Not sure why, but the sensor is important beyond just the tach reading...I tried to swap a 24v balancer on my 12v and due to the fact that it didnt have the notches for the sensor to read the PCM maybe didn't know that it could demand voltage? So my truck was stuck at 12 volts and wasn't charging the battery, so it is important apparently to get the sensor right on this application...just a thought.
I recently lost tach, speedometer, overdrive on my 95 Cummins and your video is a great help. I’ll try and change that sensor. It’s in a pretty tight spot, though!
Thanks for sharing this Now I want 1! Lots of guys use those on race cars & boats to. I just ordered a Beans Diesel fuel sump for my Dodge sick of fuel pick up issues I will do a video of install when ever they get them back in stock maybe next week or so. Thanks again .
+TheKilog69 I have to sump my tank as well... seems I run out of fuel just as low fuel light comes on, or before which is a pain. I am planning to use a FASS sump to go with my pump, and as soon as this tank is low it's going to happen. Thanks for watching let me know when your vid is up.
I put a Sump kit from Beans diesel on my 4bt swap, before I had a draw tube and could never get it to pull to engine, I installed the sump kit, and then I had fuel to the engine from a empty fuel system in less then a minute! I made my own fuel system, FASS was just way to pricey.
Great video and review Carl, If a product impresses you AND you give it a thumbs up, it MUST be good ! See you have plenty of snow at home, we're at under a foot for the year.... Great to see ya... Stay warm brother !!
+lakesideranch Thanks Doug... what you see is what is left from our 25 inch blizzard a few weeks ago. Only a few flurries here and there after that. Take care brother and stay warm as well.
Carl, Thanks for taking the time to make the video, I understand how much work that is. Can you show us your old dampener? Was their damage? Was the rubber grommet seal coming out? Or was it normal vibration made less by larger dampener? Also to all watching take the fan guard out! Much easier.
+Harry Mingo The old damper is shown in the video, the rubber still OK. The addition of the low stall converter last spring seemed to cause increased vibration due to the extra loading on the engine at idle and low speeds. The low stall brings in gear idle speed down to about 550, and it will shake you to pieces in traffic. Big improvement. I left the shroud in place because I did not want to deal with removing the full washer tank and almost full coolant reserve to get to the attaching bolts. Worked for me just fine that way. Thanks for watching and the comments!
Another great video Carl. The series on your dodge is especially good. I have a rotted out 24 valve. You made converting your truck to diesel look like it was no big deal. You are a really fine mechanic. How do you keep your truck so nice, don't you live in the rust belt?
+Jeff L Hi Jeff! Wow thanks for the compliments.. much appreciated! Yes the conversion did go very smooth, but that would not have happened if I didn't prepare as much as I did. If you look back I got the motor in April and finally dropped it in at the end of July. There was lots of time spent getting parts collected, reading, looking at other trucks, comparing wiring diagrams etc. I must admit that I even impressed myself with how "easy" that job was, I was expecting a lot more hassle out of that. I doubt one will ever go that smooth again for me lol. Of course looking back there are some things that I would do different next time (the freeze plug is on of them!). As far as the condition of my truck, yes northern NJ is loaded with salt and some things are starting to happen now.. The rockers are shot on both sides as well as the door bottoms are starting to bubble. I am going to cover some of this once the weather gets better. The only reason it lasted this long (she's 21 years old now) is that this is a southern truck, sold in Oklahoma and has only been up here since winter 2005. My neighbor bought a used 2001 Ram 1500 a year before I got mine and it rotted to pieces by 2011. Thanks for watching!
+Broncocarl92 thanks for responding carl.yea that freeze plug was no bargain. I'm looking forward to the body work videos.is there anything you can't do?
+Broncocarl92 just one more and ill quit for the night. found it interesting the engine spins up faster with a balancer thats twice as heavy. must have something to do with the higher compression of a diesel as compared to a gas engine.
+Jeff L That I don't have an answer for, I was surprised about that as well. Possibly has something to do with the smoother running allows a better fuel burn?
+ItsAlwaysRusty I agree on that. If I didn't find this discounted one this video wouldn't have happened. I can say the results are worth full price though. Thanks for watching!
Is it worth getting the 400$ dampener or is a Oem replacement for 140$ ok its just a Daily driver/work truck. I have a 07 5.9 and I can see some wobble when i was changing the water pump!
I appreciate all your videos very nicely done and informative. It just seems that this upgrade is not worth the time money and effort for the minimal results you achieve. It's going to shake it's a diesel. Just my opinion but thanks for the information.
+Richard Martinez The difference before and after driving is very noticeable IMO.. When the truck is coasting now I find myself looking to see if the engine is still running.. this is no exaggeration. Did you have a different experience? Yes it is a pricey upgrade but if your damper is falling apart it's worth spending the extra for this over a stock piece. Thanks for the comment.
On my 96 ram 3500 have never noticed any vibration but then again I don't think I've ever pushed it over 2,100 rpm since I bought it out of the dealership new in 96 and it only has 143k on the dial. Thanks for the reply and keep up the good work with the videos.
Is the 135ft lb for stock fasteners? I read it was like 92ft lbs for those bolts. I ordered ARP crank bolts so I assume those specs would be different. Great video BTW.
So that is an interesting question. This video is three years old now and if I still have the original instruction sheet somewhere is a mystery to me. If I find it I will let you know, but that is where I got the spec from (and also the information on how to install the sensor). I just looked up the instructions on the Fluidampr website and indeed the spec listed is 92 ft/lbs. I also see that the revision date on lower corner is 5/2018 so maybe it was corrected? None of the specs listed on the chart is 135 so I doubt I read the spec for a different vehicle. Thanks for bringing this to my attention now I have to see how I can fix video (may have to pull, edit and repost).
No problem, Carl. Your video on replacing the rear pinion seal on a Dana 70 was of tremendous help to me a few years back and one of the first procedures I did on my 12 Valve to get me into diesel mechanics. Glad I could be of help.
unless you have a lot of modifications I would say no. I probably don't even need it. I just get scared of the mechanical lift pump failing and filling the engine up with diesel
This is the video that helped me install the Fluidampr on a 12 Valve.
Finally someone making a video of a before and after with some proof ... thank you for posting I'm going to get one now

that's a nice harmonic balancer.

hey karl, thumbs up from brazil, i drive one of the few 12 valves around here in my country, always watch your videos, thanks for sharing knowledge
+Joao Petter Thanks for watching!
Its amazing when its smooth.
+scottsinfl Smooth is good.

Great Video. The damper though is expensive.. for my 04 almost $500.00
+ItsAlwaysRusty I agree on that. If I didn't find this discounted one this video wouldn't have happened. I can say the results are worth full price though.

I thought the damper part number for the second genners was 960341
OK thanks for the help
Great videos where have you been for a few weeks?
+Dylan Apthorp Thanks... don't have much time to make videos every week so I do them when I can.
Is the 135ft lb for stock fasteners? I read it was like 92ft lbs for those bolts. I ordered ARP crank bolts so I assume those specs would be different. Great video BTW.
Yep 92
Who else sh!t their pants at 3:34?
Hey bud, nice video! Do you remember how much you paid for the 'scratch & dent' damper?
sorry I don't.
@@Broncocarl92 do you have a ballpark idea? I know they are expensive so just wondering how much you saved on it?
if you can do a video that'll be awsome
how about that fass
a local shop I do business with
Everyone who watched this entire video immediately went to ebay and searched for a scratch and dent fluid dampr. I know I did.
where did you get those gauges
Summit Racing.
Damper bolt torque spec on 2nd gens is 92 ft-lbs. Yours handled 135 ok?
So that is an interesting question. This video is three years old now and if I still have the original instruction sheet somewhere is a mystery to me. They sent you a hat? Well I guess their standards have decreased significantly because they only sent me a window sticker
Is that a military issue Cummins engine?
The Mechanic no it isn't
Broncocarl92 just was wondering about the color of it
do you have an install video of it
no I don't
