BEST LIVE BAND EVER
@@Mark-xr8kj seen them 2 times Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of Seventh Son tours back when a concert ticket was like 25 bucks
Steve Harris is the bassist ..and essentially founder/owner of Iron Maiden. He is among the best of the best.
Richfield outside of Cleveland, I tried to keep up with the older guys in drinking bad idea LMFAO, missed most of twisted sister!!!!!
Never be afraid to listen to "boomer" bands just because they're older. Good music transcends generation, and if you listen to some of the pioneers you will definitely see where modern music has descended from. And I'm glad you go into with some respect, but also never be afraid to explore. You might not even like some things, but at least you give it a chance.
To put this performance in context, this was the encore. Bruce's voice had already done an entire set and still had this energy.
Ya absolutely incredible honestly. He should be more of a guide for a lot of us.
@@wrighteousj also this was the final show of that portion of the tour. 23 shows in 45 days across 13 countries.
Isn't this also after he recovered from throat cancer?
@@collinnicholasns No, this show was in 2008 and his cancer treatment was in 2015.
@@jasperdevries1726 ok I was not sure definitely impressive that he is still able to perform as well as he does now after that.
Calling Steve Harris underrated is feckin hilarious. Metal Hammer bassist of the year over 10 times.😂😂😂
Bro I’m coming in as an ignorant man of metal history 😂😂😂😂
Well this is a great review. So welcome to the club. Regardless of youtube, you should have a look into their catalogue.
He didnt call him underated. He was appreciating his amazing talent!
@@wrighteousj Oh, that bassist guy does a few more things - backing vocals, keyboards, primary song writer, oh yeah and he's the founder of the band 😄❤
@@wrighteousj please react to Metallica's The Day that Never Comes live in Nimes France 2009 or/and them in Mexico City performing Disposable Heroes! Both are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! They are so tight and unbelievably the greatest metal band of all time for these reasons, just watch!!!
Did you notice Bruce Dickinson was also piloting the tour jet? He's a certified airline pilot, even flew for British Air for a little while. A man of many talents.
Also accomplished national level fencer, children's book author, two autobiographies, and survivor of throat cancer and still out there singing.
@@O-D-X Yeah, no kidding huh! BD is the very epitome of a polymath.
And he beat cancer!
He’s a Captain at commercial level, and an Honorary Captain in the RAF. He also has two doctorates, so he’s Capt. Capt. Dr. Dr. Bruce Dickinson.
This man deserves a knighthood! Services to multiple industries - music, film, literature, aviation, military, history, philanthropy, sport (fencing), business… he’s also survived cancer and Covid with his voice still intact, and has had a hip replacement, he’s done it all and hasn’t even reached retirement age!
As the lyrics of The Final Frontier say: “done more in my life, than some do in 10”.
He also flies a Fokker Dr1 Triplane full size World War 1 reproduction which he partly owns.
Not forgetting in 2014 Bruce was diagnosed with throat cancer and he is still going strong today
Literally had to learn to speak again, let alone sing! And when you sing like Bruce does, it can be really tough for one's vocal cords. Well, it's really tough anyway, but if his technique wasn't just right, he wouldn't be singing like this anymore.
He recorded an album even though know something wasn’t right (he googled his symptoms and figured out it was potentially cancer), went to the doctor after they finished the final recording session, got the diagnosis, and had the treatment, all before the band made anything public… one of my favourite things about them, they keep everything private until they decide it’s time to reveal.
Bruce is a force of nature. He is a fascinating human. A huge fan since 1985.
@@mindyeden8269 This or he's sold his soul, like many in this industry. The Revelations is about Alistair Crowley. Just saying.
@@aimfuldrifterShaitan would weep when hearing his voice, then give it back with apologies. Seriously, this kind of comment on "Hallowed by thy name" ?

There's a reason Bruce is called the Air Raid Siren, I absolutely love watching people discover the awesomeness of Iron Maiden! Great reaction, you've gained a subscriber! I'm sure this has already been suggested, but please do yourself a favor and either watch on your own time or react to the live version of this song at Hammersmith in 1982.
I've heard he sings the entire concert playlist while rollerblading to prepare for a tour. He also was the pilot of the 757 they used for this world tour. He wrote a couple of books. He helped a brewery come up with a few Maiden inspired beers. He was once the 7th ranked fencer in England. I think he sings for some band also.
Maybe in his free time he sings for some band...
The moment you said you didn't know who Steve Harris (the bassist) was and even said he was probably an underrated bassist, you had me giggling. I can tell this was your first maiden song (and badass pick for one might i add) but you will soon realize Steve Harris isn't just a crucial member of the band... he is one of the most influential hard rock/ metal bassists to ever exist
I have learned the ways!
@@wrighteousj You were honest and not disrespectfull or snob, for not knowing, and thats what matters in the end.
What does being underrated mean?
What does underrated mean? If you call something underrated, it means you think the general opinion about it is lower than it should be. Underrated is an adjective, but is also the past tense of the verb underrate.
I'm sad that i'm a brazilian dude teaching you english.
@@igorsartoretto it means something doesn’t have enough praise
@@wrighteousj The whole time you were talking about Steve, I was thinking "This dude is gonna learn about the gallop today." :)
Steve Harris (the bassist) "highly underrated"? Dude's been one of the best and most acclaimed Metal bassists and songwriters for a good 40 years now.
As great as they are and as good musicians they are. One particular point I would like newer bands take from this is.... They are fantastic *entertainers* . Don't forget to entertain your audience, they come to get something more than just the music.
This comment is everything
The only contradiction to this is zz top I feel. They just play and the crowd entertains themselves lol they are just two dudes playing guitars with a drummer lol
“Dance of Death” from the live recording called “En Vivo” is a huge song. Super dramatic. Great story telling through the lyrics and through the instruments.
If you look close at the beginning Bruce is the pilot in command of their plane. He has been a commercial pilot for a very long time
LOL WHAT??????
@@wrighteousj This clip is from the Book of Souls tour, it's the 747 rather than the 757 you saw at the beginning of your video, so from 2016, I believe. Oh, side note, Bruce beat throat cancer in 2015 - recorded Book of Souls, and straight off to chemo, etc. Then a few months to get his voice back in shape, and off to tour. So, here he is, taking off from Fortaleza: ua-cam.com/video/8a8aeHb-Qco/v-deo.html
Best line was "that bassist is underrated."
The Bass God is most definitely not underrated. 😆
Bro I’ve learned my ways now 😭😂😂
Bruce has talked in interviews how the gestures and stage antics, as well as projecting his voice are all part of tring to make those in the back of the house feel like they're much closer
Bassist Steve Harris is the founding member of the band and writes the music. Watch Maiden’s Flight 666, you see Bruce flying the Maiden plane and lots of fan participation footage. Maiden is on tour now, seeing them in a few weeks in CA. Up the Irons! It will be epic as their shows always are. 🤘🤘🤘
Absolutely wild lol!

@@wrighteousj Lead singer Bruce Dickinson is a fully qualified Being 747 and 757 captain, amongst other aircraft, has a PhD in history, is an Olympic standard fencer and owns an airfield in Wales. Just your usual average British heavy metalist 🤣
Writes some of the music. Don't forget all the other band members have written some absolute classics.
On 6 January 2020, Dickinson was made an Honorary Group Captain of 601 (County of London) Squadron RAF.[126] Royal Air Force. Dickinson's interests and non-musical activities include writing, broadcasting, fencing (at which he has competed internationally, placing 7th in Great Britain,[127] and has founded a fencing equipment company under the brand name "Duellist"),[128] beer brewing and aviation. Due to the wide variety of Dickinson's pursuits, Intelligent Life named him as a living example of a polymath in 2009.[129] Wikipedia.
You really have to see them live to appreciate what they do. My first time was 1983, my last one was 2019, and both were just amazing. The energy they have while being in their 60's is unmatched.
Steve “the Beast” Harris, greatest metal bassist (he’s also the primary Writer, and only founding member)
Love when he does his patented machine gun bass on stage. What a legend.
Interesting I’ll have to deep dive
Next reaction should be Rime of the Ancient Mariner from the same show.
After he watches that this entire channel will just become Maiden reactions it’s a rabbit hole you’ll never escape 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I’ll check it out!
YES !!! BAM !!! The 3 guitar solos (back to back to back) after coming out of the speaking portion of the song ARE INCREDIBLE
Mariner from Live after Death is better !!
I concur.
The thing that amazes me about Bruce Dickinson is that the guitars don't drowned his voice out and you can still hear him over the guitar playing which is phenomenal
I will see them live in 5 days. It will be 40 years since my first Maiden concert. Up The Irons!
I was fortunate enough to watch this tour live twice, the first show here in São Paulo, Brazil, a rain storm ruined the fireworks and a lot of stuff from the stage so they promised they'd be back the next year to do justice to their concert. They kept their promise and came back, the ticket prices were cheaper and ironically once again a rain storm hit us, because of that there were over 20k people outside at the moment the band was supposed to go on stage, then their manager showed up and said they were gonna wait until everybody was in because it was unfair to start it knowing so many people had trouble reaching the venue. Then they delivered the show of our lives. Every band should take note from Iron Maiden about how to keep the fans happy and coming back.
Very nice observations on the band. Bruce said when they started playing large arenas, he realized they needed to be active, animated and "larger than life" in order for the whole crowd to stay engaged.
If you're a sucker for crowd engagement, any live metal concert from Bueno Aires, Argentina will hit. Those fans sing along to the guitar solos. No joke.
Thank you ! Appreciate learning about Iron Maiden - this phenomenal trailblazing English band that has influenced so very many metal bands in their 40 plus years of existence. So awe inspiring!
After listening to Hallowed Be Thy Name and delving into the lyrics (loved it), I just had to do a bit more research. Learning that Steve Harris wrote such incredibly academic yet grounded lyrics based on historical events (Run to the Hills, Alexander the Great) and literature (Charge of the Light Brigade was a fave of my father and grandfather which was the inspiration for The Trooper). Then discovering that they have a song titled Phantom of the Opera - that just called to me.
Saw a video of Iron Maiden playing at a festival and the aerial view of the endless sea of fans was breathtaking. The band has received countless awards including honorary doctorates ! What blew my mind is that they have hardly gotten radio play and mainstream support yet their achievements / album sales / recognition / influence on other artists (eg Metallica) but not limited to heavy metal artists are legendary.
47 years since Steve Harris formed the group in 1975 and still going strong! Wow ! How wonderful to learn new things every day! Thank you!
Incredible
Your expressions for Iron Maiden are what Iron Maiden fans never get tired of saying and never tire from hearing. The are the best and with no radio play, no air time. They are legendary. They sound even better live. Up the Irons 👏👏👏👏👏
I am 50 now and grew up with these guys. I'm impressed with you being so humble, young man. You are great.
Me too
Drink every time Jordan says "I'm a sucker for" 😂
Glad you finally got introduced to the GOATs.
Just saw them the day you uploaded this video and even after going through cancer Bruce still dominates. Of course aging is evident but I would never hold that against him or the band because they've been doing it longer than most bands and at a super high-level. Throw on top of that the amazing stage production and theatrics and you have yourself an unbeatable show.
They ENJOY themselves so much live! They act like 16 yr Olds. They love interacting with the crowd, cranking out the level of loud noise not available elsewhere.
One song of theirs where Bruce is extremely animated is dance of death, the en vivo version.
The talisman, the en vivo version again, shows you just what bruce is actually capable of as a singer.
Lastly, go for fear of the dark live at rock in rio 2001. It's the first bit of iron maiden I ever heard, and it's incredible.
Please react to these 3 songs mate
Thank you!
@@wrighteousj Yes Bruce is a great story teller especially in Dance of Death LOL They are still my favourite band of all time. At the beginning you saw the jet aircraft arriving. (A 757) and Bruce was the pilot. Amazing.
@The Stranger it really is a great song. I remember getting to see it live on the final frontier tour and I was just blown away by Bruce's performance that night especially with talisman. If you read the lyrics with the song, it's actually amazing how descriptive the song is

Now you have to watch the Rock in Rio version of "Fear of the dark". You won't see a better interaction between a band and their fans ever
Maiden's been my favorite band since I was 12. I'm happy when new listeners have great maiden experiences 👍🤘
One thing that I haven't really seen acknowledged is that this is an end-of-set number. The band have already been performing for 70-80 minutes and they still deliver huge amounts of energy and just nail it.
Live shows are where Maiden made their name. Very little radio play, but they are still one of the biggest bands on the planet. Great reaction.
I went more than 20 years without missing a Maiden show in Detroit..... saw them EVERY time they came
And these guys are the best live band under the sun....150+ songs....the talisman is epic aswell....rime of the ancient mariner....blood brothers....dance of death....the list is huge man....enjoy dude
You should read Bruce's autobiography. He piloted that plane they went in tour with... But that's just a little bit of what makes that guy so special.
Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner is a great life experience, just like Fear of the Dark, When the Wild Winds Blow, Powerslave, The Clairvoyant, Sign of the Cross, Blood Brothers, The Clansman...
I mean, there are the classics like The Trooper, The Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills, but I don't think these are their best songs - however, they are definitely great live though, so you can't go wrong here either 😂
Bruce Dickinson actually did some really great solo albums. Years of the Dragon, Inertia, Accident of Birth, Chemical wedding, The Tower, Book of Thel, Gates of Urizen, Eternal...
He also worked on a documentary called "Scream for me Sarajevo"... As in his solo tour they went to Sarajevo... During Civil War... It's partially about him and the band, but mostly about the civil war in the balkans and how music helped the young people to keep their hope alive that that war would end.
You'll have a difficult time to find a metal Frontman... Or Sunday un general with such a "CV" 😊 that guy is truly inspiring.
Watching Bruce on stage always made me think of a hyper child with the energy he exudes. He is and always shall be the king of frontmen! And that voice! This video honestly doesn’t do his voice justice. It’s even more amazing than you could possibly imagine!
I think iron maidens drummer is under rated, especially because a lot of people don't know how that he was one of the only metal drummers to just a single pedal on the kick drum.
Great reaction.
Went to my first Maiden concert almost 30 years ago and never stoped since then.
Subscribed and can't wait for more.
Up the irons from Portugal! 🤘
Thank you for subbing!
Great Reaction! The live performance you chose was from their documentary called Flight 666 (around 2010) and alot of it was when they toured around South America and those metal heads down there are CRAZY for metal. At every concert the crowds were insane. On a side note, the plane you saw landing at the start of the video was theirs (I think a 747) and Bruce has his pilots license and piloted the plane on their tour.
The plane at the start of this video is a leased Boeing 757. They upgraded to a 747 for the Book of Souls tour. If you hunt around UA-cam, you can find little clips from the various tours that Bruce piloted the plane, radio chatter between the pilot and ATC... and yes, some of them, it is Bruce doing the talking. Sadly, he's said he won't be piloting the band's plane anymore, as he's now within a year of the international mandatory retirement age for commercial pilots. I heard this from the man himself, at his Spoken Word tour back in February.
Bruce is just as engaging as a storyteller in a small club, as he is in the big arenas and festivals. He's said that as the front man, it's his job to engage the whole audience and not just the first few rows - that he tries his best to make the people all the way at the back feel as involved as the ones on the barrier.
At the beginning of the video when you see the plane flying in and they show you an in-cockpit view, that’s Bruce Dickinson flying the plane.
This is close to two thirds through the concert and he is recovered from throat cancer. Iron Maiden are the perfect live band.
We who love Iron Maiden also love Nightwish, Rammstein, Jinjer, Arch Enemy, The Warning, Sabaton and Aurora 😎🇧🇻
Great choice of bands, I'm seeing Arch Enemy on Sunday.
Definitely need to do more Iron Maiden!!!!
Maiden isn't just a band... they are a way of life.
And yes the lead singer was flying the jumbo jet the band tours on. Bruce is just a beast on many levels.
No worries at all if you're not a fan of Maiden. I'm 56, and was a massive fan when I was in HS in the early '80's and shortly after, but I got burned out on them and long since moved on. Definitely were one of the earliest Metal bands, but the genre has evolved so much over 4 decades. Dickinson, Halford, Dio the Holy Trinity of early Metal vocalists.
And Steve Harris is definitely NOT underrated. He is a legend in the genre. He IS maiden, in that Maiden is his band-he's the Boss!
I guess it's better to be late to the party than to not show up at all.. Uptheirons🤘
Empire of The Clouds. Bruce's masterpiece.
That was Bruce flying the plane. Multi-talanted.
Ah yes, IRON MAIDEN! I was on their concert like 2 months ago ❤ Hallowed Be Thy Name is easily their best song (check out Hammersmith 1982 performance as well)

My joy in watching his video is your joy in watching Maiden. I've followed the group since 1979, they don't bow down to the media and as you quite rightly said they have forged there own path. The reason they are arguably the best metal band of all time is the legacy they have and the word of mouth that brings new fans to the family. What's amazing is this is their freaking encore!! His voice still sounds this amazing at the end of a 2-3 hour show!! I've been lucky to see them twice in person, and they are still so impressive live.
Iron Maiden isn't just a band, but an experience. I highly recommend seeing Iron Maiden live as soon as you can. I saw them live a couple years ago and they are amazing. They make sure every song is engaging to watch on stage and hear. I even saw one of the guitarists playing a big part with his feet. Sadly, Bruce even said that he is getting older so it's getting to be difficult to do all the stuff he normally does on stage.
The entire band, even to this day with them all being in their 60's now, are all still elite musicians!! Steve Harris/bass is regarded as the elite of elite metal bassists. Nicko Mcbrain/drums, top 5 metal drummer, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith/guitars, best metal guitar tandem ever and last but certainly not least, Bruce Dickinson the absolute best metal singer alive!
Not a Gers fan then? 😂
I love maiden I really do but saying bruice can still sing is rediculas. He hasn't been right since the cancer, his voice cuts out on certain notes in live performances and is badly covered with echo effects or somthing and his vocals on recent albums have been quite breathy and monotone
Nicko is 70!
Right now, Iron Maiden is touring the states - Legacy of the Beast tour plus they are supporting their latest album, Senjutsu. You asked about 3 guitarists: Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers. Adrian and Bruce left the band in mid 90's. Blaze stepped in as lead singer, and Janick Gers stepped in for Adrian. During their album, Brave New World, both Bruce and Adrian returned to Iron Maiden. Instead of dropping Janick from the band, he stayed in the band making 3 guitars band. They are known as "Three Amigos" by Maiden Fans. All three share leads on each song. You probably know that I am a huge Iron Maiden fan. True, I have since in 1983 with their Piece of Mind album. Nicko McBrain (drummer) replaced their other drummer, Clive Burr who died in 2013 back in 1983. Nicko back in 2009, opened restaurant called Rock n Roll Ribs in Florida.
Some of his bandmates stop by there when they are not touring. Nicko jams with local bands in the area too.

There is nothing about an Iron Maiden concert that is not edge of your seat awesomeness!! I've seen them many times and I've never been disappointed!! When Bruce says "SCREAM FOR ME (insert city name here)!!" Everyone goes NUTS!!!
One more "note" about Bruce Dickinson... he was the pilot of the 'Iron Maiden' plane that you saw landing in the beginning. He flew them around the world for that tour.
They still sound amazing but you should check out the 1982 live video to hear them at their peak
I’ll definitely go check out some older stuff!
Bruce is great here “for his age”, but the legendary performance of this song at Hammersmith Odeon in 1982 is as good as any performance ever captured live. He’s a beast on that track-pun intended (it’s from the Beast on the Road tour).
There’s a reason why it’s one of the most frequently reviewed Maiden performances, but considering your background and vocal knowledge, I’d love to hear your review.

You've gotten me feeling nostalgic about Iron Maiden. I first heard them from one of my best friends back where I grew up. Him and his twin brother lived across the street from the house across the street from me. One day he I went over to his house and knocked on the door to get him to come outside to hang out and he told me to come inside for a minute. He showed me a skate video, Misled Youth and fast forwarded the vhs to Jamie Thomas' part. This song started playing and we both jammed out to it. He found the band name and song name in the credits. It was Wasted Years by Iron Maiden. He told me that, "I'm going to find and listen to everything from this band." From that point on, they were his favorite band and one of my top 3 favorite bands from then on. He actually got to see them live. I had moved away by then, but I still listen and love their music even now. Glad to see you learning about one of the Greatest Bands of all time. Also, check out their lyrics to find out what subjects they are speaking about, it will surprise you.
This was like 25 years after the original live performance of this same song. This recording is incredible enough but his voice was on point even more 25 years earlier. Its worth watching even if not as a reaction. Its iconic. Bruce was flying that plane they show at the beginning. He's been a pilot for many years. Yes, they have 3 6string guitars and a bass. All are really good. If Iron Maiden had a "sound" its the layering of the 3 guitars. They jump back n forth taking lead at times, the other 2 typically harmonizing in the back. Pluce Bruce voice is insane.
Steve Harris the bassist formed band, and pretty much wrote most of the songs they ever recorded!
HE DREAMS A LOT OF HIS DARKER SONGS AND STUFF THATS HOW HE WRITES IT AND VISUALIZE IT HES A LIVING LEGEND PROBABLY MOST APPRICIATED METAL SONGWRITER EVER!
YOU HAVE TO DO RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER!!!!!!!
I will absolutely check it out
Saw them live for the first time 39 years ago when I was 14 - going to see them live again for the 6th time next month. Iron Maiden is a fan’s band… they will give you 110% every show and never disappoint! Legends! They live to tour and perform. Absolutely amazing show!
Longest day & passchendale live performances are a must..
See the metal bands from the late 80's and early 90's could actually sing and play their instruments they didn't need auto tune or recorded tracks . That's the difference between great musicians and the musicians of today .
We have tickets to see them next week in Southern California 🤟 PS, Bruce is piloting that plane you just saw. If you watch the 1982 live version you'll get the awesome experience of hearing his vocals at his peak !!! One more thing, have you done any Dio or Judas Priest??
I was there in the crowd that night. It was the last song of the tour and the video does not do justice to the energy in the room. It was simply amazing. 6 musicians at the peak of their game giving it everything.
Brilliant commentary mate. You nailed it 👍 The fans love Maiden because they love the fans and love each other. Outstanding band. It will be a sad day when they retire.
Bruce, greatest front man ever, Steve Harris best bassist ever, my favourite guitarist and Nicko what a drummer
42 year fan here. Check out “Fear of the Dark” - Live in Rio if you really want to get a feel for their fan base. It’s insane.
Our Fan Base Is Our LIFE-FORCE!! Great quote!!! Paid homage where it is definitely DUE!!
So you probably didn't notice Bruce was flying the tour jet at the very first seconds of the vide.He is skilled pilot and also flew the Ed Force one a 747 from show to show when he was able to get enough rest by law.
Bruce has been the yardstick metal singers are measured by for three decades...
The reason Iron maiden has three guitarists is that Adrian Smith left in the 90's and then returned. They took him back but kept Yannick Guers, his replacement. Now Helloween has three guitarists and three singers for similar reasons.
A couple other singers you should probably look at and will likely not hear in the US are Eric Adams of Manowar and Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian. Eric is 70 and Hansi 56. Both are examples of longevity, range and storytelling. Swords in the Wind ua-cam.com/video/tkPlBf91Ysc/v-deo.html Valhalla ua-cam.com/video/K3GGr_Ry-aY/v-deo.html
Manowar and Blind Guardian and legendary.
It's a damn shame it's taken so long for them to get any attention in the states.
@@TheLastGarou The US market is very closed. To power metal and folk metal in particular, for some, probably very stupid reason. But even pop acts from continental Europe can run into an institutional brick wall...
I just watched your reaction to this amazing song and was my first time watching your reaction videos, had to subscribe straight away, loved the honesty. I think if you loved this video, I highly recommend Anthrax Armed and Dangerous live in 1987, a band that has so much fun and connection to their audience, even the bass player pointing to people in the crowd is funny and the singer is a lot like Bruce, takes care of his voice 😊
Thank you for your time
