If you have a young family, do mostly light duties with little or occasional towing and like to lease your vehicle go the Everest. If you want to keep your car for long term and plan to do outback driving or towing a caravan around Austrlia. Go the MU-X, It is a favourite of the grey nomads for a reason.

Like the look of the Everest but in South Africa we only get the bi-turbo sport and V6 platinum and they are both ridiculously expensive. Just bought the LS-T (onyx here) . Swopped out the tyres for 18 ATs. Drive is truck like but better than Fortuner. Simple controls and performs well off road. Leather seats are sweaty in heat ( a far cry from the Napa of my previous Jeep) and I cannot seem to find a comfortable seating position. Its utilitarian but I hope it will keep for 10 years or so… not much hope for the piano black bits in the interior tho! So far, cloth in car to wipe down after use… this enthusiasm will probably fade over time😂. Guess only time will tell if after sales service is any good. For now, Donkey(MU-X) and I will motor on…

Reliability not considered. My 2018 Everest Trend has had a multitude of problems. Transmission replaced after 2 years of complaining, AdBlue heater (recall), AdBlue injector ($1700) and heater pump (approx $2000) replaced, all 4 doors corroded and are being replaced. Gearbox playing up again. Now out of warranty and I am too scared to keep it. So I am considering the MUX for reliability - I hope.

For me, the MU-X value proposition outweighs the Everest - for the price difference I can live without the enormous ipad, fancy pants driving modes, the 20" wheels and a real-world fuel consumption of well over 10l/100 (that claimed 7.6 l/100 is not even possible if you pushed it, downhill in neutral). MU-X could obviously do with an improved on-road drive feel as it is very obviously a body on ute chassis (the Everest feels way more improved in this department) but for gravel/offroad it outshines the Everest, & for towing, the 6 speed gearbox is sublime. The MU-X interior is rather utilitarean at best, but the LST model does provide for some improvements to bring it marginally closer to the Everest - although you would be hard pressed to see the difference between specs just by looking at them. I also prefer the flat folding MU-X 3rd row (Everest causes a rearward slide of anything larger than a carry-on bag due to the "non-flat" nature). Finally, Isuzu reliability v Ford - enough said: Isuzu hands down!

The Ford meets the latest Euro 6 passenger vehicle standard, yes that means diesel exhaust fluid. Isuzu 3.0 is Euro 5b, allowed at the time of compliance in Australia but not most other world markets. Slightly better than utes and commercials with just a DPF, huge difference to the modern Euro 6 pollution standard.

Kind of silly to compare the two specs except if you look at just price. The 2.0L ford will undoubtedly have less longevity than the Isuzu especially if you give the car work to do towing etc. so if it’s driving around town, the ford, anything else you’d go isuzu.
