Fun fact: He was working on a different song for his Christmas release. Kathy (his wife) told him no, you're doing Carol of the Bells, which he never actually planned to do. While I'm sure whatever he was planning would have been incredible, this was off the charts. He's not even very fond of this song but being the good (smart) husband that he is, he agreed to do it and we are all very grateful!
The fact it has so much care put into it even with him not being overly fond of the song speaks volumes to his respect to the craft of music that he takes the care to do the song justice. He has honor, true honor in his core. He respects the craft he carries forward in his work.
Yeah, he had his wife, Kathy, to help film. That's about it, other than Ed Boyer doing the final mix. Geoff truly is the total package, and his talents seem to know no limits. He's an amazing artist, and I've been enjoying your analysis of his music. Hope you continue to follow and analyze and react to Geoff; he will always make it worth your while.
For his videos, Geoff plans and scripts everything including the side/supportive glances between Geoffs. If when it's too complicated, Kathy directs each Geoff. Amazing to watch in their behind the scenes video. I know you've watched his tutorials. He also has some shorts/minis when he is just singing into his I-phone. No production and still gorgeous. He has been lowering his chest voice. He reached his new low, F1 or F#1 in Whiskey in the Jar with Voiceplay.
I have to say I really appreciate that you actually listened to the whole song first and then re-watched it for the breakdown. First channel to do this that I have seen. Props
What a masterpiece!!! That arrangement! That voice! So cinematic! That "Raising the sound" line, OMG, the bass coming in just a little delayed like that! And thank you for going through it first for the overall impression, and then breaking it down!!!! So many people miss important stuff when they cut at just the wrong moment!
Well, now we all know what it would sound like if a choir of dragons decide to sing a Christmas carol! 😂 I always liked this song, even if I didn't know the title (it's not very well known here in Spain, you only ever hear it in films), and it always felt borderline epic... And then came Geoff Castellucci and (big thanks to his wife Kathy! 🙌🏻🥰) turned it to something that if you switched the lyrics to Latin, it could work as the music score to an epic Tolkien-style battle, or a final boss fight in a video game!! 🤯🤯🤯
Thank you for this. This would be appropriate music for a video game. I can visualize warriors in the field ready to go into battle on a snowy day when I hear this. And I’m not even a video gamer! I think one thing that he did that really jumped out at me on this one is his very deliberate use of pauses. It builds that anticipation and gives us a little room to breathe.
Just an amazing arrangement. Apart from his phenomenal singing I was also blown away by his instrumental backing all of which he plays himself on his keyboard using plugins. Geoff truly is the complete package.
4:23 "It's.... what in the fricking world." Well said! I really enjoyed your lovely analysis of the video and Geoff's vocal techniques. I had to subscribe for more. Love to hear you do more VoicePlay and Geoff. Happy holidays!
What an absolutely adorable and knowledgeable reaction, loved it AND learned something! When l heard this the first time l felt exactly like you looked 😜 I am absolutely NOT into xmas carols, being a 60+ year old cynical mean old Mr. Grinch, but THIS l can relate to! This GOTH version of a carol, eerily haunting & sinister, but drop dead gorgeous at the same time, is definitely right up my alley! This was filmed in about half a day in a mansion for rent for events and it was just him and his wife, 'Boss' Kathy. All the decorations are their private property. Speaking of the setup, l think the blue/yellow lighting & clothes are a subtle nod to the ukrainian origin of this carol, while the broken bells in the cover art are a not so subtle nod to a nation at war, defending itself against a superior foe invading them, others call it a carol like an action movie, but l see it as a war song. I don't know, if that's Geoffs intention, but thats how l see this rendition. Thank you & happy Holidays! ❤
Geoff has done Carol of the Bells as you've never heard it before. It is epic and splendid. If you want to hear Geoff hit B0s, check out VoicePlay's Valhalla Calling.
Great reaction and tips! Thank you! Also can recommend to check out Voiceplay's (Geoff's a-capella group) Valhalla Calling! There will be a much lower notes than here) He is a monster)) Wishing a merry christmas!)
Geoff brought the dragons to serenade us this Christmas! The artwork on the cover tells it all. I love the color scheme of the decor because I believe it is a nod to the song's origin in Ukraine. He and Kathy only had a single day to get this filmed as it was done at a location that was quite expensive, so his not having to change costumes/clothing saved them time.
First time watching a reaction from you. It must be said that of all the reaction videos I've watched, I like your format the best! True reaction, letting the enrite song play through. Then the breakdown!
Geoff's singing always brings me goosebumps and shivers. I swear I feel the vibrations through my bones. His voice is amazing. I don't know much about voice skills with singing and whether it's common or not but I've listened to throat singing for awhile and I feel Geoff does this while singing. Amazing skill to have.
Thanks for this reaction to Geoff's epic Christmas release. I have run out of superlatives! A five octave vocal range is a powerful thing. I enjoy the way Geoff arranges music nearly as much as his vocals. Judging by his album art, the Geoffquakes did some damage! Yep, D1 sub is his lowest note in this video. Those tutorial videos on Geoff's channel are several years old now. As he ages, Geoff's voice does continue to get lower. He's talked about it. Within the last year or so his lowest chest note (that he'll perform in videos) has lowered from F#1 to F1. He doesn't reliably have that all of the time.
I usually am not a huge fan of Geoff. His skill is beyond judgement. However, I feel he just throws in super deep notes just because he can, and it usually throws the entire song off. What can I say I was a choir kid from 5th grade through college and note timing is super important. This arrangement was amazing! I truly enjoyed it.
I've been a Geoff/Voiceplay fan for a while now and I'm still stuck on one thing. When he puts his hand down with those low notes, is he summoning a dragon to channel or trying to hold the earth in place so his voice doesn't cause an earthquake?
Love those deep bass voices, he is amazing. Would love to see what you think of the Lyric Noel metal version of this song, it lends itself to many different cover versions
Geoff's range goes down to B0 and up above middle c (a5?). He's also the bass singer and a founding member of the Acapella group voiceplay (they're also on you-tube). Geoff covers a big chunk of his range in voiceplays cover of "Oogie Boogie's Song". Even the subtitles point out how low he goes right at the end.
Your music reactions are amazing! Have you ever thought about diving into the world of Latin R&B? There's a huge fanbase in Latin America that would love to hear your American perspective. Fabro's "Ley de Atracción" is a great starting point. Trust me, you will be hooked! And don't even get me started on his acoustic performances, they're insane!
Salutări din România ! Poate ați dori să o ascultați și pe cântăreața româno americană Laura Bretan, cântăreață de pop opera, cum ar fi " Nessun Dorma " , " O holly night " sau " Marry did you know " 😊🙋🇷🇴
Can you react to "Lonely Night" by Boohwal, please? ua-cam.com/video/ciq6IKTK1Ew/v-deo.htmlsi=jRyhHklFmdy5WVnn The vocalist of the band at the time (who is still a band member) Park Wan-kyu is a male, but his vocal range is so high that he can sing up to D#6. His voice is also so loud. He even used to be a shop every time he sang, and the lowest note didn't go below A3. (This made it hard for him to sing the band's existing songs, so the guitarist told him he had a hard time writing a song that fit him.) He literally surpassed most women. But he got a high voice because he took insecticide when he was young. His condition was bad enough to go to the hospital, but he got better. And he screamed in the mountains because he was practicing singing in high school. So his vocal cords became nodular. I'm proud of his attitude of continuing to sing even in these bad conditions. I hope you listen to and feel the vocal's songs with these touching stories.
here is one bass singer from Finland. His range is impressive. ua-cam.com/video/je8uASBaoWM/v-deo.html (His low register) ua-cam.com/video/je8uASBaoWM/v-deo.html (famous song from dire straits, sang by him and vocalist)

Deadgrl Superstar also does this.
So does David K Reacts.
Sometimes qofy and Good evening do this, depending on the songs

He fused his voice on the chorus low notes with whatever brass that is. Basically a giant, deep toned bell ringing! 🫨
hence the Carol of the bells

And halo which was his first b0
EPIC performance! Wow! Really enjoyed your reaction.
Geoff " The Dragon " Castellucci strikes again
how can that much talent fit in one guy?
I’m not entirely sure he’s human.
It can NOT, that is the reason he clones himself into up to 5 incarnations 😜😉🤣
Love the way you reacted - giving the piece breathing space and then coming back to comment. Thank you.
Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

I do believe I've finally found a "favorite" reactor. You are so genuine and refreshing, please keep up the awesomely good work 👍
This is what happens when Smaug, The Hungarian Horntail, Pete's Dragon, Nessie, and Bahamut decide to sing Christmas Carols! 🐉🐉🐲🐉🐉
