You guys know, the drummer Cassidy is the band founders Step Dad, he was born in 23, he was the world's oldest rock drummer
probably the only WWII vet rock drummer as well and a brilliant drummer

Just listened to the 72 LA radio live Kapt Kopter album again , and Randy was probably the most hendrix like player , way more than folks like SRV, etc. Randy plays the jimi parts SRV cant, and his soul/ funk chops help alot. SRV does the texas shuffle. I saw sprit in concert when 12 dreams just released , and again in 81 , in prime form both times. 12 dreams lineup could really sing., with Jay.
Randy played in a band with Jimi Hendrix before the Experience. Jimi called him Randy California and the name stuck. In 1970, I found myself on a plane with the band, going from Sacramento to L.A. Then I saw them in a reunion concert a few months before Randy died. A great band!
Mike I loved this one.. does not get any better!

Randy California was always my favorite, and Spirits first album is my favorite record 👍
you can hear hendrix in california. but you can also hear california in hendrix. they were close friends. they played together in the band "jimmy james and the blue flames".
And Randy was only 15 at the time, yet Jimi was so impressed with him that he invited Randy to go to England with him, but Randy's parents wouldn't let him, because he was only 15, and they wanted him to finish high school.
Stop tripping so hard Jimi was not directly influenced by Randy he had already established his skills before he met Randy.

What great vocal tone and Randy has a perfect harmony! Video a bit out of synch, but if I take my glasses off it puts me in front of the stage for this groove.
Out of sync? this is a studio track on a live video shot not even close to real…

I saw Spirit in 1982. They were a trio, Randy, Ed, & a bass player, not sure who he was.
It may have been Steve Loria aka "Liberty". I saw Randy in a trio with Ed around that time, and the bass player was Liberty. Randy played three part harmonies in his solos using an Echoplex set for a long delay. The only other person I saw do that was Jeff Beck on the first tour from the second Jeff Beck group, touring to promote their first album Rough and Ready
