prices.
wat
Dammit guys, stop convincing me to buy things.
I use old music casette cases myself with removed pins (or what you call them). Then I just put them on a shelf for music cassettes. Looks sooo good with a good printed cover
This episode inspired me to build a shelf for my Gameboy carts with my Dad. It's turning out great!
[Try4ce] Very nice! I actually shot some footage of a nice-looking custom shelf at a local store, but didn't end up with a spot for it in the episode.
+My Life in Gaming I'll have to post a video on UA-cam when it's finished. All that needs to happen is the wood stain needs to dry off. I'm actually really excited because me and my Dad did a really good job on it, it'll fit in great in my Game Room!
Thanks for doing this! I just ordered two of them for my NGPC and GB Collections!
I'm surprised you didn't mention custom game cases and the cover project. Somebody should give them some love in the gaming community.
Never crossed my mind to do something like this! Though admittedly space is an extreme premium for my physical games, and I already put so much work into adjusting DS cases for the older portable games. Way less work though, could see myself changing to this set up in the future. It's got class.
wow, fantastic video gents. Top ideas, I've been using the card ring binders but Deffo gonna get a small nail varnish display for my favourites and rotate them through
you guys have an awesome retro gaming channel!

Wow. Seeing Dave brings back memories of "Ask A Superhero" and Dave Logs.
For on the wall I'd consider using one of those deep frames from Ikea. Fairly sure with some thin strips of wood you can make the framework inside one to mount cartridges on the wall.
Great solution for storing Handheld games. I store my handheld games in an entertainment center and in a GBA carrier case.
You could use casette tapes to to store them and print a label works too and looks pretty neat too
You read my mind! I was just looking for a solution to this problem yesterday!
Thanks! I just ordered one and I’ll have it tomorrow
Interesting display case. Though to be honest, when I first read the description I interpreted "display" as "displaying the games on a TV".
Like the idea guys - when i finally get my game room back I'll be looking into this for sure thanks for the heads up!!
Awesome idea! That simple! I definitely try this out with my wifes nail display.
I print my own custom cover art on it.
wow nice room dave. them pillows are retro too
Wow that works so satisfyingly well
Amazing video as usual. I particularly loved the chiptuney music in this episode! Is it all just from free UA-cam libraries?
+peanutismint [Try4ce] Some the music is Dave's own compositions! He composed his own music for his channel. Otherwise, the music is from Super Mario Land 2, Kirby's Block Ball, and Bionic Commando Game Boy.
***** Oh cool, thanks for the tip, and well done Dave! :-) Subscribed!
Absolutely fantastic idea!!! This is also the solution I've been looking for for my pez collection as well!
Great video and great idea! I have been looking for ages to find something decent like this thank you!!
Those display racks are really cool! I might actually buy a few to display my various Nintendo and Sega cartridges! Also, Karnov.
Have you guys seen the cassette tape case solution NESComplex did? It's beautiful and works for TurboGrafx stuff too!
I like how Dave gave Try shit for breaking into his house while Coury's probably still sitting on Dave's couch.
MOAR gamedave colabs please!!!
Looks great! Sadly I have no more space on my walls 🤣🤣🤣
I guess I have to get the card sleeves...😊🤪
