Vocal Coach Reacts to VOICEPLAY - 'Nothing Else Matters' METALLICA cover (arrangement analysis)

- In this video, I react for the first time to Voiceplay and J.NONE performing a cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". In this video, I analyse Voiceplay's unbelievable vocal performance, explain and demonstrate their vocal techniques, vocal arrangement techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great.
Metallica's original song is outstanding, and having such a high-level a capella group like Voiceplay giving us their take on it is truly a blessing.
I also used some AMAZING Austrian Audio Headphones that I absolutely recommend ➡️ austrian.audio/hi-x55/
You can find them on UA-cam too: @AustrianAudioVideos

Thank you SO MUCH for the incredible support! ✨
I have a feeling you know Little Mermaid, their version is a master class. Rachel Potter does Ariel, and she did it professionally at disney for many years. Geoff is Ursula. You should do a reaction for that video.
Your neighbors must love you when you do these reaction. Haha😂😂
That is far and away the best reaction to this performance on the internet. Period.
Could not agree more. The sheer way that she emotes her way through the reaction is second-to-none!
Tha hell do periods have to with anything?
Right? Bar none!
I love her reactions. So musically informative and authentic! Have you seen her reaction to oogie boogie? It is amazing. :)
I agree, 100 %
No matter how many times Geoff slaps you in the face with a low note, it never loses its sting. THAT IS THE BEST LINE IVE EVER HEARD!
I think her line in a previous Geoff analysis is the greatest: "Dimash needs his number".
Hehehehe thank you Kenneth 💜
Voiceplay should do a feature with you!! You're the only reactor I've seen that can sing almost every part of every song, AND understand why they did it that way.youre easily as talented as the other people they've featured.
I could die very happy if that came true 🥹 thank you so much Kyle 💜
@@TheFairyVoiceMother me too! That would be an incredible performance!! But would you then have to do a reaction to yourself??🤣
lol…so true.. she is sooooo talented herself..
You have the absolute best reactions. Funny, yet extremely knowledgeable, love how excited you get over the intricacies of the arrangement.
@TheFairyVoiceMother you are freaking great in explaining music.
I was waiting for this reaction and the fairy voicemother delivered in spades. Just superb technical breakdown amidst your in flight joy. Geoff wrote this arrangement.
Please stay on the acapella train! All aboard!
I loved this reaction!!! So many things to appreciate. OK, just so you know names, next to Geoff is J.None. He was a member of the group, so you’ve heard him before (Ooogie Boogie’s song, among others). He is now singing for the Navy, and we’re all hoping he’ll come back to us when he’s done. Then there’s Eli (ELee), former rock tenor, just love his voice to pieces. Then Cesar (Seezar)-and I am so glad you gave him some love-he has such a beautiful voice. Finally we have Layne, the beatboxer, also known at least on one other occasion as VioLayne. Layne also treats us to his singing now and again.
Please do more Voiceplay. I’ve missed your reactions!
Just to be totally clear (and hopefully not obnoxious)... Eli is pronounced as is typical of the female name Ellie, just in case ELee is at all confusing. And I totally agree that hopefully they will continue to work with J. None, even if he doesn't come back formally into the group. Every one of them has a very unique voice!!
@@rdyer8764 LOL. Not obnoxious. But I had no idea the double e would confuse. Bee? Knee? 🤔
@@lkayh For me it wasn't the "ee" it was the EL. I thought it might me mistaken for the sound of EELee. (Probably I was the only one confused.)
And now that I've cleared up that crucial item, I've got a couple hours to kill before bed, so I think I'll go solve global warming. :))
@@rdyer8764 Ah. I’m thinking of the Spanish EL, as in El Salvador. LOL. But now you mention it, my niece’s name is Elis. We pronounce it EL-iss (as in kiss), and I gather it’s originally a Welsh name and the Welsh pronunciation would be EEL iss. Who knew? 🤷🏻♀️
Eli is pronounced “Ellie” because his full name is Eliezer.
The pure analytical joy on your face is infectious. You go girl and analyze the play in their voices.
More Voiceplay please. 😁
Layne is doing that 'burp' on an inhale. He demonstrated that on a webchat to Patreons. His beat-boxing was recorded separately as the guys didn't think it looked good cinematicalwise. In Warriors he DOES do it simultaneously.
So that was premeditated Burp-Boxing.
Nicely done Layne.
Yep this! Layne also did the video editing for this. So he threw in a couple of the video effects since obviously it's harder to do while playing lol! Love all of them. But Geoff and Layne both really showed us what they could do here!
@@ShieldMaidenBLS Plus I don't know about this one in particular, but most don't know Layne does most of the arranging. Perhaps an even greater talent.
@@nathanwahl9224 Voiceplay's pieces are arranged by Layne or Geoff. Both of them are brilliant in their own way. Not one I haven't loved yet.
If anyone ever gives you any guff about copyright, we will lay into them! You're not just facial expressions and a "wow!" or two. You give a detailed, professional response, backed up by joy and humour. It is absolutely it's own, beautiful thing.
You’re the sweetest, thank you so so much lovely one 💜
@@TheFairyVoiceMother 💜
This was absolutely the most fun, informative and exciting reaction I've seen. You are absolutely adorable, funny, passionate, clever, knowledgeable and technically brilliant. The editing is also magnificent. I love the little cuts to demos and effects. If you were educating the masses on, let's say, everything, (a) everyone would listen, (b) everyone would remember, and (c) we would be ruling the galaxy by now (in a lovely, friendly and musically delightful way) Thank you for making me happy and smarter, yet again.
😂😂❤❤
You are such a sweetheart Craig, thank you 💜
Kudos on a great comment, Craig! I absolutely agree with everything you said (and the way you said it)! Some serious enchantment is at work and I suspect a magic wand is being used!
So true... 🥰
Just amazing
Voice play or the Fairy voice mother
Yes!
Your videos are so superior to any other reaction videos I’ve seen. You do an incredible job! Thank you for making them.
This is the best reaction video I’ve ever seen. Like, EVER. No joke
I think Geoff and Llayne are geniuses when it comes to their arrangements. They know each others voices and capabilities inside and out and know how to bring out the best in everybody. To most Players this is the ideal line up, although they have had some really awesome guests. I'm hoping that when J. None gets out of the Navy that this becomes the permanent line up. However, they should still have guests...imo. Eli toured with a rock band before joining these guys so he was perfect for this song.
Yes and you were a complete pleasure to watch and listen to as well my sweet Fairy Voice Mother
Thinking about your reaction this morning - I follow many of VP's reactors, but you're the first that I've heard focus on the arrangement, and while their vocal skills are superb, it's always seemed to me that their arrangements are unusually good. I don't know music, so I know they grab my ears, but I rarely can pick out the magic behind what they do. All of this to say a double thank you, I learned a lot from your reaction and hope you continue to do these. Hoist the Colors, their Wicked Medley and their most recent, In My Room, all got raves for their arrangements from other musicians, but... it's a mystery to me. I just know they grab me and won't let go. If you decide you can fit any of those in it would fantastic.
Layne, the beatbox demigod, also does most of the arrangements!!! Not sure about this one. The guy does a lot of the video, and many times is the driving force behind the guys. Incredible unsung hero.
@@nathanwahl9224 Actually, Layne does almost exactly 50% of the arrangements, with Geoff doing the other half. I went through a thing a couple years back when I was trying to understand musically/technically why my ears always knew which of them arranged it. I made a spreadsheet, and eventually I counted them. It's an even split. Sometimes one or the other will do 2 in a row, but they balance out. Whoever takes responsibility for the arrangement is almost always the one responsible for creative direction and the video. I REALLY REALLY like Layne - I love his over-the-top humor, his voice, his violin, his beatboxing and his acting. He's an impeccable comic actor. According to an interview that he did a few months ago, Eli will be taking on a full 1/3 of the responsibility moving forward..
Layne is beatboxer, baritone and violinist. Loved your reaction/analysis. I have listened to nearly all 800+ of VoicePlay's videos - I'm sure I've missed a few. This is my absolute favorite - it feels so perfectly done. I hadn't heard anything by Metallica so after I heard VP, I listened to Metallica and became aware of how much they honored Metallica while making it their own. WOW - I couldn't believe my ears. If you want to hear more of Cesar, try "I Can't Make You Love Me".
I found these two songs by Voice Play done back in 2015 & they are amazing. I don't think many people have heard of them. 1. One Minute Musical ( Miley Cyrus ) music & lyrics are by Geoff Castallucci & it is hilarious. 2. One Minute Musical ( Light Bulb ) music & lyrics are by Eli & it is a fun song. Take a listen to them. I have been requesting them from just about every reactor but so far none of them will react to them. I guess that's because they aren't getting any request for them other than mine.
@@marshayoung9387 I must have found those 2 fairly early in going through VPs stuff. They are funny and definitely worth watching the science classes. I hadn't seen Stuck in Traffic. I'll help you spread the word.
This was fantastic!!! Please also consider reacting to their version of “Dream On”.
💜💜💜
I second this!
@@lkayh I can't wait for Lolli to explain all the things I can feel, but my untrained ear cannot hear! Better yet, she understands the music theory behind it. 💜
I concur!
Hands down your best reaction and breakdown yet!! Geoff arranged this one and he killed it!
Wiggly leg syncopation tutorial 100% perfect.
Hehehe I’m glad you think so 🥰
Wow, you are one great reactor. I love your breaking the parts down and singing them yourself. Marvelous. Love seeing the love of music in your face.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it Jennifer 🥰
Thank you so much for sharing your joy and awe of the arrangement. I do love watching your reactions. The beatboxer's name is Layne. He and Geoff do most of the arrangements (I believe Geoff did this one). A beautiful reaction from a beautiful reactor.
You continue to be the best, full of knowledge, and so much fun to watch, besides being so beautiful.
Usually I don't write comments on youtube. But for you, I make an exception. I like a good voice like so many others but other than that I don't have much interest in the kind of music that you review here on the channel. But your passion and joy in hearing the tracks is absolutely amazing. I love to see when people have passion for something and the joy that arises when they go into details about it. It is because of this that I love watching your videos. I came to see your review of Ren - hi ren and have watched almost all your videos since. The joy in your face and voice is a pleasure to watch. Keep doing what you do!
Surprised at your lovely alto voice - great examples and analysis. Thanks.
I don't know how I missed your reaction to this. You are so much fun to watch, the sheer joy on your face in the center section was amazing. I appreciate you so much. Geoff said this was the most difficult arrangement he's done.!
On the off chance that you are still reviewing comments, Voiceplay dropped Hellfire from Disney's version of Hunchback of Notre Dame. It is mesmerizing!
The best reaction, I've heard... Thankful.
I dearly appreciate your unique analysis of the monsters of acapella majestry (Voiceplay/Home Free/Pentatonix)! They are so incredibly amazing and so are you! I am amazed at how low you can sing for a woman. Wow. I can't wait to see your next reaction. Perhaps Silent Lucidity by Queensryche or Honeybee by Steam Powered Giraffe? Also looking forward to more collaborations with Julia Nilon or a future collaboration with the Charismatic Voice or Beth Roars!
Watching her and Elizabeth happily geeking out over a piece would be SO much fun! LOL
@@SeliahK Toss Julia in there for even more fun. A Trio of Red-heads who actually know what they are talking about. :)
I like that you don't just hear the music. You feel it with your whole body. Shows that you know what you're doing. :)
What a show this is. So happy I found you.
yes, yes, yes Voiceplay again 👏👏👏
Great reaction. Thinking this might be the first reaction I show my 4th graders. I'm trying to teach them how to actively listen to music. They've already heard the song, but I think seeing a reaction like yours, might get them thinking more critically about the music they are hearing.
Oh Rachel! That’s so exciting to hear 💜 let them know that I’m sending them all my biggest hug in the world
Well, I thought it was a lovely tutorial on syncopation! 5:24
And if you want a real 'acapella train' treat in a VoicePlay cover, give The Little Mermaid Medley a go. Geoff does something pretty special and unique toward the end of his solo that, in terms of the vocal mastery, will give you 'Oogie Boogie vibes' (not to be confused with 'boogie vibes')! 🤣
Loved your reaction- thanks so much!
Your meticulously scrumptious breakdown of that incredible performance was truly a masterclass. Whew! It is such a pleasure to incorporate more knowledge into my ever expanding musical lexicon. You are simply the best my dear. Your sheer joy was so contagious .. . So fun! . . The very best wishes for you! the double hair flip at the end . . .Vous êtes belle 💓 . . ✌🙏👍🇺🇸🇩🇰🏴☠️. Addendum. . . RECHENKA
You are so lovely Frederick, thank you for radiating so much love and positivity all the time 💜
Wow Lolli!! You sprinkled magic pixie dust on this one! Lovely reaction! I was first captivated by your reaction to Voctave's Disney Princess Medley. Now another amazing acapella reaction! Keep doing what you do my dear, you're on a roll. Along with the many good suggestions listed in these comments (like Voiceplay's Dream On), I'd love to see more Sohyang reactions. She does an amazing duet with The One (he really calls himself that), of "For A Thousand Days", which I think you would like. Of course, her performance of Bridge Over Troubled Water is iconic. Keep being you! You're a star!! 😍
I'm waving you back with my leg, now ❤ Great reaction!
Brilliant analysis of a Brilliant rendition of a Brilliant song... Thanx!
Came to this channel for the music and continue to watch for your passion and smile. Keep it up gorgeous!
Oh Miss Lolli , I LOVED 💜,LOVED💜 ,LOVED💜 your insightful analysis, physical reaction and enthusiasm of this masterpiece of production of song from Voiceplay. It made my day. You ARE the Voice Mother.
One of the best reactions I've seen to this, maybe any. Notice of all the technical details but, really feeling your emotional reaction as well. I've listened to it at least a dozen times (with headphones) and I hear new details each time. Its a masterpiece of an arrangement IMO. I'm a big Metallica fan and I think I prefer this version.
Your joy is infectious. Your reactions always make me smile.
Glorious edit work, and vocal analysis, and reaction, and nerding out, and overall video. You glorious specimen!
The detail you go into reacting to this song is insane. It's like other reactors give you a headline, or good ones give you an abstract, but you give us the whole article!
Another amazing review!!! Very detailed and instructional video done in the most funny and entertaining way! Great voice with such range, too.No one else on UA-cam like you. 👏
Thank you so much James 🥹
I love this since I first heard it, and watched most of the reactions. Yours is one of the very best, and also fun! I couldn't stop laughing since you said do-do, towards the beginning. I love your reactions!
What a great reaction and certainly entertaining and informative to watch. I have been waiting patiently for weeks for you to react to this and it was indeed worth the wait. Excellent and have a great day.
I enjoyed your reaction and analysis ALMOST as much as watching VP's masterful rendition. Brava!
I love how you hear, react physically, recreate and explain the yummy complex chords in different songs. Those chords really add so much to the feeling and impact of songs, even though most of us really don't get the how or why.😊
I love your reactions, FVM, I really find your excitement while watching and analyzing to be quite entertaining in and of itself. I am sure that you will find other Voiceplay covers to be quite incredible as well, especially Hoist the Colours, The Dragonborn Comes, and In the Hall of the Mountain King, to name a few.
Your energy is infectious , thank you for this video.
I enjoy 3x more watching your reaction than the very video your reacting to. Your edits are killer! Your commentary is beyond dope! And the entertainment value is righteously sick! Keep doing what you're doing and I'll keep watching with glee!
Fantastic reaction as always! Truly are the pinnacle of reactors.
You are such a great professional, natural teacher and gorgeously comfortable presence on camera, I always learn something from your reaction, thanks!!
Love how animated and excited you get with this reaction and rightly so. Love this channel
I will never tire of listening to your reactions. Thank you for another excellent analysis. Have a lovely day!
This was such a joy to watch!
Your facial expressions alone told of just how deeply you were loving this musical performance.
Best reaction/analysis of this performance. Loved it. Thank you for making this.
1.2k likes and 0 dislikes as of writing this. Most positive vibes of any channel on this website, I swear
I’m so lucky!! 🥰
Brilliant review!! HUGE Voiceplay fan and a big fan of you as well.
The editing on your videos is just amazing!!
Thank you, that was, by far your best reaction yet. I truly enjoyed watching the joy that Voice Play brought to you. I liked to thank you also on your explanation of Voice Play's take on this song. You put a smile on this old man's face.😀
First time to your channel and I so appreciate your analysis of this VoicePlay masterpiece. Of all those I have listened to, your teaching ability is amazing. Keep it up. It's awesome.
You are hands down my favorite reaction channel. The pure joy and enthusiasm that you have is just utterly infectious and I can't help but walk away with a smile after watching your videos
You are phenomenal! Superb explanations, and demonstrations. Thank you!
You are an absolute delight to watch..and I'm stoked you are diving into VoicePlay. Theyvare the gift that keeps on giving and it's ridiculous how talented they are!
I missed your analyses of acapella songs! So glad to see one again - and then one of the (in my opinion) masterpiece (untill now) of Voiceplay! And I absolutely love your presentation with examples of the explanations, how you show the techniques with your voice (I'm no native English speaker, so I'm missing the words a little, sorry for that). Thank you very much! 🥰
Was waiting for you to experience VioLayne! Not disappointed...
I so love your joy and enthusiasm.
I love your reactions. Technical, excitement, appreciation and just the complete love of your music.
Your are also a very lovely singer xx
I am so thankful that you not only say what is happening vocally, you also give examples. I have not had any vocal training, but I have a passion for learning. Other vocal coach reactions are great, but are clearly geared toward people who have experience and training vocally. You are teaching me by coming to my level, which is very low, and breaking things down in a way I can understand. Then you add actual audio examples to let me connect the explanation to the overall experience. You have gained my deepest respect and my subscription. I can't wait to check out more of your videos! ❤❤❤
Very animated and entertaining reaction! Great song by a great group!
"what you don't do is almost more important..." YES..!!! I have spent YEARS trying to explain this to my muso friends and they just do NOT get it. Now that I have retired from performing, I spend lots of time recording and mixing music. I spend a large amount of time, whenever someone sends me their recording to mix, figuring out what to leave out of the mix because every track of the song is jam packed with notes, chords, leads, harmonies, and the kitchen sink. If you simply mixed it all together you would have mush. When I "arrange" the song into shape by deciding what to take out then mix it and send it back. I'm always asked how I did it. It's gotten to the point where I don't even try to explain it anymore... 😎
I love your demonstrations. Seriously didn't know i was missing this in my life.
I always for each and everyone of your reactions!! Well done!!
You're so emotive during your reactions. Love the break down on the technicals. Another great one.
Your channel is so enjoyable. I love the combination of the technical analysis and education you provide along with the goofy mannerisms while providing the information.
I swear I'll watch anything you post, just saying. Your humor, cuts, and personality makes your videos the best. Throw in how you use words I know and explanations that can follow (since I have zero rhythm and can't carry a tune no matter how hard I try).
Would love to see you react to VoicePlay’s version of We Don’t Talk About Bruno!
you have such a beautiful way of articulating the mastery you’ve achieved in your artistry, The Charismatic Voice and you yet so different are both such a gift to all of us who enjoy what you do. With tears in my eyes I say thank you.
I've been hoping for another VoicePlay reaction forever! Worth the wait, though. Highly recommend VP's Warriors (more VioLayne!), Hoist the Colors and Queen in 5 Minutes!
Such a great reaction! Thank you for explaining the funky syncopation near the end, I’d been wondering what was going on there. And the legtronome definitely needs to become a thing 😂
I know nothing about singing or music, but I do so appreciate what appears to be YOUR ability to hear so much going on....and you seem to know what you are on about....you appear to have massive technical knowledge of music and singing. It's so good to find a "Reacts to...." person that knows so much and can hear so much going on. Thank you
I love your reactions, so much heart and soul is given to us viewers, and you truly break down the pieces better than anyone i have seen. You really should try the In the hall of the mountain king that Voiceplay did some time ago (No words, of course as it is a orchestral work by Edvard Grieg) It is also a hoot to watch as they are all dressed for the occasion.
Looked like at the end there, you were about ready to just roll over, light up and watch the late show!😀
hey what a great reaction! you've done a very good job making me understand what is going on!
Geoff is not only an incredible singer but also an amazing arranger!
MAN, I love your reaction videos sooo much. I can't wait for you to do more Voiceplay! They have soo much that is sooooo good. This one though is my absolute top favorite. Another good one is their cover of I can't make you love me.
I absolutely loved your reactions to Home Free. How about another one? Please...
I get the distinct impression that your new headphones have awakened an entirely different musical beast within you. This reaction has taught me more about music than all of the other musical reactions I have watched online combined.
This is absolutely the best reaction to this VP song I’ve seen. The enthusiasm is wonderful. Thank you.
Fantastic reaction, Lolli. Perfect example of how to enjoy music. The analysis was informative and engaging.
This is fantastic! Well done!
Your enthusiasm is addictive!
A few weeks ago I randomly stumbled upon the beatboxing world and a few days later I found your reaction channel! And I'm super glad I did.
You truly are the best vocal coach on this platform and I love your style, your energy, your thirst for new experiences. And you know what sets you apart from other content creators? It's your sheer knowledge of music production, harmony, anatomy and vocal technique! And your interest in lesser-known, exotic techniques. Not only in beatboxing but here too, for example, with subharmonics and all this pharyngeal talk I love so much.
All this flattery aside, I come here to ask you for more beatbox reaction videos. Hehehe. Shameless, I know. But as a phonetics/linguistics graduate, I'm super interested to hear your opinions and analyses on those otherwordly sounds and techniques. Especially so that I can better transcribe and reproduce them :)
But anything would be highly appreciated, really. You content is marvellous. Thanks for reading this lord-of-the-rings-unabridged-edition-long comment and I hope you have a great Sunday! Kisses from France
Awhhh you darling human thank you so so much!! I do love a bit of pharyngeal talk 😍 there will be loads and loads more reactions to beatbox performance. I make a new analysis every week 💜 lots of love always
Geoff hits harder with earphones, doesn’t he? 😂
You need to listen to their cover of “In My Room”. Just trust me.
You're fast becoming my favorite music reactor. I love your personality and humor and musical knowledge, and you're a damn fine singer.
Love your reactions, especially your break down of a capella. Would love to see you react to Home Free's cover of Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms.".
This is a wonderful reaction, it's so cool to hear about all the techniques they're using!
You always make me smile with your enthusiasm :)
hi, Lolli)) another video and again a masterpiece) I can't tear myself away from the screen, I try to blink less so as not to miss anything)) You're the best, I love you...❤️
Another brilliant Video from the best in the business ❤ I’ve missed the acapella train . x x
HAHA I LOVE YOUR REACTION!! I looked it twich in a row with a big smile on my face! love your pure energy, it's almost that you can touch it! LOVE IT!!! 👍👍👍👍😍😍
