@@7_dropademon i suggest you to go and buy the jim root instruction video by fret12 or watch some live videos and then you'll see that jim is harmonise the intro of the song. Until then, SHUT UP ALL OF YOU!!!!
I've never really understood why people are surprised that sticking ridiculously powerful active EMG pickups in a telecaster sounds heavy, the body shape isn't going to turn everything into country
I wouldn't say that's him forgetting. Pinch harmonics can sound cool but they can really be hit or miss. If you want the exact same sound every time you attempt to do the same pinch harmonic, you have to find where exactly you played it before, also, your guitar and the effects, amp, and cab can also greatly affect the sound and positioning of the pinch harmonic.
At the beginning, you can hear a quiet "go". Some say it was merely a person behind the cameras. I say it was Corey's muffled "go" from Before I Forget reaching forward from the darkest recesses of Jim's mind.
He's allowed to forget. With all the Slipknot, Stone Sour and songs he just likes to play it's a lot to remember. I used to know a couple hundred songs. I'm lucky if I remember 50 of them. Look at bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, they're always having to relearn their own songs. Hence why they usually play them differently because they pretty much tab their own songs by ear.
To be fair most musicians are like this from what I've seen. Especially the ones who have as many songs as Jim does to remember. Ive seen videos where they come up with the set list and have to relearn the songs because they haven't played them in years
Can’t believe when this song came out I was like “oh shit slip knot has a comeback” as a teenager being a fan of their 90’s stuff and now I’m just in the same bandwagon of “fuck, this song came out like 10 years ago..”
I like the band thing on his picking hand. I want one, I'd think it help me alot from losing grip of the pick during songs. I wonder where I could find one.
in the full magazine lesson, he states he in not "a learned guitar player" and that he just improvises most solos live. with no practice before an actual show
I never said I was better than him, nor did I take credit for the creation of any part of the song. However, I have personally tabbed out riffs that are at least 2x as intricate. Any one who has played for over a year wouldn't be surprised by this, since this song is exceptionally simple. I know now that the guitar was in a different tuning, (drop B) instead of drop A. I give him props for knowing to play 2 frets higher up on the neck, but that doesn't make him a genius.
@V3xify yea if you take a look at where his fingers are you will obviously see he is playing the correct notes, its the pinch harmonic that throws him off. Hes trying to find the ''sweet spot'' to hit the harmonic.
@Mayfield1114 you re right about that. The centipede began to fall the day he tried to understand how it walks...forgive my poor english...and if you don't believe me i shot it, look at the other videos i did, and specially "Alela Diane" which has no logos (i'm the only one that could have this version, before been released in the DVD with the logos). In the same room we shot Rob Flynn too (machine head). We did Phil Demmel (machine head too) but this video has not been released on DVD yet.
That's not completely true... I have his $1200 flat white fender telecaster and it has an ebony fretboard. When this one has a maple one like his black model...
kitramsey5150 exactly this. It's the same reason why a lot of musicians will say they need to go learn their songs when they put out new albums before they tour. A lot of playing guitar is just muscle memory
@tgei346 Its pinch harmonic , squeals . When you pick the string you slightly touch it with your thumb and bend the string, also make sure your distortion(gain etc.) is high. theres great lessons on here, hope it helps.
@MetalMakesMeEargasm Actually Jim AND Mick fuck up the solo pretty good with several notes when they play live in a video on youtube (But the song goes about x1.5 original speed so I don't blame them, and I can't play the solos in that song at all!)
WTF i mean the all hope is gone tour, and i know they ve been tourin since 1999and no a mate recommended them to me 3 years agoo and i ve loved em since :)
as a guitar player im going to say that he was playing it right its just the amp he was using that made it sound really different. he probably had his telecaster along with some random amp they had for this video instead of his whole guitar rig. remember its not just the guitar and your skills that is important but it is also the gear you use. any famous guitar player will tell you that. the gear is what creates the sound along with the guitar pickups. combine those with skill and there you go.
