I'm glad that anbernic really listen to their customer. But since the RG351P rumor is in the air, i think i will wait patiently for a more powerful device As always, good job on the review Taki!
The amount of volume is crucial for playing on the subway. I have the original rg350 and pretty loud headphones and when I use my 2ds, I can hardly hear it on the subway due to the train noise. I think I will have to turn it up full or 90% with the rg350. So if I bought the 351p, which I was thinking of getting, it would be a big problem. Now I could use an old 2alkman eq, but it would have to go in my pocket with the extra wire which is clumsy and inconvenient. The only alternative would be noise cancelling headphones which are too fat to fit under a hood when its cold and even if they fit would leave a huge gap that would scoop all the cold air in, so i hope the new handhelds have sufficient volume and that you will let us know about this again in the future. Also I have excellent hearing and a person who doesn't would have an even harder time hearing the audio on a train.
All these seem to be teenagers and 20 year olds are stating what they want to happen with Anbernic. This is a retro device. The more you talk about wanting bigger processors and more support for N64, blah blah blah, let's us vets know that you are just complaining for nothing. This device is great. No, it is not for beginners. You need to know a little about emulation to appreciate it. Taki seems to understand this somewhat, so listen to him somewhat, but also use caution when he indicates his "likes" and "dislikes". He does not speak for you. Buy what is best for you.
My OG RG350 had a speaker and the L1 button fail within a few weeks of me owning it... Anbernic have refused to sell me the parts I need to carry out the repairs because in didn't buy the unit directly from them and the retailer I purchased from have just been ignoring all the emails I've sent them to try and get the issues sorted... Needless to say I won't be buying another Anbernic device any time soon :/
@@TakiUdon I'm trying to avoid using the retailers name despite how annoyed I am. The offer of help is greatly appreciated but I've put the faulty unit up on ebay now and built myself an Odroid Go Advance B.E as I really didn't wanna waste any more time/stress on the faulty RG350 unit.
Agreed 100%. I’d love a bigger screen too. Lots of us who enjoy retro were actually around when this stuff came out. But our eyes haven’t aged quite the same. ;)
The screen color on the OG one is really blueish, which means color temperature is really cold, and the new one is even colder, I think I’ll stick to my RK2020. But, great video as always!
Thanks for the video! How does the screen match up vs the 350m screen? And how much does the 350p weight? That better screen would be the one reason I might get the metal version, as I like a lighter handheld; though I am primarily interested in this for GBA, SNES, and below.
Is there any portable console that support multiplayer functionality for the color, advance, and sp? Or am I just going to have to buy a custom advance. I see all these cool custom build portable systems but never see any of them showcasing multiplayer abilities. Could it be that it's to difficult to implement or just nobody does it. Great video and thanks for showcasing the product!
Im currently considering purchasing either this updated version of RG350 or an Odroid go advance. As I understand, the Odroid does much better in terms of software (emulating N64 and Dreamcast pretty well), but the RG350 in general has a better build and much better ergonomics (sound control, hdmi, better analogs, etc.). Would you agree with this assessment? Also I do like the more user friendly menu of Odroid. Can you advice if RG350 manages to play PS1, N64 and/or Dreamcast on a decent level? Thanks in advance!
I have to ask: how does this look when blown up on an HDTV? Is it possible to pair other controllers with it (for example, the sn30 or the dualshock 4)?
In theory, you could plug a USB controller. There are some resources for that, but not many. There are also resources showing HDMI out. But I've never seen a video with both. If someone can confirm it is working, which it should, in theory, I would buy this right now to replace my New PocketGo v2!
Soapbox91 if you are tech savvy, someone on Reddit posted how they use HDMI plus a Raspberry Pi Zero W to use their PS4 or Xbox one controllers via Bluetooth. This is sick! Here: www.reddit.com/r/RG350/comments/ha0rnj/rg350_with_bluetooth_ps4_or_xbox_one_controller/
@@jipiboily That's amazing. So basically, it does work with controllers and it can be blown up on an HDMI TV just fine. Now if they only made a model that had a larger screen (comparable to the size of the New 3DS screens) then I would buy this without a second thought.
First thing I noticed is that the Anbernic logo on the screen bezel is a nice subdued gray instead of the jarring orange color from the original 350. That by itself justifies the existence of this product, IMHO.
🤔 Hmm not bad but does it play Dreamcast and N64, without no lagging or frame rate issues. If that's the case might as well wait for the RG351 handheld device.
But why MicroSD? Inconveniently tiny to handle, awkward to use to transfer to and from a computer etc. Full size SD would be much better. Ideally SD for their OS, and for games a CF slot for a cartridge style experience, since CF cards are big enough for game art, logos, etc.
@@IrishCarney It's a handheld, full size SD slots are much bigger and would mean more space taken up on the board. In devices like this the cards aren't taken out often (especially slot 1 which is for the OS) and are just used as convenient and cheap storage. CF cards are stupidly expensive (twice as much per gb), are huge and also have much slower data transfer speeds so are a no go for handhelds.
@@MegaTerryNutkins Point and shoot cameras use full size SD cards. My ancient pre-iPhone PocketPC phone used a full sized SD card. With miniaturization constantly making it possible to do more in less space there's less excuse than ever to say there's no room for a full size SD card. As for CF cards, professional photographers use them so they can't be all that slow. And the "huge" size is a feature not a bug in my proposal since the size is comparable to a Game Boy cartridge - the point is to replicate the physical media experience, like the SD card games sold for the GP2X.
@@IrishCarney Open up one of these and check the board, I have (as well as countless other open handhelds) if you don't believe me RE space restrictions. You said it yourself - "With miniaturization constantly making it possible to do more in less space" - so why use a full size SD card when there is no need? As I said these aren't cartridge based handhelds, the card stores an entire game collection and you never swap them out so them not being the size of a GB cart from 1989 isn't an issue. Also note how actual game cartridges have got smaller as time has moved on? Notice a theme? Requesting CF cards to be used in gaming handhelds is laughable, it isn't 1995 any more. You can also check the read/write speeds of these to check how slow they are if you don't believe me. There have been handhelds in constant production which replicate the feeling of swapping out physical cartridges, this isn't one of them.
Hi Taki, one question, the RG350P that you have is black, the ones sold in the link in the description is either black+orange, or transparent black. Are they going to the have a all black one in the future, like the one you shown in this video; or do you have a special demo black version?
Thank you so much Taki once again you've done it your videos are incredible and the advice is Wells down and I'm very relatable to how you game and the things that are concerns to you thank you thank you keep up the amazing work
Hey what does present Taki think about 350p vs 351p? I wanna play perfect emulation snes and gba and maybe some ps1 rpgs. Ps1 performance is less important to me That really fancy arm device you posted about recently would be perfect but the bad dpad is a deal breaker. Snes needs excellent dpad
Do the thumb grips stay on the joysticks better on this model? Both of the joysticks on mine are naked but it suits my purposes as a beater handheld. Despite the sleek new sticks I’d wanna get the case with it this next time around just so there’s less wear and tear. Also I noticed on the original that use of the joysticks in non analog games usually messes with the emulation and causes drift that can be corrected by resetting the 350.
They just kinda came off pulling it out of my pocket. The sticks are still there and I was able to put one grip back on because I found it. I haven’t really used them in psx though and feel no need to use them in other emulators
It’s generally a solid device, I know some people that can’t work it just didn’t format their sd card or something because I put it through the ringer to see how it holds up to reviews
Have any idea how bright the LED is on the new transparent plastic 350p? Any less than the prior 350? I like an opaque plastic color, but I loathe that orange trim.
It's virtually identical to the original if you have that. If the light is too bright (I think it's actually muted), you can color it with black marker.
does the RG350P's 3.5" audio jack serve as both audio AND video? I'd like to use it on the monitor of my 2007 Chevy Avalanche the same way I do my Pi3b+ in its nespi case+ via 3.5" to composite, ty. =)
It seems pretty good that Anbernic is willing to listen to customer feedback and make improvements accordingly as they go to new production runs. It seems to me that at this point thehave the basic layout pretty much perfected. Personally I would like to see a larger and more powerful version come out in the future to allow for a larger screeen size (and the size of my hands) as well as the ability to emulate more powerful systems such as PS2 and PS3. Also stereo sound would be a big improvement although I can see more people who care about that just plugging in some headphones.
My dream retro handheld is "this hardware n layout + swappable OS like retro arena, emuelec etc + usb gamepad support to play multi-player on tv". Of course slightly beefed up specs are always welcome as long as thermals stay low.
I am really interested on buying this model, but the fact that it uses Joycon sticks really worries me. Would drifting be a problem on the RG350 as it is on the Switch?
So.. why the screen downgrade? I have an RG350M, with the 640x480 screen; can the components be swapped straight across into this new model? I want a smoke console in the identical RG350M button format and specs.
I don't think the panel is any different than the original. They just laminated the glass. i.e They stuck the glass to the panel, which lets a smidge more light through. The RG350m has a markedly better screen, but as you surmise it takes a lot more power.
i wanna buy this device but im completely noob to this kind of stuff.. can i play games right out the box or do i have to do some stuff on pc first like putting in games and stuff before i can use it? help a brother out😇
Nice overvew. I think this upgrade should have come out at the same time as the 350M though. The lower res screen is a bit disappointing but it is nice to have anbernic quality on a cheaper device and cant really complain about a fully laminated IPS. I think though at this stage everyone is more excited about the prospect of the RG351. My next device will certainly be RK3326 based as the J4770 has really had its time now. I think even on a software side, no matter what anbernic or the other upcoming RK3326 devices chose to use, batocera/ubuntu/emuelec etc it will be a step up in OS fluidity and intuitiveness over open digux based stuff, i'm also looking froward to have a consistent control scheme to exit all emulators too, which is super annoying not having on open dingux.
Does anyone knows if you can use HDMI out AND a USB controller, at the same time? It would be even more instance if it could be done with a USB Bluetooth adapter, but just USB would already be great.
For a sequel that completely abandoned the formula of the first game I think this was an amazing game. 1 and 2 are both great games and I love how the two play-styles cover both fast and slow game-play while both still being fun
WOW That is awesome, I love it!!! This is my favorite one, thank you!!! I hope, if they ever make more devices, that they use this design as the base. They have perfected a lot of things... would be a shame to lose any of these features and details. For now I will happily buy this one :D
About time. All the improvement mentioned justified for me to replace my RG350. I'll wait for it to be available in my county marketplace with a bit lower price and I'll grab it without hesitation.
Im in the middle of getting this or cheap android phone for emulating ps1 game, which one is better? Did rg 350 can run other emulator like retro arch / duck station? Thanks in advance
Taki, is there any reason to get a rg350p or original over a playgo if you don't plan to ever need a right joystick? Seeing how the playgo is much cheaper and has an easily replaceable battery it seems like the smarter choice right? I'm new to the emulation handheld scene so sorry if it's a silly question. I also don't mind about community support as I will mostly likely never update the device outside of getting the roms I want the most.
@@TakiUdon what's the main use for HDMI? Holding the system as a controller and being able to see it on the big screen? Or can you plug a controller into the system or use Bluetooth controllers at all?
I have the PocketGo v2 and while I prefer the look of it over the RG350, if I had to choose again, I would get an RG350. Quality is just better, the PG v2 analog is terrible, and it makes a high pitched noise whenever it is on.
I have both and I find I'm reaching for the original to play because most of the older games I play relate to the use of the dpad which I prefer up front rather than behind the joystick.
Is there any improvements to the CPU, GPU, amount of memory and can you now use the HDMI port? If not then I will stick with my old one because its not worth upgrading.
Great review as always Taki. Since I have original RG350 and PGV2 , I don't need to invest again. But if I was entering the scene I would probably buy it right away since it is perfect. I just wait Anbernic and Bittboy in 2021 to build us a better product than RK2020 for playing Dreamcast and it will be a blast.
@@shaunlulz It isn't cheap though, you can pick up the 1st gen Win for much less now (paid £190 for mine with a 128gb USB drive a couple of years ago) and that can run a lot of Gamecube games - Wind Waker and Twilight Princess both run full speed. It also runs Fallout 3/NV and Skyrim etc. If you just need up to N64 and Dreamcast then the GPD XD is a brilliant handheld, I've had the 1st gen one for 4 years now and it's still working as it did new with an 8-10hr battery life. The Powkiddy X18 is a good alternative for a lower price than the current XD+, there's a few other Android handhelds around too. Also check out the Win Max if you would like a something that's also a pretty powerful small laptop.
Thanks for the great informative video! My questions is whether this new device's maximum volume is the same as the original (non-metal) RG 350's volume? Or is it louder or softer? One problem that I had with the original RG 350 is that the maximum volume sounds a bit low, and I was hoping that the new RG 350P can get louder than the RG 350
@@TakiUdon Sorry, I must have missed this piece of information from the video. That's kind of unfortunate, I think the original's max volume is a bit low
When you reviewed the 350m, you mentioned and showed that the new ips screen wasn't white balanced, and had a darker tint to it compared to the 350. Is this still an issue?

I notice you didn’t mention the lower resolution compared to the RG350M. I just got my 350M and then this:(
I didn't explicitly, but I did put this side-by-side the original device and list out the only things different.
i picked one up for 60 dollars shipped im so happy for my purchase
My OG RG350 had a speaker and the L1 button fail within a few weeks of me owning it...
Anbernic have refused to sell me the parts I need to carry out the repairs because in didn't buy the unit directly from them and the retailer I purchased from have just been ignoring all the emails I've sent them to try and get the issues sorted...
Needless to say I won't be buying another Anbernic device any time soon :/
Where did you buy it from? I could try and help you, those two components would be less than a dollar.
I wish they released this with a 5inch display, then they would take my money. My eyes are not the same with all the mobile gaming.
Hey Taki,
Is AliExpress good in shipping ?
Is there any portable console that support multiplayer functionality for the color, advance, and sp? Or am I just going to have to buy a custom advance. I see all these cool custom build portable systems but never see any of them showcasing multiplayer abilities. Could it be that it's to difficult to implement or just nobody does it. Great video and thanks for showcasing the product!
Amazing! Buying one right away
Nice video, really enjoyed it!
Thank you very much!
@@TakiUdon No problem! Keep up the great content!
Nice man thanks for the follow-up on product lines
No problem 👍
@@jipiboily I would also love to see a proof-of-concept for this. I would buy this thing in a heartbeat if that were the case.
Hi! What are those games featured in this video?
Waiting on mine. I'm hyped!
Do you feel a difference in the screen downgrade from the 350m? Or impossible to the naked eye for the emu games?
🤔 Hmm not bad but does it play Dreamcast and N64, without no lagging or frame rate issues. If that's the case might as well wait for the RG351 handheld device.
Neat. Battery life?
Same as the original ~6 hours.
Good reviews from the beginning.
Are they still not doing any QA/QC at the factory resulting in cold solder joints and screens that fail after a week or two?
Taki, you mentioned that youd take the 350p over the standard 350. Where do you put the 350m in the mix? Do I smell a video in the future?
Great news that the screen is fully laminated now! How does it compare with the M, since that version has double the screen resolution?
Better battery life
What Dragonball game is that at about 3:50 mins?
Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure
@@TakiUdon Thank you! It looks fun!
Great review, than you very much ! However, you did not mention the HDMI output. Is it working ? Or should we wait for an update like the 350m ?
Should I buy one....or wait? Or should I get the RG 350M for the better screen. It's going to be my first retro handheld. Please help me decide.
Really wish they'd make it with an easy access battery door, the dual external Micro SD slots is a welcome addition.
I don't think they will. I built this custom like I did with my rg350.
@@TakiUdon I see, thanks for the info. It does look better in all black. I like it more haha. Thanks
What's the difference from the 350m besides metal? Which is better? Retroid pocket or this?
Thank you so much Taki once again you've done it your videos are incredible and the advice is Wells down and I'm very relatable to how you game and the things that are concerns to you thank you thank you keep up the amazing work
How does it handle SNES hiRes mode with that resolution screen? Can you try Secret of Mana 2 to see if text readable
Hey what does present Taki think about 350p vs 351p? I wanna play perfect emulation snes and gba and maybe some ps1 rpgs. Ps1 performance is less important to me
That really fancy arm device you posted about recently would be perfect but the bad dpad is a deal breaker. Snes needs excellent dpad
What was that dragon ball game he was playing at one point in the video??? I want to add it to my game library!
You shouldn't be able to take those tops off unless you rip them out.
They just kinda came off pulling it out of my pocket. The sticks are still there and I was able to put one grip back on because I found it. I haven’t really used them in psx though and feel no need to use them in other emulators
@@0730bcorm I know what you mean because I removed mine to make them lower
It’s generally a solid device, I know some people that can’t work it just didn’t format their sd card or something because I put it through the ringer to see how it holds up to reviews
looking real good yo just supported u
Have any idea how bright the LED is on the new transparent plastic 350p? Any less than the prior 350? I like an opaque plastic color, but I loathe that orange trim.
It's virtually identical to the original if you have that. If the light is too bright (I think it's actually muted), you can color it with black marker.
@@TakiUdon Thanks, Taki!
What's that car game at 6:02? Looks a bit like Rocket League without the ball. 😂😂
Twisted Metal 4
Great update! Have ya thought about doing a look at the last revision to the Pocket Go V2, with the Reset button?
There's a long story about why I didn't cover that device.
Taki Udon sorry if I’m out of the loop. Thanks again for always releasing awesome reviews!
So I'm interested in buying one of these, but I'm also pretty new to these devices. Is it simple to import new games from my PC onto the device?
I'm extremely disappointed. I've been debating on the RG350 for a few months. I finally ordered one last Thursday then they announced the RG350p
does the RG350P's 3.5" audio jack serve as both audio AND video? I'd like to use it on the monitor of my 2007 Chevy Avalanche the same way I do my Pi3b+ in its nespi case+ via 3.5" to composite, ty. =)
Can we get Sakura Modding to stock the black rubber grips from the new 350P for use on black 350m and 280m?
It seems pretty good that Anbernic is willing to listen to customer feedback and make improvements accordingly as they go to new production runs. It seems to me that at this point thehave the basic layout pretty much perfected. Personally I would like to see a larger and more powerful version come out in the future to allow for a larger screeen size (and the size of my hands) as well as the ability to emulate more powerful systems such as PS2 and PS3. Also stereo sound would be a big improvement although I can see more people who care about that just plugging in some headphones.
Would you recommend this over a phone with a controller like in your DIY build? Great look at the device btw!
If you only want to play the retro systems that run well on this, it's hard to beat this aspect ratio
My dream retro handheld is "this hardware n layout + swappable OS like retro arena, emuelec etc + usb gamepad support to play multi-player on tv".
Of course slightly beefed up specs are always welcome as long as thermals stay low.
It seems like all of these devices are set on a 3.5 inch screen as standard. Are we ever going to see 5 inch versions of these?
Not with this same CPU.
@@TakiUdon But they are looking to make something bigger? I feel 3.5 inches is just too small to properly enjoy PS1 RPGs
I am really interested on buying this model, but the fact that it uses Joycon sticks really worries me. Would drifting be a problem on the RG350 as it is on the Switch?
Yes.
Where can i follow them for new devices released? Link to official website?
What about input lag? How does it compare to... say a snes in a CRT?
Are you able to use a flash drive to copy or transfer files rather than the sd card?
Does this have more glare? It seems to have more than previous rg350 videos. Is that just a change in lighting setup or a problem with the new screen?
It's from my new studio vs when I originally made rg350 videos
What is the resolution of the laminated IPS display pleezzz? =)
Does the sound crackle or pop like on the M? Snes sound seems to crackle on Rogue, but I can't imagine it's because it's too slow.
I've never used rogue because it's not official
So.. why the screen downgrade? I have an RG350M, with the 640x480 screen; can the components be swapped straight across into this new model? I want a smoke console in the identical RG350M button format and specs.
Price, surely
They could, but you'd have to use 350m firmware and there could be issues.
@@TakiUdon A shell swap would cause firmware issues?
Does Anbernic have an official site? Your link is only for aliexpress.
Sorry, newb here. What is a JZ4770 and why do people want a successor?
With a better screen the battery life is lower, right? How long we can play with RG350P before the battery drain out?
I don't think the panel is any different than the original. They just laminated the glass. i.e They stuck the glass to the panel, which lets a smidge more light through. The RG350m has a markedly better screen, but as you surmise it takes a lot more power.
If I wanted to play FFT: War of Lions (PSP), do you think that'd be doable? Or maybe the android version?
i wanna buy this device but im completely noob to this kind of stuff.. can i play games right out the box or do i have to do some stuff on pc first like putting in games and stuff before i can use it? help a brother out😇
Nice overvew.
06:11 when I noticed Dino crysis 2 I Instantly wanted to GET this device)
Kill them all!
For a sequel that completely abandoned the formula of the first game I think this was an amazing game. 1 and 2 are both great games and I love how the two play-styles cover both fast and slow game-play while both still being fun
@@TakiUdon .
man me too
How can I get this with all the Retro games installed? - All the old EA Madden Football, Hockey and Basketball Games??
WOW That is awesome, I love it!!!
This is my favorite one, thank you!!!
I hope, if they ever make more devices, that they use this design as the base. They have perfected a lot of things... would be a shame to lose any of these features and details.
For now I will happily buy this one :D
Nice upgrade👍 The dpad is in a better position too
Could you do an overview of the new power switch daemon and if it runs on the 350p? Thanks!

You have this device?!
@@TakiUdon I have the original RG350 and the RG 350 M

I would like to know if this device can run the following games: tekken 3,panzer front, panzer front ausf b. thank you.
Great review as always Taki. Since I have original RG350 and PGV2 , I don't need to invest again. But if I was entering the scene I would probably buy it right away since it is perfect.
It's 70% of the original device

Taki Udon when will they Release the RG350P ?
Was about to order, but they used the older lcd. Why tho?
