nice to hear confirmation of what I already suspected from someone who actually met him . i think his music is an honest reflection of that personality .
Sardonicus is a killer album. we played the living shit out of it in high school. I know every lyric by heart. one of my 3 desert island albums. Long live the 12 Dreams !
@@robertbihn3005 Not sure if you were around back then, but Randy officially (lol) got his (stage) "name" from "bandmate" Jimi Hendrix a few years before this. And then there's the "history" 😮with Led Zep...long story...😉 Cheers!
I remeber their first album "Fresh Garbage" and saw them live several times. One of the very greatest rock bands of the 60s and early 70s. I miss Randy too. RIP.
Hearing Randy sing it like this live and comparing it to the memory that I have from Dr Sardonicus, this was his own song. Something he could play with a guitar by himself. What an incredible talent.
I was born after my time. I discovered Spirit in College when I worked at a used record store back in the late 80's. I could pull out any record I wanted to and play it. I discovered a lot of music that way. Ended up buying their first 4 albums. I have the Box CD set now. I've been listening to it the last few mornings on my morning run. Neat to see them playing this. Always one of my favorites of theirs.
One of the greatest flat top jams ever! The composition is unparalleled with regards to any perceived similarities anywhere in history. Note Ed is keeping time with his head & right thumb. RIP RC! Edit: spelling ------------ Scotty...you REALLY, REALLY nailed this...Jay & Mark's parts are right there (in your HANDS)....and it's unplugged...no dub.... I'd never heard this until just now! ------------ And I'm guessing the Sapele (or Koa) top? Mahalo 'bruddah....
Remember my first high school love telling me we had to break up and this song came up a few seconds later while we were dancing. We were 15 years old. Her father didn’t approve of me because I wasn’t the same pedigree. She was crying very badly and we were heartbroken. We still ended up seeing each other, sneaking around in spite of his disapproval and as they say: the rest was history.
Esta es una interpretación tan cruda y poderosa... incluso con las guitarras desafinadas y el estudio improvisado, realmente te hace sentir cómo era el rock & roll a finales de los años 1960. (fodel)
Thanks for this version of a classic! Two questions (of Dr. Sardonicus): Who is the other guitarist? Definitely deserves a shoutout! Does anyone else think Randy looks like Jesse Eisenberg did in The Social Network?
Wonderful song for a very special one. Miss you Randy.
My two oldest children grew up listening to Spirit. They loved the music. RIP Randy.
❤😢Miss you Randy! You provided the soundtrack to my life!❤🎉
When 12 dreams came out,it was life altering to a young teen. Those days are gone, the music lives on,living in my heart forever.
I was 12. I was right there with you bro. WHTTS? (what happened to Thai sticks)
We must be about the same age. My thoughts exactly...
Spirit was way ahead of the game..Randy died a hero RIP
rip....tide.
There's always been something about this song, enchanting...
It's as if an immediate deep connection to Earth.
Like a theif in the pantry: eats the apple pie , put a cherry inhis armpit and olives in his pockets leafs a receipts and bolters out the window
A fabulous song !
I did sound for Spirit in the late 80's. Randy was just a super nice guy.
nice to hear confirmation of what I already suspected from someone who actually met him .

Thx for that, man. Always glad to hear from people who were there.
@jonathanbirch2022 About what?
Damn, this is so good. A standout from the golden era of rock.
So bearutiful to see him and hear him like this, could almost cry. Thank you .....
Randy was Will Ferrell before Will Ferrell was Will Ferrell….Randy and Spirit were great…I was a lucky dude to be born at the right time..
Image of Will isn't he?
I can see the Chazz Michael Michaels resemblance
Randy was magical ! He died saving his son in the ocean
Oh my God, how tragic! 😢 Did his son survive?
???????????????????????????? Waaaaah? Say more or stfu!
Yes , he saved his son from drowning in Hawaii but lost his life in the process
OK. There are a lot of great clips from the Poker Party shows... but THIS is something special!
Top five best ever albums, 12 Dreams
Thanx, can never get enough Randy & Spirit!
rip RC....Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus:Natures Way

Too bad Randy's dream was not more widely shared. People could benefit from hearing it, but most have not. Too bad for them.
One of my fave bands from "back in the day." My generation had the greatest music ever.
1993 ?
@@robertbihn3005 Hello? Vinyl was recorded in '70........RC had that in his head long before that. Get real...

My favorite song all time
He is committed to that eye contact! I looove this song. You gotta smile and sing along! At least I do.
Sardonicus right up there with the best rock albums of all time..4th Spirit album and Randy barely 20, 21
Saw tgem in Fort Worth around 1977-78. Awesomeness.
now I know why I cannot listen to that without shedding a couple tears. in tabr they would be amazed at my dedication to the one passed on.
Tell us why, my friend. You need to tell us, and we need to listen.
Spirit have always been special for me and Randy California among my favorite guitarists. I'd love to see more examples if he / their playing. Thanks!

Randy is a guardian angel
Wow, thanks all, still great, really great, so many decades later. Impressive. Best to the surviving family, respect to your artist forebears.
That Dean Markley soundhole pickup is taking me back 🔙😮
Beautiful. Thanks Art!
Jimi Hendrix gave him the name, "California"
Correct, you are.
Outstanding!!
Wow, what a find!
I saw Spirit at a sma bar in Imperial Beach, they were great, and signed one of their albums for me.
Love this song, RIP Randy

I'll bet this song could go viral, given global awareness on climate change, etc.
RIP
Randy..

I don't care who is better or best...Randy California has always been my favorite. I like his playing better than Hendrix.
❤️
Much missed Randy
You HAVE to do 'I Put A Spell On You'. The live Woodstock version is a great one.
I LOVE SPRIT
Still got it, ( prelude, nothing to hide)
12 dreams
Heard it 1st on Alison Steele the night bird 102.7 fm. Nyc
Thanks UA-cam
Oh my ….
great version. love the acoustic.
Looks like Ed Cassidy sitting with Art on the sofa...
Who is the 2nd guitarist?
Another one gone to soon.
At first I thought this was a SNL skit with Will Ferrell.
imagine the Jimi Hendrix Experience with Randy California? could have happened but he declined the offer.
His parents insisted he finish school. I think he was only 15 or 16 when he met Hendrix.
@@artredoubt3629 ?????????????????????????? Waaaaaahhh?
Surprised it's not the Greenies Theme song! Not that is a good thing.
