elle n'a surtout rien à dire... quand on écrit un guide pour chanteur et que l'on découvre seulement maintenant pink floyd, c'est que l'on a raté quelque chose dans son évolution mentale
Great reaction. Only pink floyd can pull off a funk into a lament transition without missing a beat. The music tells the story of the mental state of syd. And the last part is a goodbye. More you listen, the more u understand and the more you realise how brilliant this composition is.
A goodbye yes, but i also kind of envisioned it as sort of happy ending, with Syd safe back at home, living with his mom & sister, spending the rest of his days painting & gardening.
It's a shame Syd hated it , he jammed with them that day and he was awful but he thought he was good,, yet I bow to his genius poetry, can't wait to meet him on the dark side ❤❤
David Gilmour has said many times that he struggles expressing his emotions, so he lets his guitar do the talking (or crying) for him. He was a close childhood friend of Syd Barrett (the Crazy Diamond) and seeing his unfortunate demise was a source of great grief for David, as evidenced by the mournful, almost tortured sounds emanating from his guitar on this track.
It warms my heart to find people from other countries/continents expressing feelings that you can't find the right words for, but they do it for you, thank you buddy for your comment.
@@FSMDogI’ve listened to SOYCD hundreds of times, and never took that away. Maybe it ALSO alludes to that theme (does it?), but Great Gig in the Sky is definitely the stages of grief. SOYCD, I’ve always thought (as have others) references mental illness. Namely, Syd. It’s a tribute to Syd BEFORE he died.
@@davsaltego I was listening to it today and thinking it is like stages of loss, some definitely come over as anger, some as acceptance I've heard it literally hundreds of times too
You nailed it at the end and got a taste of their genius. That major chord finish ends the album while the minor chord of G opens Parts 1-5. Everyone talks about Dark Side being the greatest concept album of all time, this one gets overlooked. The connection of all the songs, their relationships with Syd and the guilt they all felt resolves in that last bit. A definitive album, breathtakingly beautiful and absolutely perfect. There is no wrong note.
You are very perceptive, you picked up on the meaning perfectly. I have listened to this album at minimum 1000 times and 40+ years on now it never gets old and to this day it remains on my playlist for a lazy day to listen to music by.
The best band in the world in my opinion, delicate sounds of thunder is an interesting video to watch.i had the privilege of seeing Pink Floyd at Earls Court in 94, amazing, I hope you keep listening to and enjoying Floyd as much as I do.
It's such a pleasure to see a new person seriously try Pink Floyd. You have been superb in your reactions reminds me of my youth experiencing Pink Floyd for the 1st or 10th time never did I tire of the band.
What I find as equally impressive as the tremendous composition and musicianship of this song and album, is the fact that this album followed (three years hence) their epic, multi-platinum Dark Side of the Moon. There was so much pressure from the record company to release another "blockbuster" album, but the boys just said "um, no. We'll make the album we want to make. You can just go bugger off." This is hands down my favorite PF album, absolutely immaculate.
Since the first 1-5 reaction, I was sure you'll love the 6-9 parts, especially the 9 ! I'm very happy to see people discovering Pink Floyd now and for the next centuries ! ;-)
This song specifically reminds me of all the emotions i went through with my grandmother who had dementia because its like i was grieving for her mind before she died and when she finally passed it was almost a relief because she wasn't loving in pain and forgetfulness. Weird feeling. This song is a masterpiece.
David gilmour wrote a specific song named "faces of stone" as tribute for his mother who had dementia in her last years, he made a great performance of that song in his Pompeii concert
Pink Floyd was so inventive in their music. My adventure started in 69 with Syd holding the reins. They evolved into the greatest band ever, in my humble opinion!
I totally agree! This album was my hook into Pink Floyd as a 12 year old, and much as I love Shine On Parts 1-5, Parts 6-9 has been my favourite ever since! Really enjoyed your reaction! Thank you, and Happy New Year.
Thank you for doing this reaction. What is so great is that you approached this perfectly by letting yourself feel the emotions of the music. I think the lead guitar really sounds like it is singing...another voice.
You do not deserve threats, Janet! To hell with all trolls and malevolent sickos. Your reactions are always great girl, so don't let the a**wipes get you down. Happy New Year and best luck in 24. 🤗 By the way, I think you would enjoy Diana Ankudinova's version of Personal Jesus (and also Human, if you haven't heard it yet). Both songs really showcase Diana's stage presence, but I would love to hear your reactions. Have fun!
So glad you weren't afraid to do another reaction of a studio version. I still think the lack of a visual distraction allows you to better feel and interpret the heart and mind of the artist. Besides, I think the question of whether or not Pink FLoyd has a good stage presence has been answered. 🙂Thank you once again.
One of the first things I want to know about someone is whether they listen to…every…last….note and nuance of music and do so with head, heart and soul. You clearly do. Fun to witness! Moving too.😊
First of all, a belated Merry Xmas and a glorious New year to you Janet. Secondly I can't understand how anyone would want to unsubscribe from your channel, other than to say we want more of your wonderful reactions. I am so glad you did react to this last section of SOYCD as it is very dramatic, with wonderful tones and melody, and a very satisfying conclusion. Best wishes to you Janet, 💙💜💛
"Like saying goodbye?" Absolutely so. Tragic true tale told in music. And yet, at the end, a few cheerful notes to try to offer hope in the face of loss with the reminder of the better days.
With Pink Floyd I highly Highly suggest using a good pair of headphones because there are subtle details in the instrumentals that are always missed listening thru computer speakers.
Pink Floyd Albums are art. No one puts out an LP like Pink Floyd. Looking forward to entire album reviews of ANIMALS and DARK SIDE OF THE MOON and THE WALL. 🤞✌️
Really great intuitive reaction video. There are lots of comments so apologies if someone has already mentioned this. When the band were recording Wish You Were Here a stranger wandered into one of the studio sessions. He was quiet and odd looking, bloated, with a shaved head and eyebrows. Band members thought he must be one of the crew, until it dawned on David Gilmour - the stranger was Syd Barrett. Roger Waters broke down in tears. Syd wandered out again, the last time Pink Floyd met their founder. Shine On.
No one can replicate Pink Floyds sound but there are bands that are greatful and honor them. One example is Dream Theater with their song Octavarium. It's so epic and has lots of Floyd in it.
If you didn't have the back story, then you have incredible emotional acuity and (rather bizarrely), it is a sheer pleasure watching you being affected by the music.
when you said it's like screaming, i started thinking this song might be about the five stages of grief (we know what it's about, but it could be structured like the five stages of grief), with that part being anger. been listening to floyd for 30 years never thought about that before. will have to analyse it to come to a conclusion. the new reality being acceptance in this case.
Love your Pink Floyd reactions. I see you haven't reacted to High Hopes (Pulse Concert version). If you want to be emotionally moved, give it a go. You will shed a tear !!
I like your sensivity to songs, you look like an angel with christmas tree behind. I hope you will discover more pink floyd and David Gilmour songs, specially live version
Very good analysis! I really think you grasped exactly what the band was laying out in this song...and theres a lot (hence 9 parts). Loved your reaction and was impressed at your understanding of how the band broke down the various stages that Syd's mental illness weighed on them. In all seriousness, excellent job at breaking that down and seeing what Floyd was doing there. Love watching your reaction videos and continued best wishes in the new year!
I'm glad someone insisted you listen to the second half of this song: everywhere else I find it, it's only the first half, and there's no missing the wailing guitar early in the second half -- my favorite guitar piece anywhere. This song is my favorite of all their work. Thanks for giving me another excuse to listen to it again!
Thank you for reacting to this part of "Shine On" as it's personally my introduction to Pink Floyd over 40 years ago, you're the first Iv'e seen to do this. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Way back in the mid seventies I worked at a women's clothing store after school in the stock room unloading merchandise to send out to the sales floor. Behind the sales desk was a cabinet that had a turntable setup in it that played throughout the store. We got albums from the record shop in the mall to use. Pink Floyd, and other artists of the seventies, were played all the time. I've heard this many, many times while at work back then.
This song is pretty much the most Pink Floyd song there is, where every member contributed allot and probably the last song they wrote as a band. David Gilmour's best guitar work. Roger Waters best lyrics and singing. Richard Wrights great synthesizer playing. All about their found member Syd Barrett. It really doesn't get better than this.
Glad you reacted to the rest of this great piece of music the Muppets who threatened to leave if you did not react to it have no right to do so it is up to you what you react to not them. I am glad you did though a wonderful reaction. keep up the good work.
Terrible that people were threatening to unsubscribe for that, but I also somewhat understand. I for one was very frustrated that you didn’t do 6-9. Sooo happy that you finally did. Keep up the great reactions. Keep exploring Pink Floyd!
Thanks for another great reaction. The last few major bars, were Richard Wright slipping in his personal tribute to Syd, with a few bars from Pink Floyds first hit "See Emily Play" when Syd Barrett was the leader of the band, pre the David Gilmore era.
An excellent Pink Floyd song, that would be a great reaction for a stage presence coach, is 'Coming Back to Life' from the Pulse concert. The opening solo is the most beautiful I have ever heard.
The story goes that Gilmour walked into the recording studio and, greeting everyone, Wrigth asked him how he was doing, to which Dave replied, "Fine, but I've had these four notes in my head for three days that won't leave me, they're haunting me", Waters "Let's hear it, maybe something good will come out of it". Those four notes became a masterpiece known as "Shine on you crazy diamond" They're just fucking geniuses.
The very last keyboard flourish right at the end was a Rick Wright improvisation that he said just felt right at the time for Syd, so they kept it in the final release
As a stage presence coach which to me is someone that commands a stage with visual or in this case musically. My I suggest David Gilmour " Live at Pompeii"
This IS the albums of albums of Pink Floyd..Listen to whole album as the band takes you on a journey to Sid who started the band. It's called Wish you were Here because they all miss Sid DEEPLY.
I always imagine the great composers and musical geniuses of history, like Mozart, would have listened to Pink Floyd and freaking loved it. It's ambitious to bring music of this caliber to 'pop' charts.
I love your video so much. You have such a gentle understanding of the music. The background story of the song is also very informative and gives even more depth to the music. So expressive and beautiful, I love it!
Thanks for the work reacting and analysis, well done ! i invite you to walk the journey of Atom heart mother song . 20 minutes i guess, different , mas very interesting to hear one time at least in life :)). no vocals , but has some female chorus. Happy 2024
Beautiful reaction to, and thoughtful comments on, one of THE best musical works of the last century 👍😎😊😊😊 With the trolls, and others, just think of them as sad, lonely people lashing out because of their self-hatred, and a need to try and distract themselves from that inner loathing. Or, as we said back in the day - 'good riddance to bad rubbish"... Assuming they were even subscribed in the first place.
I love seeing peoples reactions to early Pink Floyd like Wish You Were Here, Dark Side Of The Moon, and early Alan Parsons Project, but with them being concept albums you really need to listen to the whole album to get the true feeling. I understand there are popular songs from them all that can stand alone, and there are constraints on time length here, I just recommend the entirety of the album.
Your musical and emotional instincts are on point. The array of emotions expressed amount to grief at the loss of friend and band mate Syd Barrett. Backdrop of dealing with the thrills and disillusionment of success, wealth, fame and all that came with it.
Bravo. I remember when the long player came out. It was on the turntable for weeks...So when it comes to stage presence, just two names came to my mind, Raye (Oscar winning tears, live at the Royal Albert Hall) and Emma Kok Voila with Andre Rieu live in Maastricht. Both are really worth to watch and analyse for you. And for the second have tissues... a wonderful new Year for you.
There is a riddle at thw end of this part 6 through 9 ......see the song is about Syd Barret the former leader and song writer of the group back in the Swinging London Sixties era ....any how bask in 74 0r 75 when this came out when I heard this for the second time .. the first time I went to sleep twice while listening to both sides but after subsequent listenings I heard it ....the last nine notes of the song played on the synthesizer ....it took me two weeks to figure it out but I triumphed ...... there was this song that pkayed on KRLA and 93 KHJ because irmt was a hit back in 67 I was 9 at the tine .....I absolutely loved it back then I had no idea who it was who played tbe song but even when ut came to me I didn't make the connection but I knew what song it was .....you got to realize there was no google back in 1975 so I was on my own
It’s a bit like a wish for someone to shine after returning from an experience of tipping over the edge but of course as the story of Pink Floyd unfolded, there was no return and in the finale there is this acceptance, a resignation of loss and the prospect of overcoming the grief by moving on.
Fantastic reaction to imho Punk Floyd’s best album. You get it, you understand, you don’t just listen to Pink Floyd you FEEL Pink Floyd. Wish you were here is an absolute masterpiece of the band members expressing their feelings about Syd Barrett through their music.
does it tear you up emotionally? Imagine being sent away to school at 8 - 10 and having no one but this type of music in the 70s. It still tears me in half.
you have to look at the cover again. where the man stands upside down in a lake. this is the Monolake in California. Imagine you are there, looking over the lake, through the area and listening to this music
This woman totally gets it. She has soul and understands & feels the music of Classic Pink Floyd. 🙂
I love the way she hears the color of the music. Syd Barrett also used to do the same.
She and Verdy. Another channel you should check out. She reacts to three of Pink Floyd's masterpieces, from Dark Side all the way up to Animals.
Agreed

Richard Wagner said: "music is the art of transition". PF had fully understood this in this composition.

Been saying this for years!
This is Richard Wrights finest album, perfect balance between him and David throughout, only matched in Echoes, magnificent 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤
i agree with every word you wrote
Completely agreed!
Yes... I mean Floyd. :)
Agree 100 percent!
I agree with you

It was Roger
Young lady...you are so unbelievably connected to our universe...I hope you know how special you are...a true sympathetic empath
It doesn’t matter what you listen to during your life, Pink Floyd is just on a whole different level
Floyd were absolute masters of musical composition, there will never be another like them in my opinion.

Your musical and emotional instincts are on point. The array of emotions expressed amount to grief at the loss of friend and band mate Syd Barrett. Backdrop of dealing with the thrills and disillusionment of success, wealth, fame and all that came with it.
You have to listen to Animals by Pink Floyd, great commentary by the way.
Great response to great music. Greetings! /Ulf
I adore you! More Pink Floyd please.
Absolute genius finishing on that major...
you have to look at the cover again. where the man stands upside down in a lake. this is the Monolake in California. Imagine you are there, looking over the lake, through the area and listening to this music
Love your reaction and analysis. Happy new year!
