I’ve got to say. I found this channel a few weeks ago. Working out has always been so difficult for me and one of the reasons was it can be so overwhelming to figure out what to do and what works out which muscle. But your content is not only entertaining but also informative. You give objective analysis and just SAY what is good and what is bad. What is myth and what is reality. That demystified working out for me and now I’m on my third week in a row of doing 3-4 workouts a week. I’m already noticing some small muscle growth and I’ve made a workout tracker to keep me on track for the next six weeks. So thank you for helping me take the first REAL steps toward losing weight and getting healthy. Although I still have a long way to go and my goal is not to be big, just healthy, I’m more confident than I’ve ever been that I can do it. So thanks Dr. Mike. Truthfully.
While we're on the topic of the strangeness that is Swedish, the word for married and poison is the same in Swedish: gift, pronounced "yift" Furthermore, Swedish grammar is an absolute pain in the ass since there are almost as many exceptions as examples for every grammatical rule, if there is even a rule at all, as is the case with our version of a/an. There is literally no rule for it, but you WILL be viewed as a weirdo if you get it wrong.
@3dprinting: Actually, Swedish is one of the easiest languages in the world to learn because the grammar is very easy compared to others. This is the present tense of „walk“ im Swedish for example: Jag går / Du går / Han går / Vi går / Ni går / De går Compared to German: Ich gehe / Du gehst / Er geht / Wir gehen / Ihr geht / Sie gehen Could go on and on 🤓
@@Pile_of_carbonIn old english the gift/gif used to exist, up until they decided to borrow "mariage" from french. But the gift/gift actually has a reason, germans. "Gift" in the sense of poison was originally an euphemism, basically in the sense of "something malicious was gifted" "Gift" in the sense of marriage is "gifted at a bride". Just that both forms has been around for a bit more than a millenia. This was today's random knowledge.
Excellent video! Really loved all the advice on getting a deep stretch and the comprehensive explanation on why it’s very important and how to get it efficiently and benefit from it. The video is extremely entertaining and informative from start to finish! Phenomenal stuff. 👍💪🙏
6:05 - Hahaha, that’s pewdiepie’s own brand of gaming chairs by the way, he made that chair and the company, and one of the main selling points he would always meme was that it can basically recline to completely flat hahaha, and I love that he was right, people love that feature!
@@Ryan-gb3ik okay thanks for correcting me… sorry that I don’t know the legal details in regards to pewdiepie’s unique gaming chair he sells. Because of the way pewd’s would always make sure to mention it (aka market it) each UA-cam video, I just figured that pewd’s owned the company selling the gaming chairs so that he was making maximal profit from each gaming chair sale. I guess whatever his contract is with the gaming chair company that’s making/selling his unique gaming chair design + pewdiepie’s brand / UA-cam persona, it basically must be way too expensive to try to start a gaming chair company from scratch, so after punching in the numbers, he figured out it would be way to much work / way to expensive to do it all by himself from scratch. So he partnered with clutch chairz for the project, as they already have all the infrastructure set up and ready to go, only needing to input the chairs pewdiepie graphics, and tweak the desigh so it can recline all the way to flat / 180 degrees. All that stuff is besides the point though, because it doesn’t matter if pewds started a chair brand from scratch or if he collaborated with an existing chair brand to create a unique pewdiepie branded gaming chair… at the end of the day, pewds does have a unique gaming chair piece of merchandise he can advertise and sell.
This is exactly what I needed! I only have a bench and dumbbells in my house and I wasn't sure if that was enough to build a sufficiently fit body. After watching this and taking in Dr. Mike's advice I'm more confident in it now. Thanks!!
Ironically hypertrophy needs less equipment than increasing total strength. If your goal is to get the strongest possible legs the dumbells quickly run into a problem of being very annoying to rack for heavy ATG heel elevated front squats. Even from just the floor, the barbell ends up being easier to rack for this.
I've been working out for a year and I don't have access to a gym all the time. A pair of dumbbells is really all you need if you want to shape up your physique. Maybe as you get more advanced get a pull up bar and some resistance bands but beyond that you really don't need anything else. You don't even need a lot of weight on the dumbbells either. There are plenty of techniques and form changes you can do to make an exercise more difficult with the same weight. Hell, plenty of people built really good-looking bodies with bodyweight exercises alone. "I don't have the equipment at home and the gyms are far away and expensive" is an excuse.
Dr. Mike, I just wanted to thank you because this might be the first moment of my life where I was legitimately interested in muscular exercising. You must be a wizard
Can you imagine a collab between these two, where Dr.Mike teaches and trains PewDiePie? That would be sports science education that could reach a massive audience.
I like them both, but their humour types are a bit too different, I think. It would be a bit awkward. Just look at this video when PewDiePie cracks jokes and it flies right over Dr. Mike's head (not that there's anything wrong with that)
Pewdiepie’s humor is self-aware and purposefully silly, part of it is the self-awareness of the culture he has come to represent in a way; gaming nerd culture(cring). Realistically, He’s probably one of the least delusional creators on the platform and always authentically trying to improve himself. I would love to see him making a react to this for sure. Also. Yes Mike hop on twitch! Hafthor streams, martins has a channel, and Knut is “the guy” with bodybuilding on Twitch.

I appreciate that Scott the Video Guy giggles at the appropriate times. It makes the videos more funny than they are. It's like canned applause at the studio just more organic 👍🏾
Some context on the pewds. The reason for the dumbbell only setup is cause Felix tries, to a point, to be minimalist. On top of that he was waiting to move to Japan, but borders were closed due to covid, so he didn't want to keep buying stuff when eventually he was going to move. Now that he has moved, his setup isn't much bigger, he has a bench, dumbbells and a power rack(?) for some barbell work and pull-ups. For gfuel, it's probably his biggest sponsor and it's a powder energy (140mg caffeine*)(supplement, so big *). Usually it's pretty clear that he's joking when he makes inane claims, like you can't say "you will win 1 million dollars", but you can say "you might win 1 million dollars" and give away nothing, because then it's a statement of chance, not necessarily of a giveaway. So usually I expect he'd say "drink gfuel and you might get 10% muscle growth" while making a face that makes it pretty clear he's joking, or saying something before or after that shows he's about to or just made a joke. But honestly I watch him enough and turn off my brain when sponsors are mentioned so I wouldn't register it if he didn't do it. All the bias. Either way, finally a workout reaction to someone I follow, so figured I'd chime in, haha.
You really overexplained his joke about G-Fuel hahaha. Of course it was a joke, and the way he says it so "plainly" with no facial expressions, is part of the dry delivery that he does a lot.
Oh my gosh, for the whole life I've been watching content in my mother tongue language but now I'm a happy owner of B2+ English and this video is almost the best what I've seen ever in sport industry. I don't know why UA-cam didn't recommend me this before. Pretty funny video, with lots of useful advices, analytics and epic, short and not that annoying ad. Like + sub. Great job man!
Hammer Curls legit made my biceps get a peak. They were just huge log shaped .. I'm 6'7 so I have long arms. When I started to do hammers, the peak in the middle came out of no where and made my arms look so much better.
I've always heard basic curls with a pinch of external rotation to it target the distal head of the bicep for more peak development. Could be old school broscience that makes sense logically but not scientifically but something to consider. I can see my bicep split when i get to the end contracted range of motion on it. I prefer hammer curls just for the alleged strength crossover for building up to one arm chinups.
@@justinbailey2347 So theoretically according to science, external or internal rotation at the elbow would bias the different heads of the biceps. In practice this is so negligable that it would only matter and be seen if you've got Lee Priests arms and stage bodybuilding condition. You cannot specifically build up the peak, only make your arms bigger and even then some humungous bis with long insertions might still not have a peak.
Felix started practicing stoicism a while back, and he has really tried to avoid having a ton of material things. So this is probably part of why he has such a spartan setup.
I don't know, his living room looks quite fancy for a minimalist. I guess, he doesn't really need more, but I think a rack with a barbell and pull up set up would be cool
I'd prefer not. The last time I watched Pewdiepie he spent a lot of time just screaming. I would like to see Dr. Mike put him through a proper workout though. Let's just hope Pewds doesn't yell the n-word again and get everyone demonetized.
He is starting work out like recently since he moved to Japan. Now he has squad rack in his latest gaming / trainning room. Dr Mike should react to his latest update of his final version of his room. He is now currently Surfing and Rock climbing as side activity hobby.
we do have a plural form of leg, it's just the same as the singular form (ett ben, flera ben). Ben in Swedish also means bone (similarly plurally challanged), so there's an alternate universe where day 5 instead became "bone day", which sounds a lot more fun than leg day!
I think this video is undeniable proof that the thing that matters by far and away the most with fitness is consistency. Like a third of the exercises Felix is doing is close to a waste of time to a lot of people, but because he's doing ot consistently, he looks better than half of us ever will. (Including me, I won't train consistently til the day I die)

You can still do full snatch and clean and jerk with dumbells or the less explosive versions (deadlift to overhead press.) There is no more compoundy movement than those.

Your swedish accent was hilarious! A bit of a mix between swedish and finnish. Love your chill outlook on things

This is honestly such an interesting case study on how language works. You can tell this guy and pewdiepie live in completely different social circles by how they use cringe and epic
It's important to note that Pewdiepie uses it sarcastically, if that wasn't clear. I'm not sure how obvious it is to outside observers who don't know his style.
@@irrelevantFJS when you say something sarcastically too often it becomes genuine. This has happened to me multiple times, I can't handle doing the same sarcastic phrases regularly
@@arsenalfanatic09 thats why you are not pewdiepie , i mean every human is different after all
@@AwaisKhan-mh6cd If two people use cringe/epic in the same scenarios all the time, but one is being sarcastic and one is being sincere, then they're functionally identical.
It's not really functioning as sarcasm when you just use it how sincere people use it. It'd be more sarcastic if he used it in inappropriate situations.
It becomes an in-joke for regular viewers, but not a real joke that stands on its own for people who don't follow PewDiePie, since it's not absurd for a gaming UA-camr who got famous in the 2010s to use cringe/epic.
Oh man, you're my hero. Just love that you acted out that glove scene instead of obnoxiously cutting in a random clip as all the other tubers.

Just discovered your channel and I gotta say your humor is so refreshing and made my day better. I agree that "cringe" is very overused and it's always better to own it.
And what he said is so true, few things make me cringe as hard as people pointing out how cringe something is. I've gotten so used to using "cringe, bro" as a joke, that I can't take it seriously

Mike. Truthfully.
Just one correction Mike, Mick Gordon is actually the definition of hardcore!
One thing Pewdiepie got right.
I like this guy! Also thank you for the knowledge!
16:50 Fun fact: in Swedish, “leg” *is* actually both singular and plural. One “ben”, two “ben”…
Fun fact, ben is also a cousin word of the English word bone.
fun fact my cousins name is Ben
While we're on the topic of the strangeness that is Swedish, the word for married and poison is the same in Swedish: gift, pronounced "yift"
Furthermore, Swedish grammar is an absolute pain in the ass since there are almost as many exceptions as examples for every grammatical rule, if there is even a rule at all, as is the case with our version of a/an. There is literally no rule for it, but you WILL be viewed as a weirdo if you get it wrong.
@3dprinting: Actually, Swedish is one of the easiest languages in the world to learn because the grammar is very easy compared to others. This is the present tense of „walk“ im Swedish for example:
Jag går / Du går / Han går / Vi går / Ni går / De går
Compared to German:
Ich gehe / Du gehst / Er geht / Wir gehen / Ihr geht / Sie gehen
Could go on and on 🤓
@@Pile_of_carbonIn old english the gift/gif used to exist, up until they decided to borrow "mariage" from french.
But the gift/gift actually has a reason, germans.
"Gift" in the sense of poison was originally an euphemism, basically in the sense of "something malicious was gifted"
"Gift" in the sense of marriage is "gifted at a bride".
Just that both forms has been around for a bit more than a millenia.
This was today's random knowledge.
That app ad transition was so smooth, I was pregnant before I realized my clothes were off.

6:05 - Hahaha, that’s pewdiepie’s own brand of gaming chairs by the way, he made that chair and the company, and one of the main selling points he would always meme was that it can basically recline to completely flat hahaha, and I love that he was right, people love that feature!
He didn't make the chair or company. The chair has his branding yes, but it is a brand deal with the company. he doesn't actually own the company.
You’re just completely wrong hahaha. All he has is his branding on the chair via a brand deal but he didn’t make it and he doesn’t own the company.

What’s good dr Mike you should review track and field athletes workouts next I love your channel though you helped me get in the best shape of my life
Yeah someone like Galen Rupp or Kippchoge would be great.
This is exactly what I needed! I only have a bench and dumbbells in my house and I wasn't sure if that was enough to build a sufficiently fit body. After watching this and taking in Dr. Mike's advice I'm more confident in it now. Thanks!!
I have the same setup, actually I bought it because I saw pewdiepies video a year ago. Can confirm you can absolutely build muscle with the setup
I just love how Dr. Mike just got in on the "but can you do this?" thing with Pewdiepie's epic gaming chair

Insane. Would completely break my mind 😂 😂 😂

Also.
I think there have been some studies of how caffeine can potentially help working out. Don't know how true it is though.
it boosts energy helping you work out more, that's basically it @@Tom-fl8eh

Hammer Curls legit made my biceps get a peak. They were just huge log shaped .. I'm 6'7 so I have long arms. When I started to do hammers, the peak in the middle came out of no where and made my arms look so much better.
Your biceps just grew. Nothing to do with hammer curla.
I think hammer curls get the brachialis a little extra. And a thicker brachialis might make that peak show up
I've always heard basic curls with a pinch of external rotation to it target the distal head of the bicep for more peak development.
I think he's gone too far
Should 100% use a basic squat rack set up
I don't know, his living room looks quite fancy for a minimalist.
I guess, he doesn't really need more, but I think a rack with a barbell and pull up set up would be cool
Stoicism? Doesn't fit that context mate.

we do have a plural form of leg, it's just the same as the singular form (ett ben, flera ben).
