An absolute musical gem! By the way, the short-cropped blonde, one of the backing singers, is Clare Torry. Yes, the Clare Torry who sang the fantastic The Great Gig in the Sky in 1973 and on the album The Dark Side of the Moon.
Love me some Candy, she’s a monster, but original saxophonist Dave (or is it Dick? Can never remember ) Parry playing this out while holding and swapping 2 sax’s is an unreal experience. Sat front row center for “Pulse” in 94 and he literally blew us away. If you pull up “Shine On” live from “Pulse” you’ll see what I mean. That was my 5th and last time to catch them live. Unforgettable. Regards 🤘😎
@@ronaldelliott4373 I know, what you mean! I also like the way, Dick Parry used two saxes (sp?) in live performances. But I had a little crush on Candy Dulfer ("Lily Was Here"), she was hot and played her instrument very well. And I mean that in a "clean" way... ;-)

Shine on You crazy Diamond, a song written about and dedicated to founder member Syd Barrett. Syd departed from the band in 1968 after becoming mentally ill due to his excessive drug use. His mental health deteriorated to the point that it was affecting his ability to integrate with the other band members and create and perform as a musician. He was replaced by his former school friend David Gilmour who would previously on occasion be brought in as second guitar. Reaction ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Selection ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Apparently a guy wondered into Abbey Road studio at the time of recording this song and only after some minutes did the band realize it was Sid Barrett. He'd become bloated and had shaved his head
I've read that a married couple of German friends Syd stayed with for a while were feeding him LSD in his morning tea without telling him for an extended period of time - and that contributed HEAVILY to his mental deterioration. Though he may have had bipolar-type issues prior. TRAGIC story of an extremely talented man
Making a legendary cameo, is one of the worlds greatest saxophonists, the awesome Candy Dulfer. A huge fan of hers since seeing her first at this very concert, she truly complemented the greatness of Pink Floyd here at Knebworth.
Bless you! I knew that I Knew who she was but the name would not come to me! Thanks so much! I also like what they call smooth jazz so I knew her sound, Thanks again!
Here is a little secret, Millie...thank you for this authentic reaction, by the way. Pink Floyd/David Gilmour always have put on a fantastic live performance, wherever they are. Each live performance is unique in its own right, there are no rules other than enjoyment of the piece of music written....compassion which is unique in its own right through the musical masterpiece set forth. This is why you need to explore Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, even Roger Waters, independently. The sound of Floyd transcends all boundaries. I'm not going to pick one live performance/song for you to check out next because whatever you decide will be fantastic, we promise. The catalog is vast, so prepare yourself for a musical journey of a lifetime....enjoy the ride. Thank you for exploring the best side of music with Pink Floyd!!!!
I can't believe that this is the first time you've seen a live performance by PF. Check out anything from the Pulse tour (there's 2 1/2 hours to choose from) as there isn't a bad song in it, but for me the highlights are Comfortably Numb, The Great Gig In The Sky, One of These Days, Keep Talking, High Hopes and Run Like Hell (the finale)
David is a wizard . He can take you to so many amazing places just with his masterful playing. You only get one like him in a lifetime. Glad I got to be alive in his time. Hats off to the Sax player as well. Awesome.
listened to entire album all weekend on a Pioneer system with huge speakers...in a 8'x8' living room....whatever year it came out...ended with some Moody Blues...I came out very mellow.
I was at a show from that era. May, 1988, momentary lapse of reason. Arrowhead Stadium. This was their opener. Sky still brilliant pink and orange from the sunset. This video brings me right back to that day. SYD (S)hine on (Y)ou crazy (D)iamond. Unbelievable concert.
PF are able to start with a really slow, minimal music and then build it into something great. This live version is trimmed down from the songs on _"Wish You Were Here"._ On the studio album _"Shine On You Crazy Diamond"_ is split into two songs. The first one opens the album and is over 13 minutes and the second closes the album and is over 12 minutes.
This is another good song by Pink and David performs his magic again.......!!!!!!! It gets better.....!!!! This is one of their songs that set the bar for the ones that followed so to speak!!!!! Pink shall live forever and forever............. I SO enjoy how much you like this band! Take care my dear!!!!!!
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (which is on the Wish You Were Here album), is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, it's actually split into several parts, did you listen to the version: - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V). I suggest you also listen to this: - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX). Shine On You Crazy Diamond is dedicated to Syd Barret, a former member and founder of Pink Floyd, who left the group in 1968 due to mental health problems, also caused by the excessive use of drugs. SYD = - Shine On - You Crazy - Diamonds
They always put on a good show. I saw them back in the early 80s on the Wall tour . Giant puppets, scenes projected on a 60 ft wall that was built as the show progressed. And in the finale brought it all tumbling down.
Millie, Young lady prepare yourself for a musical experience. Pink is one of the BEST rock bands EVER!!! They are so darn good. So relaxed and smooth!!! And powerful.. And they have a light show that is second to none...... You'll see!!!!! And hear!!! David is a great guitarist, gentle and smooth. His playing is wonderful...... It speaks for itself... As is the entire band's...... I think you will LOVE it!!!!!!! Well what did you think and feel??? AND they produced one of the best albums ever --- The Dark Side of the Moon! And they have great hair... And lots of changes musically! Your smile answers my question..... Thank you girl......
Millie, you _HAVE_ to do "Run Like Hell" from the Delicate Sound of Thunder concert (2019 remix) Visuals are amazing, as well as the music, especially David's intro with the guitar (and laser light show).
It's good to see a young woman into Pink Floyd we have loved them for years and long may They continue, you have some talent yourself your intro was quite good, thanks for your reaction, 🌹
I guess this was the best live performance of Shine On You Crazy Diamond ever! Candy Dulfer did a perfect job playing the solo, It's a rare emotional expression with an Instrument like sax. I guess that she thought: "I'm playing with the creators of The Dark Side of the Moon, so I should play as If was the last time In my life!".
I believe that this was the performance in front of St. Mark's Square in Venice. Funny thing about this show was that the Venetian boats protested because they were not allowed to travel near the performance area and the band was performing on this massive barge.
You have to listen too the hole album Wish You Where Here in one piece. Because it is a concept album. But, of course, this one here is a great version from the song.
Hi Millie! A shine on your face is magical! You wear on the energy of the youth; thank you for showing it to us. I'm so glad you like my favorite bands - although there are so many years between us. If you have never listened to them - please try the song Thunderstruck from the band AC/DC. There is one great live version from 2009.
I was at that show, it was so windy they had to take down their iconic round screen, at least it had stopped raining by the time PF came on. Other acts included Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Genesis, Clapton, Mark Knopfler and Elton John. It was quite a line up.

Millie, you have fantastic music appreciation. Sadly a lot of these rock legends are already dead, or will be soon, as we are all heading that way. I have not heard /seen you do any Prince music, which is so great. I know you will love it.

This song was written about Syd Barrett, good friend and one of the founding members of Pink Floyd in the early 1960s. Barrett was the lead singer and guitarist of Pink Floyd from 1964 to mid 1968, when his use of LSD and other mind-altering drugs destroyed his brain. Gilmour knew all the music and had been playing with Pink Floyd, live and in the studio most of 1967 when Syd was unable to perform, sometimes Barrett and Gilmour were onstage together. On many occasions Barrett would just stand onstage and not play, just stare off in the distance. On other occasions he would play a different song than what the rest of the band was playing! It was a bad situation. This playing a different song thing is referenced in the one line of the lyrics of Pink Floyds song, "Eclipse" on their "Dark Side of the Moon" album in 1973,.... ..... "And When The Band You're In Starts Playing Different Tunes, I'll See You On The Dark Side Of The Moon". In many songs they reference Syd Barrett, in fact the whole "Wish You Were Here" album from 1975, (the album this song is on,), is about Syd. They also reference Syd on other albums and songs. "Welcome to the Machine" is one example that song is also about Syd Barrett. You'll be able to find many photos of Pink Floyd from 1967 and 68, with both Barrett and Gilmour are in photos together.
