went back to gel recently after having a nightmare working with builder gel. in all honesty, it was my mistake as I was really impatient with the removal. my nails were paper thin, super sensitive and sore, and looked really rough. now that my nails are back to normal, I’m growing them out with just good old normal gel again. thanks for this!
Hey now peel off gels are really famous and lasts for weeks and protect nails from any damage. Hope you doing great. I used to have the same issue even with proper removal process, acetone damaged my natural nails
I just did builder gel and had it on for too long... I was picking my mum up from the airport and cracked my right thumb and it tore almost half way of the nail. My nails are still super damaged and it seems some of the nail got lifted as there is less of the pink nail bed itself left and more of the "white" part... I'm trying to nurse them back to some sort of health even though I don't think they'll ever go back to normal visually... I regret doing builder gel so much. I thought it would help my nails out because I'm a nurse (been working for a year) and my natural nails basically died-- they got super thin and weak and were always peeling and breaking... I'll never try builder gel again and I have had bad experiences with regular gel also because of overzealous drill use instead of waiting to soak them off. So I think once my nails get a bit stronger, I will try to do my own gel Manis at home.
I'vd just ordered a gel nail lamp and kit, I'm so excited so this video has been really helpful for me. I'll back again once the kit comes through and I need to do it!
Love the tutorial! I love having my nails done but don’t like the price and how rough others can be with mine so I’m devoted to perfecting my own manicure now lol thank you for the video
The easiest way (IMO obviously) is to use a rubber base to protect your natural nails. After the initial application, you don't have to remove all of it, you leave a thin layer to protect your nails. There are 2 ways I do it, the first is just removing color because I get bored with it. I use a carbide bit to remove the color only, then I use a hand file to smooth the remaining rubber base. Then use a flame bit to gently lift the proximal nail fold to remove any rubber base or cuticle from that area and also the side walls. After cleaning off dust and prepping with alcohol, I apply a very small amount of rubber base near that proximal nail fold like a tiny "fill" with a detail brush, then I apply my new color and top coat. The second way I do about every 2-3 weeks, and it involves taking down that rubber base to check for lifting and then applying new layers. I use the carbide bit to remove color, then a sanding band to remove rubber base. Once I can see my real nail plate I switch to a strong hand file (100/180) and continue to thin it. I also shape my nails at that time. If it lifts at all, I find that rubber base lifts in tiny round patches that are easily filled and self level with the next application.
I've trying to do my mani for years now and I struggle with the gel, with the extensions I gave it a try today (gel on natural nails) using your video and turned out som uch better
I switched to DND gel polish and it stays true to color and as shiny as the first day I did my nails. This is coming from an ER Catscan tech who is constantly washing her hands. I still love gelish but I feel like the top coat gets dull and the sanitizer changes the color.
I'm finding the new builder gels many brands have, or BIAB, to be so good I don't ever have to buff the nail to prepare anymore! Something worth checking out. But I rarely do a full remove, just buff off the colour and some of the builder and fill in.
Excellent video!! I really enjoyed that and you explain everything so wellAmanda! I have broken my ankle ( pirone and tibia ) was operated last week and I am sitting bored out of my mind ! Your youtube channel helps me get thru the day! Thankyou ❤️❤️❤️
I get most of my polishes and supplies from Amazon. Doing my own nails is something I’ve always done, but didn’t try gel polishes until 6-7 years ago. They are the best!😊
Love this informative video! This manicure looks amazing & is exactly how I love my nails to look! Ordered a few of your tools from Amazon so I will try this myself. I agree- salon does not turn out how I like nails to look New subbie- binge watching. 👄💄👄💄👄💜💜💜
Nice video! I had a really bad experience at a salon today- so I am going to start doing my own. What if I want just clear nails? Can i just use a few coats of top coat? Or is there a clear polish I should get? And can I mix brands? Ex use gelish base with OPI color and Gelish topcoat?
Great video, beautiful nails!! How long do you cure each time? Does it depend on the polish or lamp or both? My manicures start lifting on the sides, maybe buffing as you did and I will pay more attention to avoid paint on the skin or cuticles! Do you know if these products can be purchased in store? Would love to do my nails today!! Thanks so much!!❤
Your nails are so beautiful! 😍 What is your secret for keeping your nails looking so strong and healthy? I have thin, short nails and I am trying really hard to grow my natural nails. I love your channel! ❤
Hi! So, im a teenager, and im trying to learn how to do gel manicures. Do i have to do things like trim my cuticles, and apply oils, and do the spray stuff at the end and things of that nature? Obviously, buff and shape the nails, i plan on learning to do gel polish on press-ons as well. But i was wondering if i could just push my cuticles back, buff and shape, and apply the foundation coat, and start painting, or does it require all the extras?
Hi Amanda I’m from Egypt can you please type to me the names of all the brands you used for the builder Gel if you please ,it’s the first time doing it at home my myself Thanks
I have a question for you. Can a person use regular polish on gel nails are do you have to use gel polish on gel nails. I’m going to do my own gel nails for the first time. Would like to know if you know that. Love your videos. Thank you so much. Mary
I actually do this all the time. I have a gel overlay (it’s pretty much gel as a base) and then I paint my nails with regular polish, and regular top coat. I prefer this method mainly because I like to switch my polish frequently. But you have to let the gel fully cure. You can’t have it as a gel base, regular nail color and gel top coat. Unless the regular polish is fully dry. I believe Amanda has another video on gel overlay. UA-cam is great for that.
You could be doing too thick of a coat. When you do that the gel doesn't dry fully on the inside only the surface. Make sure you're also taking the top coat and "capping" the tips of your nails, which means just swipe the top coat on the tips so the entire nail is sealed in
Oh no! Peeling gel is usually a result of poor prep. Make sure you rough up the nail a bit (I like to do so just around the perimeter) so that the base coat adheres! Try to keep your nails out of water (wear dish gloves at the sink), and don't use your nails to pick or scratch at anything.

Hey Amanda , am new to gel polish and found your amazing video my problem with all nail polish it become smudge any ideas?!
what lamp are you using?? i’m looking to invest in one because my $30 one doesn’t seem to work well.
I have a question? I am a beginner. The color layers have to fully dry? Or do they ever fully dry?
After the dehydrator do you still put the primer or straight to base coat??
What do you use if removal is necessary? Regular polish does not work. Is there a special nail polish remover?
will your nails become damaged from using gel?
@Amanda Bellantoni
Please could you list the Gellish products you used? Thanks🙏🏻🙂
They’re all linked in the description box 💅🏼❤️
How many seconds you stay with the hand in the lamp? and how high the temperature is? thanks
What light do you recommend to cure the polish?
Beautiful nails!!
What is the best way to remove the polish?
I have a few videos on my channel - I love using the clips!!
Will the UV light hurt the parts of your hands that aren't covered?
Hi Amanda
I’m from Egypt can you please type to me the names of all the brands you used for the builder Gel if you please ,it’s the first time doing it at home my myself

Now, how do you take them off when it’s time to refresh? 😂
You soak them off

When do u do the dryer
Do you know where else you can buy polish from not avail on Amazon
How do your nails look so thick
Hi after I clean the nail
What is the gel that you put on with that light short brush?
Are you talking about the prep & primer?
Gellish is £12/$14 over here, can be expensive for a tiny 15ml /2oz bottle. I like Gellish but it's expensive! UK 🇬🇧
Thank you
How long should you cure?
how long it will stay
Just started doing my own gel nails. The polish peels off with 2 days

What do I do when my gel nails peal?? How can I stop that?! Please comment 👇

⭐⭐⭐⭐ VERY NICE !!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks so much!!
What’s the color?
It's Gelish "{All American Beauty"! It keeps selling out, but when it's available you can get it in regular polish from Morgan Taylor too ◡̈

Just use high SPF sunscreen on your hand. More effective and less accessories to buy!
