I’ve actually noticed in the BFG edition they nerfed some of the guns for no apparent good reason. Honestly, I prefer the original over BFG edition in many ways as it was just overall better.
Betruger does not set up the candles, his minions do. There is a "work email" in the game where he tells them how to properly set up rituals and how the candles should be arranged. I like to imagine that the commandos are specifically responsible for candle duty.

I still think its amazing and now it's a basic mechanic in many first person games. between this game and Half-life 2, they both raised the standard for shooters moving forward and changed gaming forever.
One minor technical thing that was years ahead of its time: the intro cutscene does a trick where the camera zooms out into a room where someone is watching a monitor, almost like the viewer was pulled out of the screen. The monitor by itself is as high-resolution as the game, and much more so than the surrounding textures. That kind of “picture-in-picture” rendering, even for an in-engine cutscene, was simply not possible on other game engines.

The best advice I received for this game was from the Australian Victoria video “Thingle Toodle - Stop, look, listen, think.” 1. Stop before you cross take care - before entering a room it is important to stop and ready yourself with the best situational weapon to face demons in the room. 2. Look right left, everywhere - demons love to hide in corners of the room, especially in places where they can summon outside of your perspective. Make note of covers, corners and especially double check if demons have a likely spot to summon right behind you when entering/re-entering a room. 3 Listen, Is the traffic clear? - make sure to keep an ear out for the sound of demon’s portal to hell opening or for the sound of a demon moving within the room. You will often hear them before you see them, so stay alert for you are never alone. 4. Think we’re safe, stay aware - once the immediate threat has been dealt with, know that you are never truely safe. If you have not proceeded throughout the entire room, stay aware. Demons wait for you to lower your guard and attack you when you pass back through an empty room or a room you had previously combated in. Never rush in, stay aware. And that guide helped me through veteran difficulty and all of the DLC, making short work of sneaky devils and ambushing soldiers. Thank you Transport Victoria for guiding me through hell.

I'm one of (seemingly) very few people that actually doesn't like the duct tape mod or the armor flashlight in BFG edition... I actually liked how you had to choose between sight and safety.
The "Weapons of Mars Destruction" mod for the PC version of Doom 3 breathes new life into this already 20 year old game. I can't see myself playing this game without that mod. The pistol, for example, goes from being the crappiest weapon to one of the weapons you'll love to use. This version of Doom continues to be my absolute favorite in the entire franchise. No superhuman hero, just a pure hearted soldier with incredible courage overcoming impossible odds.
Not what I was expecting from this game... so glad to see it through your playthrough. Looks way more difficult than the new Doom games (game mechanics wise). And Happy belated birthday pimp!

This is my favorite Doom, I played it the most. I like all the other ones, but this one was the first one I spent so many hours in. I finished 1 and 2 after this one, and I agree it feels like a different franchise sometimes, but I've got nothing but love for the OG Doom 3 (moreso than BFG Edition).
man i used to play this as a kid, kid me was creeped out by the atmosphere and darkness in the game. Loved the whole flashlight being separate from your guns thing xD
I have such a distinct memory of that blade cube thing you fling at enemies. My 14 year old self effing loved that thing. I still love it, but I did then too
I was lucky enough to play this on original xbox first, and loved my time with it as a kid. it was so cool and i loved needing to risk being able to see with defending myself. I also dont mind playing whack-a-mole I like the shotgun :p
I absolutely love the obscenely dark atmosphere in Doom 3. Never really liked the newer iterations of the game, but this one was fresh with the slow pacing, Event Horizon / Hellraiser esque tension and claustrophobic environments right in the game's release and still haven't gotten stale after all these years.
Doom 3 is such a classic, i remember playing it on the very first Xbox in 2004ish that game scared the shit outta me cause i was around 13, 14 yrs old. I hope they do another Doom game like Doom 3. Like less action an more horror!
15:05 that is something Doom 2016 did really well by adding the hell cult. "Why are there candles and pentagrams in the lab?" "We are have blood sacrifices in our promotion policies"

I love this game. Had a hard time accepting it on release, being a stickler and all. But I came around eventually. Your take on the shotgun is spot-on.
Oh man, what a trip down a memory lane. Doom 3 was one of my first big PC games (the real first being Quake 2 on an old Pentium 2 PC). The graphics blew me away back then, and oh boy was I scared to play Hell levels. I also liked to play most of the game with the shotgun simply because the marine was with it in all the cutscenes. Yeah, I was weird like that.. still am sometimes.. P.S. Happy late birthday, mate!
Doom 3 and resurrection of evil are my favorite Doom games I played them as a kid and it was terrifying, my TV was terrible so I could only see the game in black and white making the dark areas a real pain I love this game.
The Shotgun in Doom3 promises so much. The sound, the meat, the punch, the kick. It's visceral. Usually, you also just PLASTER the thing you hit with it first time into a red, fine mist. But then you try to use it on the regular and the anemic fire rate, the 6 business days of reloading, the hilariously terrible accuracy....nah man.

Happy birthday!!🎉 🎂
man i used to play this as a kid, kid me was creeped out by the atmosphere and darkness in the game. Loved the whole flashlight being separate from your guns thing xD
and then they changed it with the expansion so your flashlight was just always out, changed the whole atmosphere and tension in the game.
Yeah I loved the switch between weapon and flashlight too. It created great atmosphere. Glad I still have the original CD
@@myztklk3v Yeah, that's the reason I didn't like the BFG edition. I don't like the duct tape mods.
Fantastic use of Guilty Gear music in this one!
Also Happy Birthday brother, hope you had a great one. 🎉
It's freakin' spooky lately
I have such a distinct memory of that blade cube thing you fling at enemies. My 14 year old self effing loved that thing. I still love it, but I did then too
I was lucky enough to play this on original xbox first, and loved my time with it as a kid. it was so cool and i loved needing to risk being able to see with defending myself. I also dont mind playing whack-a-mole I like the shotgun :p
Damn, I wanted to see the comedy bit with the skeleton
I absolutely love the obscenely dark atmosphere in Doom 3. Never really liked the newer iterations of the game, but this one was fresh with the slow pacing, Event Horizon / Hellraiser esque tension and claustrophobic environments right in the game's release and still haven't gotten stale after all these years.
Gotta say, I never ever expected to hear "Let me carve your way" in a Indiemaus video
I’m actually hype for a Final Destination tier list.
Doom 3 is such a classic, i remember playing it on the very first Xbox in 2004ish that game scared the shit outta me cause i was around 13, 14 yrs old. I hope they do another Doom game like Doom 3. Like less action an more horror!
Crazy i was just looking for a Indiemaus video and heres a fresh one
This shocktober has been games that I haven’t played yet, so I keep setting them to my “watch later” playlist. Commenting for the algorithm
Please bring back that shirt design where you’re sitting in the middle with the horror game characters. I’ll buy 10
imagine indeimaus starting of shocktober with a banger like DOOM3, I just love this guy, give him a price allready
15:05 that is something Doom 2016 did really well by adding the hell cult.
"Why are there candles and pentagrams in the lab?"
"We are have blood sacrifices in our promotion policies"
I've been really busy recently so I haven't been able to keep up with my usual 900 hours of indeimaus a day but you bet your ASS im watching every shocktober video
Best plasma gun ever, hands down. The PEWPEWPEW and the *clink* zzzzzRRRRR reload. Perfection.
The scariest and most fun doom i've played.
Doom 3 and resurrection of evil are my favorite Doom games I played them as a kid and it was terrifying, my TV was terrible so I could only see the game in black and white making the dark areas a real pain I love this game.
17:08 no wonder i was so confused i was like wtf your game bright as hell
16:47 That really made me laugh
I know, I’m late but happy shocktober.
It’s cool to see you play games you bring up so much in your videos.
I am absolutely not missing your merch this year.
The sound design on the shotgun is impeccable. Top tier.
If only IT FUCKING WORKED.
Happy Birthday, Indiemaus! And Happy Shocktober
Heavily underrated Doom game, Man I love it
The Shotgun in Doom3 promises so much. The sound, the meat, the punch, the kick. It's visceral. Usually, you also just PLASTER the thing you hit with it first time into a red, fine mist.
But then you try to use it on the regular and the anemic fire rate, the 6 business days of reloading, the hilariously terrible accuracy....nah man.
skill issue.
@@Razumen I debated for the longest time if I would even reply to this obvious piece of parroted flamebait, but it might just be that you think you're being genuinely funny and let me inform you that:
Parroting Internet buzzwords will never make you funny. It might, at best, elicit a chuckle among your perpetually online friends, but everyone else will just cringe, shake their head and go about their day.
I hope you find it in yourself to develop your own sense of humor some day. Or the manners to realize that nobody asked for your opinion and your unsolicited "hurr durr funny" comment is, at best, rude and unnecessary.
@@TheOnlyToblin That's a lot of words when you could just git gud.
@@Razumen Thank you for acknowledging that you're just a troll looking for a rise. Perhaps, you too, will grow up one day.
@TheOnlyToblin hes not wrong I think you must have suffered with a skill issue. Shotgun was powerful when you use the sprint efficiently. Real up close and personal.
had to skip the first shocktober video this year since id like to play sh1 blind myself one day, but this spooky circus and clown sallie theme is great brother
The only times I used the shotgun is when I had no other choice or when I knew where enemy spawns were. Since you can shoot the teleport effect before the enemy model pops in and kill them.
really like new shocktober intro been hoping you would play doom 3 for an age :P
