Love your channel my friend. I too have been playing with a stock 318 in a 3750lb race weight (me being 200 of that lol) car, my ‘71 challenger convertible. I threw on an intake and carb from 79 lil red, a comp xe 256(212/218 @ 50, 447 455 lift) and some 323s with dual 2” (maybe too small but didn’t want to spend the extra to re do the entire system, just put new 2” single on a year prior to engine work wups oh well). Trap speed is 67mph at 4100 feet so like 70 at sea level I get with calculations. Love these little engines. Love your channel. Love your very entertaining and informative videos! Keep up the great work my friend! Love watching them from up here in bc Canada.

@@318willrun 3700lbs correct, 15.72 estimated ET= 211 flywheel HP guesstimate. So, the LA 318, with cast 302 heads smogger, with headers and 4bbl, regular electronic dizzy, this seems to have picked up 66 HP, not bad for a few bolt on..
Ya did good ...I got excited when you were only gonna run 1/8 mile. I thought the gear and torque would get ya there. I guess the valve springs are 100 years old I over reached a bit..lol!
for that truck i would buy cheapest good air filter that will give you 4 inches height ,maybe stack 2 of them. Then you can rule out fresh air. i ran a 1974 cuda at 3600#s with 2 bbl, shift kit open headers ,3.91 gears 15.79 is all i recall for et. no engine upgrades, i just removed the factory air cleaner. the 318 is corked up by factory exhaust manifold and single exhaust
Whatcha think about a 5.9 magnum engine swap? I like my old 85 318 it's pretty snappy . Also have a 88 w150 360 I know it hits 0-60 in 8 seconds . Pretty much stock .
I like your truck. I'm not a drag racer. I do like for my drivers to run good though. I'm working on my RC 4x4 poser right now....I hope it willrun...lol. Long hours of climbing in, out, and under that thing better pay off or I'm junking it...lol. I'm doing an engine bay rebuild. Unfortunately, my garage is full, so I couldn't pull the engine on the street....it ran when I took it apart. If it was a small appliance, and I was just curious, the parts would've been in the garbage by now...lol.
Are you leaving it in drive? What RPM does it shift out of 1st at? My 85 with a hemi shifts out of 1st at 4000rpm lol. Sounded like yours might shift early too. Time for a governor kit or a ratchet shifter so I can rev it out in first.
Yeah, anything in the 15's for a low buck 318 in a truck is really good. My guess was somewhere in the 17's, which I was pretty confident about. Good job!

1/8 tracks suck!! What's the point? Where I live in NE Ohio all we ever had was and is 1/4 mile! You should be able to use all your forward gears (not overdrive). Oh well?
Thanks for watching! I hear ya, and I was disappointed. Two cars I took earlier in the year we were racing 1/4 mile. I guess Friday nights they race 1/4 mile but I'm at work. Maybe they'll go back to the 1/4 once the track team goes to the regionals....
@@318willrun , back in the 70's we would go up on the interstate with about 12-20 cars. The first two would race and the guys behind them would slow down and stop all the cars on the freeway for about 45 seconds!😂😂😂 We were bad! Our tracks were about 45-50 miles away. Summit Raceway Park is one of them. Dragway 42 had 4 lanes in the 60's and 70's! Pro side and amateur side. They eventually closed the amateur side down. It narrowed down to one lane at the top end forcing one guy to shut down that was losing! Kinda harry at times! If you car ran quicker than 12.00 you had to run the pro side.😀
@@johnwilburn , I'm 69 years old so I haven't raced in about 15 years. I go to the Nationals at Summit Raceway for the big events every 5-8 years but I just can't see racing 1/8 mile. I've probably ran a 1,000 plus times down the quarter. Some days we'd get 6- 10 time trials! I raced the whole 70's and a few times since with my stock 340 Demon. I raced Super Stock Eliminator back in the 70's with a 71 Duster 340 HSA. 11:50's @ 122mph! That was a blast so anything less would be boring. Going 98-100 mph in my stock 340 Demon is fun but not worth the effort for 1/8 mile. I can smoke my tires in first and second gear on my street for just as much fun!😂

I manually shift it. The 318 was shifted at 5k, the 360 in it's outing was shifted at 5600 rpms
