OMG! I was thinkg about this for some time now, like "how can you cap the free edge if the nail is too short?" and I always have the issue where my gel peels super easy, now I know why!!! Also, you help me with the tip of round corners... OMG, thank you SO MUCH!!!! I really appreciate all your videos and the way you teach!!! THANK YOU!!!
Ditto.... Thank you for helping us all.
DITTO!! Thanks
I love how thoroughly you explain every step without endless chatter.
IKR most people just go on and on about random stuff like- girl we came here for a tutorial not a story time-
I just saw this. I am newly retired and on social security and have sucked and doing my own nails. I missed my gel nails but I did this today after watching your tutorial and I AM AMAZED❤❤❤❤ Thank you so much! You made my day!!!

As a nail biter of 15+ years, THANK YOU!!
I’ve learnt more from this video than I have in the last 6 months of my nail course. Thanks so much! X
Me toooooo
You're nail course was months?
Well, guess I’ll just have to say
YOU DO OUR PROFESSION PROUD!!! 71 yo who let the license lapse last year , and sure enough, you go and teach an old (b-ch) dog new tricks 🥴. Always wore acrylic nails, watched your tutorials , and am now a convert !!! Who’d a thought ??? Elizabeth, if you’d been born 40 yrs ago and knew what you know now we’ll...there would be a whole lot less of infection and fugus and OMG!! Thank you, thank you and bless your heart, sweetie, for all you’re doing for this profession. Bless you and yep, Luminary has changed my life. Blessings, hugs, and if you were my granddaughter I’d be makin’ you tamales and cream puffs!!! Hugs
My whole nail journey started with me just trying to figure out some problems I was having with my gel polish. If I had found this video first I probably never would have learned how to do extensions lol. This is great info, I've been making a mess out of my daughter's super short nails, she will appreciate it! ❤
I’m SO happy I found this video as my nails are very short due to work. I was having trouble, just like you said, with getting the product all over my skin and then trying to get it off without really messing things up! I’m very grateful for you sharing your knowledge, thank you! ❤️🙂
Why have I never thought of using nail forms?! Thank you so much!
I didn’t know I could file the gel like that! Fantastic. And now I know why the salon would never cut my nails as short as I wanted. I’m so glad I don’t have to go back there. They always told me I looked tired, which I thought was kind of shitty.
Thank you so much! That was so helpful. I’m not a pro, but rather do my own nails. I just clipped all my nails very short. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us. Be safe, be well. 💜🙏🏻💜
This is SO HELPFUL! I have finally overcome a nail biting habit and am growing my nails.........i LOVE seeing what you've done here - never even know this was possible! I've never even had a professional manicure. Now i know what to ask for when i do treat myself. My natural nails aren't as short as your thumb nail is, however they're not that much longer. This video gives me hope that I can have pretty nails sooner than later!
Dang a steady hand 🤚 thank for the short nail video! !!!!!! So appreciated 😊
Best video ever!
I was trying to find a product that would create a barrier and this process blew my mind. I would have never thought to leave it on through each cured layer. Excited to try this!
Thanks for sharing these helpful tips 🥰
This was so helpful! I have always struggled to put gel polish on my tiny nails and this trick can be a saviour from all the extra messy cleanup. ✨💓
Great video! I appreciate the comment about the russian manicure! As a nail tech student here in the states I have learned that we (here in the states) aren’t supposed to do those, but constantly see the videos on my instagram of people doing them with a mani service or incorporating them with a pedi. I’ve had a couple clients inquire about the technique and my only response is that it is out of my scope of practice, and that they need to keep their hands moisturized. Will definitely be trying the forms for my next short nail client!
Much appreciated. I'm a guy w/short nails and have been using gel polish (blues & greens) for the past 6+ months and this has always been my main issue. Definetly need to pick up some nail forms. Also, I typically square mine off, but, will try a slightly rounded tip. Thx again.
This video has literally answered all my questions about natural nail gel polish. Thank you.
Thank you! My daughter rock climbs but likes her nails to look good, even extremely short. I've struggled capping her nails and cleaning mess up. This rocked! I love it!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
That was a great tutorial. I will be watching more. You are a really good nail tech. This from a professional 25 years experience. Thanks
Thank you! I could never grow my nails, and once they were nice and long and in good shape, i realized i hate long nails on myself :( this was just what i needed right now!
I've just had my natural nails done...its the BEST! I'm a homesteader so working with crops and animals means I cant have long nails (it's dangerous enough) but now I can actually feel more feminine with a more permanent nail covering solution!! Woohoo!!
thanks for this video Liz! I'm a beginner nail tech and have struggled with my gel Manis peeling so fast. I had no idea how to fix it and was starting to get hard on myself about how I prep! This helps so much can't wait to try it
Thank you so much for explaining this so that someone who is not a professional nail tech can still understand. I love gel polish but my natural nails are short, and therefore I always get peeling from the top of the nail. Now I understand why this has been happening. I have the best nail tech and he does such a great job, but I am going to tell him about this tutorial and then he can use this same technique on my nails. Awesome!
Baby!! This idea was a game changers for me polishing my short nails 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽 Thank You 🙏🏾
This is the most helpful video ever! I prefer having super short nails to the point where I can't see the whites of my nails. But I always get peeling as you mentioned. Thank you for this! :D
Love this tutorial, short and sweet and to the point! Thank you!!
Omg I wish I could ❤️ this video like a million times!! WOW!!! Can’t wait to try this on a friend who claims she can’t wear gel. THANK YOU!!
I can't thank you enough for all of these fundamental videos. I'm finally all caught up! I've learned so much.
Thank you for this information! I’m a diy junkie & have been doing my own gel nails since it first came out. I struggle with this issue, since my nails are short, & brittle...and I usually end up with a mess when trying to cap. I truly appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us that need the education. 🙏🏻 Have a great day!
May I ask how you file your nails and what kind of nail light you use? I’m just starting to do my own nails and need some tips! Thank you!
Excellent tutorial! This has always been an issue for me when I’ve tried to do my own gel nails.😄
Excellent teaching. I love that you explain everything so thoroughly and simply without ever feeling condescending. A+ teaching.
I think French manicure stickers the ones that help guide you to make a even French manicure on yourself might also be a good alternative for the edge of the nail. I usually keep my nails short so this video helps me alot lol, thanks.
Thank you for all the info and extra explanations. I’m learning more about nail prep etc than any other nail tutorial I’ve watched!
Excellent! That works great for me because I like my nails really short like that. It is much more easy to paint the nails and not messy. Thank you. Lots of love to you. 🌷🌸🌺
I’m new to your channel and I’m so happy to have found a way to make sure my nails last longer than a week. Thank u so much❤️
This video came up on my feed at the perfect time! Ordered an LED/UV nail dryer. Can’t wait to save money by doing my own nails. Thank you for this upload!
Wow. Thank you so much. Because of this whole pandemic I had to soak off the acrylic I had on mine. They were lifting bad. (I don't think I can wear acrylic. Have to find a hard gel tech) so after taking off my acrylic my nails were really thin, so they all broke down to nubs. I have thin nails to start with that brake easy. That is why I wear enhancements. But I miss having gel on. Was wanting to paint them, but had no clue how to do it with out getting gel all over my skin. Thank you so much.
This was very helpful, thank you. I like my nails very short and always red. Fantastic tutorial for someone like me.
GIRL THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!i have super short nails and trying to grew them
Out stop bitting them!!!(PRAISE BE ) bought all the tools etc!!i will watch all your videos and become a pro!!after that I will comment again my progress!!hahaha thank you 😍😍😍😍
Thank U Thank U Thank U!!! What a fantastic idea of using nail forms.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm growing my nails from scratch after I had to get rid of the gel nail products due to an allergic reaction. My nails were BAD!!! Nailbed were exposed etc!! Now after 3 months I can actually start wearing polish again. And I dont want to use all that builder products like before. I want to do exactly like you did in video. The form idea is brilliant!! Your tutorial show exactly what I wanted to know!!!
Omg thank you, thank you, thank you for this!!! I’ve started doing my own nails at home and your videos have been so so helpful. But it is a lot different doing gel on short, natural nails
What a brilliant professional you are!!
THANKYOU so much . You explained the process with clarity . 🎉🎉🎉👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🥰🤩🤗✅✅
What an ingenious idea!! Thanks so much for sharing this tip! You are amazing Liz!! 😊👏🏼👏🏼
This is a wonderful video ...this is amazing, what a great idea...I just did this to my short nails and my nails look so much better as I'm trying to grow them out... And it makes your nails look so real too with this idea... It's like the thinnest layer of gel to round out your nails
Brilliant! Exactly what I needed today. :) I have to keep my nails very short and just couldnt get the tips right. I got lifting no matter how careful I was, or I flooded the tip.
I think I can do it this way successfully. Thank you!
Working in healthcare I like to keep my nails short but still nice looking. Thank you for the new ideas for us short nails DIYers. Love your video and LOVE my Estemio products.
Great video thank you!!! Could you do a short one showing how you would you use the paint tape instead of the nail forms? Thanks
You are THE BEST tipster for perfecting at home gel nail manicures 💅👏
✨Thank you!✨🔥
Wow thank you so much for this video. I keep my nails really short and find it’s impossible to cap any polish as it ends up all over my skin. Definitely giving this a try, it will mean I can wear polish once again without it starting to peel off with a day or two.
Thanks love.i will try this.am going back to work this month and as a midwife I need to have short nails💕
This was a great tutorial! Thank you for simplifying the process and explaining it in a way anyone could understand... Can't wait to try!
Thank u so much for all ur video's. But especially this one! The information I learned in this video is a complete game changer for me. I gel polish my 5yr old granddaughters nails. They're a nightmare to do. They're just such tiny nubbies that it is a real struggle to paint them without them looking like I did them with my eye closed...lol This video has made all the difference in world. So again THANK U SO MUCH!!!😊
I am a DIYer and this was great. Thank you
Wow what what great idea👌
Thank you so much! What a Wonderful tip, especially the blue painters tape for frugal budgets like mine. 👍 Really appreciate it!
You have the best nail videos on here. Thank you for showing steps so clear. Thank you for sharing.
This is awesome, i hve a client with very small nail plate and short nails and didn’t know anymore how to make her manicure to stay for longer then a week!! she always gets chips at the free edge bcse i can’t cap properly..such a nightmare, thank you for your video x
heck yes. i've got short nails and this is so good.
That was a great a video.. I haven't been wearing polish because my nail were so short. Thanks for the tips on how to polish short nails with gels. It makes sense and the tip about painters tape...who doesn't have that stashed someplace in your house. Thanks for sharing.
I didn't know you could file gels on natural nails without damaging the colour if you use a top coat! Revolutionary :)
Thank you so much for this video! My nails are fairly short and I always have trouble capping my free edges without getting polish on my skin. I didn't have any forms handy, so I used the blue painter's tape and it worked fine. I have ordered some forms so I can encapsulate the free edges a bit more, like you showed in the video, as my nails are naturally soft. I'm using the Gelish Foundation Flex to help protect and grow my nails a little longer. Thanks again - I'm not a nail tech, but like to do my own nails and your channel is so helpful. 👋
Ok !! very informative !! I've done my first gel nail application tuesday. I'm growing my nails and have never done that before or gone in a nail salon.I'm impressed at how bold you go with applying the gel polish. You are not afraid to put a thick layer. I went a bit shy with a very soft pink color.I'm definitely going to try the way you do
Perfect. Frequent handwashing at work makes it difficult to maintain strong nails. Thanks for a great tip on how to protect nails with gel while they (hopefully) grow.
Hands Down BEST VIDEO ever for gals. Thank you. I'm a new subscriber and happy to have come across your channel. 💅
Honestly, best trick!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Best teacher in the nail biz!
Super nails and thanks for the tips
Amazing I’ve never heard of this technique for applying gel polish on short nails. Thank you for explaining why the gel polish chips, was a very useful video ☺️
Thank you so much for this video as I diy my nails all the time and I always had this problem of the gel polish lifting right at the edge!!! You are amazing ❤️
Bingeing your videos. You’re the best! Thanks for doing what you do and for sharing with all of us ❤
Love this video! Thanks for all the information.
Great video!!! I. Struggled with my free edge until I saw your video. Thank you for thoroughly explaining this process. 💝
LOVE this video - thank you for great tips (for gardener's like me who have to keep my nails short)
This was such a useful video. Thank you and God bless you. Have a great weekend!
What a game changer for me, thanks so much!
I always wondered how I could make my grow out so much neater, and still cap the free edge while my nails grow out!
Love your work and your channel!
New subscriber here!
👍🏻🙏❤️ from Maryland!😊
Thank you sooo much for doing this!!! I thought so many times about taping the skin on the end of my short nails but then thought I must be crazy...
This is so informative. Dang-thank you!
Oh man! Kudos to you girl! You NAILED IT 😉
I was thinking about this just earlier. My nails are always short from breaking off. Thank you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!💚👍🏾 I am a beginner of gel polish on my short nails and I never like MY end results plus it never last more than a few days before it peels.😤 So I am excited to try again with your technique. 🗣️You're 💯awesome!!!!
I like that having nails that you can do stuff with are considered “really short” 😂
Me too!! Or they're called 'Sporty Length.'. Ok... They're just more functional. I work with my hands for a living, so I can't have nine inch nails. Have you ever tried picking up small objects with them? Even opening a door without catching on something---ow oww ow. They make me a butterfingers, and they really should be classified as weapons. Hiyah. Lol. I I can't maneuver with them in any case. Can anyone, or is that the point? I give pple credit for wearing them! Sorry Sporty Spice. 😂
Sis...they r
But they are short. Where is the lie
Do you want us to lie? They are really short 🙄
Omg this was probably the absolute best nail vid I’ve ever watched! Best when nothing’s opened and wanting to use gel polish. And just so insanely informative. Ty! 💕
Love those ombre colors, watching that one next!
This is so clever! Thank you 😊
Glad you like it!
omgggg the tape tip is so helpful!!! I need to keep my nails short and the gel sets I do myself are ALWAYS lifting and trying to peel off, I'm going to try this next time! Thank you!
Wonderful video thanks so much was very helpful for me
Wow!! So much helpful and thoughtful information! Thank you!
As a professional nail tech this will help me alot in my salon ... thank you
Yay! FINALLY a video for the natural girls lol thank you! Totally needed this thank you and new subbie xxo
Thank you for giving us such a detailed video on how to apply nail polish to short nails. I am a professional pianist/teacher and I can’t play the piano if I have long nails so this was very helpful.
You are so welcome!
Liz, I'm so happy you did this video, the tape is a great quicky idea to extend enough. I was wondering, since I'm a little 'Nail Art Challenged' if you could do a few art starter videos when ya have time and if you could show a newbie what the gelplay is all about and how it holds rhinestones on. I appreciate you!!
Thank you this is such a great video. Informative and easy to learn. I’ve got nail envy looking at yours 🙄😂😂. Bought lots of stuff so watching your videos to hopefully be able to do something with mine that doesn’t look ridiculous lol. ❤️😊
Fantastic tutorial!! Thanks so much!! I have super teeny tiny short damaged nails due to psoriasis so watching this has helped me understand what I need to do 🤗🤗👏👏
Thank you❤❤❤
I am from Indonesia
Thank you so much for this video!! I normally have my nails done with extensions but recently I had to wear them short and probably even should avoid any product overall. Reason being is that I noticed my nails were lifting from the nail bed and I got scared. Do you have any tips on this? Given the current situation I can't go to a doctor if needed so I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help my nails grow back normal. I don't even know what causes the lifting but if you or anyone else seeing this comment has any information or advice I'd be very grateful! 🙏 Thank you for your content!
Lovely tutorial! I have paper thin nails and I was able to grow them with a rubber base coat. That thing is hard like rock. I didn't have any forms while growing them out so I just used tape under my nail
Thank you so much this was very helpful. I help my fiancee with her manicure and we just started to use gel nail polish and sometimes she has short nails and we always had the issue of not getting covered on the ends. Thank you so so much.
