Pink Floyd - the only band in the history of music who can consistently give you 5 min intros before any word is spoken and every time you never notice it until the end. Magical.....
I love the green screen - it works well for the song. Many of PF's songs are best served as part of the whole album - but this works. The Live In Pompeii version is also really good. Do a Live Live - Delicate Sound of Thunder, Pulse, Remember That Night, but especially Live in Pompeii (The newer one, not the older one). The song is about former band member Syd Barrett - who ended up with mental illness. Syd did lose himself.
@@KeithCollyer - yes, I mean David Gilmour Live at Pompeii - which is as much of a Pink Floyd experience as anything. Sorry for any confusion.

Taken out of context and listening to just the song, really does it no justice as the entire album should be listened to start to finish

Congratulations! You have joined the rest of us who have been initiated into the pure ethereal beauty that is Pink Floyd. What you are listening to is not frightening. It is the deep impact of music on humans and it connects us with the planet. It is deeply spiritual. Try listening to it again and watch the earth from the window of a spaceship. The track itself is a lament for Syd Barrett, who suffered so badly with mental health problems he could no longer be the incredible influence he was on the band. If you want to explore more of their music, just you wait until you hear the female vocal on dark side of the moon. The vocalist tells a story without singing a single word. You two recognized the saxophone when it first came in. It's actually two horns, both played by the same guy, Dick Parry. First one was a baritone, followed by a tenor sax. A requiem mass in progressive rock.
Thanks for the reaction. Your into some next level music with the Floyd. When the band was formed their lead singer, songwriter and guitarist was Syd Barrett. He was very charismatic and handsome. But he went mad after their first album, some say do to LSD. They were young and ambitious and replaced/left him. Getting his friend David Gilmour (who is playing guitar on this song) to fill his shoes.. They struggled trying to find their way for about 6 years. (Barret left a huge hole) Finally they found their voice and hit it big with DSOTM. They struggled in the studio for the next album and inspiration (Lots of pressure from the label). One day an overweight man with a shaved head and a lost look in the eyes showed up. They kinda ignored him each thinking he was with someone else. Finally one of them recognized him and it was Syd. They were all in shock at what he'd become. His story, their guilt of leaving him on their quest for stardom and the music biz is the inspiration they finally found for the album. I think they all struggle with wishing they'd have done more to help him. I may have got some small bit's wrong but thats pretty much the story.
You are correct this is the band talking about their former member sid Barrett. He was way ahead of his time and ecclectic and ended up on crazy side of life. Like most geniuses. The whole album pretty much is about him there is 3 parts of diamond..... By the way which one's pink?

For me, their best songs are "Comfortably numb" (Live from Pulse album), "Echoes", "Time" (Live Pulse), "Hey you", "Shine on", "Sorrow"(Live Pulse) and "Dogs"

This song is perfection as is the whole album, not a weak second in it. I was always puzzled that people consider Dark Side of the Moon to be their best album. To me Wish you were here is unrivalled and anything else by Pink Floyd a distant second.
Like A LOT of their songs this was about Syd Barrett. Very good album, you have to listen to the title track, wish you were here. Also about Syd. There are so many pink Floyd songs you need to hear. A few notches below megadeth, actually. Same with led zeppelin. Actually I should just send you my old mp3 player.
The song was a tribute to one of the musicians who started the Pink Floyd style and became ill with drugs and finally died. that is why they mentioned Shine on You Crazy Diamond.
Thanks guys! In the entire Floyd lexicon, this is their pinnacle. IMO... Many will refer to THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, or even THE WALL, but SHINE ON... is The Journey caught in a single track. Simply ICONIC. I'm glad you have finally discovered it! The song is loosely based on the struggle Syd Barrett experienced. He struggled mightily with mental illness, possibly triggered or exacerbated by his experimentation with mind altering drugs. And the video, created by a fan, kind of delves into the madness as well. Being on "the outside" or consumed by "the machine" or some of the other themes within the rest of the album. Being a "concept album" some of the themes blend together or are referenced to on other tracks. Pulling a single track from the album can lose some contextual continuity. But, as a 'single' taken out of context, this still holds up and loosely conveys The Journey. As a single, a masterpiece. As a part of the whole, a TRIUMPHANT MASTERPIECE!
I love watching you two "get into music" and your very real reactions. I would very much like to see your reactions to "Control" by POE off their Haunted album. The entire album merits its own show, as it tells a story from beginning to end and has an attachment to a book titled "House of Leaves", but that is another story. Please, would you do a vlog in regards to "Control"?

Perhaps their crowning achievement musically. It’s an incredible journey in song form.
I would say this is the best Shine reaction I have seen on You Tube, Well done :)
I always spark up my pipe watching Pink Floyd reactions...... Thanks
The song Marooned would fit your back drop very well.
The secret to listening to Pink Floyd is that it's not casual. You have to be completely present for their music.
A Pink Floyd live stream would be cool.
I wish I had that first time experience again. It’s brilliant to watch ppl listen for the first time.
reaction at 9:22 checking time of video is classic. i'll read his mind - "WTF, they just started singing now!. how long is the fing song?"
Lol
The song was a tribute to one of the musicians who started the Pink Floyd style and became ill with drugs and finally died. that is why they mentioned Shine on You Crazy Diamond.
the song is about sid barrett a former band member who went crazy. it was a salute to his talent
He didn't go crazy. He ended up as a casualty of the acid generation.
Some of the.most soul inspiring and crushing music
GUYS! If you do a livestream, do "Dark side of the moon" from beginning to end!
I really appreciated both of your comments. So insightful, thoughtful and rewarding for me as a long-time Pink Floyd music listener. Thank you.
You guys should watch Echos part one and two. Preferably from the Live at Pompeii video.
