THE perfect tutorial I was looking for, I put on 1.75 speed and captions to condense the content. Removing overgrown cuticle and pushing or clipping the eponychium (nobody recommends the latter) can go awry easy so be super gentle anyone who is reading. I never understood putting oil on a surface that's about to be bonded with polish, but your evaporator seems to have fixed that. Happy Nailing!
Great tutorial. As a nail tech two suggestions. First don't use cuticle oil to push back your cuticles, use cuticle remover and buff your nails after. Second: Seal the free edge first and then polish your nails. That's what we do in the salon and what I do at home. Your just doing it backwards. If you do the free edge first, you won't have such a big bulky edge. Use cuticle oil at the very end of the manicure. Great job. I am extremely Impressed by your tutorial and how well you polish your nails. You so a great job. Also. Many people pay to have long nails like your natural nails. You have great nails.
The oil and gently pushing them back is better, and not removing them at all. That’s our body’s way of keeping out harmful infections. The oil and gently pushing them back is much safer. Nail techs have destroyed my nails by removing cuticles. This is why I do my own now.
THIS IS THE HACK, GUYS!!! I watched this video almost two weeks ago. I never had at-home gel that lasted more than 5 days. This lasted 12 days before one of them chipped. My nails are thin so this has always been a struggle. Thank you for this video!!!!
Watching this so I can try to do my Wife’s nails here aren’t lasting more than 4-5 days. I’ve painted cabinets, walls, trim, boats and floors but ..never nails, thanks for the great info.
This is amazing!! The real trick to making it last is understanding the prep and with your background I think you’ve got it down! I would love to see a picture of you guys once they are done! Tag me or send the photo to any of my social media @twoafterido :)
A couple of tips I've learned: start painting with the pinky so you don't risk messing up the rest your nails as you move on to the next one. And cap your nail edge first and then paint the nail to remove any "hump" that might appear from capping. It just evens it out. 😊
You can do this - practice makes perfect! I do my own nails, cut my own hair/bangs, but I get a pedicure once a month. Can’t bend or see well enough to take care of my toes anymore. Well worth it $$
I've never got my nails done professionally before but I think it's a good idea to do it at least once so you can pick up tips from what professionals do to hopefully make it look nicer and last longer🙃
For sure, It’s definitely a different experience getting them done professionally, can’t say I don’t miss the lotion hand/arm massage you get at the end. Not sure how much in terms of technique you’ll pick up at the salon since in my experience they don’t explain what they are doing, but you could try :)
Thank you for this tutorial. Your nails look lovely. I have one bit of advice for all you young ladies who use these lamps. Apply some sunscreen to your fingers and hands before starting. Years of sun/UV exposure will age your skin. No need to speed up age spots when you are young.
I've ambitiously purchased a starter kit and failed my first attempt 2 weeks ago, I've been bummed out about my wasted money. After watching this I realize where I went wrong😅😂 will be giving a second try today❤
Pls don’t stop practicing if you failed again. I have been doing my nails (practicing at least) for over a year! And I can finally make them last more than 2 weeks with no lifting!! I do soft gel nail extensions on myself. I will now try to master regular gel manicure since my nails are much sturdier ever since I’ve started treating my nails by myself. ❤
very informative and perfect for me. you spoke slowly enough that I could understand but fast enough that the video wasn't an hour long. I'm going to try this soon. i give you a 10. thank you.
I knew to ‘seal’ the edge of the nail, but your method is much smarter. It’s where I have the most trouble with my manicure as well, so I think this will really make the difference. Thanks! P. S. Your wedding rings are stunning! ❤️
Thanks! Yess! It really reinforces my nails and makes a huge difference in how long they last! If you try it out I would love to see the results. You can send me a picture or tag me on Instagram at @twoafterido :)
Maaaaan thank you so much for this! I’ve been a serious nail biter my entire life and nail extensions have been the only thing that’s stopped me from biting, whenever my nails finally grow out and I think I’m ready to have natural nails, I do a terrible job painting them with gel and end up going back to biting. This is the first time in my life I’ve ever successfully painted them!! You’ve helped me become x1000 more confident to show off my hands thank you!!
Never use cuticle oil until the very end of the manicure. The most important part of doing a gel manicure that will last is that the nails need to be prepped properly as well as dry as possible. I’ve been a nail tech for 20 years and the best product to use to push your cuticles and remove all the pterygium (skin that sticks on your nail bed) is alcohol.....it allows softening of the cuticles so they can be pushed back and, it loosens the pterygium for removal and it aids in dehydrating the nail bed for better adhesion I know the oil was wiped off but to not use it at all would ensure the longevity of the gel manicure I hope these tips help ☺️ oh! Also, capping the free edge of the nail with the polish will seal the nail to help avoid any chipping ......good luck!
Thanks for the advice and explanation! I will keep this in mind and try it out one day. I honestly am just so used to doing my cuticles this way and it has always worked amazing so I never had a reason to find alternatives. Thanks for commenting 😊
If you watch the video when I am painting the color gel polish I show it. Capping is basically painting the very edge of your nail where you would normally trim it. Instead of painting on top of your nail your actually painting that raw edge that you just trimmed. 😊
Yes! I have heard this. I do sometimes skep cutting them and just push them but there is just something so satisfying about freshly cut cuticles that I just can’t help myself!
I've been doing mine after buying 70 bottles gel polish to so my nails. Saved so much money. They're better than the salon and my nails aren't weak. My favorite brands for gel polish are IBD, Kiara Sky and OPI😊
That’s awesome! Yes it’s such a money saver. I think it pays for it self within 2-3 times of at home application. I actually haven’t tried Opi gel polishes, didn’t even think to check that brand. I’ll check out your recommendations! Thanks!
You’re opening yourself up to so many problems mixing brands. If you’re not professionally trained please stop. Is saving a few ££ worth being unable to ever have your nails done again from losing your nails through separation or worse, severe allergic reaction which has implications on healthcare such as dentistry. The day they stop allowing non trained professionals to buy this 🙌🏻 it’s literally a pandemic in itself the damage being done
This was an awesome tutorial!! Pure gold for a newbie like me. I've gotten so frustrated before with chipping gel nails, but now I see where I was going wrong. Thank you for this!!
Thanks for sharing this super detailed video! I’m tired of paying all that money and never leave nail salon happy! Either too thick or too thin. I’m ordering a kit on Amazon ASAP and will follow your tips! This is a way to pamper myself on a Sunday without the huge price tag. I love to paint my nails, but also so doing dishes which is why I started doing gel, because it lasts longer. But I’m excited to start saving money. Thanks for sharing w all of us. 🌺🤗
You’re welcome! I’m glad this was helpful :) I’m excited for you to try gel nails at home, let me know how it goes! I’d love to see a picture when you’re done. You can DM on Instagram @twoafterido , hope you enjoy!! ☺️
@@CreateYourSpace_. I totally would, but I don’t have IG, I’m so excited I want to take off gel I just got last weekend! The girl did a horrible job. Which is why I decided to do them myself, I think I could to better or at least same and cut the cost! Lol
Love love love that you showed AND explained every detail of the process. It was super helpful! Especially when you were talking about the base coat still being tacky and the first coat of gel being thin. Thank you!!!! Can’t wait to watch more of your vids!
@@CreateYourSpace_.Hello! I just came across this and so happy I did. Just last week I was thinking of trying this at home. Can you please tell me what I should be looking for in the type of lamp I should purchase and polish please. I will appreciate your help. I have never had gel polish on my nails before.
a good thing to do is apply your cuticle oil before you apply the acetone soaked cotton ball . it keeps your cuticles from getting dehydrated too bad and it will wash off when you wash your hands giving you a clean surface to polish. apply again after done
I love this. I work a full time job and have 6 kids...as much as i wish i lived a life where i could paint my nails frequently thats not my reality. But i still want to look nice and put together. Im definitely trying this. ❤❤❤
First, I'm so thankful I found you! I tried a home gel nail kit two years ago, and a few of my nails started peeling after two days. Now that I've watched this video, I'm ready to try again. Great tips, too. Second, bless you for answering every comment (at least what I read). Subscribed already and looking forward to more of your videos! ❤
You know what, this actually seems super intuitive. I recently had acrylic nails French tip and when I got home it bothered me so much that the free edge wasn’t painted white too. I was like, if I did my nails I would do this so it looks better. I am going to start doing my own gel mani/pedis at home to save money! Thank you for the amazing tip and all around helpful video! ❤
@@GS__ gotcha! thats commitment! I wouldn't have the heart to remove perfectly good polish! If it makes you happy though then you do you! :) thanks for clarifying
Instead of using the cuticle oil, you can use cuticle softener/remover. It’s specifically designed to soften cuticle for removal and the oil is the finishing step to moisturize the cuticles after polish and it doesn’t have to be removed. 😊
As a professional nail technician, Oil should never be used before the gel application. It causes lifting of product. All oil, lotion and paraffin should be applied after the gel application.
I understand where you’re coming from, I was also taught this. However I disagree. My gel application lasts 4+ weeks every time and I always apply oil to soften and condition my cuticles. Once I’m done pushing them back I throughly clean my nail beds with acetone to ensure my polish adheres to the nail bed, works every single time :)
This video was great! I’m about to attempt doing gel nails at home so I really needed this entire tutorial. You’re directions were very clear and I look forward to investing in all the tools needed to do this at home. Thank you!
Thank you! I love that you found this useful and I hope you enjoy doing gel nails at home. I would love to see your nails when you try them! You can tag me on Instagram or send me a picture via email at twoafterido@gmail.com . Enjoy!
I love this video and thank you so much! I was a person that got my nails did every two weeks faithfully but my nails start to have an indenture so I stop getting them done. I have bought the stuff to do poly gel nails and gel nails. I will try your technique and let you know how well I did . Thanks again!

you did a great job ! perfect nails with & without polish ! irritated that everyone has so much to say about your work, forgetting part of the luxury of taking care of ourselves at home is being able to do what we want and what we’re comfortable with ! thank you for sharing with the world. keep it up and keep going ! never mind the world full of professionals 💕
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed and found it useful :) that is what it’s all about, self care and being able to make yourself feel beautiful even during times like these when salons were closed!
You’re welcome! I am so glad you found this helpful. Tag me or send me a pic of your nails on Instagram when you do them next! It’s @twoafterido, I would love to see them!
Thank-you for your nail tutorial 😊 I used the 3 steps OPI gel polish on my natural nails because it does not require a lamp to cure. I have been wearing Dior Nail Glow for nearly two years because it's an easy process but today I decided to use the gel polish by OPI.
You are literally the first person I've ever heard say that you don't have to cut your cuticles 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 You're so right. In fact, you don't even have to push them back. There aren't any health benefits whatsoever for cutting and/or pushing back your cuticles. In fact, dermatologists argue that you shouldn't mess around with your cuticles. It can cause more harm than good (infections) and it's something that nail technicians do solely for aesthetic purposes. The most I do (sometimes) is push back my cuticles gently when my nails are free of the gel products, ready for reapplication. My nails are healthy, strong and growing rapidly so I must be doing something right 🥰
Yes!! It’s not necessary at all and I don’t ever pressure people to do it. A little coconut oil and a push back looks just as clean. I do usually push them back but have never had an issue, my nails grow pretty quick and are healthy! I think the oil helps :)
@@CreateYourSpace_. the oil definitely helps! 🥰 I apply cuticle oil every day and have noticed it has massively improved the condition of my nails, combined with the gel products.
Yess amazing! I’m so glad this was helpful for you! It’s the best feeling to be able to do your own nails at home anytime of day and not rely on salon appts!
I stumbles across this video from my recommended, SUPER helpful! I was shocked to see how few subscribers you have, the quality of the video is similar to those with millions! You’re going to grow to become a big UA-camr one day 🥰
Used the polishing method as a first time gel polish user. Great advice, I’m grateful! I know this is an old video, but I will say that using oil to push back cuticles is awesome, just want to leave out cutting them, bc it leaves us open to infection. It’s a protective barrier. Otherwise, this was so helpful!!❤
I’ve never understood how to do a manicure. So I’ve been stuck paying $100-$130 for gel mani/pedi about twice a month. Change of income forced me to learn. Thank you for these videos! I’ve gotten so much better
That’s great! Thanks so much, I really wanted this to be as helpful as possible! I have another video on basics and essentials so you don’t waste your money on useless products :) thanks for commenting!
Yes you always cure between every coat. So if you did 2 base coats you would apply one layer, cure it then apply a second layer of base coat and cure again.
Omg, THANK YOU! I have been so confused about the base coat part. Every single video says to apply a thin coat of base coat, and then they always proceed to apply a huge coat lol… it’s never a thin coat. So I have been confused like is it a thin coat or a thick coat?! One site I read said to barley coat it, and brush should almost be dry. Yours looks like a thin coat, but not insanely thin. So tired of influencers saying to use a thin coat, but for videos, they glop it on, confusing everyone. Thank you for the clear video.
You're welcome! I am glad this helped! You want enough base coat to cover your finger nail forsure, that is what base coat is for. The reason you should avoid putting ALOT is because then it gets clumpy and thick under the actual color and won't look even. I would say aim for applying base coat how you would apply one coat of regular nail polish (enough that you know your nail is covered but not so much that you know you need to add a second coat) hopefully that makes sense!
Hi there. Greetings from South Africa. Have to compliment u on your patience and replying to every question and individual. Not everyone reply to questions from subscribers. Thank you once again. I stumbled upon your tutorial n it's just what I needed. 👌🤝🥰
Oh no that shouldn’t be happening! I think your nails are probably not being prepped properly so the gel is not adhering to your nail like it should. Gel should last much longer than that. Let me know if you try the steps in this video and if it made a difference :) I would love to see your nails.
Great job! I had my gel polish that was lifting off very quickly. I use to wear it for 3 weeks. I was so frustrated so I found your video. I’m trying out your method now. I’ll let ya know how I do!!! Thanks for sharing❤️
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful and can’t wait to hear your results :) I would love to see a picture! You can DM me on Instagram or tag me @twoafterido :)
Thank you for the tutorial. I’ve been doing my gel nails for a little while when I soak my nails I just put them. I had seen somebody else do this and I thought it was great. I put a bowl with water in the microwave and then I put in a plastic bag, acetone and soak one hand, as you first file, it comes out and I proceed with the steps you showed us. I’ve never used a primer, but I thought that would be beneficial. left hand I can always do my left hand well right hand a little bit iffy so I have to take my time and doing it ha ha ha ha thank you ❤
My wife cuts my hair so I told her I would learn to do her nails. I also have 2 daughters (10 and 11) so I’ll get a lot of practice. Thank you for explaining everything so well!!
Girl, you have saved my sanity. I have been trying to do this for over ten years. I bought a kit and threw it away. I just got another big kit for my birthday. I was getting ready to sell it. I didn't know that after I cured the base coat under the lamp that it would still be tacky/wet. I was ready to sell all 30 of my gel polishes and the lamp. I'm going in again. Wish me luck.
Haha yess your welcome! So many people try touching the base coat after they cure it to see if it worked lol it’s totally normal for it to be sticky! In fact that’s what you want so the next later adheres to it :) good luck and I would love to see your nails when you’re done! Tag me or send me a phone @twoafterido on all social media platforms :)
This actually makes so much sense since the tip of the nail is always first to chip away, if you make it stronger it'll take less time to come off, thanks for the tip even though I'm just seeing it a year later 👌
These are the BEST tips ever I have to hit that red button. I have EVERYTHING you have and still learning to work it. SO this helped a lot. Can you do a video on how to trim the cuticles?🥺🥺 I don't know how to use the tool. But great video and beautiful nails!
Thank you so much! Your comment is so sweet and thanks for the support! I will put the cuticle tutorial on my list of todo’s and get it up on my channel as soon as I can! Keep an eye out for it!

A big thank you for this video! I have been doing my gel nails at home since about halfway into the pandemic. These tips are really helpful. I know expert of course but I'm working at it!
I'm definitely going to invest in these products. I literally just paid $30.40 for everything you just did at home (which I find to be quite expensive for polish with out fake nails added . Including the fact that the salon work only lasts about a week give or take a couple days. I believe I can do this myself and save money.
Yes! Honesty it pays for it self after 2-3 times of use. Also your salon polish should last way more than 1 week! You can definitely do this better at home :) I would love to see your nails when you try it, tag me @twoafterido on social media or DM me!
Thank you so much! That was my goal and I’m so glad it was helpful for you! Thank you for commenting :) also I would love to see how your nails turn out if you try this at home! You can send me a picture or tag me on Instagram @twoafterido
Thanks for video I diden't know about sealing the edges of the nail. But that makes since in the ceiling of the polish. Then curing the nail Thank you for this video.
5:53 remove oil with acetone. Oil will cause gel to lift 6:13 Gel Primer Over each nail. Evaporates 6:37 top and base coat 8:29 stay tuned 8:42 let it stay sticky 10:50 build extra polish near the edge
Thanks for breaking down a portion of my video to the parts you think would be important for everyone else. I think something you might be missing some stuff in your comment though like the nail prep prior to primer which can make or break your manicure or finishing your manicure after the top coat etc. But thanks for commenting to try and make it easier ☺️
My gel nail polish usually doesn’t last after the first 2 days especially after doing house work. I did house work the day after using your tutorial to apply my gel and it hasn’t lifted yet. It has started peeling at the edges but it’s rather small compared to the method I used to do. I guess with practice the gel will last longer and I’ll be able to correct my technique ❤ Thank you ❤
Amazing! Yes it shouldn’t lift with housework. I do dishes, cook, clean at home and mine last 4 weeks. Try to stay away from the skin/cuticles when painting. That’s usually a common reason that an edge will lift because it allows air to get under the polish :)
My nails grow extremely fast and I ain’t gonna break the bank going to the salon every week so I’ve just ordered a gel polish starter kit from beetle gel. Looking forward to trying these tips! Never done my own gel nails before. Wish me luck!
Nice! Yes, you can save so much money doing your nails at home. Good luck! I’d love to see your nails when you try it out, you can tag me on Instagram @twoafterido or dm me a pic!
@@CreateYourSpace_. I just did a gel polish for the time yesterday at the salon, but I was wondering is there any side effect to using the UV on the hands because I am planning on getting my kits and do at home . Way too expensive at the salon ☺️
Nice! Yes so a UV light does have UV rays but if you want to protect your skin you can use sunscreen on the back of your hands before your manicure or you can wear gloves with the finger tips cut off so your skin is protected in the lamp! Hope this helps :)
i love gel nails cause my polish always chips and my nails are so thin, but i don’t wanna spend sm money on a mani every couple of weeks 😭 ty for this video!! also side tip for anybody wanting nail oil for cheap: jojoba oil is one of the best oils you can use! i get a small bottle from trader joe’s and use it on nails + hair. i’ve had it for over a year and haven’t run out yet! u can also buy refillable nail oil syringes for cheap on amazon. i have three that i keep in my purse, bedside, and in my travel bag. none have run out and ive been using them for about 6 months (:
Thank you so much. I have all the stuff just didn't know what to do with it! I hope to get better with practice and hopefully mine looks as good as yours in time! Thanks so much ❤
Wow you really explained everything very well thank you so much I usually just glob everything on my nails with regular nail polish so now I really see how to do it properly thank you I hope my nails turn out as good as yours
Thank you! I’m glad this was helpful :) try it this way and let me know how it turns out! You can send me a picture of your nails on Instagram @twoafterido :)
Yeah I like using oil as well before application, many people disagree saying it will cause you gel polish to lift but I just make sure to clean the surface throughly right before applying my base coat!
Thanks so much for this video. I pay $250 for both my daughter and myself and I have been noticing that our nails don’t last a week anymore. I believe it’s that she is not sealing the edge. She used but not anymore. I have been wondering what changed but now I know. If you don’t mind can you show how you did your right hand if you did yourself- that’s another hack I will like to know. Great video ❤
Yes that could be it! I actually have a video on my channel about how to pain with your non dominant hand and there are lots of good tips in there :) good luck!!
My bestie spends 60$ every week to get nails done. I cant afford that. I dont work as I am on hopsice/palliative care and mostly on the couch. I do my own hair(color and streak)(my fiancée helps me). Even tho i am sick, i still like to look nice. I am grateful for all the info you have given me. I am going to see if you have a video for true beginners. One question? Can i use the gel polish for my toenails too?
I absolutely understand and that is a lot of money to commit! I love helping people like your self save money and gain the confidence to do these things for ourselves! I admire your passion and commitment to making yourself feel beautiful no matter what and applaud you for choosing YOU! I have a video on essentials for beginners which goes over tools you need vs things you can skip so that should be helpful as well and yes you can absolutely use gel polish on your toenails! I hope you enjoying doing gel nails and on a personal note, I wish you the best and thank you for sharing your story ❤️
Geez not perfect! The first coat was THE MOST PERFECT application I’ve ever seen lol. You have beautiful nails and the video was super helpful thank you so much x
This is called "capping a nail" and should be done whenever you use polish or gel to reduce chipping. However, if you have very short nails this is pretty difficult, and it won't help chipping if you have weak nails, for that you need a builder gel to strengthen them.
Thanks for the info! Yes, I do find though that building up polish on top of the nail at the edge (like how I do on my second coat of coloured polish) does actually help give weak nails that extra reinforcement and stops them from bending under pressure. Not sure if polygel and builder gel are the same thing but polygel is the only other method I have tried to achieve long last nails at home and in comparison this method of gel polish lasts way longer for me than polygel.
@@CreateYourSpace_. poly gel and builder gel are different. Polygel isn't self leveling, and thicker, you can created dents with poly gel. Builder gel is like gel nail polish but thicker and stronger. FYI, you could also so this trick with your base coat or just do more base coats. I actually do 2 base and 2 top and no color. Then I'll paint my nails with regular polish. It gives me a stronger nail to work with and also allows me to change out polish more often because it's just a regular polish. It's a nice option if you like to "change it up" a bit.
Oo that is an awesome idea! I have never tried putting regular polish on top of gel. The only other thing I’ve tried is the gel nail sandwich where you use base and top coat in gel and the colour in the middle is regular polish. Would you mind if in the future I made a video on your technique? Of course all credit given to you in my video! Or if you are also a UA-camr we could do a collab! ❤️
@@CreateYourSpace_. please give it a try! I have incredibly weak nails (honestly, they're garbage) and have tried all the tricks. Tbh, I follow gentlewhisperingasmr's vlog channel and she mentioned it's what she does, and I was floored! I did some reading and found an article about "clear gel manicure" from 2016 and HAD to try it. I have also tried the "gelly sandwich" in the past and it did not work for me, I started doing some reading after the fact on Reddit and a couple people on there said it was because it takes regular nail polish like 8 hours to fully cure and you need to let it do that before putting the gel topcoat on or it doesn't work right?! So yeah, try it out, and let me know how you like it!
If you leave the acetone on the other fingers as you work through you won’t have any problems with stubborn areas. Also using foil creates heat which will help speed up the process xx
Thanks!! Yes I have tried to leave it on the other fingers but next thing you know my clips are flying and cotton buds falling everywhere 😂😂 maybe I need to do one hand at a time!
@@CreateYourSpace_. it will lift away better with more time. I normally leave it 15 minutes I stopped using the clips on myself for that reason haha, there good on clients though. You have great prep and the shape is beautiful. Xx
If I could give this stars it would be all 5! This is the BEST tutorial for beginners. So helpful! Question: is the consistency of gel polish the same as regular polish or thicker? Lastly, you have absolutely beautiful nails!
Thank you! I’m so glad it’s helpful that’s the goal!! You’re too kind. I would say gel polish is very similar to a regular nail polish consistency but it never dries so you can repeat the same stroke a few times to get it nice and even and not worry about it getting sticky/bubbly/patchy like regular polish since it starts to dry instantly. Hope this makes sense!
@@rondas7772 @Ronda S Capping the free edge means applying polish to the very edge of your nail where you would cut it. Its the edge that is exposed, if you watch my video I show it when I paint the black polish on my nail at around 12:03. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much this video is so helpful. I have the red carpet gel manicure set and I watched another video that really just didn’t work so I came across yours watched it twice it worked wonderfully thank you so much!
Ok so this was the first time so they aren’t great but your technique is definitely a game changer and I saw that right away. I don’t need help polishing my nails I basically needed to know how to make this manicure, and the product work for me and you provided that so once again, thank you so much and when I do it again I promise it’ll be much better- it won’t be 10 o’clock at night and I’m barely awake lol and I’ll be sure to reach out to you on IG.😀
Thanks so much! That means a lot and you are so kind! No worries I totally get it! Practice makes perfect so just keep going and whenever you want to share them I would be happy to see! Good luck!
This was a great tutorial!!! The "cuticles" you cut aren't really your cuticles, what you cut is the proximal nail fold. The cuticle is the hard stuff on the nail and the oil isn't a good choice to remove this. Also, I wouldn't recommend mixing brands of gel base/top coat and color. Some formulas aren't compatible and will not create a lasting mani. I'd also recommend cleaning the nails with isopropyl alcohol before the prep and base coat to ensure they're clean from all oils and dust.
THE perfect tutorial I was looking for, I put on 1.75 speed and captions to condense the content. Correct!
Sorry not sure what you’re referring to for locking. Could you rephrase it? Thanks!
@Charity Lumna are you talking about how to cure the gel?
The gel polish is cured under a uv or led lamp for 60-90 seconds.

omg i hadn’t thought to seal first and THEN go over !!
The oil and gently pushing them back is better, and not removing them at all. That’s our body’s way of keeping out harmful infections. The oil and gently pushing them back is much safer.
Nail techs have destroyed my nails by removing cuticles. This is why I do my own now.
Should you buff or file the nails or both before adding dehydrator and primer?
@BellindahGama I file them to shape and buff them before applying dehydrator/primer :)
THIS IS THE HACK, GUYS!!! I watched this video almost two weeks ago. I never had at-home gel that lasted more than 5 days. This lasted 12 days before one of them chipped. My nails are thin so this has always been a struggle.
Thank you for this video!!!!
Yesss! That’s amazing! So glad this was helpful for you! You are very welcome :)
Can you do a classic French manicure
Watching this so I can try to do my Wife’s nails here aren’t lasting more than 4-5 days. I’ve painted cabinets, walls, trim, boats and floors but ..never nails, thanks for the great info.

Can I just say that it’s great that you’re doing that? It’s great that you’re doing that. I hope she appreciates and that it looks fabulous.
@ Thank you Lorene ❤️
A couple of tips I've learned: start painting with the pinky so you don't risk messing up the rest your nails as you move on to the next one. And cap your nail edge first and then paint the nail to remove any "hump" that might appear from capping. It just evens it out. 😊
Love it! Thanks for sharing. I like to start with my pinky especially when I’m doing regular polish otherwise everything gets messy!
@@CreateYourSpace_. do you have a video on lamps?
I don’t unfortunately, I’m not an expert when it comes to them. I am sure there are some other great videos here in UA-cam though!
You can flash cure after doing the nail and not worry about it going anywhere.
Is flash curing just leaving one finger in the lamp for a short amount of time as you paint each one?
It's $40 for a gel manicure in my town and I can't justify spending that, so I'm going to try doing it myself. Very good tutorial!
Yes! Go for it! It honestly has saved me so much money in the long run.
You can do this - practice makes perfect! I do my own nails, cut my own hair/bangs, but I get a pedicure once a month. Can’t bend or see well enough to take care of my toes anymore. Well worth it $$
Agreed! Love all the DIYs your doing!
Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks so much for sharing that I pray all goes well with me. Bless you!
Can you do gel polish without a uv light?
@thefarmista no you need the light to cure the polish. Gel polish doesn’t “dry” like regular polish. It will stay liquidy.
@@thefarmistano, but they also make gloves specifically to protect your hands from the uv light as well
I've ambitiously purchased a starter kit and failed my first attempt 2 weeks ago, I've been bummed out about my wasted money. After watching this I realize where I went wrong😅😂 will be giving a second try today❤
Haha oh no! Yess try again I’m sure you will do better this time, good luck! :)
@Jadiex18 that’s amazing!
It’s very relaxing and satisfying watching people neatly pant their nails, I love dark nails on other people, just not myself
Thank you! I agree I love watching people paint their nails! You should try dark polish, maybe a matte finish might help?
very informative and perfect for me. you spoke slowly enough that I could understand but fast enough that the video wasn't an hour long. I'm going to try this soon. i give you a 10. thank you.
Thanks so much!! Glad it was helpful :)
I knew to ‘seal’ the edge of the nail, but your method is much smarter. It’s where I have the most trouble with my manicure as well, so I think this will really make the difference. Thanks!
P. S. Your wedding rings are stunning! ❤️

Awww I am so happy this helped you! Thank you for sharing and commenting, I love seeing comments like this! I am so happy for you :)
Hello
I'm a beginner and i do not know what you mean by capping 💀
If you watch the video when I am painting the color gel polish I show it. Capping is basically painting the very edge of your nail where you would normally trim it. Instead of painting on top of your nail your actually painting that raw edge that you just trimmed. 😊
I was gonna say the same but also it’s best not to cut your cuticle either, just push it back and remove the dust with soap/brush.
Thanks!
@@AmysNails What are you talking about? I'm not mixing brands of different gel polish.
@@AmysNails what is wrong with mixing brands lmao

@@CreateYourSpace_.Hello! I just came across this and so happy I did. Just last week I was thinking of trying this at home. Can you please tell me what I should be looking for in the type of lamp I should purchase and polish please. I will appreciate your help. I have never had gel polish on my nails before.
a good thing to do is apply your cuticle oil before you apply the acetone soaked cotton ball . it keeps your cuticles from getting dehydrated too bad and it will wash off when you wash your hands giving you a clean surface to polish. apply again after done
Great tip! Thanks!

I'm a newbie when it comes to doing nails, and this helped me a LOT, thank you!!!
Your welcome! I am glad it helped :)
Instead of using the cuticle oil, you can use cuticle softener/remover. It’s specifically designed to soften cuticle for removal and the oil is the finishing step to moisturize the cuticles after polish and it doesn’t have to be removed. 😊
Yes thanks for the tip! I have used softener in the past and it does work for sure. I just think oil is just more affordable and works just as well :)

I used the 3 steps OPI gel polish on my natural nails because it does not require a lamp to cure. I have been wearing Dior Nail Glow for nearly two years because it's an easy process but today I decided to use the gel polish by OPI.
Nice! Good luck :)

I’m so glad!! I still do my nails this way even years later so none of the advice is anything I would go back on :)

for me a trick that worked to make it last longer is doing 2 coats of the base coat. i need to try this to make it last even better
Nice! Yeah I have had a few people suggest 2 base coats as well. Thanks!
Do you cure in between?
Yes you always cure between every coat. So if you did 2 base coats you would apply one layer, cure it then apply a second layer of base coat and cure again.
@@CreateYourSpace_. thank you
Omg, THANK YOU!

Same here. Sadly every gel manicure i ever had lasts only a few days and then I can peel it off like a sticker

What do you mean by capping?
Capping is what I do near the end of the video with the clear top coat, basically applying it to the free edge of your nail.

My first try doing gels myself they lasted a week and 2 days. I guess that’s not a bad start. Will keep trying!
Nice! Yes keep trying, you’ll get the hang of it :)
My gel nail polish usually doesn’t last after the first 2 days especially after doing house work. I did house work the day after using your tutorial to apply my gel and it hasn’t lifted yet.
It has started peeling at the edges but it’s rather small compared to the method I used to do. I guess with practice the gel will last longer and I’ll be able to correct my technique ❤
Thank you ❤
Wish me luck!

i love gel nails cause my polish always chips and my nails are so thin, but i don’t wanna spend sm money on a mani every couple of weeks 😭 ty for this video!! also side tip for anybody wanting nail oil for cheap: jojoba oil is one of the best oils you can use! i get a small bottle from trader joe’s and use it on nails + hair. i’ve had it for over a year and haven’t run out yet! u can also buy refillable nail oil syringes for cheap on amazon. i have three that i keep in my purse, bedside, and in my travel bag. none have run out and ive been using them for about 6 months (:
Your welcome! I’d love to see your nails if you end up trying this at home! Thanks for the tip on the jojoba oil :)
Thank you so much. I have all the stuff just didn't know what to do with it! I hope to get better with practice and hopefully mine looks as good as yours in time! Thanks so much ❤
Of course! Im so glad this video was helpful! Thanks for commenting:)
I’ve never seen this method of gel removal, looks efficient
Thank you! ☺️
Thank you so much for this comprehensive, practical, and detailed information. It’s all very helpful! P.S. You have BEAUTIFUL hands and nails!
You’re welcome! I am glad it was helpful to you and thanks for the compliment :)
Best video on gel nails so far! Thank you 💐
Thank you!!
I watched a nail technician use nail oil before using acetone, then again before scraping apparently it’s better for your nails xx
Wow thank you so much! I’m so glad the video was helpful! 😊
Awesome thanks! Yes actually when I do my gelly sandwich I actually wait a day then put the gel top coat on the next day.
Xx
Nice! Thank you!! ❤️
@@CreateYourSpace_. no problem, is there anything else I can help with. Xx
How’s your knowledge on polygel? I can’t seem to master it!
Love the close ups love it
❤ easy to follow specially for beginners
Thank you!!
I just used this technique. I will update if my nails lasted . Thank you for helping me on my journey to not being so minimum lol
Amazing! Yes please come back and update me :)
Did they last?
@@alinasmit767 yes 👍
Amazing!
It really depends on the brand. Some are thin, some are thick, just like regular polish varies between brands.
I recommend capping the free edge on the base coat too 😊
thanks! thats a great idea!
What does that mean?
@@rondas7772 @Ronda S Capping the free edge means applying polish to the very edge of your nail where you would cut it. Its the edge that is exposed, if you watch my video I show it when I paint the black polish on my nail at around 12:03. Hope this helps!
You have beautiful nails and do an EXCELLENT job explaining step by step process!!
Thank you!
Really professional looking! I’m going to try this…for the second time. First time was a disaster.
Thank you! Hopefully this time will it will turn out better, good luck! :)
@@CreateYourSpace_. It worked well, thank you! I noticed my lamp is a UV lamp and it takes 2 min each time, not 1. 😄
Hmm interesting, maybe it’s the specific model. Be sure to wear sun screen on your hands before you start prepping your nails :)
@@CreateYourSpace_. yes M’am! I’m so excited. No more expensive, time invasive trips to nail salon. 😊
Girl looks so nice and professional! Nail salon whoooo😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for trick
Haha thank you! I haven’t been to a salon in years! 😂

There are tutorials and then there are tutorials and with yours you just dropped so many gems, really really helpful. Some just show you how to polish nails.
Good luck!
Thank you for this video! Very well explained! Cannot wait to start using your tips on my next home gel manicure!

Literally so perfect!! Will follow your steps and tricks on my next gel manicure 😍
Thank you! Send me a picture on Instagram, I would love to see how it turns out! 😊
@@CreateYourSpace_. will do!😊
Prettiest nail beds ever!!! Thank you great video!!
Thank you! I’m glad you liked the video! :)
Thank you! Thanks for sharing your tips as well!
