Have just test driven Pajero Sport, Rexton and Mu-x, wanting a vehicle for general use plus towing a 2400kg van. Thought my choice would be the Pajero but found it a bit light and skittish in the rear end on uneven surfaces and a little coarse on acceleration. Rexton was surprisingly impressive, competitively priced, huge number of features, lot of power from just 2.2litres. Discounted it because Ssang Yong have a bit of a chequered history with some financial instability; thought resale values could be in jeopardy. Decided on the Mu-x. It ticked all the boxes, very stable, plenty of power, nicely appointed, especially in the more popular up spec LS-T model. Great video, thanks.
Had my mu-X for nearly 3 months now and overall am very pleased. 4000 kms in a combination of around town, towing the van and highway trips. Great to drive, excellent fuel economy, especially comfortable plus handles rougher roads with minimum fuss. Downsides? A few of the electronic assists take some getting used to. I have disabled the autonomous braking function as it gets me into more trouble than it’s worth. Rear suspension is great under normal use but found when towing a van with 200 kg towball download that I’ve had to fit airbags to level the car and van up.
Mines due to arrive next April. We had our 4 kids including car seats in for a test drive without an issue. I’m 146cm, who ever is behind me has plenty of room
Yeah been to and from about replacing my jeep with another Isuzu we loved the first generation and I will be putting an order in this week, it is just the vehicle that does enough of everything right without to many compromises, great review 👍🏻
Are they rugged? My 2019 MUX blew a turbo two years in and at 5 years old and just out of warranty has developed cracks in the engine bay inner guards. Been waiting 5 weeks now to find out if they will fix it. Be aware that if you add a steel bullbar/winch they will try to blame that for any cracking even though it bolts to the frame, not the body.
Great Video. I'm in South Africa, and want to buy one of these and do Africa south of the equator in one of these, maybe even a Cape to Cairo overland.
Really thinking about ordering a ls-m 4x4 shortly. Just under $61k on road with a tow kit. Then ill have to add the roof racks and platform. Drawer and duel battery system. Seat covers and floor matts. So will probably set me back $68k. Is a lot of money but its a lot of car as well. 3.0l engine is probably the best in its class.
I can clearly picture me going overlanding in one of these. Wider all terrain tyres, and a rooftop tent and maybe towing an off-road trailer. I'm lucky enough to do Botswana and Namibia, et al. I want to sleep on an M-UX rooftop while lions walk around my campsite
Fortuner has an incredibly harsh on-road ride "feel" - but offroad this is confidence inspiring (still bloody harsh though). Mux is far more pleasent to drive both on & off road.
To be honest there is no wrong choice between these two I have 2015 Mux with 225k km and I had almost no issues at all And I know alot of people with the fortuner and it's great So the real questions are : Do you want diesel engine or not ? Which one is cheaper Which one is probably all of the engineers could work on (depends on your country and how popular the car is) And the price of diesel And which have better warranty Other than that I think both are wonderful choices
There is something about car designers. Once they reach the pinnacle of their creation they come up with something bud ugly so they can improve them over the next couple of decades. This MUX is one of them. The same applies for Mitsubishi, Mercedes, BMW and Suzuki.
Haha - I happen to think the last MU-X was a better looking thing than this. But there’s an updated MU-X due later this year with a whole new look. Have you seen it?
Haa to be the poorest tech of any recent vehicles I drive for work, but recently had the 4x2 Mux and my God, so economical on fuel. It's still extremely basic compared to the equivalent Ford.
The ISUZU MU-X hire car I got had the passenger air bag indicator. Its a yellow light that looks like a no smoking sign down by the USB and CIG lighter on the right of them.
Has to be the poorest tech of any of the recent vehicles I drive for work, but this week i handed back a hire i had which was the 4x2 Mux and my God, so economical on fuel. You can’t base your decision merely on price alone Each one of these vehicles offer something that Brand loyalist would want . Time is the key here Ford products are still suffering the same issues As they had sice the days of mini vans and mid sized trucks . Fires and faulty transmissions Toyota builds great vehicles, however it’s Not for everyone. Geared more for boony Bashing . MU-X can do it all . Three rows Covers the needs of the family . Fold flat Great for weekend projects, comfortable Families have gone camping - hundreds I’m km . When you’ve had the same UTE. For 15 years or more . You know then You’ve made a wise informed. It’s conservative but that’s appealing to a lot of people - they might advertise this thing appealing to young couples, but it’s often empty-nesters with a caravan that buy them, and conservative design is what that demographic is drawn to.
pass, there are better in this class segment for less $$$, namely Pajero Sport and Rexton or if you want to spend more and getter off road the Fortuner and then there is the best the Everest but be prepared to pay but once you are at that price range the Landcruiser Prado is better then the Nissan Patrol or Landcruiser 3000 series.

Great review Matt, no recharging and a spare wheel. Now thats a decent vehicle for Australian conditions.
Thanks mate!

Thanks mate! Good luck and hope you get the car you want
No Wrangler death wobble with this ISUZU. Word.
Hi thank you for your video please there is any change 2023 and 2024
There may be an update late in 2024 for Australia.
ive heard izuzu can be pricks with warranty claims.anyone got any more info.
Especially if you call them izuzu.😮
Seems to be true from what I’ve read in Isuzu groups
Does 2023 mux LST have automatic fold in side mirrors when lock the car with remote ?
No

Thanks! Sounds like an epic adventure!
7 year capped price servicing don't include a " major " service "in the 7 years?
What if any DPF issues are kown?

I have dought between fortuner and mux. Until now iam not decided. Also some time i think about Dmax
The Fortuner will be a weapon if you plan to spend more time off-road, than on-road. But the MU-X is a far more liveable vehicle for daily duties.
Fortuner has an incredibly harsh on-road ride "feel" - but offroad this is confidence inspiring (still bloody harsh though). Mux is far more pleasent to drive both on & off road.
does mux 2024 have power adjusted side view mirrors , i know they can close open with button , but can we adjust thme as well
Does it have uneven tyre wear like the dmax?
There is a big difference between the D-MAX and the MU-X. The D-MAX is leaf-sprung in the back, whereas the MU-X is coil-sprung in the back.
2nd row seat can be slide to behind?
I’m not sure what you’re asking.
This or the fortuner? I would really appreciate your answer mate.

As they say, you get what you pay for, it is cheaper than some SUV’s for a reason.
Doesn’t look like a 2024 model just the 2023 model
So this looks like the 2023 model? But the title included 2024??
Yep, it’ll be selling as is in 2024, so it’s the 2024 model.

compare to some chinese suvs, feel like this one is already 10 years old. the design of this isuzu is so out dated

Nice review though.
That’s how aussies pronounce it :)
How do they pronounce estate then?
Aistate
We Aussies pronounce it the way I said it. Even the brand calls itself eye-suzu.
Estate is pronounced ESS-ta-tae 🤣
We most certainly don't pronounce it ess-ta-tae. That sounds like a sauce for fish.
Reviewers and viewers are too forgiving for crampy 3rd row. I feel it disgusting, especially with big cars with length over 4.5 meter.
Maybe its better if they will make the length to 5 meters
