    At 74 and retired I now spend quite a few days at home. Having always loved fashion I still style my hair, put on a bit of make-up and jewellery and dress stylishly, but comfortably. I then feel ready for my day. Love your look...beautiful hair and makeup.

    I justified so much of my 2023 shopping because I bought it on Poshmark (I rarely buy anything new, just new to me). But even though I was shopping secondhand and getting really great deals, I wound up with a literal PILE of things that didn't quite work on me and couldn't be returned. Shopping in person is going to be key for me in 2024.

    • @alisonpetrie
      @alisonpetrie 9 місяців тому +1

      Totally agree with you, I did the same with eBay and got a lot of clothes that just weren't "me". Have been shopping in person this year and have been much happier!

    Christina, you are singing my song! I've shopped in thrift stores for decades. Now that I have money, and can afford to splurge, I have tried shopping retail. But I have been ruined by my years of thrifting! Retail is so ridiculously expensive it stresses me out, and the quality, even of 'designer' items, has been very disappointing. Often I end up preferring and wearing the thrifted stuff, because I have shopped according to my own style instead of the merchandiser's. I also prefer the layout of thrift stores, where clothes are sorted by item, size and even colour. It's easy to spot a find once you've developed your eye for good material.

    Getting dressed everyday is one of those tips that I just can't bring myself to do xD I don't know if it's just my family and how I personally grew up or my culture in general, but we have "at home" clothes and "outside of home" clothes. I generally can't bring myself to wear my "outside of home" clothes at home. I did try it during the quarantines when working from home but it didn't feel good. As soon as I come home from work or whatever, I change. The only time I wear my "outside of home" clothes at home is if I have guests.

    • @Christinamychas
      @Christinamychas  10 місяців тому +5

      I find this too - but for example you can incorporate a couple of pants that feel like sweats, leggings or track pants but feel more elevated, or throw on a button up with at home bottoms etc. it’s what I do to get use out of my clothes, but still feel a *touch* more chic!

    • @glamdragon
      @glamdragon 10 місяців тому +6

      Same in my family - "at home" clothes and "outside of home" clothes. 😅 I've been wrestling with this since I started working from home a few years ago. I feel unprofessional in what I wear at home, but at the same time it feels like "a waste" wearing my "good clothes" at home. 🙄

    Your tip to get dressed everyday is one I am going to implement right away. I love clothes but work from home. It hasn’t felt worth the effort to dress in anything other than workout wear. BUT I am worth making the effort for. Long time follower. Love your content!

    For me, my big wardrobe expenses in 2024 will be getting shoes reheeled/resoled and some of my late mom's beautiful rings resized so I can comfortably wear them. It won't be a cheap endeavour but taking care of what we already own matters so much.

    I had a expensive turtleneck jumper. The turtleneck was a bit too tight, I had the neck part removed (made it into a head piece) and now I wear the jumper as a crew. It was the best money I spent. Thanks Christina x

    Watching your videos has helped me declutter a TON of unnecessary things from my closet & my home. I realized several months ago that I had a shopping addiction, and started looking for ways to overcome that on UA-cam. I started journaling and keeping track of all my spending in addition to decluttering a little at a time. Since Thanksgiving, I have taken three garbage bags full of clothing and accessories from my home and donated an entire suitcase full of clothing to some of my students who were in need.
    I have since moved on to decluttering every closet, room, and cabinet in my house. It is relieving so much anxiety because I no longer have to worry about all of this stuff and can focus more on experiences to have with my family in the future. Thank you and happy new year! 2024 is going to be amazing .

    My first thing I did this year was to declutter and get rid of the things that didn't fit. My second thing to do was to go shopping and buy two pairs of pants that did. My third thing was to buy one pair of comfy shoes to replace the 8 uncomfy ones I also put in the give away pile.

    Maybe it's old fashioned, but my mother (an excellent seamstress) taught me how to hem pants which saved tons of $ in tailoring. I still hate sewing but somehow love to hem pants that are too long. It's simple and empowering. Love your videos and advice.

    This video showed up in my recommendations at just the right time. Last year I went into debt buying clothes. I definitely need to learn to be more creative with what I have. Right now, I hate my hair. Next week I'm getting a haircut. For me, my hair and makeup make a statement and my clothes are pretty basic. I use accessories to add interest. When I don't like my hair or my makeup, I feel like I've lost my MOJO and I don't feel like getting dressed.

I enjoy it and get incredible quality items at great prices and it's good for our planet. You have the cutes profile :) Keep the videos coming.

    I retired a couple of years ago and worked from home for 2 years before that. I never fell into the sweatpant/loungewear habit, but I did find myself wearing leggings 90% of the time in the winter. Recently it has been fun to try to elevate those with riding boots, silk shirts, longer sweaters and cardigans - like you said - working with what you have. It is true - it is better than accumulating more things.

    In 2024 I am really trying to focus on trying out new outfits by shopping my closet. Your channel and a few others have inspired this and so far it is going great. I even realized one of my favorite recent outfits was almost identical to an outfit I pinned on Pinterest a couple years ago. I got so many compliments! I did buy a new pair of Chelsea boots to replace a favorite pair and update the style a bit but I am loving this fresh take on style.

    Get dressed every day. I learned this as a freelance court reporter in the '80s and '90s. If I stayed home and tried to work on my transcripts in casual clothes, I treated it, and everyone else in the house treated it like I wasn't at work. But if I "dressed up" to "go to work" in my corner-of-the-dining-room office, I expected myself to work, and so did everyone else. These days on the weekends I get dressed to go to the coffee shop and write a couple of hours every weekend day. Sometimes I dress *better* to go to the coffee shop than I do to go to work. I work at a community college, where the norm is jeans and tee-shirts, a lot of times -- "golf wear." I try not to let myself do that, though. Get a lot of compliments on my style, especially from the younger crowd, students and staff alike.

    I find that looking your best is as much about doing your hair and makeup as it is about nice clothes! Jeans and a t-shirt looks great with pretty makeup and well groomed hair and some accessories like sunglasses and earrings. When my hair is a mess, nothing I wear looks great! You look beautiful in this video, yet your top is simple. Your hair, makeup and jewelry just make you look outstanding. Perhaps the power of makeup and hair could be an upcoming video idea.

    Great ideas. In 2023 I only allowed 12 new items max. I enjoyed shopping my closet and decluttering and phasing out items along the way. I plan to carry that through 2024. I also grade my outfits. Like when I grab something to wear to work, do I love it? Is it meh? Do I want to wear it again? How could I style each piece differently?

    Last year was the year I’ve improved my style the most. Here are my learnings:
    - learn doing your hair (check out the blowout professor), nails and makeup, all minimal and classy
    - accessories elevate your outfit, its like the salt and pepper of style
    - find some nice fragrances
    - don’t take “rules” too seriously. It might help you in the beginning but they are just loose guidelines and also subjective
    - quality > quantity (and it is impossible to find quality nowadays)
    - learn how to thrift on vinted

    I also work from home now (new for me) and thanks to you and some other UA-cam creators I am figuring out ways to mix my "corporate wear" like blazers and trousers with more casual pieces -- I spent a lot of money per item on my dressy work clothes, I want to use them. Some of my favorite clothes are thrifted (like my cashmere coat), although it takes patience and I am petite which often makes it easier to thrift vintage. I've also put a month-long ban in place on wearing and re-wearing "favorite" pants and sweaters so I have to try something else in my closet!

I'm really struggling to let go of my work clothes that no longer fit me or even suit my life now that I'm retired. I love the idea of using what you have! A couple of years ago, coming out of the pandemic I knew my closet needed a good clear out but didn’t know where to start it was such a mammoth project. I hired a colour analysis professional to come and analyse my skin tone and we discussed style and what I wanted to wear going forward. It was amazing to have “permission” to get rid of clothes which I wasn’t wearing (because they weren’t my style anymore or not a good colour). I was left with a wonderful capsule wardrobe with only a couple of holes that I needed to fill to not run out of clothes mid week.

    Great list! Loved your workout session b-roll footage too. Video request: how to thrift safely in the age of bedbugs (and other parasites). I have been an avid thrifter for so long, but the risk of bugs has really made me skittish. I know I am not alone in this!

    I discovered on Friday, when I reached for my beloved black double-breasted oversized camel hair blazer, that a hole is developing in the left elbow! Oh no! I hopped onto UA-cam over the weekend, found an interesting video about how to embroider holes and make them into artwork, ordered some black cashmere yarn, so next weekend I'm going to be going back to that video and learning how to embroider the hole so it looks intentionally and invisibly fabulous. Otherwise the blazer is in perfect condition, I love it, it fits me great, and I don't want to let it go. I thought about a black suede set of elbow patches, but no, I think I'll give the black-on-black embroidery idea a shot first. Maybe I'll embroider both elbows, just for balance; maybe not! I'm not sure why, but I seem to be really rough on my left elbow.

    Great video!
    I think I want to implement dressing according to my measurements ( that’s a big one.. as my sizing differs per season, exercise routines, and new menopausal symptoms im experiencing in my 40’s, sizing is always a triggering thing for me as I have always struggled with) and shopping more in person than online such as thrifting.
    Do you have any tips for thrifting in the suburbs? I live 30 minutes away from from most trendy Montreal thrift stores)
