    Another report made my day, as always. I have a question. Can you make a video about cavalier grooming, but not only puppies but also mature dog. You are very good breeder and you have a lot of knowlege. I have 3,5 years old Cavalier and he still hate when I comb his ears. Thank you and waiting for another report

    I'm surprised how much I have enjoyed your videosI I appreciate how much knowledge you have and how valuable these videos are when we can watch from the very beginning with this litter. Being able to experience their growth and understand these milestones has been invaluable! I'm going to be sad (for myself) when they go to their forever homes...Knowing you are keeping one is special and hopefully you will continue along with his sweet journey.

    Yes they get cuter day by day!!! Tag is so sweet. So beautiful much like my dearly missed Gentry Blenheim pup. And your baby Jamba always listening to your voice...so smart. Wonderful litter and the hard work shows. Glad they slept through the night. Isn't that a blessing.

    Your puppies are totally adorable! We had our first Cav 6 years ago. My husband found a newspaper ad and we went and bought the puppy on site. Worst idea ever. The breeder was very new, think it was her 2nd litter I later found out. We loved our Murphy so much, but he was not without issues. When we got him he was 16 weeks old and I really don’t think he was socialized. At age 2 1/2 he started having seizures. We did everything we thought that we could do to keep him safe. When he was 5 , even though he had been well controlled with medications for his seizures he went into a seizure that lasted too long. We lost him. We were heartbroken. Today we have a new Cavalier that is 10 months old. We thought we went through the right channels to get a reputable breeder. But, after watching you , I don’t think so. Thanks for all the great info!

    Hi, I have a question
    My dog Lady is 10 and all of a sudden after she poops, its starting to get a little stuck on her butt. I just had knee surgery so its hard for me to bathe her as much right now. We get her groomed regularly, but even with shorter fur, the poop gets stuck back there. Any suggestions? I have wiped her but I don't want to irritate her skin.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 роки тому +2

      This happens sometimes with older dogs. There are two things we do:
      1. To firm up the poops, making them less likely to stick, add some fiber to the diet. I like Weetabix cereal, soaked a few minutes in either water or goat's milk.
      2. Sometimes we have to shave the butt area right down to the skin. Just be careful not to shave too large an area.

    • @chickie8252
      @chickie8252 3 роки тому +1

      @@chaskat35 Do you shave your dogs yourself? If you do , what brand of razor did you buy to use? I'm having Lady groomed this Saturday, and I'm going to ask her to shave back there.
      Thank you so much for your advice 🙂

      Hi ,
      Just wanted to let you know the Weetabix is definately helping with firming up Lady's poops. I wanted to ask another question. I feed her twice a day, should I put the cereal in her food twice a day, or only once? I wasn't sure if it would bind her too much. Thank you for your help

    I noticed one of the puppies was scooting his butt along the ground, my puppy does this as well, is this normal

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 роки тому +3

      In a young puppy, this is not unusual. They often get some soft poop stuck to the hair around the butt, and wipe it this way. In an older dog, it could be a sign of anal glands that need to be expressed (important, but not a big problem if taken care of).

    When a pup has a just one parent being a carrier of something (say Degenerative Myolapathy) would you still use that parent to breed? Or best not to at all? Was looking at a pup and the parent is a carrier

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 роки тому +1

      If we ever have a verified non-affected carrier of an inherited disease, we make sure to breed to a mate that is a DNA cleared non-carrier.

    Hello, I recently got a cav he is 9weeks and I wanted to know more about the night pee and poo breaks, how often do I take him out? As of now he sleeps at 8:30 and wakes up at 11,2, and 4 he wakes up at 6:30 for breakfast I hope that you can help me out with it.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 роки тому +1

      At 9 weeks old, he should be able to get through most or all of the night. Here is the procedure I recommend:
      From about 3 hours before bedtime until an hour before, keep the puppy active. Remember that during this time, he should be on your lap, or under your direct supervision; don’t give him a chance to slip up on his housebreaking. An hour before bedtime, let him go to sleep.
      At bedtime, wake him up and carry him out to eliminate. Take the time to allow him to both urinate and defecate. Then bring him in to sleep in his crate, in a place where you can hear him from bed. If he cries, a sharp bang on the crate along with a loud “Quiet!” should settle him down. As soon as he wakes up in the morning, start the daytime procedure.
      For the first few days or weeks, your puppy may wake up very early, so be prepared to make a few sacrifices. In time, however, he will adjust to your schedule, and you both will enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep.

      I think you've got it right for right now. When my dog Lady was little, until she got used to us and learning to hold it, she was like having a newborn. She's great now, never has accidents unless she's sick. Lady was an older puppy when I got her at 5 months but I don't know if she was crate trained. I just kept taking her out until I knew by certain actions she would make that she had to go. Eventually she had a schedule. 11:00pm would be the last time out and she would go out around 7a.m. I'm saying was because now that we're in quarantine and my husband is furloughed, Lady likes to sleep in and we have to wake her up to get her to go

      @@chaskat35 thank you will try that out, one question I give him his breakfast at 8, lunch at 3 and dinner at 8, I try and tier him out between 7-8 so that he can fall asleep by 8:30 anything you think I should change? since he gets quite active after meals, he is a very exited eater and there is no exaggeration he is VERY exited for his meal times.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 роки тому +1

      At about 9 1/2 weeks, I transition mine to just two meals per day. If he's excited at lunchtime, you can give him a small treat. If you give him dinner at 8:00 and let him fall asleep at 8:30, he will most likely have to poop before bedtime. I feed my puppies breakfast at 6-7 AM, and dinner at 6 PM. By around 9-10 PM, they will have to poop, and then they rest nicely through the night.
