LOL, your reactions were priceless. "My floor is shaking." You have a lovely balance between a fun emotional reaction and adding intelligent thoughts about the video and vocals. I so enjoy your appreciation of Geoff's talent. Have an awesome holiday.
I'm so happy to see you coming back to listen to Geoff! This arrangement is brilliant; it reminds you that Christmas used to be mysterious as well as fun and bright. He did a similar thing to God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen a few years back, when he arranged it into a piece with drive and urgency that managed to be simultaneously darker yet more upbeat and truly joyous than the stodgy old original tune. The man truly is a musical genius.
Diction is very important as an a cappella singer, as all people in the group have to use the exact same way of shaping words for it to sound like a whole and not a muddy mess. And the vocals is ALL they have to rely on to get the music across, they have no instruments to hide behind. Geoff has been singing a cappella since high school, so he's had a lot of experience in learning how to get excellent diction even in his lower bass parts. His wife told him to do this song and make it EPIC. I think Geoff succeeded, lol! 😂😂
Dictionary is important to Geoff as well because his wife, Kathy, is losing her hearing and uses hearing aids. He takes special care with pronouncing words and also entering his own closed captions, not automatically produced.
100%, Hulda Draco. Even as a singer with over 30 years of experience, I learned so much from getting into the a cappella scene. The vowel and even consonant modification used to ensure clarity is amazing. If we listen to Geoff, the same lines sang in different registers and with different techniques can-and often do-will have different phonation modifications. He is simply a master at his craft.
Geoff arrangment of this song is wonderful. He films and edits his own videos. Only the mixing is sent to Ed Boyer. His wife Kathy does his costumes and props. Just check out the video credits. He and his wife do these all on their own most of the time.
I understand it so much. I was a singer and started loosing my hearing at 15yrs old. I was in hearing aids by 26yrs old. I don't wear them because they hurt my ears (even after three attempts to mold my ears), but all that to say that I'm around 40% deaf in both ears (mid to low range deafness) and I don't hear vowel sounds. I only hear consonants. So I quickly (in my brain) string them together to attempt to understand what is being said. Most of the time I get it right because I also lip read. But sometimes I get really odd looks from people so I just smile and hope whatever my response was, it wasn't too offensive lol.
@@SalymSkyeSpellwyck, I haven't completely lost my hearing, but severe tinnitus causes me to have an extreme loss in hearing acuity in the midrange... making conversations at quiet levels next-to-impossible. So, I understand what you are saying.
All I could think of as I watched and listened to this version of this song by him was dark rich chocolate . Dark rich colors. I found it soothing. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉😊
And that time frame includes setting up lighting, cameras, props, and positioning for the clones - and then taking it all down again as well. They have an amazing system!
This was really good. Wife and I were talking about his range and clarity, but more than anything else we were talking about your faces you make as you're watching good music. Really makes the reaction worth it just for your faces alone.
It’s good to see you back! Sometime, if you haven’t checked them out already, you might look at his minis. He has done quite a few of them. My two favorites at the moment are Trust in Me from the Jungle Book and I’m on Fire. They are both just him and a piano and that gorgeous soothing low base of his is showcased. I think he probably had to retake parts of it, but in the behind-the-scenes, he and Kathy were at Starbucks at 9 o’clock and had a 1 hour drive to get there and they were done by three. That included setting up countless little pieces of tape on the floor to show him where the cameras needed to be adjusted as they refilmed for each of the clones. Then he spent three days editing like a crazy man in order to get it out early enough. This was all over Thanksgiving weekend. Things like this don’t happen by accident, that’s for sure!
Since you asked about the 'budget' in regards to the editing. He does have a Patreon page. For those interested, the best perk you get are 'Behind the Scenes' videos each time. Same with VoicePlay's Patreon. But in the BTS for this one we learned (because the venue was so expensive) they arrived, unpacked, set lights and cameras and filmed this one in less than 6 hours. Oh, and got Geoff 'ready'. And I'm pretty sure that was more than the 5 takes to get each clone done since they spoke of the new battery packs for the cameras allowing them to move them easier. You wouldn't move a camera until all 5 versions of Geoff were filmed or you couldn't piece it together in editing. And just who is they? Just Geoff and his wife Kathy. No one else. Regarding costs of editing, Geoff does his own video editing. The man is just super talented in multiple ways. And FAST at it, too. They shot this the day before Thanksgiving and Geoff had it up on Patreon before the weekend was done.
It's nice to see him get credit for his musicianship and not just his vocal execution and the skills he and his wife has when it comes to video creation. So much talent... at least he is using it and sharing the result with us, the greatful audience. 🌹🕊
Britt, there is nothing wrong with a little Geoffquake every now and then. There is something about these acapella aliens that fills our day with so much joy.
My thought too! Must be down to a clean, healthy life style. The natural UV protection helps as well but if she had said early 20s I would have taken that for granted. Well done Britt.
I see you've met Jeff, Jeoff, Goff and Daryl! 😁 (Yes, he honored the various mispronounciations and misspellings of his names, although the loveable troublemaker Daryl got named by the fans) Thank you for your wonderful and entertaining reaction! You touched on many important things that are often overlooked by reactors and I really appreciate that. I guess they're too caught up in the emotions, blown away by Geoff's magnificent vocals and impressive skills... He really is the full package. It's amazing what he and Kathy can do together. Some videos are filmed at Pattycake Studios (owned by Layne and Tony), sometimes with Layne behind the camera and Eli in charge of lighting, but this was a "Castellucci Couple" project. Kathy knows what we love, and Geoff delivered 1000%! You'd never guess that he isn't exactly fond of the original song. This man _commits_ in full.
Highly recommend almost all his songs. I love his god rest you merry gentlemen from Geoff as well for christmas. His arrangements are phenomenal. Soglad you did a reaction to this one.
"Carol of the Bells" is a popular Christmas carol, which is based on the Ukrainian New Year's song "Shchedryk". The music for the carol comes from the song written by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914; the English-language lyrics were written in 1936 by Peter Wilhousky.
I love how they gave a nod to the Ukrainian origins with the yellow and blue setting, and his clothes. This is like a chorus of dragons serenading us from the belfry at a cathedral!!
There may be 5 Geoff's but there's only one Britt and you never disappoint I love your reactions because there real and honest...back to Geoff he really brings the saying "if you want something done right do it yourself" to life...very entertaining...Karl from eastern Canada
6:16 I think it was about here that I had to stop and look up the original. This is something beneficial about these reaction videos, introducing people to new stuff. O K now I can continue.
I'm so glad that you're back to looking at Geoff. VoicePlay also put out a cover of "Zat You Santa Claus?" that I think you might enjoy. It's too bad you missed Halloween, Voiceplay did a cover of "Thriller" that I'm sure MJ would be proud of. As an incentive, it has lots of bass and of course three guesses who does Vincent Price's monologue.
All of Geoff's (and VoicePlays') budgets come from their Patreon support. They're not tied to any record company. Thay just jakes me want to support them even more.
"Where is he getting the budget"... me. A whole bunch of me's happily support him so he can do THIS and drop one song here, one on VP, and some shorts and special videos we get to watch on Ptr every month. As it should be.
Geoff turned the Carol of the Bells into a version you have never heard before. Just epic. Remember you don't need to do the water drop screen. VoicePlay and Geoff don't have to answer to music managers like Sony.
Ok! That was freaking awesome and you were hilarious! What fun!!! Check out the cover artwork. It shows what happens to the bells after hit by Geoff's low notes. What an incredible arrangement! Will dial this up for years. Thanks.

the trick to recording something like this is his frequent cutting in the camera angle. this allows to time up the different performances and time the interactions. that said even with using that it is still a ton of work and he is probably recording each position at least 10 times.
I'm with you, Geoff's talent is unreal. As Rush Limbaugh would say "he has amazing talent on loan from God". I wish I had hair like his. Maybe he can start selling wigs for men, I would buy one. Seriously though, your reactions are genuine and to the point. Absolutely love your channel!!!!!

At the end of way down he hit jd sumners note it took about 80 tries but he hit it
@DarleneCheatham so Mr. J. D. Sumner still has the record?
@ I think actually now it is held by Tim Storms but Geoff is more melodic and pleasing to the ear
@DarleneCheatham just one more question, is this the guy that sang 16 tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford?
