"Birds don't have an instrument rating 😂." That's made my day, and taught me something too. Thank you so much, Tim, for all you do, and have done.
Thanks Ronnie, hope you are doing great!
The good thing with birds is that if there's just the one, it'll be way better at avoiding you than you trying to avoid it. I hit an eagle once as I tried to avoid it. In less than a second we both jinked the same way three times until he went through the prop and became eagle mince down the side of the plane. Lucky for me, despite those MT props being basically balsa covered in carbon, it held together.
One guy I knew hit a big bird with the leading edge of a Laser 200. Made a mess of the wing. He got it down and they found the beak wedged in the main spar.
@@usefulcommunication4516 yes, birds always go down to the trees so it's best to let them avoid you.
That made me laugh as well! I suspect birds can't afford the IR qual course.
Going into Madrid MAD onto 18R late summer is always good for a close up with a vulture or two!!
As a 12 year old playing Commodore 64 flight "sims"- a few jaggy lines, some green and blue yet totally engrossing at the time- I couldn't have begun to imagine what would be available in 2024! Kids these days have no idea how spoiled they are 😂
Falcon 1, just green 2d cockpit, sticks for missiles, triangles for mountains. No control stick. Hrs of fun!
Ah yes! I had a BBC Model b. The flight sim for the Beeb was called Aviator. You got to fly a Spitfire under a bridge and shoot down aliens as well. At no point did you have more than a dozen squiggly lines on the screen. Cutting edge graphics for the early eighties. Hours of fun!
I know what you mean, I spent winters playing Microprose Gunship on a speccy. Think I was kept outside for the other seasons 😁.
As for how spoiled, I think the same goes for all generations.
ZX81 had a flight sim, which was my first.
@@stevekitt52 Sinclair Spectrum. Was a lot of fun!
to remove blue highlight on switches you need to go into Accessibility options and changed “locked” to “legacy”.... also change clouds to ultra. makes a huge difference and make the sim look great!
OK, I'm going to do those two things, many thanks #legend!
how do you do it on xbox?
@@Msfsnerd Step 1. replace xbox with PC. Step 2 as above :)
@@Msfsnerd not sure im afraid. id imagine its the same process. correct me if im wrong.
@@dasautopilot7097You cant do it on xbox
I’m glad you explained the Anti G Straining Manoeuvre because I thought your dog might have had a cold for a minute. 😊
Me too, lol
More of these videos please!
I would love to get his opinion on VR in this
As a private pilot and MSFS addict. I appreciate the fact you made this video 😎
That's very kind, thank you.
And that gentlemen, is why we had the best fighter pilots in the world. Masterclass Tim. Awesome commentary.
Loved the video Tim. Of the 7.951 billion people on the planet, you are by far the most qualified to fly this route in MSFS, given your 10 years plus experience at Valley, and your subsequent simming activities.
I don’t think that you should be apologetic in pointing out where the computer version doesn’t match the real thing. Such data is surely pure gold to simulation modellers who have the tough task of matching reality within a set of limitations imposed by the sim. I would hope that Just Flight are tweaking their model as we speak, taking your wise words into account.
Would like to see you do the Tornado too.
What a great business model.
Actual RAF pilot teaching on DCS, etc.
Enthusiasts have a valuable source!
That was strangely compelling to watch.
Excellent commentary
Know that area sooo well, its usually me as one of the hill monkies with the big camera!
Would a Sigma Sport 150-600mm be any good up there or is it a teleconverter job?
Also, how do you know when there'll be anything going on?
@@Tigermoto I use a 300mm or 500mm up there so you would be fine with that lens.
There is no timetable for any of the LFA’s. You just have to take your chances and enjoy the view.
Can't wait for our first visit to cad... We've just moved to a village on the A470.
Wondering if the midges are bad up there cos they're killing me in the valley 😅
They were not bad last week when I was up there, it’s the sheep ticks you have to watch out for at this time of year
You may have had 'Unlimited Fuel' on.
Great job Tim. This is the video I've been waiting for. You're spot on with the flight model, it's not quite there but that's mostly due to MSFS's limitations. You'll need to tweak quite a few of the settings to get more realism and I wholeheartedly recommend forgetting about using ATC - this is shockingly bad/unusable on this sim. I think you'd chalk up a huge number of hits by doing a walkthrough of the start-up and shutdown procedures. #Legend
Oh yeah, I could do that - I'll hit the settings, thanks.
Tim, Thank God for you, love what you do
Ive recently moved across to msfs from Xplane, I had the Hawk over there, now Ive got to buy it again. Love the loop. Ive camped at Dinas mawddwy by bluebell. I seem to spend more time pissing around solving issues with msfs than I do flying. Great video Tim. More when you have time please.
Same here - I only used the glider in MSFS once before this vid and I had to solve loads of key binding issues - still not completely solved it.
Tim knows his stuff for sure
I never bother with ATC in flight sim
Commentary adds level of realism. Brilliant.
Can’t wait to watch this later. Thanks Tim
I would love more of these. Perhaps some of the other jets you’ve flown or a “how to fly a jet 101” video for us sim geeks?
Superb video Tim, good watch and really informative.
That's pretty cool, thanks for the ride!
That was amazing, well done!
I bought 2020 for the Hawk and the Mach loop. The rest of the world was just a bonus. Done about 600 hours in loads o planes that I didn't even know existed. definitely worth the cash
Super video Tim!
Absolutely brilliant 👏
Its mad that we've gone from dodging triangular polygon 'hills' in flight sims on the Amiga to using like for like 'woods' as turning points in 2024.
My old man worked on the lightning simulator at Guttersloh in the late 70's. He describes this monstrous, multi-roomed installation with a hard copy roller display. He's astonished by my 'cheap' PC/VR setup which is lightyears ahead of anything the RAF had 45 years ago.
Your PC is still probably light years of anything the RAF has now to be honest.
@@FastJetPerformance 🤣
The T7A Red Hawk is seriously awesome, well worth every penny.
Great to watch with a real pilot!!!
Great to hear your perspective on this Tim! Thanks for the boss video. I have also often experienced the strong drag effect whilst turning onto finals with this aircraft so interesting to hear that is not the case in the real thing. Would love to see some more content with the T1! 🤙
Brilliant Tim, I'd be one of those photographers on the hills in the Mach Loop, taking photos and videoing for my channel.
That was entertaining to watch. I haven't used any simulator for about 20 years, so to me it looked 'ultra realistic'. Good of you to wave to the photogs on the hill.
Loved this Tim. Been watching and photographing the aircraft come through the Loop since 2016. With a bit of luck I may have seen your good self come powering through. Much, much better than any airshow.
I can't believe how much I enjoyed this! So glad I subbed you, not because I am an aspiring pilot but because of your monologues in the car. You're a man to look up to! I am 47 and a complete washout in comparison, but I was an air cadet. I never flew, I was on the shooting team and loved it. As an older man I am certainly more interested in flying, but it is your discipline that I admire the most. The in flight commentary is absolutely brilliant as well, thank you sir 👍
That was beautiful to watch
Damn awesome man, love this.
Man that looks so real...awesome!
The graphics are brilliant Tim
Excellent vid Tim!
Tornado please, Tim. New IFE tornado gr1 is great
I grew up in Tywyn and regularly went out before the internet days in '89 to watch the fast jets. I love seeing how the roads are pretty much exact. On the left as you drop into the valley towards Lake Talyllyn you see a rock on the left called Devils Pulpit. Thanks for reminding me of my teenage years
Great to see you doing what you do like no one else.
Masterclass, more please for us amateurs.
Loved watching that. 😊. What a great review of FS by someone who definitely knows what they are doing 😊
So pleased to see you on MSFS. Some say the flight characteristics aren’t as good as DCS but it’s great seeing a former RAF QFI fly around north wales. Takes me back to June 2020 and your first x plane video. That stuff got me hooked! Thanks Tim.
Great vid. Glad it was more than 10mins!
Really enjoy these videos. Trying to watch while up a tower crane.
You are a legend, lol - that's some skill!
Fricking awesome, lol
Love hearing a professional at work.. great video cheers
This is epic!!. So pleased you're on msfs. I felt I was one of your students. Please consider merging a virtual training squadron using hawks for ab initio training, then use DCS for weapons or operations. This is your forte, Tim, excellent!!
This was a TREAT. Let me go catch my breath now! Awesome
That was ace!
More videos like this please on msfs , really enjoyed this !
Great Video Tim , would love to fly with you through the loop in VR LOVE THE HAWK , can’t get enough of it! Let me know 👍🏼
Props from a fellow MSFS player here in the USA, excellent video!!
I've not flown professionally, but this brought back a good memory for me.
The valley coming north west along the A5, Llyn Ogwen towards Bethesda... one day, there I was on my sports bike enjoying the road, when I look left and there's a SeaKing lad. I swear the guy in the right seat saluted while I looked, but I could be making that up. Anyway, I hit the gas hard, and the SeaKing cheated because he doesn't need to go around corners on the road.
As he disappeared in front of me, there was a bank left/right/left/right as though the pilot was waving goodbye. Loved it.
SEAKING LADS!
I used to flash trucks and they would flash back :)
@@FastJetPerformance Ass against the window flash? Top skill level is that maneuver!
man im beginning to enjoy more and more your videos, watching real pilots on Sims always gives me pleasure, the last one i saw with the harrier in DCS you just shown once a pilot always a pilot, tim you can remove those highlights blue colors in the cockpit, go to Accessibility options and changed “locked” to “legacy”, much love and be happy in these years of your life
Loved the video, purely because you get to properly appreciate a commentary of what an RAF Pilot plans and executes to perform the job, where to look, risk analysis, route planning and the whole process comes together seamlessly. Loved it boss :)
Be great to see this with a two ship and commentary between 2 pilots 1 being the wingman and how the commentary goes to break direction etc.
OK, I'll see what I can do.
Enjoyed watching this, always find it interesting to watch someone fly it thats done it in the real world.
Since getting a HP Reverb g2 headset I only ever fly in the sim in VR now.
I have personally done about 50 laps of the Mach loop in my Hawk. Thanks so much for showing us all exactly how a real fast jet pilot would fly it. 😎
This looks amazing. No one better to test this than yourself. I can remember the flight simulator on the Krypton Factor. In the later episodes they had a Hawk simulator. We’ve got better graphics at home now. Great video.
WOW, UA-cam sent me here, it was that good ive watched it twice, really enjoyed that. Thanks.
Superb. 'Smoking a crackpipe' line had me in stitches! 😅
18:09 Hey Tim. Late with my comments for this video. My first 36 hours of flying was in Casper, Wyoming. "Request Flight Following" is equivalent to our (UK) VFR in Class C or D airspace which offers traffic advisories and weather threats ahead - so it's like "Basic service" where you are in charge of avoiding collision with other aircraft but ATC will give you essential information.
Since MSFS is US, their ATC for the UK uses incorrect terminology. For the UK, it's best to use XPLANE combined with VATSIM. VATSIM ATC have to pass an exam and most of the ATC operators are actual ATC.
Brilliant vid!
Tornado in MSFS next please!!!
Thrustmaster stick with the Virpil base for the win.
Msfs in the hawk looks insane
Love the breathing indicator movement...
more of these please, very enjoyable
Love it.
Absolutely awesome!!
Love the vid Tim back to old school FJP,
"weather looks poor but we are going anyway because were legends" 😂
Impressive knowledge
Fascinating..enjoyed that and never flown myself in my life.. might pop down my local aerodrome for a lesson
Really enjoy your content 👍👍
Do it! Also look into gliding, much cheaper :)
Awesome as always! Would love to see you in the F4.... that's a beast!
ooooooooooooh, let me do that for you!
@@FastJetPerformance I'm loving the F4! Incredible mod which keeps on giving! lol
Great video absolutely loved it and i know nothing about flying but i found it really interesting.😎👍
Yes! Epic! More please!!!!!! Might need to set preferences to real for handling and fuel burn !
Never thought of that, yet to explore the options - good advice, thanks.
@@FastJetPerformance Maybe check to make sure your flight model is set to modern and not legacy also. This tends to make the addon jets behave more realistically and not have a tendency to twitch around as much, which can be an odd Msfs thing I’ve found
Great video very interesting to listen to
Fantastic 👌🏻 🇬🇧
Thoroughly compelling viewing… Tim in his comfort zone which for mere mortals is fast fast fast
Wow! Professional! ;D
Excellent👍
Great video Tim, love to join the school when I have some time. You flew over my house ;)
Always got zapped by Gnats and Hawks when going down the Ogwen valley back to Bangor Uni on my motorbike. Nice to see the roll to (almost) inverted where the A5 changes sides to the north by the cafe.
Got my revenge and chance to chase cars later on in life as I often used Valley for Practice Diversions from Church Fenton in a humble JP5. I don't think the Loop existed in the late 1970s, as the low level routes were more structured with simple straight routes with Tactical Reporting Points at the turns.
Enjoyed the 500' run and break at the end!
Gesundheit!
Sounds like you're sneezing in the turns.
Is that a realistic depiction of the grunts made by fighter pilots?
Very nice Tim, I found a flight plan for the lower Mach loop, from Barmouth to Mach, then up the valley and down over the reservoir to Pen-y-bont, one of my favourite areas for the FI Spitfire Mk IX.
If youwant to improve this area of North Wales in the sim, I can recommend downloading Skell300 and Superspuds RAF Valley. It is one of the top tier add ons. Skell has also modelled Llanbedr and Caernarfon airfields.
Wow!
Back in time for kippers!
Cracking demo Tim. Thank you.
British is (STILL) best!
Love to watch you fly.
'Come on Scooby Doo, I see you' 🙂
Thank you for this one, I enjoyed it.
Lovely now straight to the bar …………for an orange juice .! 😊
Hi Tim, if you want the instruments flashing blue to stop, the toolbar at the top of the screen has “assistance options”. Turn any off that you see fit.
AHA legend!
Hawker Hawk??? Lovely looking Jet I think
BAe Systems(British Aerospace,) Formerly Hawker Siddeley Hawk. Great looking jet, the Mk.2 sounds great too.
DCS is a very pretty sim but to me MSFS always looks gorgeous in vids, maybe i'll have to pick it up when MSFS 24 comes out.
Well done Tim - You need to be back in the chair teaching the future pilots 👍
Hands down the best MSFS video I have seen. Nice.
Love you and I LOVE the Richard the First flag!
Nice can even see fraggle rock at Valley where the spotters hang out ( odd bunch 😂)dont remember all those trees though
Great stream 👍👍👍
When I retire off the 737 in October I’m going to have a go at this course
We have a lot of airline guys in the school, come and relax with us.
Kept thinking you had somebody in the room sneezing then realized it was the sound coming from the pilot every time you started to pull G's 😅😅😅
Flew the loop in the Seneca at Virtual Fight Experience in very marginal visual reference, being live with the weather that was terrible in February, but still kept in the bottom of the valley and recovered to Caernavon on IFR, my first and a manic sideslip landing half way down the the runway with a 18 knot wind up my arse after breaking cloud at 1000ft over the threshold of the runway and stopped right on the taxiway exit. Was well pleased with myself.
That sounds impressive - rather you than me!
@@FastJetPerformance I flew it 4 times and Steve the instructor said there was nothing he could show you about flying other than nav and comm, which is ironic , because I always wanted to be a pilot, but I'm colour blind and that put paid to that. Saying that, I did have some time flying the Chipmunk as a kid and remember every minute. As a side note, my Mum's cousin was Ron Loweth who test flew Sptifires during the war with Alex Henshaw and flew the last one out of Castle Bromwich, a mk VIII
And your comment is very much appreciated, thank you
