    Installing a hood in my food truck, my only concern is drilling a 1/2" hole into a tiny stud that is already under engineered to hold that kind of weight. Instead, I'm using flat stock steel and drilled 2 holes on either side of the stud (dont drill into the stud!) bridge over the stud with the plate on the roof.
    Place 1 bolt on either side of the stud, that way all the structural intererty, 100 percent is maintaned. Snow adds to the load too, Im sure its fine either way, but ....

    Hey Frank, question about wall blocking and support for the hood. You'd said you only added 2x4 at the big serving window, you didn't have to add additional support or wall blocking for the hood and fan? This is my 1st food truck build and I'm trying to find all the info I can get. So far you have the best by far helpful video's, even a spreadsheet I was able to print and compare pricing here in GA compared to yours. I'm concerned about the 3/4" tube steel this is framed with on 2-3' centers, not consistent spacing at all. You just use the trailer as built with no additional blocking or support? Thanks for your help and video's

    • @fbaltierrez
      @fbaltierrez  2 роки тому +1

      Correct for the hood no additional support was used. The only thing I use was a 2x4 on the wall to the flat side to space it 1.5 inches to give me extra room for the fan up top.

      You're less likely to get hassled if you use a red-colored high-heat sealant as a gasket on the flange of the duct against the hood. The reason I say red in color is that inspectors will look for the color of joining cements, thread tapes, and temperature-sensitive sealants as a quick indicator of the use of the proper materials. That usually keeps them from digging any deeper. Use at least three screws on each side, one close to each corner and one or more in the center(preferably more). Then another weld-like bead of red sealant around the seam. Make it look as clean and professional as possible. They will be more likely to overlook a weld if they see you took the extra steps to make up for the lack of a weld. I've been dealing with fire marshals and inspectors for thirty years in commercial and residential construction.
