As we all should still be doing. When people aren't continuing to listen to their own music, what the heck are they listening to and how much they have de-evolved.
Saw Floyd three times on this tour and twice on the Pulse tour. Yes I knew the moment it started what I was about to watch was very special, something I would remember forever.
Here you can see what perfect music sounds like. Imagine 200,000 watts of surround sound, 100,000 people and you right in the middle of it all. It was epic.
It never fails to amaze me how people fall I love right before my eyes the first time they hear Pink Floyd. Their music means “something” to everyone !!❤❤❤
This is earlier than Pulse, in fact a lot earlier. The video was shot during the „Delicate Sound of Thunder“ tour in November 1988(!). You can tell not only because they are all younger (and David still has his long hair), but also because of the earlier and less intricate Lightshow. Even though the main aspects (the light-circle, the lightband in front of the stage and the spotlights for Gilmour, the background vocalists etc) were already in place - only for Pulse 6 years later they took it to another level and made use of computerization (which would simply not have been possible in the late 80ies!)
Thats what I always liked about Pink Floyd they never felt the need to be flashy or try to impress anyone. They let their music do that. I have been a fan since the mid 60s and am still a fan. This song and Comfortably Numb are my two favorite songs to play in a live setting. The 80s were all about flash and style and yeah I did all that back then too but now all that isn't important .
We all went to hundreds of concerts.... Pink Floyd, YES, The Who, ZZ Top, Jeff Beck, Joe Walsh, Canned Heat, Uriah Heap, Black Sabbath, Ten Years After, Frank Zappa....the list goes on and on. They were ALL epic, and yes, we knew that it was the greatest time for music evolution!!!
This was the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour, the first tour Pink Floyd had after Roger Waters left the band and after the ensuing legal battles that followed. Imagine our thirst for their live concerts after nearly a decade of their absence in the live music scene, and during that decade, movie theatres everywhere as well as planetariums everywhere were doing laser light shows on the weekends and it was Pink Floyd music as the backdrop. Everyone wanted a ticket, and stadiums were sold out in less than 400mins from the time the box office opened sales... remember back then, there wasn't the ever-present internet, people had to go physically and buy their tickets, and so much of the time spent was just in processing that transaction. Then they came out on stage and made a moment, an event, that was every bit worth the price and the build-up in all that it entailed. Audio mastery unlike any concert or live event, even greater than the sounds at the theatre, visual so grand, the world became the stage and they made you feel that they had used every inch of it. The harmonics rippled through your body and made you one with the rest of the crowd, one with the space they were playing in. The band was flawless, the technicians were ultimate professionals, and production was so great that 30yrs later, only 1 tour was better, and it was the following Pink Floyd tour Pulse.
I got into PF when I was 13 because of this live album, aptly called "Delicate Sound of Thunder" and then waited 7 years to see them live in Lisbon during the Pulse tour. The arena where the concert took place was since tore down to build another further up the street, but a piece of my heart still lives in those sacred grounds blessed by these living legends.
Love your reactions Millie! But to do justice to the amazing songs you react to, please feel free to pause more so you aren't talking over/and more importantly missing the moment yourself!, some of the most powerful parts of these songs. Keep cracking on Millie!!
I saw Pink Floyd live 12 times in my life...1987 tour...Mtl and Tor. 1994 tour..Mtl and Tor. the best years. By the way i did it without holding an Iphone...and i have the best memories of my life in all those 12 shows...
I saw them at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.... the most unbelievable live act ever produced... I was on the field 30 rows back... Hands down, top of the list and I've seen all the headline rock concerts. Nothing comes close. I play guitar too, and have never heard anyone who plays with more emotion. Nice reaction. Us old guys were lucky to have this up close and personal. You are lucky to have all these epic compostions to few now and forever.
I was there for that concert at Earl's court , London and it was truly one of the best nights at a concert I've ever seen . I've been a pink floyd fan ever since around 1965 and my friend bought me a ticket for my birthday . Pink floyd have an enduring legacy that reaches not only the older generations , but younger ones as well and there arent that many groups that can say that .....what a night . Keep up the good work with the channel .
imagine being there...i was ...and there is no way describe the whole concert...except that it was surreal and outer worldly and something i will never forget
You're right Millie, David Gilmour sings through his guitar. Just seeing the expression on his face when he plays his solos demonstrates the importance of the message he delivers through the chords of his guitar.
I was there, maybe not that venue, but exactly how I remember it at what is now Gillette stadium , in Masachusetts . It felt epic then and this reaction makes me smile. Thank you Millie.
You're right. Epic. Its a fantastic song, still relevant, still feels fresh. I'm lucky, I've seen them at Knebworth, it rained heavily and you completely forgot about the the rain and went to another place. Amazing performance from all of them You need to react to "Learning to Fly" ❤❤
This performance makes this my favorite Pink Floyd solo aided by the magnificent backing vocals by Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom, and that belt from Margaret Taylor. This song is in my top 5 favorite songs of all time.
Nice reaction, Millie. This concert was 7 years before Pulse. You owe it to yourself to react to two other great songs from this Delicate Sound Of Thunder concert film: The Great Gig In The Sky, and The Dogs Of War. They're both truly stunning.
David Gilmour, to compose his solos, will first "sing" the lines of the scale he wishes to convey, then he plays them. Like many of the greats, it is not technical proficiency that they are trying to show off, but their song alone. Especially when Roger Waters isn't there, the ego's all seem to be in check, and it is the tingling of spines that it is important. Sure, someone can play a thousand notes a minute, and seem flashy, but someone who can vibrate ONE NOTE and keep you on the edge of your seat is more effective.
Of course I knew! I saw them four times in a week back in Jan/Feb 1988 in Sydney. They hadn't toured together since the 70s so of course we had to go! This song was a great end to the first set. And then they opened the second set with One Of These Days...
Saw this performance live in 1988, The Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. Greatest show I ever saw. When I went to Pulse tour, it was great, but seeing them return to the stage live after the break with Roger and the court cases, they put their hearts in to it and performing for the fans. I saw Roger Waters in 2010 perform The Wall for the 30th anniversary and loved it, but it was a 90 minute show. The 1988 show was 3 hours and 45 minutes. We were horse for cheering for so long.
Check out Gilmour at Gdańsk live concert …. Literally most of the Pink FLOYD catalogue plus the best of David’s solo and with three of the Pulse crew Rick and Guy Pratt on bass. Plus it has the last time Rick and David play ECHOES.
I was probably there. I went to 3 of the 5 nights at Nassau. They wore the same clothes every night so they could pick the best bits from every show to make the film.
Great reaction. You are so right, Millie. They don't care about flash. They strive to have every note, every voice, every instrument, every light... to serve the song and immerse the audience fully in the experience. Completely and deeply immersed in experience.
The whole concert is the best ever live performance. You have to see the rest of the pulse concert. This performance was a little before the pulse tour. I’m new so I don’t know what you’ve seen so far. The music is different you will be amazed and forever changed
I was raised on a lot of Floyd, later Beatles, Doors, etc. My parent loved their acid rock. I especially bonded with Pink Floyd's Animals and Wish You Were Here and play both albums now and again. If you love Floyd and that Prog Rock style, you might also like Devin Townsend. Devy is the godfather of Prog Metal, and some of his work really screams Pink Floyd but metal. For an incredible performance try Devin Townsend Project - Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall)
Always lovely to see your PF reactions Millie! Have you checked out the Pulse performances of Money, Us and Them, The Great Gig In The Sky, Brain Damage/Eclipse yet?
Well…. They do care about flashy as well. Their concert experiences have been innovative in their flashiness from back in the 1970s. But, yes. It’s the expressiveness of their music that comes first. :-)
With Pink Floyd, it's not so much about the destination as it is the journey. Whether you're listening to them recorded or certainly live (I was fortunate enough to see them on the 1994 tour. This was from the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour that started in September of 1987), you do go through an incredible journey listening to their performances.
You're right, Millie, the music is so soothing; however the lyrics will rip your heart out -- they're so true and representative of too much that goes on in today's world.
yes.. PF.. way more than any other band or music maker has mastered (by chance or intention) the art of creating perfect emotion.. thru pace and chords and notes and silence and all that.. without words that can send an audience to tears or pure elation... perhaps a very very few classical composers were also able to in their time as well.
Small note. This was not the Pulse concert, this is from Momentry Lapse of Reason tour. Still brilliant no mater what. This is probably the most poignant rock song ever written.
Floyd is more than music, they are a life experience. I'm 76, and first saw them in 1967. Still listening to them!!
Me too!
As we all should still be doing. When people aren't continuing to listen to their own music, what the heck are they listening to and how much they have de-evolved.
Damn! I didn't see them until 1969. :-)
I was born 1969... Pink Floyd was my father's main so it was my growing up
I love it
We didn't have all the modern tech that the kids have today but we did have Pink Floyd.
We didn't NEED all that other crap because, like you said, WE HAD PINK FLOYD!
@@davelindstrom6005
Best part is we still have Pink Floyd and I still don't need all that other crap lol. Cheers!
Kids today, huh? 👍 😊
@@kosys5338 hah, well still... if the new tape-echo doesn't work after Glimour playing it, you're probably okay

I think this is one of the best songs ever written by any band❤
As an old Florida boy almost 70, I own just about every Floyd album and many concerts. I will die a happy man knowing I’ve enjoyed my journey.🤟😎
This is Delicate Sound of Thunder. Another, amazing live album.
One if their best IMO.
Saw Floyd three times on this tour and twice on the Pulse tour. Yes I knew the moment it started what I was about to watch was very special, something I would remember forever.
Here you can see what perfect music sounds like.

One of the Pink Floyd songs that I love to sing along with. I even sang this one in a college talent show, in the 90's.
This is earlier than Pulse, in fact a lot earlier. The video was shot during the „Delicate Sound of Thunder“ tour in November 1988(!). And Guy Pratt was a young boy.
Their Music is the Show, Flash not needed. Been listening to these guys since 70, always give their Best.
PinkFloyd the best band ever. Way before there time..the music is still fantastic....Thank you for a great reaction. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.
You said "Imagine being there", I was there twice. Madrid July 1988 and Oakland, CA 1994 it was everything as you have imagined it and more.
I saw Pink Floyd multiple times. We knew we were experiencing something very special while it was happening. We knew how precious the moment was.
All Pink Floyd songs are amazing, but this one is perfect.. Thanks for the reaction from a fan 🤗
I saw this live on this tour in Oakland Stadium, California. Then I saw them in the same place in '94 for The Pulse Tour.
Millie, you’re just so good with reactions. Pink Floyd has always been my favorite group.
That's my favorite song of Pink Floyd. Perfect. Lyrics, melody, all.
Yes Millie. Pink Floyd is one of my all time favorite top 5 bands. Rock on sister!
Amazing guitar riff! No more turning away from the weak and those in need is the message of this song.
Absolute mastery. Such an incredible band. Love them.
Yep, we knew.
I was there as they played that legendary tour in Australia.
It was indeed, epic.
Dear, I'm 71 years old I've a lot of concerts and I've seen them one time the absolutely the best experience I've ever had.
the backup singers are ffing magical, during an already magical performance
Thats what I always liked about Pink Floyd they never felt the need to be flashy or try to impress anyone.
They let their music do that.
I have been a fan since the mid 60s and am still a fan.

I was lucky enough to have seen them live. caught them in Copenhagen back in 88. One of the best concerts i have been to. it was a great day indeed.
Love your emotions!!!! It’s like you are speaking for me and expressing exactly what I’m thinking!!!❤️❤️❤️
I'm so glad this song was captured on video.
This was long overdue! What is also long overdue: Pulse: Keep Talking! (here David literally lets his guitar sing through his mouth!)
"94" Dallas Tx April 28 A day I'll never forget! It seems a lifetime ago but ever so fresh in my mind.

I saw them on this tour in 88/89 n Atlanta GA - epic is an understatement
Minneapolis, MN at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome - both Delicate Sound AND Pulse tours!
A Delicate Sound Of Thunder concert.
Beautiful. Great job Millie. Please keep this up with masterful bands.

Blues legends PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council were the inspiration for the band, Pink Floyd.
I love that you noticed how special that was
This performance was recorded in 1988 and apart from Pink Floyd themselves at PULSE six years later nobody else has come close to matching it.
You're right Millie, David Gilmour sings through his guitar.

Pink Floyd's "Fearless" from the Meddle album.
I agree that you should watch “Dogs of War” and “The Great Gig in the Sky”, both from this 1988 concert. Both are legendary!
