randomly ran into this video, I can say that this is well done, good job and thank you for researching, compiling, writing, editing, and sharing this story of history, it may seem insignificant in the grand scheme, but what you made still matters, after all its a show of your effort, and that is priceless.
hey dude i know your probably not gonna see this video but youre one of my favourite youtubers ever and you got me into tf2 and i just wanna say keepup the good work dude
whats worse is that he is that incredible at rocket jumping, it was realistically just technicalities for world record times and not bothering to work as hard on a map as he could have also, love the twangs of outer wilds music that were subtle at the end! it sparked in my brain the moment i realised what it was
Saw this come up in chat while watching a jumping stream. I got to learn about Boshy's shenanigans from friends who are/were jump admins, so I am seriously impressed to learn even more from this video. It was also very well researched, paced, and put together. Bonus points for staying objective! Well done :)
Amazing video! It's really good to have a video format of the history of Boshy, both because of how intriguing it is and because the information is way more accessible to everyone about the whole story this way.
Oh man... the rocket jump maps were really the evolutions from the conc jumping maps from original TF. The demand for fun skill-based tech, (like surf in CS even), has been high for most valve games. This was a great montage and mini-documentary.
Wonderful video! I'm really glad you have made Boshy's history in a video format, as more people outside of jump may find it interesting and also It's way more accessible to both people who jump and those who don't.
Thank you very much for making this video, it's great to see some quality jumping lore! I have a few little things to add: 1) 3:17 - and he actually got a 2:11 offline run on this map 2 years later! 2) During the first ban all of Boshy's bonus times were wiped, only map and course times were left. After that he was still extremely far ahead on the soldier leaderboard by more than 100k (maybe even 150k, don't remember exactly) points. 3) After the full wipe the community made a list of Boshy WRs for reference. I think it's quite a thing on tempus network right now to try to beat those WRs :) Currently there are 40 WRs left to beat, including offline runs and some demoman WRs. Some of them (like apex) are very close to unbeatable. 4) 22:32 - it was not just his first time set, it was his first RUN in the tournament after a small start reset.
As someone who knew NOTHING about the scene or this entire story, despite being into rocket jumping, I really appreciate how objective you were and how you aimed to tell the story as it happened.
Enrapturing video on a small but dedicated community. I’m impressed by how Boshy has been able to come clean and keep on jumping, I hope he is able to come back to earning world records and accept that he can’t always win them all.
I liked the video, the edits, music, sound effects, video clips and just the whole story of boshy, I felt that I really learned something and this is the first time I cam across this channel and I love these type of story commentaries. You are heavily underrated
I actually recall this when i read almost the full story on jumptf forum during COVID year (obviously). My favorite one was the fact about reero's entire video about this incident (mostly "the ballad of the boshy" titled). About his rng bhop statement. This is similar to how Minecraft speedrunner would ended up cheating because it's greatly involved based on luck. Anyway, nice to have this uploaded. My favorite jump content creator so far! ^^
Awesome video essay Awesomely laid out and even though I’m not even involved in TF2 or the community, I loved watching this and you kept it interesting the whole way though! Thanks!
I love how much Risk of Rain 2, Terraria, and Calamity Mod's music is being used in videos. They all make such amazing music and I'm glad they get the recongnition they deserve. Also, great video!
Recognition doesn't pay the bills. You're literally doing the paying with exposure thing. The musician who produced the RoR2 soundtrack hates that people use his music in videos without paying him.
reminds me of riolu a trackmania player that was on top of the game, even got hired by the developpers to set some pro times for players to beat turns out he was slowing down the game using cheat engine in some of the runs, but unlike Boshy, he vanished kind of ruined the "accessibility" side of the game since now you need to apply a patch to it
I love and appreciate how you portrayed Boshy as not a character in a story, but a real human that deserves to be treated like one. Too many stories of 'legends' in a community portray them as something larger than life and it's easy to worship them by the end of the video or demonize them. You did a great job at showing what happened, making Boshy still feel human by the end, and have the viewer accept everything that has happened yet still hope for something better in the future. Fantastic video, hope you make more of these.
Very interesting story. It’s nice to see a cheater actually admitting that they did it, accepting the punishment and retribution, having actual plausible reasoning for why they did it that doesn’t sound them just making things up to get forgiveness, AND having the actual skills to still claim WRs without cheating, just with a little more grinding.
Boshy dug his heels in, vehemently denied further cheating and used admin privileges to destroy evidence. If it wasn't for the tempus detectives he wouldn't have admitted to anything, only acknowledging a cheated run once it was a fact. As pointed out in the video, no one knows if he's cheated in ways that are not possible to detect. It's obvious from past behaviour he would never admit it if he did.
@@McskillWhile of course true, I do believe his reasoning for why he cheated which I think is interesting. The entitlement over the records shows at least some ability to self reflect which from a human perspective is good.
@@McskillThe guilt and the punishment might have given him a lesson, changing him. If he didn't get caught, he would still be entitled and wouldn't change. That's how being a human works. Just because in alternative he is still entitled doesn't mean he is horrible here. Sometimes you need the punishment to change and time to think about it.
@@tridos2574 Perhaps Boshy is a better person today, I don't know. I just feel like saying "It's nice to see a cheater admitting to what they did..." Is, while not untrue, kinda misrepresenting what went down.
@@Mcskill Yeah, I get what you mean. Sometimes, they don't really mean it when they admit things. Sometimes, they do it so the situation doesn't snowball harshly on them. Plus, a cheater admitting of cheating is a bit common.
Amazing video!! I actually was grinding a lot on tempus maps when all of this happened , so I already knew almost all of the story, but it felt great watching and hearing everything you told in the video, specially the boshy's thoughts part. Love rocket jumping and thus is part of the history of it.
"The source engine is home to some of the best and most skill-expressive movement in all of gaming" It's also home to some of the most baffling spaghetti in all of gaming, but that's neither here nor there.
Okay guys, i see a lot of people praising how he handled the situation. But here is the timeline: Boshy denied everything at first. Then when more evidence came, he said he only cheated a few bonuses. Then when more evidence came, he admitted to cheating many bonuses but only bonuses. Then a looong time after that (and more evidence), he finally admits cheating courses as well.
Great video, it's insane just how dominant boshy was, at one point, he had 300k points on just soldier, which was almost 200k over second place... not to mention he was also one of the top demo jumpers. By the way, he also reran jump_jurf offline just like apex, his time offline was actually 2:11
With how good they seem to be, and how well they seem to have introspected to be able to explain exactly why they cheated, I think that they could make a comeback and earn some trust again. Only time will tell, though.
I can relate with his explanation. I do stuff with that in singleplayer games like terraria all the time, and at first you say to yourself "oh i'll just do it once". Then it becomes an addiction
Cheating in single offline player is fine by me. I do it a lot. I don't play multiplayer anyway but if I did I wouldn't cheat. You're playing about (emotions etc) with something that affects other people.
there's one karl jobst video amongst many about cheating. I can't recall exactly how he phrased it, but he said experienced players don't cheat to get a fast time, they cheat to get a time faster it may seem paradoxical, but good players are more likely to cheat, the better they are, the more likely cheating is
This man's track record of world records reads like a description of the feats of a mythological demigod, not some dude playing a now 16 year old game.
A good way to explain why these top quality players cheat is. if you had to do something that took 9 hours no matter what, but then had 1 minute of actual skill based gameplay, but that 9 hours could randomly kill the run based purely on bad RNG. Yes a good player could get world record, but so could a random who just gets lucky. and a world record runner could take countless runs to get the lucky run. So some will just cheat to skip to the actual skill based moments.
Damn, music from Furi, Bastion, Celsete, Rain World, AND Outer Wilds in this video? Always good to see those games get some recognition, especially for their soundtracks!
This kind of essay is incredibly important for the gaming community as a whole. Thank you for putting so much effort into it. You're doing great, and as a communicator I am glad to see you addressing every fallacy when judging things like this.
I saw Boshy once while I was playing on a jump map late one night. He was on Demoman and seemed to be hovering, air-stickying across the map at around 1000mph. That always stuck in my mind, especially since I had been struggling heavily on the jump.
I love this story as it shows what actually happens in our world. Boshy getting legit #1 on Tempus put a lot of pressure on him and I think he only needed some moral support. It's sad that he chose the wrong path but I still love his story, him admitting to allegations yet still not leaving the game but take it less seriously. I hope Boshy gets another legit #1 and that he'd keep it for much longer, if hes not going to get bored
just here to comment to help this in the algorithm :p also cuz it's really cool to see this covered, as someone who always watches Rocket Jump Weekly vids cheers !
I think this has a chance to really pop in the algorithm. People really eat up these little esports docs. I hope it does too, it's a great way to get the word out about jumping
I get the entitlement part, but this isn't really a case of manipulating RNG to skip grinding to get records quicker. Adjusting the start/end points would be like if Dream reduced the Ender Dragon's health to attain a faster time.
Great video! This has needed to exist for a long time now and you did a great job of being objective but also entertaining. Also since it wasn't made super clear in this video, after boshy's original 3 month ban quite a few months passed where he was unbanned and actively playing on tempus setting new wrs. During this time period he had no admin powers so it would have been basically impossible to cheat map wrs (was banned from playing bonuses). Also during this time he would set his all of his most prestigious wrs offline (apex, jurf, jurf2, omega, rebound and gateway etc.), and as these runs were streamed we can say with 100% confidence they weren't cheated (incase anyone was wondering). These runs are also considered to be his most 'unbeatable' wrs, and are so far ahead of the community's general skill level it's honestly insane. Also in terms of being the most prolific cheater I'd actually argue that the demo player Jorge cheated far more than boshy, with 50+ cheated bonus wrs I believe (mostly using macros to bhop and some people believe to triple pre too). Maybe a good follow up to this video :P
Really good and objective Video. *Spoiler ig* I think the descision to whipe all his records is justified, but I also hope Boshy proves he is able to change and regains trust
There's no real way to fumble his return given he no longer has a way to cheat. If anything, he'll be called a dick if he continued his affinity for having runs taken from him
I think that he'll be called a dick if he acts like one, but a decent amount of his ledger will be cleaned if he comes back and reasserts his dominance in some way, shape or form (which, given how he was able to break records practicing for an event, could well be done by accident).
TF2 is one of my favorite multiplayer shooters but I don't have any attachment or any sort of affinity towards rocket jumping like a lord. So it's quite a surprise that I enjoyed watching this vid a lot. The vid was brief enough, well paced, presented relevant info and had good b-roll footage to keep my brain and eyes hard-wired to the screen when the vid was playing. Boshy's story is a similar tale to many perfectionists growing tired of the relentless grind towards something that is unfairly indecisive and mostly based on luck, like many other achievements and goals in this reality. So at one point you grow exhausted in the face of something that frustrates the everliving shit outta you and so you cave in and say "Fuck it." It's a sympathetic disposition that we can all sort of relate to. We don't have unlimited resolve and sometimes just cave in sooner rather than later, but it always happens, none of us are absolved from exhaustion and taking the easy way to fulfillment, even if it's a bitter and unsatisfactory pill of fulfillment to take in.
I definitely think that his skill is highly impressive, which nobody wouldn't say that. However him not only abusing admin power to cheat but most of all; blocking people because they are threatening his times shows a serious flaw in character that I hope he reflects on if he hasn't.
I am a little flabbergasted this guy is allowed to eventually come back at all and is even welcome at tournaments. As you say yourself, speedrun communities like these are entirely trust-based and after stuff like this you are done for good if you ask me.
His redemption arc is just perfect. He was the best, but got caught cheating, which completely nullified his records, his reputation and absolutely kicked him out from world records, but he got back by dominating a competition with his own unrivaled skill. Anime plot worth
Gotta say. I agree with the admins, records are valid on trust, and there's no way to know if boshy may or may not have utilized some way that really was undetectable.

randomly ran into this video, I can say that this is well done, good job and thank you for researching, compiling, writing, editing, and sharing this story of history, it may seem insignificant in the grand scheme, but what you made still matters, after all its a show of your effort, and that is priceless.
hey dude i know your probably not gonna see this video but youre one of my favourite youtubers ever and you got me into tf2 and i just wanna say keepup the good work dude
I saw 👀
Thanks!
theyre not gonna see their own video...? what?
i dont know why i put video there lmao meant the comment
whats worse is that he is that incredible at rocket jumping, it was realistically just technicalities for world record times and not bothering to work as hard on a map as he could have
also, love the twangs of outer wilds music that were subtle at the end! it sparked in my brain the moment i realised what it was
Saw this come up in chat while watching a jumping stream.
I'm really glad you have made Boshy's history in a video format, as more people outside of jump may find it interesting and also It's way more accessible to both people who jump and those who don't.
myself spotted at 1:41 i made it pog more jump history videos please this was so good
i had no idea rocket jumping had this type of lore, great video!
Thank you very much for making this video, it's great to see some quality jumping lore!
I have a few little things to add:
1) 3:17 - and he actually got a 2:11 offline run on this map 2 years later!
OUTSTANDING video, i love the style of editing and script writing you have, very nice to watch
Love this style of video. Really shows the lengths you go to to make this high quality content. Keep up the good work my man!
That thumbnail looks very familiar... I will be sending my lawyers.
Jokes aside, this was a great video, nice job man.
:3
Beautiful video about jumping combined with the calamity soundtrack gives me a feeling I can't describe. Very good video!
Oh God more jumping videos please this was amazing. Good structure to it, good flow, well spoken. Nice video brother

this sounds like some shit that king candy from wreck it ralph would do
Awesome video essay
Awesomely laid out and even though I’m not even involved in TF2 or the community, I loved watching this and you kept it interesting the whole way though! Thanks!
great video! shame you're british :(
So very sad
Yeah, it’s a shame that he’s British and your from the Uk
At least hesnot french
least toxic internet humour
Bruh 😭
That why NEVER give admin to the best player
Think the bigger problem here is that he was the only admin.
this is such a good video. easily one of my favorite tf2 video essays i’ve seen!!
I love how much Risk of Rain 2, Terraria, and Calamity Mod's music is being used in videos.
They all make such amazing music and I'm glad they get the recongnition they deserve.
Also, great video!
song name at 5:23??

Recognition doesn't pay the bills. You're literally doing the paying with exposure thing. The musician who produced the RoR2 soundtrack hates that people use his music in videos without paying him.
You can say that one may Wanna Be The Boshy
Absolutely fantastic, high quality content as always. I always look forward to an upload, never know what I'm gonna get but it never disappoints.
reminds me of riolu
a trackmania player that was on top of the game, even got hired by the developpers to set some pro times for players to beat
turns out he was slowing down the game using cheat engine in some of the runs, but unlike Boshy, he vanished
kind of ruined the "accessibility" side of the game since now you need to apply a patch to it
This was an awesome video. Nicely done!
Unfortunately, cheaters usually never learn, especially not when they have the kind of attitude that Boshy has towards competition.
Love rocket jumping and thus is part of the history of it.
how do small tf2 youtubers create the best, most interesting and well made videos on random, niche topics like this. incredible
"The source engine is home to some of the best and most skill-expressive movement in all of gaming"
It's also home to some of the most baffling spaghetti in all of gaming, but that's neither here nor there.
Going through the comments on this video is some hard nostalgia. Lotta familiar faces here.
Absolutely amazing video. The effort that went into this is insane. I didn't know, that this happend, thank you!
Damn, you just like Sherlock! This is amazing. Thanks for the greatest content
i've been waiting for jumper documentaries for like 6 years it's finally happening
Thank you for giving the long form commentary videos the jumping community needs!
It is nice to hear that he acknowledged it, and owned up to it, but deleting all of his runs was the right thing to do, zero tolerance
Okay guys, i see a lot of people praising how he handled the situation. But here is the timeline:
Boshy denied everything at first. Then when more evidence came, he said he only cheated a few bonuses. Then when more evidence came, he admitted to cheating many bonuses but only bonuses. Then a looong time after that (and more evidence), he finally admits cheating courses as well.
Its exact same story every time really.
(3:42) Music played here is Crabulon's theme from the Calamity mod for Terraria, for those wondering.
Also good vid!
Great video, it's insane just how dominant boshy was, at one point, he had 300k points on just soldier, which was almost 200k over second place... not to mention he was also one of the top demo jumpers.
By the way, he also reran jump_jurf offline just like apex, his time offline was actually 2:11
shart shart shart
this is the main reason im scared to start speed running seriously, but mad respect for admitting to all of it and being cooperative in the end
Man, what an amazing storytelling!
The setup, the unwrapping, the downfall, and the redemption.
Truly the definition of "absolute power corrupts absolutely"
With how good they seem to be, and how well they seem to have introspected to be able to explain exactly why they cheated, I think that they could make a comeback and earn some trust again. Only time will tell, though.
I can relate with his explanation. I do stuff with that in singleplayer games like terraria all the time, and at first you say to yourself "oh i'll just do it once". Then it becomes an addiction
Cheating in single offline player is fine by me. I do it a lot. I don't play multiplayer anyway but if I did I wouldn't cheat. You're playing about (emotions etc) with something that affects other people.
Simply put there exists a conflict of interest between Boshy as a player and Boshy as an admin.
there's one karl jobst video amongst many about cheating. I can't recall exactly how he phrased it, but he said experienced players don't cheat to get a fast time, they cheat to get a time faster
it may seem paradoxical, but good players are more likely to cheat, the better they are, the more likely cheating is
I love Boshy The Jump anime. Thanks for covering it.
this is such a great video, man. thank you for making this
This man's track record of world records reads like a description of the feats of a mythological demigod, not some dude playing a now 16 year old game.
Man shoutout to Boshy for owning up to the little demon we all have inside of us. And shoutout to Htwo for this summary
Damn, music from Furi, Bastion, Celsete, Rain World, AND Outer Wilds in this video? Always good to see those games get some recognition, especially for their soundtracks!
"I wanna be the Boshy"
"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain"
Hello i ran beginnings five, boshy lost the live race which means he did not win every rocket jumping race in the tournament. We must never forget
Your closing statements about being impartial was awesome. This really should be the staple of videos like this so as to not cause witch hunting.
It's Boshy Time!
Just getting into TF2 and didn’t realise this was a thing until now. Cheers for the video
I hope Boshy gets another legit #1 and that he'd keep it for much longer, if hes not going to get bored
just here to comment to help this in the algorithm :p
also cuz it's really cool to see this covered, as someone who always watches Rocket Jump Weekly vids
cheers !
0:55 it wasn't for touching kids is it
Was almost expecting it, youtubers and celebrities keep being exposed as pedos. Glad it was actually something normal for once.
Watching well documented stuff on jump is exciting. You did well just laying out the information. I like.
The research, presenting was godlike tier in this video! love it.
I think this has a chance to really pop in the algorithm. People really eat up these little esports docs. I hope it does too, it's a great way to get the word out about jumping
you should make a video about DonnySS, the worst rocket jumper of all time
I get the entitlement part, but this isn't really a case of manipulating RNG to skip grinding to get records quicker.
Maybe a good follow up to this video :P
omega? i think u mean ultra brother
I knew jorge had cheated but i had no idea it was that much holy shit
bro wrote a paragraph zzzz
@@riotbz oh true
boshy simply was so good that he was given admin and with that new found power was able to things nobody else could do
Really good and objective Video.
*Spoiler ig*
I think the descision to whipe all his records is justified, but I also hope Boshy proves he is able to change and regains trust
Actual comedy when Boshy was changing the starting and end lines with a sign about furry yiff lmao
What do you expect from a furry 😂
I am a little flabbergasted this guy is allowed to eventually come back at all and is even welcome at tournaments. As you say yourself, speedrun communities like these are entirely trust-based and after stuff like this you are done for good if you ask me.
I liked the part where boshy said, if given the opportunity he'll likely cheat again.
Rocket jumping is cool but I only know how to jump up
Aim further away from you or at a vertical wall/object to alter the angle of the jump.
Excellent video. I only know tf2 through UA-cam and jump maps are barely on my radar at all. You did a wonderful job of explaining foreign concepts in a simple and comprehensive way.
