    Badd Medicine here and its reaction time
    A Quiet Place (2018) is a gripping horror-thriller directed by John Krasinski. Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by blind extraterrestrial creatures with hypersensitive hearing, the film follows the Abbott family-Lee (played by John Krasinski), Evelyn (played by Emily Blunt), and their children-struggling to survive in silence.
    The family communicates through sign language to avoid attracting the creatures, who hunt by sound. They meticulously navigate their soundproofed surroundings, using sand pathways and colored lights to signal safety or danger. They've also adapted to a life of quiet survival, with Lee tirelessly working on hearing aids for their deaf daughter Regan (played by Millicent Simmonds).

      Yes I saw this in theater and it was beyond quiet. Don't think it was intentional, but it's like every one just got quieter as movie progressed & every actual sound made u jump cause sound in a theater is not at all like watching on TV at home. I've watched at home & it's crazy cause in the theater I was so immersed. I know I held my breath during few scenes, but not while watching it at home. Loved the unique concept, sound design, & tone of this movie!!!Love yalls reaction!!❤💞❤️

      And why was the kid that hot eaten last in the line. One parent should lead and the other follow up the rear. Not the youngest kid. Another of the plot holes.
      When talking about the creatures, if they are aliens, how did they get here and is that why they apparently won?
      I own, but haven't seen the second film yet.
      Apparently, two more films are coming, a prequel called Day One this summer and Part three next year.

      He also co-wrote the screenplay and was one of the producers. He didn’t list himself as a producer, instead he listed Sunday Night Productions. He is a chairman, founder, and the CEO of that company. He likes to hide his name, and not take credit for his accomplishments. This film though, he deserves everything for. He even chose the locations, bought the house, had the Silo built and corn planted. He wanted everything to be a NY country town look, and that is EXACTLY what he achieved.

    The reason the dad left the daughter behind but instead took the boy to the river and the waterfall I think is because he wanted it to be a surprise once he figured out a device that would work and let her hear to appreciate being able to talk without fear. But given that the daughter can’t hear, it would only make her even more sad that even in a safe place she wouldn’t be able to finally hear each others voices but they could. Which would also explain why he wouldn’t let her into his work station, so that he could surprise her on all the work he’s done for her.

    The basement workshop was full of electronic equipment and a ham radio. Lots of things for a kid to accidently make noise with. I would assume that none of the kids were allowed to go down there, and the parents would be even more paranoid and cautious after the youngest son was killed. The biggest reason for bringing the kids on the supply run is in your own points I think. "You can't take your eyes off the kids for 6 mins"
    Exactly, imagine leaving'em at home for what's probably at least a whole hour. Plus, more backpacks means more supplies being carried home.
    I think the bigger plot hole in that situation is; Why was the youngest not walking ahead of Mom and/or Dad, instead of being LAST in line?

    • @lurategh
      @lurategh 2 місяці тому +5

    • @shania991
      @shania991 2 місяці тому +9

      Stop using the phrase plot hole when you don’t actually know what it means him not walking in the middle isn’t remotely a “plot hole” a plot hole is a error or inconsistency 😂 which isn’t what that scene was it actually quit literally added to the plot of the movie. It’s how the MOVIE was written the whole point was this family not only trying to survive but going through grief because of this horrible thing and work through it you literally get to see the different stages of grief, guilt, denial, and blame that’s why he wasn’t in the middle they kinda needed him to die for idk add to the plot of the movie. 🤦🏾‍♀️

    • @jijitters
      @jijitters 2 місяці тому +9

      This is not a plot hole. This was something written intentionally to happen this way for the sake of the plot and in line with how these characters are presented to us through their mistakes and the responses to them. Characters acting in a way that is reflective of them as people, differently from how you'd act/react, is not a plot hole. As the oldest child the daughter would probably be the one at the back to protect her younger siblings in front of her, but because she's deaf she *can't* be at the back, as it puts her in the most danger. That scene and the mistakes that occurred were there to show us all of this at once - how she was trying to be a good big sister, but was still unable to protect him because of her inability to hear the danger. It showed us how much she cares but how she is both in more danger and has less power to protect the others so she is not able to be as useful as she very badly wants to be.

    I haven't seen this movie but gotta say I think its brilliant that the surviving family has a deaf child. They were able to outlast most humans because they could communicate silently because of this child, but could hear themselves in order to make sure they weren't making noise (something deaf people alone would fail at). It needed the mix of hearing and non-hearing to make for a perfect survival situation.

    They had no choice but to bring the children. One of them was sick (in desperate need of antibiotics, hence the reason they made the trip). One of them was deaf with a hearing aid on the fritz. One of them too young to understand the gravity of the situation (as proven when he was killed by the alien for making noise).
    Not sure why one of the parents couldn't stay back at the house with the children though unless of course if the one who goes doesn't make it the living parent is still in the same position. ? 🤷‍♀️

    3:42 The only "critique" I have of this movie is the logic in that opening scene of leaving your TODDLER to walk alone at the back of the line. I'd expect at least one parent at the front, one at the back, kids in the middle. Why the hell you letting the youngest, least trustworthy, bringing up the rear, behind his deaf sister no less?? It's an emotionally devastating shocker of a scene, but also kinda contrived way of offing the kid because no rational parent would do that. Especially not in this hellish world.
    Otherwise, amazing solid movie! Really was special watching in cinema where everyone unconsciously slipped into silence as well. Every now and then there'd be an unexpected sound of someone trying to stealthily open a bag of chips, or a cough, and we'd all jump and laugh nervously.

    Here are my thoughts.
    1) the reason they took their child to the store: We saw the parents carrying a large backpack, perhaps previously they were on a moving who was an attempt to find a new place or look for a refugee camp but were unsuccessful and coincidentally the boy was sick on the way. so they stopped by the store. Or after almost 3 months of the attack. They still weren't used to be apart in this apocalypse. And later after the youngest died, they're learn and trying their best to adapt.
    2) The father does not allow the daughter to go down to his workplace: there are lots of equipment that can make noise there, this is the father's protective attitude towards his daughter who is deaf. And he also tries not to put the burden of his research on the daughter.
    3) the military should be able to defeat the aliens: these aliens have an full body armor that is strongest than any material on earth. So no any caliber can penetrate their armor. Plus the slightest sound can attract these fast aliens, it's impossible to start an Apache etc without being destroyed first at the moment of starting the engine. And there were more of them in crowded areas, so perhaps the military center was the first to fall that day too. The helmet opened when the aliens increased their hearing power, while at the time of the attack, everyone panicked causing a lot of noise which made it easier for the aliens to track without opening the helmet. And at that time no one knew the mechanics of this alien's body. Plus vital tools such as communication media also collapsed instantly.
    4) live near a river with a waterfall: that makes sense. But maybe they didn't find the perfect house right near the river. Long journey to find it is risky too. And it's also not good to stay in a tent near a humid waterfall river for a long time. Not to mention thinking about the risk of big flooding.
    5) having a baby in apocalypse world: it was against their will. Aren't there many examples like that in this world? Moreover, you can't even open the condom wrapper or at least take it out from the display place or the box lol.
    Well that's my best shop. Hope it can answer the plot hole

      i would add about having a baby: even if they were using protection, that's not a 100% guarantee that you won't conceive. accidents happen all the time 🤷

    • @Skotavus
      @Skotavus 2 місяці тому +2

      Speaking about point #3 - the communications media clearly didn't collapse immediately, since there are newspaper articles describing the fact that the monsters hunt by sound; so there was enough time for printing presses (famously loud machines) to be active and distribute that information.
      Also, with modern police armaments, there does exist the concept of 'sonic weapons' like the Long-Range Acoustic Devices (LRAD) - so it would have to be a bit of a contrivance that all the police/military were unable to use that kind of weaponry against monsters with known acoustic hunting skills.
      Pretty much in agreement with all of Badd Medicine here - we can nitpick the movie universe all day long and find things to question, but the actual product delivered is a very high-quality and engaging movie.

      2) i feel like people assume deaf people are quiet when it’s the opposite. because they can’t hear, they end up being loud because their either don’t know what makes noise or they don’t care because it doesn’t bother them (ex someone’s deaf dad would mow the lawn early morning or there was someone who hummed a lot because they didn’t know other people could hear them)
      so in addition to being overprotective, she would probably make noise with all the equipment without realizing

    Love this film series ... I feel like the explanation for the opening of the film where the whole family are going on the supply run together is down to the parent's not wanting to leave the kids behind on their own ... It was only a few months into the 'creatures initial invasion' and everyone has taken off into the wilderness away from the potentially dangerous cities and are now all essentially fending for themselves rather than grouping up ...
    The family unit were still getting used to the new way of living, but under normal circumstances, the elder son might have been trusted to take care of things at their chosen camp but as he was sick and his older sister was deaf and hence: ill equipped to deal with a situation where staying quiet would be more challenging, and since the priority was to find medication for the son, they decided to bring everyone along for the ride ...
    Regan at the time may have very well understood the situation: That staying quiet was essential to their safety, but as a deaf person with a different mindset, she might not have considered or thought it to be a problem when, in a moment of blind kindness, she foolishly returned the toy space ship to Beau in the store ... And because of this mistake, she spends the rest of the film blaming herself for his death ...
    This is the reason why she continues to be upset more than a year later, pushing against her fathers efforts to put together a working hearing aid for her, angry for her mistake and feeling like she was dependent on a device that they'd most likely never be able to acquire ... And even if they did, it was too late to save Beau ... Her father loved her, there's no question of that, but in the world they lived in now, her disability was dangerous and so he maintained a wariness to give her responsibility as he felt he couldn't entirely trust her ... That mistrust pushed her into rebelling.
    I also think that the mentality you discussed about 'kids being kids and making stupid mistakes in everyday life' is valid to a point ... In the real world ... But the setting depicted here ... This NEW world they have to live in ... Its something they'd have to seriously make some very quick changes in the way they teach their kids and in how much freedom they're given ... Stupid mistakes are no longer a 'roll your eyes and quip 'Kids! What are they like?' type of situation ... Now, those stupid mistakes get you killed in a few seconds flat ... You gotta change with the situation of the world you're in.

    At the beginning for the supply run it had only been less than a few months, maybe things weren't set up at the farm yet? At that point are you going somewhere without your family or are you taking them with you and not leaving them unprotected. The end of the movie they had learned more about what they could and couldn't do and how much noise they could safely make.
    As for not letting her into his workshop, there's so much stuff down there that makes noise that a non-hearing person wouldn't realize. I remember watching a video of someone getting an implant turned on and starting to cry when she realized that just taking a kleenex out of a box makes a noise.

But I remember seeing this one guy trying to open a bag of chips and having to put it under his jacket to not make any noise while looking around everywhere to see if anyone was looking at him, the girl next to me doing that slow trying-to-hold-it-in kind of cough, I was opening my soda bottle really slowly too, and seeing the silhouettes of everyone doing a little jump at once at the racoon part and then many small quiet laughs. A really smart choice for this movie was that they cast an actual deaf actor to play a deaf character. Millicent Simmonds who plays Regan, the daughter, is deaf in real life. Being disabled myself, this movie series has a special place in my heart because most of the time movie producers hire non-disabled actors to play disabled characters. But Simmonds has turned out to be an excellent actor, and with "The Quiet Place" movie series being such a hit, she's opened up opportunities for other aspiring disabled actors to be cast for movies as well, proving that having a disability does not mean you cannot act.

    This was perhaps THE most unique theatre experience I've ever had. Took me forever to eat my popcorn since I didn't want to crunch/make noise, and everyone was dead silent. I felt like I could properly breathe only in the loud parts.

    The theater experience for this one was crazy. So quiet, and so immersive. No one wanted to make a sound, even eating popcorn. And when Emily put the earbuds in her husband's ear, and suddenly the whole theater was filled with music, it's like we all took a deep sigh of relaxation for just a minute.
