To be honest this car is engineered by the same company that builds the G Wagon, arguably one of the best SUVs ever made. Everything else has compromises, either luxury/comfort or lack of budget.

As a UK owner of a 2 seat IG van for 17 months, think your about right. Software switches you need to reset and learn. But it's the most capable standard truck you can probably buy. I use mine for work as a fencing and forestry contractor. It's better than my old defender 130. Apparently they are thinking of producing the Quartermaster on factory portals and there would be room for an under slung tank. It's good to see you looking at different vehicles, keeps the channel fresh.
@stevegreen101 but if produced by Ineos then you hope you would be covered by some warranty. Surely they would not warrant a modified vehicle unless it was an approved conversion, like say for example Pedders are for Isuzu, or Artic Trucks? Sorry I am not familiar with LeTech.
This is pretty spot on and a good honest review based on actual experience, in quite a few different environments. We should do one at some point! We’re currently on a 5-year trip in a Grenadier across the world towing a Patriot X3, which we live in. We set off from London in mid-July 2023 with our two young kids and we’re approaching 50000km. At least 70% of our journey has been off-road... top job Ronny! 👍

I love mine and wouldn’t swap it for anything, except maybe the Quartermaster although I think the rear legroom in the QM is not quite as good as the waggon, and I have almost 3 teenagers. The lack of a fault code reader that can clear codes and reset service intervals is also a gripe. I guess this will come, the demand is there! I recently serviced mine myself and had to go back to the dealer anyway to get the service interval reset.. not good. Overall I’m delighted with is though.

Mr. Dahl I can’t tell you how overjoyed and maybe even a little relieved by this final assessment because your opinion on these matters is one that can’t be ignored, unlike some who borrowed a Grenadier for a weekend, mainly because I have two in the Garage and a quartermaster on order. Great objective review Ronny - I’m quite sure without prompting from Ineos…Great vehicle! Dont like 1. ADAS nonsense 2. Software glitches such as fuel gauge and check engine lights ( need to get it in for software updates) 3. Buttons resetting off road, same as you. 4. Poorly thought out stock rock slider and access with no grab handle for driver 5. Honestly, this list is hard. Maybe steering on road? Not hard, just more tiring on long pavement trips. The reality is the Grenadier is not for a lot of people, as it is so specific case use. But for our family, its perfect.
Ronny I cannot believe nobody has mentioned this before but I have test driven the Grenadier and removed the vinyl floor mat on the drivers side .That left foot rest is just a big chuck of foam and once removed it gave me a lot more lenght to stretch out my left leg. Just remove the matt and cut the foot rest off and refit- it will feel totally more comfortable whilst driving.

I’m 30000 in and just got the LR fuel tank through brown Davis. It’s not perfect and needs some R+D and my mechanic whinged a bit, but it’s completely changed the game. Over 1000 to a tank now and I’m pretty heavy on the gas (about 16-17L/100km).
Ronny! Thanks for another great vid. I know you can’t help me here but I’m sure others may offer opinions haha. Ideally holding on to it for some time. Help! 😂
9:40 Ronny, the wipers are RHD. The issue is identical for LHD, it's cause by the geometry. The pivot points need to be closer to the drivers position. A really annoying design flaw.
Its been a great series on the Grenadier, loved it. But I thought there was one thing missing and for me, and many others, it would have been towing capabilities. Would loved to have seen a review on that aspect. Cheers
I am bit suprised that he didnt adress the terrible turning ratio and the wiggly steering on normal road!. Whit that ssid though, super impressive first car build, almost unheard off to get so little problems with a first model build.
Hey Ronny! Did you have any issues with the software? Many other customers have issues with software. And how was it with the front big radiator? Many drivers get it crushed on the bottom. How was is it for you?
Impressive and informative videos. Appreciate it. Thanks. Wondered about the after sales service though eg parts and aftermarket since it is unique production vehicle, unlike Toyota that have parts and aftermarket everywhere
And don't forget to mention that the weight of the vehicle gives you the improved pay load when compared to others. It's a tough 4x4 by all measures from what I've seen.
Many thanks for this, I have been eagerly awaiting this review and now the question remains… should I upgrade to the ineos grenadier from my 2014 LR defender 110 2.2 ??
I test drove one in London today. It was beautiful, I sat very high up, it was very comfortable and it felt like I imagine what driving a tank would feel. Two insurmountable obstacles for my were 1. The awful turning circle - surely this could be made tighter. 2. No satnav - what? With constantly changing road conditions all over the uk we need information on alternative routes all the time. And finally, there are some changes to the taxation of Chelsea tractors which are going to add many thousands of pounds to the cost of these beautiful vehicles. I loved the look, I loved the drive but those two problems made purchase impossible.
Apple car play is better than any satnav I have used. It’s always up to date and traffic data is live. Plus you can use any phone mapping app like Gaia gps. It works well.
you don't want sat nav built into your vehicle by the manufacturer. they rarely get updates and are obsolete quickly. far better off having an aftermarket stand alone one that's better from the start.
Offroad vehicles don’t generally have tight turning circles and London is hardly the intended domain of this vehicle - LR Defender is what you’re after.
Sat Nav you can get when your phone is paired with the head unit. Steering can be adjusted, some owners have wound the limiting bolt on the diff to make it turn tighter.
@@pantoqwertyin practice the people with the money to buy these vehicles will spend a fair amount of time tooling around in west London. Thanks for the observations.
Bought one because of your reviews- I did a test drive obv but this thing looks like it will handle it all I am definitely going to f to add a bigger tank though
I love that thing. To me, the only downside and the main reason I wouldn't buy one is the BMW power train. I worked with Bmers and the straight 6 turbo is a great engine but I prefer simplicity on those kind of vehicles. I would stick with Toyota for that reason. With a 3UR FE engine will be like take my money...
I recently completed a 25,000km trip around northern Australia starting and finishing in Perth. I did see a few Grenadiers around the cities but very few (almost none) in the more remote areas (Queensland/NT). After watching this video I can only conclude that it is not the capability of the vehicle that makes it hard to use in these areas, but the range. I think I saw some underbody shots of the grenadier and it all looked pretty packed in with little space to install a proper long range fuel tank. The external tanks are a solution I guess, but as you said in the video they created extra work and personally I would not like the look of those things stuck on the outside. I would also be concerned about them falling off or failing physically, which could lead to very serious consequences away from other refuelling options.
Not only large batteries. All the “safety tech” that are mandatory are adding more and more weight also. In the case of the grenadier, the frame is just too massive (you would not believe how think the walls and the cross members are) also the axles are pretty heavy but also duty
Almost bought one because of you and maybe I would have if the dealership hadn’t been so far away. Ended up buying a 300 series. Very different car of course, but happy.
Any car with solid axels is easy to lift and stuck larger Tyres. Ineos show they will sell both models on portals from litech. Not best choice of company for portals I would much prefer 74weld. You move 2* front axel and steering issue is gone and steering wheel come back to center.
It's really REALLY impressive to engineer a car "out of nothing" as a first try, and get it so good.

Cheers
Toyota all day long ❤
So, Ronny what was the tire comparison to your LC? If you upsized the tires, would have it got stuck.
All over, an excellent review
A completely underrated car that won't sell because it doesn't have T on the front
Must be missing or not seen all the probs with current t's. Hope you come to your senses soon
15'
15,000 sold in Australia so far
15 thousand Grenadiers?@@michaelneville3455
I saw a grenadier in the parking lot recently. I must say, it looks like it means business!!!!
What it looks like, is a Defender. 😂
@@MudOilnGears .That was the whole idea!!
Looks like a great car. My only complaint, I cant afford one :)
I am bit suprised that he didnt adress the terrible turning ratio and the wiggly steering on normal road!. Whit that ssid though, super impressive first car build, almost unheard off to get so little problems with a first model build.
Dad used to call them
" Escape Wagon's"
The Name is very
Volatile .
I hope they have American Variants .
I'de pay extra for the Amphibian package
Thought about it. Full-time 4x4 takes away the fun down though.
Has it been sold yet?
68L tank?? Crazy!
Those negatives would turn me off tbh, I'll stick with the 76.
Good review
interesting that the design team didn't give a crap about fuel range...
Aside from the vehicle, was it easy to get it and test drive from the company?
And don't forget to mention that the weight of the vehicle gives you the improved pay load when compared to others. It's a tough 4x4 by all measures from what I've seen.
The weight of the vehicle reduces the payload when you have a set GVM figure to hit?
The cooling of the B57 in the hot Australian conditions I think will be its medium to long-term issue.
I was really hoping for a review on how it went towing a caravan, especially considering it is up against Cruisers, the 76/79 series and even Patrols.
Great series Ronny, but the 64 thousand dollar question...if could only have one vehicle and same budget to spend...what would you buy ?
Better then a any other new 4x4
I wish Toyota would copy the Grenadier's prewired switch block and plug setup on their Land Cruisers and 4Runners; at least on the TRD/Trail trims.
Many thanks for this, I have been eagerly awaiting this review and now the question remains… should I upgrade to the ineos grenadier from my 2014 LR defender 110 2.2 ??
it's a four wheel drive. DESIGNED as a four wheel drive.. you lucky vegemite. Thanks
Saw a Quartermaster the other day. If I was shopping around for a 6 figure 4wd it would be pretty hard to walk past it
This thing is tougher than a 70 series, and a lot more comfortable.
Bring a single cab out ill buy one
What chair are you siting on at camp Ronny?
Right at the end of the video: “but would you buy one” - “if I didn’t have the 76” … but buys a Prado.
Bought one because of your reviews- I did a test drive obv but this thing looks like it will handle it all
I am definitely going to f to add a bigger tank though
Petrol vs diesel ineos..... pros n cons?
Range is mostly the pro for the diesel. Torque also for towing
They already released from Brown a long range tank adding another 68L
Great option for people that have the money but not the time to muck around with accessories
Wish we could get the diesel here in America
Australian jumping into a pond: as a European I am sincerely concerned
Ineos clearly helped Ronny on what to say and report on. Ineos always have control on output.
The new Prado is about the same at 2.5 - 2.60 tons. They're only going to get heavier when they all have large batteries
Would you go Brown Davis or Long Range Automotive for the long range tank and why?
Good question
LR haven't released the tank yet, but from feedback so far on the BD, it still needs tweaking.
Any car with solid axels is easy to lift and stuck larger Tyres. Ineos show they will sell both models on portals from litech. Not best choice of company for portals I would much prefer 74weld. You move 2* front axel and steering issue is gone and steering wheel come back to center.
