Bruce has talked in interviews how the gestures and stage antics, as well as projecting his voice are all part of tring to make those in the back of the house feel like they're much closer
Talking about the energy of the band. At 62 years old Bruce Dickinson is the baby in the group. It’s insane… I don’t think I had that much energy at 20..
Love the band, love the song but hadnt seen this performance. Nice to see you catching the finer points... They are woth adding a few songs to the playlists...
Steve Harris: bass, founder, main writer, band leader. Bruce Dickinson: vocals Adrian Smith: lead guitar Jannick Gers: lead guitar Dave Murray: lead guitar Nicko McBraib: drums The band had always had twin lead guitars. About twenty to twenty-five years ago, Bruce and Adrian left, wanting to pursue their own course. The band hired a new singer and Jannick Gers. When Bruce and Adrian came back, they didn't want to let go of Jannick, so Steve (I'm guessing it must have been him) basically said: "No problem. I'll just change the arrangement of EVERY SONG i'VE EVER WRITTEN to include a third guitar." Crazy to think about!
Go down the Iron Maiden rabbit hole. This is my first time watching your videos so I don’t know much but go watch or even just listen to some older stuff. The music you grew up on got their roots from the 70s and 80s musicians that I grew up on. No auto tunes no special equipment and yes watching them interact with each other is very enjoyable. They always look like they are having a blast.
“Dance of Death” from the live recording called “En Vivo” is a huge song. Super dramatic. Great story telling through the lyrics and through the instruments.
The thing that amazes me about Bruce Dickinson is that the guitars don't drowned his voice out and you can still hear him over the guitar playing which is phenomenal
Very nice observations on the band. Bruce said when they started playing large arenas, he realized they needed to be active, animated and "larger than life" in order for the whole crowd to stay engaged. If you're a sucker for crowd engagement, any live metal concert from Bueno Aires, Argentina will hit. Those fans sing along to the guitar solos. No joke.
You Really Need to Go To Iron Maiden Live. Seen them Last Thursday Sept. 15, 2022 I waited since I was 13 to see them Live. I'm 53 Now! Greatest Concert and Band On Earth! Felt Like I was At a Great Metal Family Reunion! BOK Center in Tulsa ok. Go Experience For Yourself!!!
I was fortunate enough to watch this tour live twice, the first show here in São Paulo, Brazil, a rain storm ruined the fireworks and a lot of stuff from the stage so they promised they'd be back the next year to do justice to their concert. They kept their promise and came back, the ticket prices were cheaper and ironically once again a rain storm hit us, because of that there were over 20k people outside at the moment the band was supposed to go on stage, then their manager showed up and said they were gonna wait until everybody was in because it was unfair to start it knowing so many people had trouble reaching the venue. Then they delivered the show of our lives. Every band should take note from Iron Maiden about how to keep the fans happy and coming back.
I was in Paris Bercy during the 2008 somewhere back in time tour , it was incredible to say the least! Maiden playing the tour we all were waiting for!
Homework from now on is to listen to every Maiden song. Loved your analysis, nice to hear someone who knows what they are talking about and convey that to a audience. New subscriber now looking forward to future Maiden reactions.

Thank you ! Appreciate learning about Iron Maiden - this phenomenal trailblazing English band that has influenced so very many metal bands in their 40 plus years of existence. So awe inspiring! After listening to Hallowed Be Thy Name and delving into the lyrics (loved it), I just had to do a bit more research. Learning that Steve Harris wrote such incredibly academic yet grounded lyrics based on historical events (Run to the Hills, Alexander the Great) and literature (Charge of the Light Brigade was a fave of my father and grandfather which was the inspiration for The Trooper). Then discovering that they have a song titled Phantom of the Opera - that just called to me. Saw a video of Iron Maiden playing at a festival and the aerial view of the endless sea of fans was breathtaking. The band has received countless awards including honorary doctorates ! What blew my mind is that they have hardly gotten radio play and mainstream support yet their achievements / album sales / recognition / influence on other artists (eg Metallica) but not limited to heavy metal artists are legendary. 47 years since Steve Harris formed the group in 1975 and still going strong! Wow ! How wonderful to learn new things every day! Thank you!
So you probably didn't notice Bruce was flying the tour jet at the very first seconds of the vide.He is skilled pilot and also flew the Ed Force one a 747 from show to show when he was able to get enough rest by law.
Just saw them the day you uploaded this video and even after going through cancer Bruce still dominates. Of course aging is evident but I would never hold that against him or the band because they've been doing it longer than most bands and at a super high-level. Throw on top of that the amazing stage production and theatrics and you have yourself an unbeatable show.
They ENJOY themselves so much live! They act like 16 yr Olds. They love interacting with the crowd, cranking out the level of loud noise not available elsewhere.
Just passing by. To help address a few of your questions, the bassist is Steve Harris, the founder and leader of the band. Certainly not underrated though, he's essentially a God among heavy metal musicians and certainly bass players. As for crowd interaction, Bruce is unmatched. The term "scream for me" has been part of the Iron Maiden lexicon for decades now and every fan knows what it means. He knows exactly how to exaggerate his theatrics and sing to the back of the stadium to bring them closer. The band, especially Steve Harris, have been deeply influenced by prog rock in their formative years. Part of the uniqueness of their music is based on the bass player having created their "sound" originally and written the bulk of their music, from the perspective of the bass guitar which is why bass is such a presence in their music. Bruce is able to maintain his vocal strength throughout a concert because he's conditioned himself over the decades and is well aware of what he's in for. Also, he's very athletic, having been heavily involved with soccer and fencing all of his career, so his conditioning and endurance remains unreal given that he's almost 65 now (he was 50 on this tour). The shot of the jet landing at the start of the clip was Bruce in the cockpit. I was at this concert featured in this clip.
Watching Bruce on stage always made me think of a hyper child with the energy he exudes. He is and always shall be the king of frontmen! And that voice! This video honestly doesn’t do his voice justice. It’s even more amazing than you could possibly imagine!
You really have to see them live to appreciate what they do. My first time was 1983, my last one was 2019, and both were just amazing. The energy they have while being in their 60's is unmatched.
I think iron maidens drummer is under rated, especially because a lot of people don't know how that he was one of the only metal drummers to just a single pedal on the kick drum.
One thing that I haven't really seen acknowledged is that this is an end-of-set number. The band have already been performing for 70-80 minutes and they still deliver huge amounts of energy and just nail it.
Great reaction. Went to my first Maiden concert almost 30 years ago and never stoped since then. Subscribed and can't wait for more. Up the irons from Portugal! 🤘

No worries at all if you're not a fan of Maiden. I'm 56, and was a massive fan when I was in HS in the early '80's and shortly after, but I got burned out on them and long since moved on. Definitely were one of the earliest Metal bands, but the genre has evolved so much over 4 decades. Dickinson, Halford, Dio the Holy Trinity of early Metal vocalists. And Steve Harris is definitely NOT underrated. He is a legend in the genre. He IS maiden, in that Maiden is his band-he's the Boss!
Your expressions for Iron Maiden are what Iron Maiden fans never get tired of saying and never tire from hearing. The are the best and with no radio play, no air time. They are legendary. They sound even better live. Up the Irons 👏👏👏👏👏
Glad you finally had a listen to Maiden. Never too late. A. everything in your video you say you love...they do. B. you need to do some more Maiden. C. repeat B. Oh and enjoy :)
Great Reaction! The live performance you chose was from their documentary called Flight 666 (around 2010) and alot of it was when they toured around South America and those metal heads down there are CRAZY for metal. At every concert the crowds were insane. On a side note, the plane you saw landing at the start of the video was theirs (I think a 747) and Bruce has his pilots license and piloted the plane on their tour.
The plane at the start of this video is a leased Boeing 757. They upgraded to a 747 for the Book of Souls tour. If you hunt around UA-cam, you can find little clips from the various tours that Bruce piloted the plane, radio chatter between the pilot and ATC... and yes, some of them, it is Bruce doing the talking. Sadly, he's said he won't be piloting the band's plane anymore, as he's now within a year of the international mandatory retirement age for commercial pilots. I heard this from the man himself, at his Spoken Word tour back in February. Bruce is just as engaging as a storyteller in a small club, as he is in the big arenas and festivals. He's said that as the front man, it's his job to engage the whole audience and not just the first few rows - that he tries his best to make the people all the way at the back feel as involved as the ones on the barrier.
that's awesome, I seen them for the 1st time live in 1985 (powerslave tour) I was 15 years old, the show was so amazing we went back the next night and bought scalper tickets, and the show was just as amazing but different set lineup, I am 54 now and just seen them again 7 days ago (22nd) at the pond in Anaheim California and the boys sounded great...hey I have fear of the dark in my disc changer right now as a matter of fact "UP THE IRONS"

Yeah the maiden comment and the zz top comment, well said gentlemen
This song is from 1982 album : Number of the Beast - Welcome to my Metalworld for more than 40 years - I´m 54 years old
If you look close at the beginning Bruce is the pilot in command of their plane. He has been a commercial pilot for a very long time
LOL WHAT??????
@@wrighteousj This clip is from the Book of Souls tour, it's the 747 rather than the 757 you saw at the beginning of your video, so from 2016, I believe. Oh, side note, Bruce beat throat cancer in 2015 - recorded Book of Souls, and straight off to chemo, etc. Then a few months to get his voice back in shape, and off to tour. So, here he is, taking off from Fortaleza: ua-cam.com/video/8a8aeHb-Qco/v-deo.html
@@wrighteousjyes sir they actually just said he canno5 pilot them legally anymore only cuz he's 65 or older, meanwhile we have oresidents. And I bet Bruce can do both jobs better than some 10 years older haha, rock on my friends
@@MsCatstaffbless Bruce and Nickolas for kicking ass months after throst cancer and a paralyzing stroke bsck playing hahah fuck yeah
1st off, fun watching your reaction. Think you were honest. Wish you would've mentioned how good his diction is, and his stance. He seems to get alot of power from his stance. 1 other thing, others may have mention but I didn't see while I was scrolling through was he also has a honorary Doctorate in Music from Quenn Mary University in London. After getting his degree in History in 1979. Smart guy.
If I remember correctly, Bruce had a throat tumour or something and got through it and still rockin!
Steve Harris: bass, founder, main writer, band leader.
Bruce Dickinson: vocals
Adrian Smith: lead guitar
Jannick Gers: lead guitar
Dave Murray: lead guitar
Nicko McBraib: drums
The band had always had twin lead guitars. I'll just change the arrangement of EVERY SONG i'VE EVER WRITTEN to include a third guitar."
Crazy to think about!
One of the best live bands around Up The Irons 🤘

Go down the Iron Maiden rabbit hole. This is my first time watching your videos so I don’t know much but go watch or even just listen to some older stuff. The music you grew up on got their roots from the 70s and 80s musicians that I grew up on. No auto tunes no special equipment and yes watching them interact with each other is very enjoyable. They always look like they are having a blast.
“Dance of Death” from the live recording called “En Vivo” is a huge song. Super dramatic. Great story telling through the lyrics and through the instruments.
Hallowed be thy name when they were younger was the best live you could ever hear from bruce dickenson
The thing that amazes me about Bruce Dickinson is that the guitars don't drowned his voice out and you can still hear him over the guitar playing which is phenomenal
Longest day & passchendale live performances are a must..
Best line was "that bassist is underrated."
The Bass God is most definitely not underrated. 😆
Bro I’ve learned my ways now 😭😂😂
LOL the bassist was also the person who wrote all the music for the band
When you brought up Myles kennedy I thought ,this dude gets it!
Drink every time Jordan says "I'm a sucker for" 😂
Glad you finally got introduced to the GOATs.
I just heard him say it as I read this love it
Bruce beat throat cancer and still is singing today
Very nice observations on the band. Bruce said when they started playing large arenas, he realized they needed to be active, animated and "larger than life" in order for the whole crowd to stay engaged.
If you're a sucker for crowd engagement, any live metal concert from Bueno Aires, Argentina will hit. Those fans sing along to the guitar solos. No joke.
Empire of The Clouds. Bruce's masterpiece.
42 year fan here. Check out “Fear of the Dark” - Live in Rio if you really want to get a feel for their fan base. It’s insane.
You Really Need to Go To Iron Maiden

I waited since I was 13 to see them Live.
I'm 53 Now!
Greatest Concert and Band On Earth!
Felt Like I was At a Great Metal
Family Reunion!
Aye thank you! I will definitely do some Maiden again asap
At the time of this show he had already survived tongue cancer and became a airline pilot among other things
This is close to two thirds through the concert and he is recovered from throat cancer. Iron Maiden are the perfect live band.
My band does "Shine", and we break the song after the solo so that I can make the guitar feed back for about 4 bars- the crowd goes wild.
There are only a few things better in life than Iron Maiden live :) Great reaction.. And I love your stormtrooper in the back! Thank you
for Myles Kennedy the wiki said that he was mostly influenced by Jazz and blues singers that his first influence was Led Zeppelin with Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Jeff Buckley, Robert Plant, Bon Scott or Chris Whitley!
Thank you!
Incredible
So you probably didn't notice Bruce was flying the tour jet at the very first seconds of the vide.He is skilled pilot and also flew the Ed Force one a 747 from show to show when he was able to get enough rest by law.
I will see them live in 5 days. It will be 40 years since my first Maiden concert. Up The Irons!
Have my tickets for Toronto Oct 11. Always a great show.
In the immortal words of Butthead, “Say what you want, but Maiden don’t screw around.”
Thank you for subbing!
If you check out the studio version, he does that one low-to-almost scream towards the beginning all in one go.
He can't do that here, cause he's tired, of course.
Next reaction should be Rime of the Ancient Mariner from the same show.
After he watches that this entire channel will just become Maiden reactions it’s a rabbit hole you’ll never escape 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I’ll check it out!
YES !!! BAM !!! The 3 guitar solos (back to back to back) after coming out of the speaking portion of the song ARE INCREDIBLE
Mariner from Live after Death is better !!
I concur.
“I don’t who this bassist is” - the one line that would anger any Iron Maiden fan lol
Steve “the Beast” Harris, greatest metal bassist (he’s also the primary Writer, and only founding member)
Love when he does his patented machine gun bass on stage. What a legend.
Interesting I’ll have to deep dive
Just stumbled on your channel with this one. Thoroughly enjoyed this reaction! Instant sub! BTW in case you didn't catch, Bruce is piloting the plane! He's such a badass!
One song of theirs where Bruce is extremely animated is dance of death, the en vivo version.
The talisman, the en vivo version again, shows you just what bruce is actually capable of as a singer.
Lastly, go for fear of the dark live at rock in rio 2001. It's the first bit of iron maiden I ever heard, and it's incredible.
Please react to these 3 songs mate
Thank you!
@@wrighteousj Yes Bruce is a great story teller especially in Dance of Death LOL They are still my favourite band of all time. At the beginning you saw the jet aircraft arriving. (A 757) and Bruce was the pilot. Amazing.
@The Stranger it really is a great song. I remember getting to see it live on the final frontier tour and I was just blown away by Bruce's performance that night especially with talisman. If you read the lyrics with the song, it's actually amazing how descriptive the song is
@@wrighteousj you're welcome
The bassist is Steve Harris. He's also the primary songwriter for the band.
Bassist Steve Harris is the founding member of the band and writes the music. Watch Maiden’s Flight 666, you see Bruce flying the Maiden plane and lots of fan participation footage. Maiden is on tour now, seeing them in a few weeks in CA. Up the Irons! It will be epic as their shows always are. 🤘🤘🤘
Absolutely wild lol!
@@wrighteousj They have so many amazing songs with epic stories of history, wars and the world. Maiden worldwide fans will find your channel. Big songs are: The Trooper, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Fear of the dark, Dance of Death, Wasted Years, Revelations and more.
@@wrighteousj They are all in their sixties now and Bruce just turned 64
@@wrighteousj Lead singer Bruce Dickinson is a fully qualified Being 747 and 757 captain, amongst other aircraft, has a PhD in history, is an Olympic standard fencer and owns an airfield in Wales. Just your usual average British heavy metalist 🤣
Writes some of the music. Don't forget all the other band members have written some absolute classics.
I didn't see it in your video list, so I'll submit it here. You need to check out Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope (Live in Colorado 2016). Six absolutely incredible musicians, clean singing, deep growls, one of the greatest drummers to ever exist, amazing guitars and bass, and a violin that isn't gimmicky. Such complicated composition that it's actually part of the curriculum of the composition courses at the Sydney Conservatorium for Music. New sub, enjoying your reactions.
Liked and Subscribed. The mighty Maiden brought me here.
Aye thank you for subbing!
He's the only band that takes old poems and quotes from the bible, old history stories and sings about them in rock
This band is my life force. I need it every day
love this
that's awesome, I seen them for the 1st time live in 1985 (powerslave tour) I was 15 years old, the show was so amazing we went back the next night and bought scalper tickets, and the show was just as amazing but different set lineup, I am 54 now and just seen them again 7 days ago (22nd) at the pond in Anaheim California and the boys sounded great...hey I have fear of the dark in my disc changer right now as a matter of fact "UP THE IRONS"

This is hands down my favorite Maiden track.
Now you have to watch the Rock in Rio version of "Fear of the dark". You won't see a better interaction between a band and their fans ever
This is taken from the band's own rock doc, called Flight 666. 10/10 highly recommend.

Brilliant commentary mate. You nailed it 👍 The fans love Maiden because they love the fans and love each other. Outstanding band. It will be a sad day when they retire.
Every heavy metal musician after 1980 was influenced by this band.
Now go watch a video of Bruce when he was young doing this song.
That’s my next step for sure lol
And yes the lead singer was flying the jumbo jet the band tours on. Bruce is just a beast on many levels.
You like melodic and harmonizing guitars and storytelling? Yeah, just listen to basically everything Iron Maiden. Up the irons!
15:35 That's Janick Gers you're talking about. I appreciate you explaining what he's doing. No other reaction to this song has caught (or knew) what he was doing. I sure didn't. Thought he was just being a little flamboyant.
Janick be flamboyant> Nah!
I was going to say the same thing. Everything you said you liked is exactly what iron maiden does. I strongly suggest a deep dive into their catalog. You'll be amazed! From a guy that's been a Maiden fan since the early '80s, thanks for giving this a listen. I just gave you a sub.
@@rippedgenes lol, nah, never! Very subdued chap, that Janick
Yes. 3 guitarists and a bass. Steve Harris on bass. Dave Murray (who left the band for 6 months but in on every album with Harris). Adrian Smith, who left for a while (10 years and two albums) and was replaced with Janick Gers. When Smith returned, Gers was kept on.
I just watched your reaction to this amazing song and was my first time watching your reaction videos, had to subscribe straight away, loved the honesty. I think if you loved this video, I highly recommend Anthrax Armed and Dangerous live in 1987, a band that has so much fun and connection to their audience, even the bass player pointing to people in the crowd is funny and the singer is a lot like Bruce, takes care of his voice 😊
Thank you for your time
