Installing a hood in my food truck, my only concern is drilling a 1/2" hole into a tiny stud that is already under engineered to hold that kind of weight. Instead, I'm using flat stock steel and drilled 2 holes on either side of the stud (dont drill into the stud!) bridge over the stud with the plate on the roof. Place 1 bolt on either side of the stud, that way all the structural intererty, 100 percent is maintaned. Snow adds to the load too, Im sure its fine either way, but ....
Hey Frank, question about wall blocking and support for the hood. You'd said you only added 2x4 at the big serving window, you didn't have to add additional support or wall blocking for the hood and fan? This is my 1st food truck build and I'm trying to find all the info I can get. So far you have the best by far helpful video's, even a spreadsheet I was able to print and compare pricing here in GA compared to yours. I'm concerned about the 3/4" tube steel this is framed with on 2-3' centers, not consistent spacing at all. You just use the trailer as built with no additional blocking or support? Thanks for your help and video's
Correct for the hood no additional support was used. The only thing I use was a 2x4 on the wall to the flat side to space it 1.5 inches to give me extra room for the fan up top.

Shipping yes they charge. The 2nd part no idea. That was never something they did before. If its the little triangle pieces at the bottom. Those are not needed, ask them which those are

We have installed the hood and fan. When its on and the door and widows are close , it squeals thru the window crack and literally sucks the walls in a bit. If i crack the door or open the windows a bit it stops. Do i need to put some kind of intake vent somewhere? Would a dummer type switch work?
Have you had any experience with the low profile hoods? They are designed for low ceiling areas. Any opinions about those? Seems like they give you more head room while cooking

The space in the back of the hood is how the hood ends up fitting like to get it flush to the ceiling. Not much that can be done about that in the trailer and in mine which is same brand.
on the hood 10x12 duck as you called it, actually called hood Roof Curb, does the roof curb touches the wood inside the roof of the trailer? are the curd suppose to go straight thru the roof without touching any flammable material ???
Excellent question. Would be no different than a Exhaust fan on top of a restaurant, the biggest thing would be to weather proof around the metal curb plate 100%
I purchase an 8 foot hood with a chamfered corner and the ductwork that they sent me measures 12 x 12 square but when I measure the spot that I’m supposed to cut I only have 11 3/4 and I noticed that your duct was 10 x 12 a correct assume that since I have a chamfered edge that I’m supposed to have a rectangle duck in comparison to a square duct
Interesting. Yes I have never received a 12x12 square. If it has the same back as mine give them a ring and they will send you a new one if they packaged it incorrectly

I am not getting my stainless steel panels for about 3 weeks but I'm getting my hood this week - can I install the hood and then panel it later? I am building out an mt45 step van (old fedex truck) not a trailer - please help :)
You can. What I would do is install the hood but don't bolt it 100% tight yet is one option but then if it rains could be a small problem. Or option 2 just butt the SS after and seal it all up. But yes install the hood
@@fbaltierrez We also have exhaust hood as well as an air outlet in the wall of food truck. Would you have any solutions suitable for working in the winter, as ventilation system grabs air from outside and it’s cold inside.
@@hungrypapa3835 that is a question that I would not have the answer to, we have installed Make up air and Exhaust systems in restaurants through my other business they haven't had any issues with cold but they are brick and mortar. Let me see if I can help you find a solution

I assume that’s frp panels on the walls and ceiling. Would there be a problem mounting the hood flush over top of the frp above on the ceiling and the back wall?
@@fbaltierrez From what I see in your video there was a big empty spot in the ceiling area directly above where the hood was to be installed (5:15). My plan was to frp the walls and ceilings and then set the range hood OVER the frp. I was wondering if there was a reason for that big uncovered spot(fire/heat) ?
@@zennseven the hood install covers that right up when you install the hood. I made the measurements bigger that way the FRP was nicely tucked inside. The back part just finished that yesterday where there was a gap.

It's in her somewhere. But the run down Is pretty easy. The power from the panel goes to one wire of switch the wire that comes from the fan goes to the other wire and the the 2 whites get wire nut together and stuffed in the box by themselves
You're less likely to get hassled if you use a red-colored high-heat sealant as a gasket on the flange of the duct against the hood. The reason I say red in color is that inspectors will look for the color of joining cements, thread tapes, and temperature-sensitive sealants as a quick indicator of the use of the proper materials. That usually keeps them from digging any deeper. Use at least three screws on each side, one close to each corner and one or more in the center(preferably more). Then another weld-like bead of red sealant around the seam. Make it look as clean and professional as possible. They will be more likely to overlook a weld if they see you took the extra steps to make up for the lack of a weld. I've been dealing with fire marshals and inspectors for thirty years in commercial and residential construction.
How’s it going love your videos actually helping a friend of mine do there food truck I was actually looking into getting the same hood as youres if possible with the angled back to kick it off the side a little bit inside the food truck. But I have no luck finding it on there website if you have any luck or links or something like that it would be much appreciated.

Yes there are some videos almost at the beginning of the playlist that walked it step by step. But the walls on trailer the plywood was already there from factory I just added the stainless

I would not be sure. I have only installed one way only have never switched it or used another method unfortunately

Hood is pretty straightforward. One day you can do it , maybe 2 to weatherproof it

They don't require that for us here with the fire department

No, these are all inside the trailer. How the factory built it is how it stays

Goes straight through to outside I think it does touch a small part of wood but the hood duct is about 1/4 thick.

I wish it would go flush to wall but can't. On these trailers they don't have a flat roof. So it's either I flush to ceiling or flush to the wall.

For use in our county they do not require that for approval, can it be done yes but I just use SS Screws

Where did u source the inlet piece of duct? Hoodmart didnt cut a hole in mine or supply the start collar or whatever its called..
Yes they won't cut a hole. You have to do that yourself in the field with the flat sheet of metal they provide

How many inches does the hood have to hang over the cooking area below? We are stuck at this step because we don’t know what size hood to buy..

Yes through the roof. They are about 5 inches but you can buy longer or shorter if needed from HD. And suppression system installed separately

So ive seen round exhaust fans on top, do you need both?
Haven't seen those. I just have the fan that comes with the hood, it looks like a top hat
What is the height that should be between the floor and the top of the hood?
That all depends on your trailer height. Mine was 6' 5"

The ansul needs to know how many btu's your equipment is using, so it could be after but you'll need to let them know your equipment specs.

Stainless Steel Self Drilling Screws wrapped with High Temperature Flue Tape. Works wonderful

Terrible install, duct doesn’t meet NFPA 96 standards and the fire system is poorly installed, and installed OUTSIDE of the hood…
That was professionally installed by a licensed company, not sure where you are coming from but thanks for your feedback
