Definitely nothing glamorous about camping in these conditions, but I’m really glad you still enjoyed watching video. Thanks for the continued support. ATB
When this guy says he's going to make some dinner I assumed he was going to pull out a freeze-dried ration and boil some water on his gas cylinder stove. You know, quick and easy. But no, he starts chopping fresh veggies and browning 1/2 pound of beef. But that's not all, he whacks out a Trangia alcohol burner in those gale-force winds, and then proceeds to lit it with a match, just to make himself a proper meal. That's my new definition of dedication. Never again will I complain about my camp food.
😂👍 a dehydrated meal is definitely much more convenient but part of the fun of coming out for an overnight camp is cooking myself a nice meal. I just enjoy cooking 👍. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. ATB
@@GoingSoloOutdoors I was very impressed with the meal! I don't do that at home - even on Valentines! ha ha Also, the cooking kit you are using! Great idea! What's the little pan/frying pan set you have - great idea - i'm using an alcohol stove but with a BCB crusader mug at the moment and packing a separate frying pan! Your setup way better
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Marvellous - thankyou for that quick reply - looking on google now! I have a speedster stove alcohol tin thingy - like a vaseline tin with carbon fibre wool in - same size as a triangia - so impressed by your setup and especially the cooking! You have inspired me a bit there! I'm normally boiling water and having boil in the bag stuff! Thankyou
@@GoingSoloOutdoorsshould have come to Cornwall down south west the weather is sub tropical all year If it rains it just passes by but it’s heavy so you get drenched in seconds Beautiful part of uk if you ever return
That’s really funny you mentioned that! I had a moment while on this hike when I was actually thinking about ancient travelers of these lands making these journeys without the kind of equipment I use. About the only thing I came up with that was similar was that we both had wool. Must have taken a lot of grit. Really appreciate the comment!
And now imagine those Romans waking up, only to find they had to skip their morning coffee. Absolutely brutal indeed. I think that was the point where they decided to build a wall.
Your positive attitude throughout this video is truly inspiring......when im out in those conditions, ill forever think of you in this vid, and it'll make me smile, and stop me moaning.😊
😀👍 Even in less than desirable weather it’s still great to get out and immerse yourself in environments like this. Such a pretty place. Although I’m really hoping to see a nice sunset on my next camp! Appreciate the comment. Hope you have a nice weekend!
Pitching up with approximately £5K of camping equipment helps a person present a positive attitude. As does being paid for the ordeal. I subscribe to UA-cam Premium so I don't see ads, but I wonder how many he had you sit through.
@@michaelc3977 😂 I only have the one Ad before the video starts because UA-cam makes me. I dont care to make money off anyone who watches. This is just a hobby of mine and my family is the most important thing. That’s why I usually only make one video a month, I don’t include affiliated links, I don’t ask anyone to buy me a coffee 😂, and I don’t have any of those super chats or whatever turned on. I do this because I love it. I drive an old car and I probably will until the wheels fall off, I still wear clothing I’ve had for 15 years, I don’t waste money on nonsense other than travel with my family and camping gear 😅 (because I have an addiction to gear) and it’s what I love to do. Really appreciate you watching but no need to sound so jaded and imply that my videos are here just to make money or that I’m happy or only positive because I know how to save money and buy an good gear 👍
@@michaelc3977😂👍 I think your estimate is a bit high man. I spent $850 on this tent (by far the most expensive item) so not sure where the rest of that estimate is coming from. Call me crazy but I think taking the proper equipment that can handle these conditions is smart 🤔, but hey if you want to call it glamping sure 🤣 I guess I’m glamping 👍. Again appreciate you taking the time to comment. Enjoy your time outdoors 👍. ATB
Thank you! Really happy to hear you enjoy the videos. Hope it wasn’t too hard to hear me while hiking. Definitely a bit of a challenge filming in those conditions. Appreciate the comment. ATB
This was probably one of the best videos of camping with rain I saw so far, because is REAL and with the original sound of the places. I get frustrated some times of fake titles with fake rain. Thank you for the video from Argentina !! 🇦🇷💙
Glad you enjoyed it! Definitely no the best conditions to be out for a hike and a camp but I still enjoyed myself. Especially once I got into the tent, put some dry clothing on and just listened to the wind and the rain 👍. Appreciate you taking the time to comment.

@@HoolyDooly-si2zzunfortunately the weather is like this a lot here. This is definitely not for everybody and I don’t recommend camping in conditions like this without the appropriate gear and a bit of experience. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best
I got to camp this year in the same conditions as you for 2 nights, first night the wind was extremely strong and the second night the rain was like I've never seen, spraying us in the tent, but looking back I would do it again, it was the most memorable camping experience I have and I saw another kind of beauty of the mountain.
I agree. It’s nice to have a camp like this every once in a while. It can even be quite cosy listening to the rain and wind from inside the tent. It also really makes you appreciate the days of nice weather a bit more as well. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best.
Definitely tough conditions but it makes you appreciate the nice sunny camps 👍. Always amazes me how with all of our modern man made materials. Wool is still one of the best in conditions like this. Appreciate the comment!
Definitely not ideal weather for camp. But once in the tent, it’s quite cozy getting to listen to the rain and have a hot meal 👍😀. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!

What a guy! The sub-titles on UA-cam interpreted the sound of the wind as "Applause" and you deserved all of it! Plus you cooked proper food, not just some dehydrated gunk. Outstanding. Thank you.
Thanks you! I do enjoy making myself a nice meal while camping. And when the weather is less than ideal enjoying a fresh warm meal is great 👍😀. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best
The most incredible camping/hiking video I've ever watched. I am in total awe of the way you handled yourself throughout this experience. I would have been cursing my head off. I always really admire your camp cooking skills, it’s inspiring to see really good food cooked with all the compromises that camping out of a backpack in the wilderness and filming and in those kind of difficult conditions bring - damn impressive.
It’s not always easy but preparing a nice fresh warm meal really helps to lift your spirits. Especially in conditions like these. Really appreciate the comment! Hope you have a nice weekend 😀
Camping videos are always relaxing but there's something extra satisfying about how you faced those conditions, solved all the dampness and discomfort, and made a cosy pad out of nothing more than some material and pegged out bits of string. Amazing
These were definitely not ideal conditions for a hike and a camp but once inside the tent it was a very cozy evening. This tent is made for conditions worse than this so it's tougher than it looks 👍. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! ATB
I wouldn’t call it brave. When you have the right equipment and a bit of experience, camping in conditions like this can still be enjoyable. It also really makes you appreciate the days when you get nice weather. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. ATB

There were definitely a few moments on this camp where I had that same thought. Imagine what it would have been like to be one of the ancient travelers of these lands. That would have been a tough. Having a nice warm shower after this camp was glorious 😂. Really appreciate the comment!
Hiked the Grand Canyon in a late winter storm. Straddling the mini river on the path was exhausting as was being constantly squelchy. Beautiful though. Your videos are always entertaining, foggy lens and all. Thanks as always!

Same! I have 3 other Hilleberg tents all in this sand color for that reason. It always seams to blend in with the environment wherever I pitch the tent 👍
Omg, that was brutal ! A wild camp in the true sense of the phrase. Hats of to you for enduring those conditions and battling on to make the most of what you could salvage from the wind and rain. It sure was a good testament to how your Nammatj 2 can withstand whatever nature can throw at it. This is the best video youve done. 💯 inspiring in fact “embrace the suck” yep. When you have to dig down into yourself and keep pushing forward. Oh! For emergencies i carry a pair of bike pants. These are like leggings and are lined. They dry quick, warm, dont weigh much. Excellent adventure
It’s a great feeling being secure inside the tent when it’s lashing down with rain and wind outside. Nothing weird about that 👍. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!
Not weird at all! It triggers a part of us that we've had for thousands of years. One that despite the relatively short time we've lived with the comforts of today, will be there for many years to come. The need for food, water and shelter is obviously essential for life. When we see a warm, dry and comfortable shelter in severe weather, it's almost impossible not to get a cozy feeling. It's primal and practically involuntary, and I'm completely fine with my caveman instinct showing itself in these situations! 😂
I started packing my gear after 10 mins of watching this, I live in Snowdonia national park and never get around to camping like this due to work etc, I will start my hike in the morning, many thanks for reminding me what it’s all about.

you're an inspiration. not necessarily for your specific actions in this video, but bc when it got really bad, you just kept going with such a positive attitude, and you made it through to the other side. its a nice metaphor. also, you make incredible meals and i am absolutely using your recipes as inspiration for dinner. if you can make something so delicious in the middle of a storm in the mountains, i can make it at home in my kitchen. all in all, love the video! thank you for sharing your adventures! next weekend is my first time camping in a few years and i'm so excited!

The Nammatj has definitely become by go to tent when the weather isn’t great. Spacious, a good vestibule for cooking, and it can take a beating in the wind 👍
Very, very good. It takes me back to my mountain leadership course back in the '70's. Demanding, challenging and sole making. It's all about dealing with a few hours/days of discomfort but knowing that you can get through it with the right training, equipment and of course true grit determination.
Thanks! I agree. With a bit of experience and the right equipment, even a camp in less than ideal conditions like this can be enjoyable. Camping in windy conditions can definitely be a challenge. A bit easier when you only have to worry about yourself. Camping in a group definitely creates its own challenges. Unfortunately it’s windy like this quite often here in England. Earplugs definitely help when trying to get some sleep though. So sorry for your loss. Wishing you all the best.
I once walked over grizedale tarn next to dolly wagon pike from patterdale and over to grassmere and it looked a little bit like what you encountered. Brings back memories of my home country .I am from the lakes and you kind of expect bad weather when you go out walking in the lake district and appreciate what you get if its not raining . I had to make sure all my pack contents were in zip lock bags and dry packs. also always wore sealskin socks. Thank you for making this video of your walk in the lake district.
Thanks for watching. I always have all my important stuff in dry bags when heading to the Lakes for the reason you said. I just kinda expect rain at some point. Great stuff mate. Arduous conditions requiring resilience to continue on. The Nammatj performed well - concerned the guy tensioners slipped....I'm going to take the plunge on this tent. There are a tonne of Hilleberg Haters out there (for no reason I can discern), but they're the best shelters out there - as shown in this video. I always enjoy your uploads mate. ATB, Chris

It’s a fantastic tent! I may have made a typo in the video if I said it was the guy tensioners. It wasn’t the guy tensioners it was the fly tensioners at the base of the vestibule that were slipping. This has never happed to me before but it definitely wasn’t ideal. I was able to stop the slipping with a single overhand knot in the ribbon material but it was a bit annoying. It may have been because it was so saturated by the rain. Not sure. Really appreciate the comment Chris. ATB
A rough camp that mate, it's always tough when out on these types of adventures but when you get home you appreciate everything that little bit more. Absolutely stunning food! It's 7/8am here and I'm now craving that haha. I'm definitely going to try it. Fab camera work! Cheers mate.

Yes it makes you really appreciate diving straight into bed when you get home. There’s no better feeling. I’ve camped out for weeks on end with similar weather. When you know you’ve got everything well prepared and the tent is strong enough to withstand almost any weather, it makes you feel so cosy and relaxed when you’re in it. I go to sleep every night with the sound of rain on UA-cam, but the real thing is soo much better. Especially rain drops on a tent!

@jakereeves2989 yeah and just turn it that hot you come out like a lobster Jake haha! For me it's a scary podcast, nothing better than laying out on a desolate Moor or a woodland and listening to a spooky story haha!
I admire your positive attitude in the face of truly adverse conditions. Your tent took quite a pounding from the looks of things -- I am happy that your excursions out of it to readjust its lines and stakes were not prompted by a substantial collapse of the tent itself. Your contemplative time to prepare your meal was a nice contrast to the extreme conditions in which you found yourself. I very much enjoyed watching this!
Glad you enjoyed it! When I was initially setting up the tent, many of this pegs were hard to get into the ground because it was very rocky. My priority at that time was to just get the tent up and secure enough pegs that I would have time to get changed into some dry warm clothing. I knew I would have to go back out at some point to readjust and better anchor a few of the pegs with rocks. It was nice I was able to relax and make myself a nice meal in the meantime before the winds picked up even more. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice week.
Tenacity backed up with a positive mental attitude in spades. Knowing that you have top class kit with you certainly helps you psychologically when you encounter perilous conditions like you experienced in the wettest area of the UK . Sone good tips in the vid and the importance of having tertiary back up with the Garmin In Reach. It has definitely prompted me to make a purchase including an emergency bothy shelter when I'm up on the high fells with my small group of fellow hikers. Just another great video, highlighting the Lake District in its characteristic weather patterns which can turn nasty and dangerous in the blink of an eye. I also have to comment again on your culinary skills, simply amazing. Take care and ATB. Michael.😊👊👍
You’re absolutely right about the psychological benefit of having kit with me that I know I can trust. It definitely helps to maintain my focus on other aspects of the camp 👍. Imagine being a Roman doing a 100km hike to go fight the Celts.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Really appreciate the video. First one to watch, keep up the great work
And now imagine those Romans waking up, only to find they had to skip their morning coffee. Absolutely brutal indeed. I think that was the point where they decided to build a wall.
Nice one good imagination
The probably listened to the weather report on the radio or watched the Weather Channel before heading out on their chariots.... yes I am kidding
@@GoingSoloOutdoors But you are out braving the elements here with over £5K of top of the line equipment. 'Glamping', if you will?

Not weird at all! It triggers a part of us that we've had for thousands of years. One that despite the relatively short time we've lived with the comforts of today, will be there for many years to come.
The need for food, water and shelter is obviously essential for life. When we see a warm, dry and comfortable shelter in severe weather, it's almost impossible not to get a cozy feeling. It's primal and practically involuntary, and I'm completely fine with my caveman instinct showing itself in these situations! 😂

The Lake District can be as unrelenting as beautiful. I’m lucky to live 50 miles away from it. Thanks for the film.
You are very lucky. I would absolutely love to be a bit closer. But it’s worth the drive. Such an incredible place! Appreciate the comment.
I actually live in the Lakes and I really should do this. It’s on my doorstep so no excuse
I am impressed by the way you overcome the weather challenge.Good job!
Thanks. It is nice to have testing conditions sometimes Makes you appreciate the nice days. Thanks for taking the time to comment! ATB
Even if the forecast doesn’t call for it 😅. I still haven’t used sealskin socks yet. I need to get a pair. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Plenty of shops in Ambleside or Keswick where you could get a pair. Where did you camp in tour video ? Looks very familiar if cloudy and wet as to familiar. Always a job to navigate in the lakes. Old school trained before sat navs and Google maps.
@@t19dal 👍 I will definitely be getting a pair. This camp was between Great End and Seathwaite Fell. Just to the west side of Great Slack
Nice walks in borrowdale I like going up to lion and the lamb
I also liked the use of the mini trangia
I love the trangia cookers they are a game changer . Better a cooked meal to raise morale and get you warm than a foil meal that's bland and rewarding ar best.
I am sure glad I experienced that from the warm comfort of my bed.
😀👍
Great stuff mate. Arduous conditions requiring resilience to continue on. The Nammatj performed well - concerned the guy tensioners slipped....I'm going to take the plunge on this tent. There are a tonne of Hilleberg Haters out there (for no reason I can discern), but they're the best shelters out there - as shown in this video. I always enjoy your uploads mate. ATB, Chris
Count me as a Hilleberg Lover - In March 2020 I bought the Enan that has the same 70D floor as the Akto as of February 2020.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
You absolutely appreciate everything a bit more when you get home 😂🙌👍. One of the best warm showers I’ve had in a long time! You should definitely give that recipe a try. Really tasty. By the way, I really love watching your adventures in your Bobcat but not sure I would have enjoyed the smaller space in these conditions. At some point I’m going to purchase that tent because of your videos 👍😀. ATB man!
Yeah no better feeling matey is there. My wife goes mad cause ill come home and turn the heating on!
Yeah, I'll have a blast of that this week I reckon and as you say will feel loads.
Oh nice one thank you man, I appreciate that and glad you enjoyed them. Brilliant, I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on it when you do. Big thanks for the reply 🙏
@jakereeves2989 yeah and just turn it that hot you come out like a lobster Jake haha! I'm with you on the tent, once you know you have a good one the pressure is off isn't it, you can just enjoy the ride!
Hats off to you for going out there in such wild rain and winds and camping. This is my dream
It’s fun to experience challenging conditions sometimes. It definitely makes you appreciate the camps with really nice weather though 👍
Am from the carribean and maybe for you its just rain ..for us to have a weather like that its just a blessing
👍😀
Definitely recommend carrying some kind of emergency device. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a Garmin as there are many more options available now that were not available when I purchased mine. But I have been happy with its extra functionality 👍. Really appreciate the comments Michael! All the best!
Hate when everything is wet, even dry stuff is wet , waiting for next upload 😊
"...even dry stuff is wet..."
And even the wet stuff is soaked ! ☆
Just love your horrible, very wet and windy wild camp videos. To be honest, I have only done it the one time but after seeing this I am now motivated to get back out in that horrible but nice weather...there's something special about wild camping in the rain. Great video, Keep up the good work👍
Thanks. Not ideal weather, but it definitely is quite cozy once you are warm and dry inside the tent. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. ATB
Brings back some great and some horrible memories of camping in the lakes and the Yorkshire dales. Long periods dozing in a tent whilst the wind and rain whip around you. Marvellous.
It can sometimes be very relaxing when it’s not too crazy out. Always love the sound of rain on the tent! Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best.
Your positive attitude is awesome. 👍
Thanks! Always happy when I get a chance to go camping 👍
Awww you looked all bummed out because the egg yolk broke lol 😂 it's ok. 😘♥️
😂 I was 👍
Gruesome! 😳🙈🤣 Love that you can cook a gourmet meal in that kind of weather though 🤣🤣 I reckon that could qualify for us calling you a Brit now! 🤣🤣🤣🌧💨
😂 having a nice warm meal definitely lifts the spirits. Well… until you have to stop eating to go out into the cold rain and check the guy lines. Hope you have a great weekend!
That's a great tent to have in those conditions. Nice video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! I always really enjoy bringing this tent when I know there’s going to be strong winds all night. Plenty of space and it handles wind like a champ 👍. Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Extremely informative video with tons of learning to do for me who is a hiker in the lower leagues. Tnx a million!
Thanks for watching! I have been camping and hiking for a long time but I’m no expert. I still make mistakes, like leaving my long John’s at home 😅 but mistakes happen and you just have to adapt to the situation. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. ATB
